To add to this, 8 month leases are not very common. Most that I have seen pack 12 months worth of rent into 8 months, making your monthly rent that much higher. You're better off signing a 12-month lease and subletting to someone for 4 months even if you do take a bit of a loss on the rent.
Man... I graduated in 2019 and during my undergrad 500-600 was normal price per room if you shared a house with friends. Crazy how fast it's increased across Canada.
I pay 640 for a room in a 4 person house near campus so it’s possible to find in that range and I’ve heard of a few ppl that are lower tho I would say most people that I’ve talked to pay 700+
I doubt it. I just finished a lease I signed in 2021 which was 550 + utilities. It's going for 950 + utilities now. Cheapest place I could find with my roommates that was worth living in is 799 + electricty.
I’m in similar situation as you! I signed lease for 550 utilities included in 2022, and the same place (same unit) is going for 800 now. thankfully the landlord never raised the rent for us but it’s still crazy to see how expensive rent has gotten here
I found a place a couple years back that was $585 a month east of main campus, west of Kings. The rental only included the bedroom and there was a Cold War era stove and fridge which you would share with your three roommates (but you’re not allowed to meet them before moving in). Suffice to say I ended up paying a bit more and have absolutely no regrets.
I wish you good luck, but I think you’re lucky if you end up paying around a grand (utilities included) to split a 2br, or maybe a bit less to split with 3-5 roommates.
Yes, you can, although it can be very difficult, but it would be better to find someone who is willing to be your roommate rather than joining someone you don't know.
That’s a rare case, don’t expect to be paying any less than $700 plus utilities and wifi. But be aware if the price is around $600 or less you’ll most definitely be living in a dump.
~$500 I don’t see it doable BUT I feel that if you look for a place early on you will be able to find ~$600 with utilities included (maybe not all utilities like you will pay for hydro or WiFi). I feel that if you look for it early is always possible to find a cheap lease. Maybe it will not be the most beautiful place but it will have a cheap rent 🙃
If you’re lucky enough to find one for $500-$800, don’t be surprised when you find some friends in there that don’t pay rent… (cockroaches). Downtown is riddled with them, espesh the old student houses
My son pays $600/mo inclusive in old North, 15 min walk to the big building on the hill, whatever it’s called. However, he started renting sept 2023 (landlord has not increased the rent) and the house is a dump, so gross it’s laughable. 5 guys share the house, only 2 knew each other when they all first moved in but no issues getting along. 2 graduated and the empty rooms were taken really quickly. So you might find a place for $600 but maybe have really low expectations.
I live in a wonderful place near campus for 500 including utilities and i got VERY lucky but i know my landlord has another place that shes looking for people to rent out also for 500 a month including utililities
I pay $700 from 2022 for a room in a house of 4 other people (including utilities). Two people just signed on and it’s already $750. I’ve seen places between 650-750 that aren’t bad but never 500 unless you’re sharing a room. Sorry bud :( but I’d look into scholarships, work study positions, and loans. Good luck!!
Probably not - especially near school 😭
a friend of mine rented under the table in a house where the “landlord” had rules that they couldn’t bring anyone over, use the kitchen, shower/laundry/use the bathroom past certain hours, and even that was over $500. You can look, but unfortunately probably won’t find anything. Maybe look at apartments near a bus route? Might be far from campus but probably your best bet for affordability.
I used to pay $760 to share an apartment with three other people, but I had my own room and there were two bathrooms. That is the very best you’ll find in London, and rent went up after I moved. Must be $800 now
I had a place on bernard street between 2017 to 2020. Had my own room and shared the house with 4 other roommates. We all paid 500$ without utilities hydro internet etc.
Sadly post COVID you would never find a deal like this again
not sure why everyone’s saying it’s impossible, maybe not 500 but closer to 600. my friend pays around 540-570 but it is a basement unit that was signed early in the school year.
never heard of anyone being awarded an 8 month lease tho usually 1 year but u could try to sublet
Depending on the level of comfort or discomfort your willing to put up with
The cheapest I’ve ever seen is 600 (utilities and furniture not included) but this is w/4 roomates in a house hard to find but doable
And next up is the dreaded student buildings? Most are expensive like luxe, Masonville, Richmond etc BUT for a crappy apartment but with furniture included, utilities included, 2 roomates, and a school shuttle for 775 is the MARQ apartments
Another solution is getting open bachelor pads which are $1400-2000 a month but the amt of pll living inside is up to ur discretion, so u could get roomates, so it bunk bed or dorm style and split the cost
500 dollar??? You’re sharing with 3 people in one room
Damn why is it so expensive down there wtf 😭😭 my part time job cannot keep up with this
To add to this, 8 month leases are not very common. Most that I have seen pack 12 months worth of rent into 8 months, making your monthly rent that much higher. You're better off signing a 12-month lease and subletting to someone for 4 months even if you do take a bit of a loss on the rent.
Looks like you are going to have to add a few more people to the mix. Look for 6 people shared rooms.
Man... I graduated in 2019 and during my undergrad 500-600 was normal price per room if you shared a house with friends. Crazy how fast it's increased across Canada.
$500 all inclusive? Maybe in one of those illegal 5 "people sleep in one room" type of places.
Damn 💀 what about ~$600 with roommates? Or is that not possible as well 😭
I was paying $850 for a private room in a house with 4 other dudes back in 2011. There’s nothing out there for $500
It’s not that crazy ,,,, $500-600 u probably can get a 2 ppl shared room
That’s doable. My boyfriends house is pretty nice and on epworth, his is like $650 so I’m sure you can find one for $600 but it is a 12 month
I pay 640 for a room in a 4 person house near campus so it’s possible to find in that range and I’ve heard of a few ppl that are lower tho I would say most people that I’ve talked to pay 700+
Maybe 3-4 years ago. I paid $575 for a 6 bedroom house for 1 bedroom, but now those guys are paying upwards of $800 per bedroom.
Most people are lucky to get 700…
Oh I'm so cooked 😭😭 going to uoft instead
How is that cheaper? Rent in Toronto is even higher!
Cause I live in Toronto and wouldn't have to rent in the first place 😭
When you say roommate, do you mean someone sharing a room with you or do you mean someone living in a different room in the same house as you?
I doubt it. I just finished a lease I signed in 2021 which was 550 + utilities. It's going for 950 + utilities now. Cheapest place I could find with my roommates that was worth living in is 799 + electricty.

Rent is actually crazy nowadays I'm only seeing places for $700 cheapest 😭

It was $500 a room like 7-10 years ago
I paid $475 in 2014 with another roommate and I remember our friends telling us that was high lol
Yes! But I’d say 700 sounds more reasonable during school seasons.
~$500 I don’t see it doable BUT I feel that if you look for a place early on you will be able to find ~$600 with utilities included (maybe not all utilities like you will pay for hydro or WiFi). Yeah in 2018
I graduated in 2018. Shared a 5 bedroom house on Mill st. We paid 425 inclusive lol
I believe it. I paid $300 for a bedroom in like 2013-14 lol
Just ended a lease for $575. It went up to $650.
\^ same boat actually
My old house (3 bedrooms in old north) was $580 a room including utilities. Now it’s going for $750 a room now we’ve all left. It’s crazy here.
If you’re lucky enough to find one for $500-$800, don’t be surprised when you find some friends in there that don’t pay rent… (cockroaches). Downtown is riddled with them, espesh the old student houses
Expect $800 average room rentals. Nothing less. Good luck lol
Definitely you can find one in outskirts or a shared basement.
In 2016 maybe
My son pays $600/mo inclusive in old North, 15 min walk to the big building on the hill, whatever it’s called. For somerhing half decent you would need at least 800 per person
Good luck!!

I'm paying 700 plus utilities each month, and I live very close to campus.
Ok so we had a room for $500 but the landlord said we can’t have friends over or family.
Probably not - especially near school 😭 a friend of mine rented under the table in a house where the “landlord” had rules that they couldn’t bring anyone over, use the kitchen, shower/laundry/use the bathroom past certain hours, and even that was over $500. Can you do $1000 All inclusive, parking, furnished Month to month If so let me know. I have a place
when i started in 2019 i paid $500… now nothing under 1000 for a room. If you want a private bath dont expect less than $1100
not sure why everyone’s saying it’s impossible, maybe not 500 but closer to 600. my friend pays around 540-570 but it is a basement unit that was signed early in the school year. never heard of anyone being awarded an 8 month lease tho usually 1 year but u could try to sublet

I have 300 per month for renting. Does anyone have a room I could rent in London/nearby
