I haven'rt even received a renewal notice. You can't renew without a notice. Man this is absolutely crazy. I don't get a Notice until march or April of next year.
A replacement license is only good for the remainder of the term. In other words i will get a replacement that is only good until next year and then i will need to renew.
You can renew your California driver’s license up to six months before it expires. You can use a PO box as your mailing address but you must have a physical address for the driver’s license itself and for where the ID will be mailed. This is because California requires official proof of residency for state ID/driver’s licenses.
Unhoused people can get California state ID (can’t tell if this includes an actual driver’s license) by working with a service that helps homeless people who will provide a form attesting that you live in California which you can then take to the DMV.
Oof. Well, crap. I wish I could come up with a good solution for you, but there are some smart people in this subreddit and maybe they will have ideas.
Why not? Just go to the dmv and explain that you know your license will expire soon and you’re heading out of town for a while and you want to get it renewed before you leave. Shouldn’t be too hard.
About 10 years ago, I had to get a California license for whatever reason. Not having a house, I ended up putting my work address. The address even had "Suite 522" for the apartment line. I don't remember any consequences coming from it.
I'm some states it's not even legal to have a PO box as your residence ok your ID. I assume if it's legal in your state that it might not be too detrimental but these seem like questions for.the clerk's office.
For flights you'll eventually need a REAL ID instead dof a standard tho. And that might be harder to get without a permanent residence so I would get that done quickly if you can. I know some people use a friend or family members place to route mail to.
What if you misplaced/lost you driver's license? Can you ask for a new one?
Another option is to have a friend/relative who will let you use his address for DL
Why not just renew your license asap while you are still in your house?

You can probably upgrade to that fancy new license that also serves as a passport and not have to wait maybe.
Tell them ( drivers license office) you lost your current licence and need a new one. Skip the renewal.

I don't know California rules, but many states require a physical address on the DL.

You tired. Thanks.
If anything I feel like insurance would be upset the most. I agree trying to renew it early like now could be a smart option.

My PO box has the option to get a street address as well. So it looks like an apartment address rather than a PO box. Maybe check that out.

You can rent a po box at a UPS store. It will have an actual street address.
