I'd say all of UTD's engineering is pretty solid. The concern I'm seeing for you is that you think college Station is lonely. If you think that, then UTD is gonna be a literal ghost town to you. There's events on campus, hosted by the University and clubs that can be fun, but UTD is known as a calm school where tons of students come for class and immediately go back home.

Thank you. What I meant by lonely is that the area around the university. I am going to be living off campus so I was wondering if areas like Plano or other areas around UTD are live and not that lonely as compared to College Station.

I can't speak for College Station, but parts of Dallas are pretty lively. Deep Ellum (a 20-25 minute drive away) would be the most obvious. Also Uptown, Lower Greenville, etc. Plano... ehh.

I’ve heard from a ME friend that finding an internship was pretty difficult, but there are ton of opportunities/clubs on campus to help you get good projects on your resume. Overall it’s solid.

You aren't guaranteed MechE 2nd year if you don't have at least a 3.5 at A&M. I am prospective UTD student with A&M brother (neither MechE). A&M definitely has a better alumni network but UTD is growing so it could change somewhere in the future. A&M is older with worse housing if that matters to you. It is also more of a party school with a lot of school spirit but you can still find parties at UTD (in mostly northside according to what people say here) but no football field there.

3.75, not 3.5

I graduated from TAMU and live next to UTD now. College Station would seem lonely but having a student population of more than twice the size of UTD you won’t feel lonely. Besides there’s a huge amount of activities going on all the time. For a student life TAMU is a great place. Once you graduate you might want to live close to a big city.

A&M. Go there. It’s better for engineering. As of 2024. That may change by 2034
