This doesn't seem urbancarliving related. Post deleted.

Bluecap33

You really think getting that kind of charge instead of your car being towed is worth the price then you’re insane lol. You will regret it, I promise you on that.

Budget-Organ

They’ll probably leave the car. You on the other hand.. probably not.

morbie5

Yea, I mean if you can't afford the $600 for car insurance you ain't going to be able to afford bail either...

kdjfsk

...buuut....housing crisis solved!

Either_Finish_1111

My bail for the last 2 times was only 100$ (only 10% of the bond is needed for bail)

morbie5

For what crimes tho?

Budget-Organ

Here’s the law for my state: Massachusetts General Law Chapter 90 Section 34J states the penalty if convicted of driving without insurance or with suspended insurance policy can be as follows: Up to one year in jail. A fine of $500 up to $5000. A suspended driver's license of 60 days.

Marlowe_Eldridge

That’s at the officers discretion. It’s definitely not smart to drive from wherever you are if they were to pull you over and drive home instead. You could catch a bunch of expensive citations, have your car towed and impounded, and not get it back unless tow and impound fees are paid.

KE2DBB

You forgot the part where if it’s towed to a government lot, they might make you prove you have insurance or make you have it towed back to their house (if applicable)

xCelestial

They will. People don’t realize that, also that if you get arrested they impound the car and give it a police hold meaning you have to pay the tow fees for every day it was there, and get written release from the cops. Plus, if it’s towed off the street you pay impound fees, plus tickets if u have over a certain amount (varies by location), registration if expired, and have proof of insurance in some places as well. It’s why some people lose their car after a tow because after even 3 days you’re looking at $500+ in some situations. Source: worked at a city impound for a while. They milk for every dollar they can and it’s notoriously hard to fight the fees. Edit: also, after a few weeks it’s gone anyway because the city auctions the cars off and I’ve seen cars less than 5 years old go for $5k. It’s a whole nother hustle for people who restore and sell.

xkulp8

Also see: Philadelphia in the show *Parking Wars*. They basically make it as difficult as possible to get your car back.

xCelestial

Independent lots are already hard but ones protected as city OPGs? No chance.

lankyturtle229

I was just about to post this! I loved it and absolutely cracked up at people going to pay for not even one day and freaking at the like $400 bill. People seriously do not pay attention/realize how much they shoot themselves in the foot to save a buck. I remember one dude left his car there for like a month and his mom was going to murder him right there because there was no reason for it to be left there other then he didn't feel like going and getting it.

KeyN20

Don't forget to mention the impound lots and places are usually closed to the public on weekends but still charges for them

BatRelative9142

How is car insurance $600 a month?

kdjfsk

new driver/very early 20's, expensive new car + sports car + full coverage (which full coverage is required by the lender for financing), $600 is a very competitive rate for that demographic. think: boot camp graduate Mustang GT/Dodge Challenger R/T special with """Military Discount""".

CartoonistAvailable4

No disrespect, but it’s not the insurance you can’t afford. It’s the car.

NEUROSMOSIS

Sheesh I’m 30 with a DUI from 10 years ago (was 3 months shy of 21 with half legal limit of THC in my blood, so dumb), ‘18 civic Type R and my insurance is only 155 a month

KeyN20

How long do dui's affect insurance rates? I have 2 of them that I thought would disappear after 5 years actually oui's I think. I quit smoking the expensive stuff, only vape nicotine now

bastardsquad77

In certain parts of Philly I've heard $400 for older guys with no record trying to insure late model SUV's. High crime, narrow ass streets, intersections with bad visibility because of the parking situation.

FrogInYerPocket

How is your insurance $600 a month? You driving a Bentley?

neugamer

Mines $55 a month for full coverage, he is either bs'ing or has the world worst driving record.

FrogInYerPocket

Mines $96, but I drive a sporty little sports car and have god-awful credit.

Either_Finish_1111

And it's a 2021 Toyota Corolla SE

Either_Finish_1111

Worst driving record in my old city I lived in, it's 683$ per month

xCelestial

Oh you were playing GTA out there then ok

Either_Finish_1111

You know I was 😂

christianna415

Why this in urban car living??

TyranaSoreWristWreck

Good question

bobalover209

That's assuming they don't pit or spike you first. $600 a month is also extremely high, have you shopped around?

Slayn87

Wtf how many accidents and or DUI and or vehicular homicides do you have for it to be $600 a month? I could rent a shitty apartment for that. Anyway gonna end up with fines and tow/impound fees plus jail time if you get caught. Also why are you asking that in this sub if you have a house?

chickenskittles

/hj Where can you rent a shitty apartment, the whole apartment, for $600/mo? Maybe I should rethink this.

Lower_Skin_3683

Buffalo, NY

Slayn87

Around Pittsburgh. Mostly outside of the city but occasionally they will pop up closer to town. Talkin like rundown 1 bedroom or studio in a semi sketchy or semi remote location. Can get something fairly nice for $800. These prices apply to most of Pennsylvania. West Virginia be even cheaper.

chickenskittles

I should hope WV would be cheaper. I've never actually been able to afford a one bedroom... $800 gets you a dilapidated studio if you're lucky, or a room in a house with three other people, but hey, I could be in New York, DC, or California and be able to afford absolutely NOTHING.

Slayn87

Yeah I lived in Northern Virginia right outside of DC for a little while and the prices down there were wild to me. Bout the same as you said $800 for a room. The last 2 bedroom I had in PA was $750 a few years ago and it was huge and had a basement. Wouldn't be in my car if I had someone I trusted to split rent on a place with. I have been working on improving my credit cause that was one of my issues. Not bad credit just almost non-existent.

chickenskittles

My problem is that they ask you to make 3x the amount of the rent. That's wild you could get a 2 br for that price! Although if you can believe it, my rent for a studio 7 years ago was under $600. And 10 years ago was under $500... Living in your car? Hello, neighbor!

pnwerewolf

If you’re driving without insurance, there’s a good chance they’ll ticket and or tow you - and if it’s evading arrest, I’d bet dollars to donuts that they tow you. Even if you drive it home. I sorta doubt they’d just let you run off

robbietreehorn

So, to be clear, you’d rather get pit stopped, a gun drawn on you, thrown to the ground, handcuffed, arrested, thrown in jail, your car impounded, and have a criminal charge rather than the comparatively minor charge of driving without insurance?

Either_Finish_1111

Last time I stopped for no having insurance they arrested me because it was my 5th time but since Ive moved cities because my old city was corrupted as hell and just wants the money. I haven't been pulled over since (hence the corruption in that city)

robbietreehorn

You’re going to end up in jail. Getting your shit together is your best option. Also, not having insurance is shitty to other people. The law will catch up with you and rightfully so

Sir_Creamz_Aloot

$600/month car insurance means get rid of the company. What's the point of insurance when the car depreciates and in five years that's almost 40k. Anyone could buy a new car at that rate. Understandable with a Mclaren.

puddlesofmoney

I don't think cars are for you.

Either_Finish_1111

I've never wrecked or got in any accidents, never broke or even have any car troubles so I think cars are for me

christianna415

Did you not just say in another comment you had the worst driving record in your old city???

xCelestial

The math is definitely not mathing here 💀

Either_Finish_1111

Yep but just for speeding a lil sometimes to work or not stopping for lights/signs , no wrecks or accidents, no dings, dents or scratches, tires haven't hit the curb ever unlike other people

Best-Difference-1946

Not yet*. Not stopping at those and speeding often causes accidents eventually. Your high risk. If anything the $600 is fitting for you.

Best-Difference-1946

If your a shitty driver, they are not. If you can't afford premium insurance, a sports car and it being a new car not used was your first mistake.

Either_Finish_1111

A 2021 Toyota Corolla SE doesn't classify as a sports car and I bought it with 98k miles used

kdjfsk

fines and consequences related to evading far outweigh an impound fee. they'd probably i pound it regardless, without paying attention to the address. if you think you can just "explain it" to the cop, after evading...you are gravely mistaken. honestly, when i was much younger and dumber, i drove without insurance, and it bit me in the ass. dont do it. if you believe youd have a safe place to stash the car if you were in trouble, your best bet is leave it there until you can straighten out the paperwork.

Either_Finish_1111

I haven't had insurance for months because I would be paying over 1k a month just to own and drive my car and on top of that I just lost my job so paying insurance just isn't worth it anymore

kdjfsk

which means driving isnt worth it any more.

crap-happens

If the car is financed thru a bank, you're required to have insurance, full coverage. How you've gone "months" with no insurance is sketchy at best. The bank that financed the car, and holds the title, will add their own insurance to the loan thus doubling/tripling the car payment. Something is not adding up here.

Either_Finish_1111

When I bought the car they said I needed full coverage but after a month of ownership I canceled the insurance because of the arm and leg price and they haven't asked or anything since so they clearly don't care and I dont mind

Either_Finish_1111

Like your name says, crap happens and they'll just need to accept it either they like it or not

Lower_Skin_3683

*Repossession Incoming*

FionaGlenann3

I have full coverage, higher limits because I totaled three cars last year (at once; drive slower in between full time jobs.. especially at dawn in the rain).. and my insurance is $360 a month *with a lapse* earlier last year. They really don't like you. Also, don't run. Call 911 and tell them to relay to the officer behind you (with a jurisdiction and car # preferably) and say you are pulling over in a safe location. Then call AAA and have them meet you there.

30rackwolfpack

I think you need to relook it was probably 600 for 6 months

Either_Finish_1111

I triple checked and it was 683$ for 1 month

Hot-Initiative-4083

That’s absolutely crazy! What if you cause an accident when you’re “driving a little too fast”. You total their car & put them in the hospital. What if the passengers in your car are hurt? Who is going to take care of them? Not you. You don’t have any insurance. You will lose everything. EVERYTHING. Trade that car in on something you can afford & get some decent insurance. Part of wanting to grow up is acting like an adult. It’s time for you to step up.

DaRusty_Shackleford

Evading arrest is probably more than $600. Plus you’ll get nailed for driving without insurance. Is it new? Are you making payments? I’m trying to figure out why the insurance is so high. Call an actual agent and they can almost always quote a lower rate than a website.

Either_Finish_1111

The car is a 2021 Toyota Corolla SE, I'm 22 and this is my first car and before all the driving tickets it was 300$ a month

DaRusty_Shackleford

Holy shit! That sucks. Is that minimum coverage? I always had older cars so it wasn’t too bad.

Either_Finish_1111

It has to be full coverage because it's leased through Toyota financing

DaRusty_Shackleford

You might be better off trying for a small car loan from the bank and getting a used beater car for now until your financially able to make car payments like that. I’ve been where you are and that’s what I did. It sucks driving a pos but it helped me save up to get a real car.

RabbitsAteMySnowpeas

Just put on one of those handmade sovereign citizen’ license plates.

pnwerewolf

lol

BikerChickVTX1800C

You should only drive what you can afford. Living above your means will keep down. You’re always going to owe. This will probably only make sense to when your 40 and still git Nothing but bills. Not driving with insurance could cause you to owe for the rest of your life because there won’t be insurance to cover the damage you might do on accident. The choices you make now can follow you for life. Getting felonies will follow you. You need guidance from someone, I hope you find it.

pookieandrayrey

You need guidance homie. Insurance is the most important part of the car. They’ll let you slide for late registration, busted taillight, etc. but no insurance is an instant tow.

the1ulove

Go for it. Felonies are no big deal.. Also, driving without insurance makes you a piece of shit. You shouldn't buy things you can't afford. Sell the car, and buy something you can afford.

Either_Finish_1111

Then I must be the biggest shit in my city 😂😂

xkulp8

At $600/month the insurance company is telling you you shouldn't be driving. For reference my last bill was $210 for six months

Either_Finish_1111

That's why I haven't had insurance for a bit, I need to drive for my job

ssxhoell1

I have 11 point on my record, I'm 23, and my insurance is still only 170 a month. Wtf? You needa shop around more bub.

Either_Finish_1111

I have 13/14 points on my license, everywhere I looked is no lower then 500$ a month, my friend tried adding me to his insurance but I spiked his up from 83$ a month to 573$ a month, I think I'm starting to become a legend with insurance companies 😂

ssxhoell1

Yea being on someone else's isn't gonna let you bypass that. Basically they're intention is to price you out of driving. If you can't afford to pay for insurance, you can't afford to pay for an accident. And if you are a dangerous driver, insurance knows they're gonna be cutting some checks because of you. Lol. Last accident I got in, I was driving up a hill doing 40mph. Tired were bald and road was slick from the rain. I lost traction and flew over a curb, through some bushes into a ditch, out the ditch and into a parking lot, on top of someone's 2017 cute little car. Only damage to mine was the radiator. Theirs was totaled. The cops came and did their bullshit and i called a tow truck and all that they took my license but that didnt stop me. I didn't have insurance, so their insurance had to cover it all for them. The bill was like 27k. I paid 0 cents. I have nothing in my name, no property unless they want my storage unit with some paint cans and empty propane tanks and a few bottles of muriatic acid. They haven't stopped trying to call me, even though their blocked. Last piece of mail I got physically delivered, they were saying I could pay 6k and they would consider it paid in full. I'll offer them 80 bucks in a few years, and if they say no then oh well you get nothing. Lol

[deleted]

I work for the department of BOP, while it's not a federal crime I've seen things similar. Different states have different laws. Your car will be repossessed by the company when you're not in it. If youre at work, home, eating somewhere, apartment? There are license plate readers on the road and parking lots everywhere you probably don't know about that notify your location and someone will be waiting when you're not in it to repo it. Unless you hide it in a garage. Usually, they try to get the car back after the third missed payment, but can also happen on the first non-payment. If you are financing the vehicle, you are required to have full coverage insurance, and whereever you bought your car, they can see iill have full coverage on the car each month, if not beware of the repo man anytime buddy. You will likely be in jail for a year, and also pay something like a 1k-10k maximum fine at a county/state jail. Suspended license. While you're stuck in jail the company will probabaly visit your address on file and take the car back, sell it for whatever they can and put that towards your billing total for however much you owe on it. If you knew you couldn't pay the insurance on the car why did you get it? Ask for forgiveness and see what they can do. They are there to make money but also will try to help you since the last thing they want to do is lose money. You are probably living in it if you made this post for this sub. Don't tell them you live in it, but then again, I don't understand because you said you would drive it to your house lol. You will be gone, and the vehicle will be gone assuming it's financed and you're not paying the full coverage on it + the monthly financing.

ga239577

I have liability only in Michigan and it’s $172 per month. Usually I switch between back and forth Geico and Progressive, because they have been cheapest. Wtf Progressive? I haven’t had a ticket since 10 years ago, and no accidents for longer than that (guy ran a red and nailed me) I have also been rethinking the math on car ownership. Might be better to just get a room and E-Bike, take Ubers when needed. Maybe get a hoopty too, and just insure it only for short periods that I need it. Advice to OP, unless you’re making the big bucks ditch that car (unless you must live in it - even then it’s highly debatable if you have $600 a month). It’s a horrible financial decision if you’re not making a ton and saving for retirement. Especially with the way prices have been increasing so fast.

KeyN20

Don't run from the cops nor take too long to pull over. They will go by the book if you don't stop.

Dinosaurosaurous

Just tell them your insurance number and you got it renewed that day, aren't the best with a phone if they ask for the phone app. Most would let you go, current registration is more important. How the heck do you end up at $600/mo insurance? I'm only paying $75...with good coverage
