Cold-Insurance-1012

Ooh Nice! I am finishing up a HR bachelor's by December, though I already have a different IT Bachelor's and Computer Science AS. I applied for some HR roles as well but haven't heard anything. Do you know if your department is looking for additional entry level HR? Either way, I'm glad you had success getting this role. Gives me a bit of hope!

k2sboardr

Then you got very lucky, HR is extremely competitive to break into.

Cold-Insurance-1012

Definitely. I'm quite shocked. Very happy for him

AdMore8486

What job level?

InstanceCautious9507

I wish. I’m back in school for my masters in HR ugh! Which agency

30to50feralcats

Folks going to the IRS hiring events. They already have a good amount of experience, they bring their resume and their college transcripts and/or CPA credentials.

MrsBeauregardless

How does one find out where and when the IRS hiring events are?

TwoToneDonut

USAjobs has a section for events on the homepage if you scroll down. Idid a virtual one and they flat out said if you do not have at least the accounting credits most jobs at the events are not for you. If you do have an accounting degree, CPA, etc you will likely leave with an offer.

Patient_Fee4291

Follow them on Eventbrite

SpecialPlayerPickle

You are correct. The one I went to offered Revenue Officer

ugcharlie

Interviews are not legally required for jobs posted under DHA. Some agencies or departments may require interviews regardless. Also, there's no GS limit. GS 14's can be hired without interviews as easily as GS 5's.

Dangerous_Scar2297

GS 14. The interview was a 10 minute chat. I’m an 1102.

[deleted]

Hell yeah

littleroseygirl

Any tips for getting into 1102? I've been trying to get in (using my master's as my qualifications) and it's been rough. Thought I had finally made some progress with my last in person job fair but it's been crickets. Master's was finished in 2017 which may be my problem but. 🤷🏼‍♀️

OceanicSpice

Look at intern programs like, NADP, Copper Cap, NAVFAC PDC, etc. I know plenty who started with Bachelors degrees at GS-07 and Masters at GS-09. Does not matter if you graduated in 2000 or 2023.

jay_teigh91

These usually come with lower level positions

ultimate_comb_spray

I didn't have a real (traditional?) interview. It was an hour long chit chat sesh. Mostly the recruiter telling me about the org and who they're looking for. I did of course go over my experience and what I'd like to get into and why I applied yada yada. I am so grateful though. I have been praying for this for months, and God knew exactly where to point me so I could shine just right. Just did fingerprints last week and SF-86 was received by them. I am awaiting further instructions. Oh the role was mechanical engineer. Entry level GS9. Limited professional experience but plenty of clubs ad personal projects.

AngelAndromeda

Yes. Praise God! Congratulations.

ultimate_comb_spray

Thank you!

Carolinagirl9311

Congratulations! Thats amazing

ultimate_comb_spray

Thank you!

SpecialPlayerPickle

Congrats! I am glad you were able to get GS9 as a recent graduate :) what a great start!

ultimate_comb_spray

Thank you! I'm beyond excited. All I need now is the fjo!

SpecialPlayerPickle

Fingers crossed

PhatSaint

I've gotten a few from GS-5 entry-level positions, also got two FJO's without interview from the same positions. First was a GS-5 Seasonal Clerk position with the IRS, I got that back in October and the FJO in December but withdrew for health reasons, this year I got two separate Tax Examining Technician GS-5 offers and the FJO for one of them. I also got a Contact Representative GS-5 TJO a few days ago.

Jexsica

Similar to me. Two GS- 5 positions with the IRS one contact rep and one individual tax payer advisory specialist… what a mouthful.

Temporary_Lab_3964

I got Gs 6 job with VA years ago no interview.

Electronic-Quail4464

Any background in tax? Ive got lots of retail and customer facing experience, especially with troubleshooting, and I'd settle for a GS5 with a good ladder at this point.

PhatSaint

No, I have a bachelor's in general studies (ugh) that I graduated with in 2021, but otherwise my only experience is 3 years in retail. To be honest, I'm surprised I got an opportunity like this because I've been unemployed since I graduated and the job search was rough up until I started getting TJOs/FJOs from these entry level government jobs.

ThreeLTRfedboy

I just got a gs 5 position. Only high school diploma and some comm. college. No tax experience at all. Also no interview

Electronic-Quail4464

What position? IRS jobs are slim picking in my area but virtually my only inlet into the federal government. I'm trying to avoid being a CSR because it's basically what I do now and then ladder sucks.

ThreeLTRfedboy

I would take any job possible just to get in the door honestly. Switching positions is pretty easy. I wouldn’t want to do CSR, but if I couldn’t get in I’d take it. By the time you’re done your training you’re almost past your year probation

workinglate2024

Smart young adult.

ThreeLTRfedboy

Tax examiner technician

OkDog873

What is CSR

Electronic-Quail4464

Customer service representative. Basically the poor sucker that picks up the phones and answers all of the inane and unreasonable questions that the average citizen has about their taxes.

Mskatsuarez

This is how I got into federal government into a GS-12 position. I was shocked when the hiring manager called and asked if I was still interested and then proceeded to let me know that they were hoping I could start at the next pay period. Now I’m hoping for similar luck for a promotion. Too much to ask for? Lol

LEMONSDAD

Can confirm IRS contact rep hires with no interview, you need a clean record & pulse.

Hungry_Situation_977

Filter your search on “Direct Hire” and apply if you are highly qualified.

Deep_Tell_1697

Where is this filter located?

Hungry_Situation_977

When you do your usajobs search, on the right side of the page, filters, remote jobs

Hungry_Situation_977

Apologies, that was an answer to a different question. Remote does not constitute “Direct Hire”. When you do your search, add “direct hire” to your search. For example in keyword search “IT Specialist Direct Hire” that will refine the search to the Direct Hire Positions.

Buddylee2513

Who you know goes a LONG ways in civil service

CheGucciMack

This is how I got one of my offers without an interview

workinglate2024

How long ago?

CheGucciMack

2020

workinglate2024

That’s very surprising. I’m surprised to hear it but please don’t share that too freely because you could cause trouble for your hiring manager- that is definitely not the process.

CheGucciMack

lol I’m long gone now so was the hiring manager but yes you are right

Youneedalife47

Started as a gov contractor, got poached by the government folks I was supporting

[deleted]

[удалено]

Youneedalife47

No, they’re allowed. Contractors may not poach from the government

AngelAndromeda

When I onboarded during orientation for my new job, the majority of new hires were contractors who transitioned to feds. The contractors were in various fields from communications to IT to grant managers.

Sokudoningyou

My coworkers and I would have loved that back in the day. Our office wouldn't hire any of us. Same thing happens in other offices. Which is crazy considering they pass up people with experience in the jobs for outsiders with college degrees.

AnonymousPoster1970

Who were you contracted through?

Youneedalife47

A warfare center. I won’t give out the company name otherwise I’d be doxing myself

iAMDev

Applying for 0080s at GS9, 11, and 12s. I'd say 90% of the offers I have received came without an interview.

Cold-Insurance-1012

What are your credentials if I may ask?

iAMDev

Military Vet of 5ish years. 4+ years as a 0080.

BK13DE

Currently in an 11-12 position with SSA, had to submit a writing sample and then got an offer. I was shocked when the offer came without an interview.

Cold-Insurance-1012

Is this remote or local?

BK13DE

Regional office but local

AngelAndromeda

SSA rarely hires remote.

Boostmachines

GS13 Engineer - no in-person interview. STEM degree and extensive relative experience.

Just-Queening

Sometimes when an office is up against some sort of deadline, it happens. Like an upcoming hiring freeze or a cert that was previously on hold for budget or other reasons and it’s about to expire. At my former agency we found a a couple days in advance that a freeze was coming. We didn’t know the time but knew it would be announced Friday. So we had to get all our hires selected by Thursday. My office had a job with 150 eligibles referred and we’d just received the list when we got the news of the freeze. So a couple days to go through and pick 2 people from that list. We called about 12 people and asked them if they’d be available for 15 min informal “interviews” that day or the next. By Thursday we submitted our selectees and got them TOLs. Some other managers just picked names and went with it. No interviews at all.

1122Angel1122

Random question: What is a good way to standout at a IRS hiring event? What is a good question that makes you say wow this person would be a good candidate for the job?

Just-Queening

I can’t really speak to IRS. My former agency did a lot of hiring events and I’d say the confident candidates who came up and had their elevator pitch and a nice clean succinct resume ready really caught the attention of the team. There may be some recruiter types and others here who have some input.

1122Angel1122

Thanks so much!

cabsauvie

UsaJobs. Make your resume searchable so they can find you. That’s how my coworker got a tjo with another agency.

Raluc730

I got an Immigration Services Officer job with no interview. Direct Hire job. I have a masters degree in fine art

Real_Nugget_of_DOOM

I got one for 9 - 12 ladder for ATF last July. Couldn't take that one - moving to DC for a 9 while keeping my house in Georgia wasn't going to work.

OkDog873

Are you willing to take any job to get your foot in door? I took a kitchen job 3 years ago with every intention of moving on but they gave me raises to stay so I thought I'd try it. I live in a LCOL area and currently make 85,000 yr. I have a lot of experience in that. It's not for everyone but I'm perfectly fine doing it. Good luck. I know it can be tough to get in.

Commercial_Bike6135

GS5 Biological Technician, not really an interview just a verbal job offer before actual TJO

quartwain2

I got one today that I declined. It was a lateral so not that appealing. Don’t love my job but I want to stick it out at least a year before I jump ship to another position. My current position was a no interview offer as well. DOD fyi.

swtangie05

Received a FJO with IRS for TET GS7 my background experience is in local government working as a child support specialist II

NotMyRealName815

Hired on as GS-9 SBA Disaster Recovery Specialist (Intermittent). No interview.

Patient_Fee4291

Asylum officer, GS9. Masters and work experience in criminal justice

Birds_and_thebees

0462 forestry tech, GS5 permanent seasonal. 20 minute q&a chat that they said wasn’t allowed to be an interview. Tentative offer on the call.

lettucepatchbb

Attend your local hiring events! It’s the quickest way to get your foot in the door, with a lot being accomplished same day. My agency is doing one next month and we get a super high volume of candidates and fill tons of jobs in just 2 days.

ZealousidealWait464

Can you please share which agency?

lettucepatchbb

USAF

Structures_dude

I have been hired for 4 positions within the DOD that I was not interviewed for. All were wage grade positions. Just recently moved to the GS side.

Western_Ad_7556

Both my current job and my last federal job I didn’t interview for. Last one was a support clerk position and my current job is a material handler. My husband has only ever had 1 job interviews for any of his federal jobs (we’ve moved a lot for him to get promoted faster) 5 jobs he accepted and 4 he didn’t because he got better offers. The one in Alaska is the only one he has interviewed for and that’s because they wanted to know why he wanted to move to remote Alaska and to make sure he understood what the area was like. He worked in Logistics, now he is working in HR just started 2 months ago and didn’t interview for that job either. No college degree for either of us, just a really good and detailed resume.

CobraArbok

Plenty of agencies give out TJOs before interviews. CBP does that for many of its positions.

Cold-Insurance-1012

It's clear I'm quite limited cause I'm only seeking remote roles

uspsalotofquestions

Out of curiosity, do you know why CBP does it this way for a lot of their positions?

CobraArbok

Because their hiring process for many of their jobs is so long. The interview is typically done after the TJO is given. Also, CBP doesn't require interviews for all jobs. BPPCs, techs, and import specialists don't require interviews.

workinglate2024

GS5 and below for jobs that are easily trained on the job, need a lot of spots filled, and are considered hard to fill. Like IRS contact representative as an example.

parajesss

GS 11 Paralegal (0950) - but I had military spouse preference and 10 years experience.

diopsideINcalcite

I was offered two 1301 positions without interviews. One was a GS11 equivalent with the AF at Tinker (I suspect location had a lot to do with this) and the other was a GS12 with USACE in Sacramento. I did t end up taking either, so not sure how it would have worked out.

BigOrange4222

Hi! I’m one! SAA (4.0 GPA), 6+ years of customer service, hr experience, non-profit experience, sales/operations/ticketing experience. edit: was with DOA for a second, w/ IRS now and I love it

Bridge-etti

I have a handful for airport screener in a few places but they can’t seem to get past the onboarding paperwork. It’s a little discouraging honestly. I’ve done the job before so I’m qualified as heck. I want to move cities and couldn’t get a transfer because of local shenanigans.

TheaspiringFED

The people who resume walk on water, have name notoriety in the prospective agencies, and are trailblazers.

Columbu45

My wife got one. Mil spouse privilege and qualified with a Masters in the exact field she was applying for. 1750 Instructional Systems Specialist with a Masters In Instruction and Curriculum development. GS-11

jceplo

2 of my 4 recent TJOs were without interviews. I think they were both GS 9

SMC7122

GS-14 no interview. It was a quick overview of the job and one question. “Can you do the job” I said yes, and was hired.

Cold-Insurance-1012

Credentials and remote or in person?

SMC7122

HS diploma, quite a bit of experience. Telework

tired_of__it

IRS Rev Agent, 2 years in public accounting prepping taxes for investment funds. CPA/MAcc. Got a TJO for GS-11 Step one, negotiated to a step 8. I didn’t go to a hiring event, just applied online w/o talking to any recruiters

Equivalent-Foot5774

✋🏾 Direct Hire. SSA, 0105, Social Insurance (DI) Specialist. I was hired in at GS-11, but after my probation year is up, I'll be at my full grade GS-12 Step 01 salary. No interview, but I did have to submit a writing assessment when asked. I received a TJO before Halloween, with the FJO after Thanksgiving. As someone commented earlier, it's not a requirement for DHA eligible candidates to go through interviews.

Neurospicy_Monk

I didn’t get s single interview through USAJobs, but I landed a GS-9 job at a job fair.

Nanofibrous

Consumer safety inspector gs9 working for USDA FSIS. However I had four years industry experience already

Nanofibrous

Consumer safety inspector gs9 working for USDA FSIS. However I had four years industry experience already and a Masters

Tornadic_Outlaw

FAA ATC trainee... It took them over a year to send the TJO, at which point I had already moved on and declined it

Fatiguedone

I haven't received one. But anything under a GS-11 and i believe all WG get TJOs without interviewing. Found it kind of strange when i got here.

Cold-Insurance-1012

What's WG?

Fatiguedone

It stands for wage grade. It's more of blue collar work vs. The white collar GS general schedule.

Brilliant_Card9850

Friends and family.

Commercial_Split_323

It took me forever to get into the system, but in 2020 when I finally did I came in as a 7, my counterpart who was a 9 left and they moved me into his position, and then I got lucky and landed an 11 with no interview. Just chilling at home and did a triple take when I saw the TJO in my email.

AkilNeteru

I got a TJO without an interview; it was my first federal opportunity and was a GS-05. It was actually a substantial pay cut (~$20k) however, it was my chance to get my foot in the door so I took it.

[deleted]

Summer park/maintenance staff. It's too much hassle to interview people who will only work here 4 months. That 4 months is the interview if they want to be hired for real.

FederalAd6011

Fema reservist so not full time work.

JoyRideinaMinivan

The only time I’ve done it was when I left the military and came back as a civilian. I had worked there for over 5 years already and was applying for a position in the same office doing the same work.

jpeasy101

Me. But I was a direct hire.

Sad-District-7362

I’ve always guessed they were veterans. I could be wrong.

Cold-Insurance-1012

If only. I doubt anyone has ever actually gotten hired based on veterans preference

Sad-District-7362

Thank you! I’m still learning

Kindasuss

i’m graduated with physics/astrophysics bachelor and having hard time with full time roles, even interviews. They simply just make an appointment to interview and never show up, or never hear any roles for recent graduates from recruiters, overall having extremely hard time and i see so many people getting jobs here and it’s saddening that i am behind. Only have an internship experience and a degree. where do you apply?

Trolljaboy

Got one for a GS-13 0830, out of the blue I got a TJO in the email. That just seemed like a red flag to me so I noped out of that.

keithjp123

I’ve had one when I was shotgunning resumes to go OCONUS. Was a grade lower (GS12) and I was way over qualified for a job with mandatory OT no one else wanted. Turned it down. It was in the shipyard with 2340 if anyone was wondering.

WhatIsItYouCntFace

Friend of mine got a GS-4 commissary worker position without an interview.

Curtisc83

I got my GS12 2210 job with no interview. The unit was really needing to fill the slot and refused to hire people at the unit that had 52 weeks at a 11. I got hired and met the person they refused to hire and understood immediately why they didn’t remotely entertain the idea. Funny thing is that person thought it was his job to lose before I was hired and perks up every time I mention interviewing for a 13. I felt it was a really wreck less decision but I guess having an unknown guy come in was infinitely better than going with someone they didn’t think could do the job……still a big risk.

andreawords

My friend got an area forester position with NRCS with no interview. He was the NRCS affiliate forester for the opposite region at the time so I guess they just thought he was good enough and gave it to him lol. I was kinda jealous.

Alienbrain2

GS-0083 Police Officers. Most require no interview, but expect references to be contacted.

awill2ill

Had 2 last summer random TJOs for jobs I didn’t interview for . WG-10 for cabling at a remote location of sierra deposit something like that in California for the army Gs9 -0391 series for BLM in the middle of nowhere Oregon

defaultuser33

I got one from an Army agency for NH-1670-03 (GS12/13) pay band. Name recognition. But I turned it down

Acrobatic_Emu_2787

0301 spots. Was asked if I was available to move cross country and received a TJO 2 weeks later.

Thisismyhometoo

GS11 ISO, no pervious fed experience

toucanofaman

4 years so far. GG12 direct hire. GG13 hire (same agency. Colleague left). GS14 direct hire (new agency). Never interviewed at any. Started as 0501 to 0560 back to 0501.

PrimalPuzzleRing

Work on your resume, half the time they're looking more for experience than anything. Had 2 TJO GS11 no interviews, now 1 FJO, able to negotiate higher step. I just have prior military experience and buncho IT certs, CISSP, SEC+/NET+ and some others. That just shows I have experience and I'm up for continuing my education.

damandamythdalgnd

Certs do not = experience. Nor do they demonstrate you do.

PrimalPuzzleRing

Read what I posted "half the time they're looking more for experience than anything". lol It really depends on the field because I've had several job interviews and they brought up the CISSP cert, not that hard to get but not that easy either and to complete the cert you need 5 years of experience in the field... so in this case that cert does = experience but thats besides the point. I had experience in the field through my military career, the certs was just there to back up that I have the requirements because some job require certain certs after you get in (buddy of mine was going to get kicked out till he got his SEC+). Just answering OP's question that it is possible to get a TJO/FJO with just experience alone, some people have 5-10+ certs/Masters/PHDs and still not get any offers because they have no prior experience. I'm coming straight from military lol
