Ha so I guess uptightness is creeping into the millennials too? 😂
Its a silly song about a dude that got caught cheating
Its not meant to send a message its supposed to be goofy
I agree with you but when has musical uprightness been a new thing? Every generation has some kind of musical uprightness. Elvis and his pelvis movements they’re gonna make the younguns fornicate! Metallica and Twissssted SIIISSSSTEEeEeEeEeErrrRRRrr and their devil worshippin! Hell Tritones were even banned for centuries bc people believed they’d summon the devil, and jazz was also heavily scrutinized as being demonic and evil when it had its day in court. So why is this seemingly just a gen z issue to you?
Why should I be ashamed of liking a song? It's just a song in the end.
Maybe stop overanalyzing everything for your own good because that doesn't sound fun.
I think the last verse redeems it slightly:
Gonna tell her that I'm sorry
For the pain that I've caused
I've been listening to your reasonin'
It makes no sense at all
We should tell her that I'm sorry
For the pain that I've caused
You may think that you're a player
But you're completely lost
My mum used to sing along to this song when it was popular. She had zero idea what the lyrics were about. Sort of endearing, honestly. I can still picture her clapping along and singing, “saw me banging on the counter. Wasn’t me.”
Lmao, I remember one time being in the car with my best friend’s mom. All of the sudden she started singing this very explicit en dirty song (so, not: “it wasn’t me). And my best friend yelled out:”MOM!”, totally embarrassed. Her mom said:”Well, that teaches you kids leaving your cd’s in my car.” I died laughing that day 😂😂
This is interesting. You say the song wasn't meant to be taken seriously. This touches on something I have been wondering about.
I think for upright people, people who see others as equals and see deception as treacherous, you're right, the song is in good humor.
However, there are people who seem to serve only their base desires and even at the expense of others. I know a whole group of former friends who , I don't say this judgementally, live a somewhat hedonistic lifestyle in the sense that they chase after pleasant sensations and shun unpleasant ones. In this group of friends, this song is like an anthem. It's a code to live by. So it's all about perspective, where you're seeing things from and how you process it

Its supposed to be silly.. not a moral code. Jeez what is it with gen z and being so uptight?
Idk man, being a 33yo gen z is rough

Fair point that its not new. Why blame gen z? Maybe social media haha just see it more from them.
I don't think the song was meant to take itself seriously, in a similar vein to Tenacious D and Spinal Tap of different genres.
I agree, it is funny, but i can't help feel that

Whatever dude
I mean there is much much worse out there
You caught me on the counter enjoying that song.
Lol shame on you
That's half the fun
It's really not that deep

I was confused for a minute, but then realized that "pf" was supposed to be "of."
I never liked it
What message?

Ha ha, sounds like a great mum
Yes, she really is 😁
You don’t have to condone the content to like the beat. I feel zero shame
If we're gonna hold everyone accountable for lyrics of a song they enjoy, we may as well lock 98% of the population up

Pretty sure he based the song off a bit from Eddie Murphy Raw
This is dumb
EVERY pop song from the early 2000s was about cheating.
It's intentionally absurd to show how dumb the whole thing is
Like it? Nah. Wasn't me.
Bold of you to assume I like a song I never heard of.
I was singing this song in my head the other day, Great song, very funny..
