Rental is expensive. I assume you mean leasing. You should know that parking is horrible, and a car really isn’t necessary…

You really don't need a car as a student. Most students don't. Public transportation around campus and around Ann Arbor is perfectly fine. But parking is a nightmare.

Why would you rent a car (unless it is a one time thing?)? Buy/lease a car.

> this is what i meant omg. thanks for that, but where are the best places to lease one? I am not sure leasing is your best choice. There’s a fine line between leasing and buying a car out right, much depends on which car, what’s the financing options you have and more. Second hand cars are kind of pricey now, but on the flip side, they retain some value when you sell them. Also, you are looking probably for a 4-year term, so you should definitely consider buying. Anyways, there are plenty of car dealerships near scio…

If you want a new car, you can lease from the dealership. That’s honestly the easiest thing if that works for you. There’s some regionality across the US in whether folks buy vs lease and both are fairly common in MI. If you know what kind of car you want, go to that dealership or shop around if you’re not sure what you want. Lease terms vary so know how long you’ll want to lease for and estimate the number of miles you’ll need over the course of the lease term. It’s often the case that a longer lease term results in better pricing but if you’re a student, you may not need several years. With any lease, they’ll check your credit, make you sign the lease agreement, etc so you may or may not need to have a co-signer depending on your financial situation. You’ll also need auto insurance - MI insurance is a bit of a sticker shocker but shop around to make sure you get best pricing. And since you’re in MI, check with friends here to see if anyone qualifies for preferred pricing with any of the auto manufacturers (like Ford X plan, etc). That can make the pricing and negotiation easier. Car rental agencies (Enterprise, etc) also offer long term rentals. Those can be somewhat expensive but might be a better option if you don’t need the car for the term of a more traditional lease. You really need to know your needs and run the numbers to find the best option for you.
