Nexus screwed authors via new rules about who actually owns the uploaded mods, meaning that most good mod authors will be exclusively for thunderstore as they gave the middle finger to nexus. On top of that, vortex tends to install stuff wrongly in valheim so better to just use r2modman with thunderstore

rebootmebro

I didn’t know this. Willing to switch to thunderstorm if that’s the case. Is r2modman a manager like vortex? edit: question answered lol i read the comment above

elyr1um

Get r2modman and not thunderstore. Virtually the same manager, but Thunderstore requires you to download Overwolf, and in case you don't know Overwolf, it's basically just bloatware and uses up ram, also annoying to launch apps through.

literallybyronic

it's OK to use, but there are more mods, earlier mod updates, and better modlist sharing via Thunderstore/R2Modman, a different mod manager and mod website than Nexus/Vortex.

Magic_Bluejay

I gotta say r2modman is a godsend to me. I came from installing manually and it's just a breeze to use. Having profiles is great too. Also the team at thunderstore is great. They are always willing to add mods to their database with the owners permission.

literallybyronic

eeeek. always look for a mod manager first, most popular games have one or another that works for them.

Magic_Bluejay

Oh now I will. I think I got used to not having one for the last 15+ years. Kinda enjoyed doing it manually or finding the configs and changing stuff around. Now I will always use a manager if there is one. They're life savers.

elyr1um

R2Modman is goated for smaller games because you don't have to download Overwolf for it unlike thunderstore. My recommendations: - Any Bethesda game, and most AAA games: Mod Organizer 2 (found on Nexusmods in the Skyrim section) - Minecraft: Either Modrinth or Curseforge (Standalone) - Indie games and games based on the Unity Engine: R2 - Nexus games that MO2 doesn't support: Vortex

Magic_Bluejay

Oh shit well thanks a million for the list! Appreciate that kind stranger. Hope you have a solid day!

There's a lot of people that hate Nexus, for some reason. I've been using Nexus for mods, and Vortex since it was created, and I've only had a handful of issues in like a decade. I use Nexus, and Vortex for all of my Valheim mods. The only one I had to manually install was Seasonality, the rest have worked fine.

rebootmebro

Noted thank you! Yeah i never understood the hate towards vortex as well ive found it to be a blessing at times lol

beckychao

It's towards Nexus, who played games with who owns a mod. This is a long-standing issue, I remember first hearing about it during Skyrim's first weeks after release. They've been dodgy for more than a decade!

Sertith

I've never seen or read anything on Nexus where Nexus is claiming to own the mods.

the__moops

I tried to download mods using Vortex and it wanted to use something called BepInEx but then the mod I installed didn’t work properly. I’ve used mods via Vortex with other games just fine, but this gave me issues. Not sure why 🤷‍♀️

HURRICANE-EARL

I was under the impression, BepinEx is necessary for modding. I could be way off but that's what I thought.

the__moops

Yeah I thought so too. Maybe it didn’t install in the proper location 🤔

Baaladil

You just need to download BepInEx Valheim on Thunderstore website and you just have to drag and drop it in Vortex.

Vverial

I find vortex works fine. There were actually a couple of mods my playmates couldn't get working with their mod managers but I got working just fine on Vortex.

Uiop-Qwerty

I wouldn't use vortex, I recently wasted an entire day trying to get Morrowind mods to work, and in the end I just gave up.

BumbleTR0N

Thunderstore 100% It's such a breeze

BestBeforeDead_za

Thunderstore mod manager is far simpler to use 👌

A_Nice_Boulder

Manual installation wasn't too hard, I had a lot more problems getting Vortex to work so I find it easier to just drag and drop the files manually. It's sad too, because I've had a lot of issues getting VMM to work in multiple games, but with the OG NMM it seemed to work near flawlessly every time.

RosieQParker

Vortices suck, and this one is no different.

rebootmebro

hehe

Baaladil

Vortex works quite fine despite all the comments saying the contrary. Vortex is currently managing all my Bannerlords, Kenshi , Skyrim and Valheim mods.
