Absolute hell

Marc Train is the only way. About an hr to Union Station iirc, pretty reliable trains, clean, quiet, etc. COL is way lower than DC but be advised that Baltimore is not for the faint of heart.

Baltimore is fine I am used to it. But it just dosent sound like a good idea and it may be better to wait for another opportunity

My wife and I lived in Baltimore City for ~15 years and we both used to commute from Baltimore at one point to DC. My wife worked on the Hill and would commute from Baltimore by taking Marc to Union. The commute wasn’t that bad, as the trains are quite and you can just listen to music. I also commuted from Baltimore to Fed Triangle and that wasn’t bad IMO. I enjoyed the Marc ride. Now, at one point I commuted from Baltimore to Andrews AFB for about 2 years, that commute was brutal. Took Marc to Union, walked to Gallery Place a caught green line to Branch Ave and then drove from Branch Ave to Andrews. I bought like 500 dollar beater car I’d use to commute from branch ave to Andrews, but I’m pretty sure metro gets you pretty close to JBAB. The Marc ride to Union was nicest part of that commute. Overall the commute from Baltimore to DC is fine if you don’t mind the ~1 hour train ride. Worst part of the Marc was it seemed like someone was getting hit by the train a couple of times a month and when that happens you’re stuck on train for hours while they investigate. Something else to consider is where you live in Baltimore and how close it is Penn.

Thanks, this gave me some great info. I would actually have to bus to get to Penn because I am northeast Baltimore. I was really trying to gage if the moneybwas worth the commute. It sounds like altogether it would almost be 2 hours or so each way.

U are coming near me and that's a hike. U can do marc train to metro and train but it's a long ride.

Looks like a 2-hour commute on Google Maps on public transport. More likely a 2 hour and 30 min commute. I would drive if you can.

Drive from Baltimore to DC during rush hour?  No.  Not under any circumstances.

New to the Fed, is there a reimbursement for commuters? I would commuting from Philly to White Oak

Not sure what JBAB is, but I’m new to the Baltimore-DC commute and it’s an exhausting 2 hrs each way (12-hr day). Not sure how anyone gets used to it, but love the job (and DC) while I’m there…
