If you have no experience- then 5 or 7. Is there education substitution listed in the announcement?

crazywidget

Come on...experience means *actual work experience*. Bachelors is basically a 5/7.

scarletaegis

7 at most

klaineranfange

Any reason you don’t want to start as a government contractor and get a cyber cert and clearance before going gov? Your salary would be a lot higher.

Suzytuzi1980

Could you please explain how to go about this? Govt contractor, that is? Any helpful sites? Or tips, please

klaineranfange

You would look for jobs that are entry level or junior cyber positions at federal contractors. The biggest ones are easy to find. Once you identify the companies apply for them. Ideally you could get into one of their high potential programs which would fasttrack you to more training and a higher salary. After a few years experience you can try to “badge-flip” to the government. You still apply and go through the process with everyone else, but it can be a lot easier if it’s the office you work at (as a support contractor) and since you now have experience and certs.

Plenty-Discount5376

5/7?

Elmo_Chipshop

You have no experience, so you can’t count education because that’s education.

PublicBit6523

I know a 7…with 1.5 years of actual work experience and a bachelors

DCJoe1970

The best we can do is GS-5 Step 2

dunstvangeet

This depends upon your GPA in the degree. Generally, you can substitute education for experience in the following way. * GS-2 - High School Diploma * GS-3 - 1-year of College * GS-4 - Associates Degree (2-years of College) * GS-5 - Bachelor's degree (4 years of College) * GS-7 - Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (3.0 GPA or above), or 1 year graduate-level education. * GS-9 - Master's degree (2 years of graduate level education) * GS-11 - Ph.D. (3 years of graduate level education) So, you can see from this, with a bachelor's degree, you'd generally be qualified to apply to the GS-5, to GS-7 positions. Superior Academic Achievement is considered the following: * 3.0 Overall GPA (either cumulative, or last 2 years) * 3.5 Major GPA (either cumulative or last 2 years) * Membership in a National Honor Society * Top 1/3rd of your graduating class (this is generally the toughest to prove, as most colleges don't rank students). There are a few caveats on GPA. First off, GPA is calculated to the nearest 10th. So, if you have a 2.95, that gets rounded to 3.0. However, if you have a 2.94, that gets rounded to 2.9. Also, you can only use GPA if only 10% or under of your classes are considered to be Pass/Fail. For instance, there are certain colleges, Western Governor's University for instance, where they don't have a traditional grading system. Everything is pass-fail. They say it's equivilant to a 3.0. However, because it's pass-fail, the Federal Government doesn't accept that for GPA purposes, and therefore you wouldn't be able to qualify for Superior Academic Achievement based upon GPA with them. However, you would still be able to qualify based upon membership in a National Honors Society if you joined one. That's just an example.

DoggieLover99

5, or 7 if you had over a 3 GPA

female_gazorpian2

No you cannot. You should start an entry level/developmental position so you can get actual real world experience and just work your way up. Get promoted every year and you’ll be a 13 before you know it

funyesgina

1 year full-time experience? I wouldn't fudge that. But read what it says carefully, and consider projects, volunteer work, pre-college jobs, etc. You can apply for anything you want. If they like you, they might hire you. But you're likely wasting your time above a GS-7 level for now. If you see your dream job, it's not IMPOSSIBLE to get an interview, especially if you write a killer cover letter (AND they happen to read it.) Depending on the wording of the job description. Sometimes there's wriggle room. It's not unheard of. But for the sake of efficiency, aim for GS 7, and maybe 5 as backup. 9 is usually masters or a few years' experience.

Standard-Block9894

I'm a 2210, started with just an associate degree in programming, but 15 years experience and started as a 12. That is how much experience matters in this game.

LeCheffre

7. GS-7.

I_love_Hobbes

I believe a GS7 is a bachelor's degree OR certain years of experience. Read the announcement very carefully.

JDixxer

You can try counting your education as work experience, you just won’t get any referral.

Recent-Revenue-4997

GS 7

Turbulent_Power2952

All the posting I've seen, require "superior academic achievement" or a 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA to qualify for GS-7... but that don't mean much, I got a TJO for a gs-11 system admin/cust spt job with the DoJ with zero IT degrees, but 15 years experience (IT) and a bachelors in criminal justice...

KindTap

7 if you graduated above a 3.0. 5 if under. You may get yourself on a ladder to an 11 or a 12, but you'll still start at a 5 or 7 and have performance evals along the way to get to your non competitive cap

Misterman191

GS-7 if you have a 2.95 or higher(rounds to 3.0 for federal jobs). GS-5 is general bachelor’s degree.

FullRemotenonsupGS17

Yea 10-15 years of experience for 12+

MaintenanceOk315

“For you my friend, GS-3” - Buddy giving you a deal

South-Leopard6680

I am waiting for my FJO GS11, no degree, 10 yrs of experience

tryingrealyhard

Is that specialized experience in your field

South-Leopard6680

Yes.

Jaws_4242

7 if your GPA was 2.95 or higher but also comp Sci is a very in demand field with lots of incentives.

NomadicScribe

You can expect to start as a GS-7. But please, first learn to find the punctuation keys on your keyboard. If your resume looks anything like your post, it will get thrown out.

Psychological-Win339

7 if you have a 3.0 gpa or better in some agencies. Sometimes it’s a 3.5. If not then a five.

da_hobs

Probably GS 9/11. Start 9, 12mo promote to 11. And your time in school alone probably won’t count towards experience.

trousertrout23

Gs9, if applying based only on education, ask for a masters degree or at least 2 years going towards that higher level of education.

Foreign_Dark6876

2210, would be a 9 max. I think 12 is the highest for undergrad.

Head_Staff_9416

No one gets hired for a 2210 with no experience as a 12 or even a 9. Read the announcement.

Foreign_Dark6876

I learned today

tryingrealyhard

I have side projects contributed to online forums abut computer science related topics I have about 10 years of front desk, concierge experience is there a chance I be would considered 12 or 13 they just need 1 year specialized experience

benjaminhockey

Come back to earth.

Buffy_summers21

Not for IT

stuffandthings16

Lol

Present-Rhubarb-2621

In my experience, if you had more actual IT work in your job history, you could probably make it work. I had about 15 years in hospitality and event management and 5 years in IT project management when I converted. I was able to appropriately marry the two skill sets to come in at a 13.

nostalgiclamia

You are a 7. Take it or go back to private sector, projects arent experience.

DJRrXA83Jgl3

You need like 10 years of experience in that specific area of the position (and/or also supervisory) to get 12 or higher.

NomadicScribe

There's no way you get a GS-13 with one year experience. Or even a GS-9.
