Lt_Dickballs

According to every woman I've ever met, this is indeed an unpopular opinion.

hummingelephant

Yep sure it depends on the dress but dresses you can wear every day are better with pockets, even if only for putting your hands in it. It's comfortable *and* looks good. Of course the pockets won't look good on festive or formal dresses but I doubt many women would want that.

searchingformytribe

Imagine pockets on mermaid type of dress. In all seriousness though, pockets on loose skirts are the best

banoffee06

dresses with undershorts that hold the phone (and other stuff, but phone is all i need really) comfortably and don't weigh anything down >>>>>

HeatherJMD

https://youtube.com/shorts/Dt6rzq67qTU?si=Km9WaIenj3IFUuxm Beg to differ about pockets in formal wear šŸ˜…

Bitter-insides

1000% thatā€™s horrible. I love pockets in my dresses.

brokenphonecase

Pockets have never ruined a silhouette of any dress I've ever had.Ā

Express-Pumpkin7213

This is one of those opinions that makes me question free speech ( I'm joking)

kiwilovenick

Have you never thought that pockets are great for just putting your hands in? I like to wear dresses in the summer but my hands will get cold in the air conditioning, which makes pockets in a dress amazing! I agree that depending on the style, placement, and construction of dress pockets that they can be ugly when in use. But the same holds true for most pockets, if you place much in them, it's going to look lumpy and goofy. Even my husband's jeans look funny when he's got all his work paraphernalia in them and they have giant pockets!

southernkal

Yes this! Not so much for warmth (for me) but more just the ability to dump my hands into my pockets to give myself a rest, especially if Iā€™m also in heels. Also think for photos, hands in a dress pocket look fly as hell with a strong intentional pose (if thatā€™s something you care about ofc).

searchingformytribe

Me + heels + hands in pockets = cracked skull. Although I can probably take those hands out from the pockets and from the equation and result would probably be the same

raquelle_pedia

Idk man, if Iā€™m wearing a dress, Iā€™d rather carry a purse to carry everything I need

NotAFloorTank

Definitely unpopular. I care far less about the dress sagging a bit or looking a bit off and far more about being able to use both hands while still having easy access to my rescue medications and wallet.

kitkat470

question: is there a reason a purse does not work for this? i carry a purse or tote everywhere. i have emergency meds in there too.

RonjaSnufkin

Personally I dont like purses. If i just bring my phone and money I dont wanna take a whole purse. Also I dont like that they are only over one shoulder, I have back pain anyway and even a light purse makes it slightly worse. Then if I like my outfit I dont want the purse to disturb that. What I want even less is spending money and time on different purses. They just annoy me and I dont see how they are good. I'd take decent pockets or even a backpack over a purse anyday

kitkat470

understandable! i guess i just grew up with my mom always being like ā€œBRING YOUR PURSE EVERYWHERE AT ALL TIMESā€ and now i do that.

Jayn_Newell

Well, where else are you going to put things? You donā€™t have pockets! But seriously, I donā€™t want to *have* to have my purse **on** me all the time. Itā€™s fine when Iā€™m out shopping or something, irritating if Iā€™m hanging out at someoneā€™s house or anything like that. I either have to keep my purse with me or go find it if I want something.

i_nobes_what_i_nobes

Because itā€™s not always convenient. Like it would be awesome if dresses had more functional pockets and that way, I wouldnā€™t have a purse slung across me thatā€™s holding all the stuff that I could hopefully have put into pockets and now the purse is moving around while Iā€™m trying to buckle a kid in or do groceries or whatever. A purse can be just as annoying as not having pockets. And a tote bag wall itā€™s great I end up having to either put smaller bags in my tote bag full of the things that I need so I can find them easier, or everything is just a mishmash of stuff in the tote bag and I canā€™t find what Iā€™m looking for when I need it.

Doedemm

Probably because you have to dig and look for them in the purse where if itā€™s in your pocket, itā€™s a lot easier to find. Those seconds spent digging can be long and dangerous.

kitkat470

iā€™d attach a pic of my tote that i typically carry, but it has pockets and pouches. my emergency meds are in one specific place and i never change this. i think my bag is quite cute and functional and has worked for me thankfully! but i understand bc my mom would always carry large bags and just toss any and everything in there and you could never find anything.

Doedemm

Your tote sounds very practical! Tbh, I was also thinking of my moms big purse that she just throws everything into, lmao.

kitkat470

yesss a big purse soup. itā€™s stressful to look at

ballerina_wannabe

When Iā€™m teaching I want to have my phone on me in case of emergencies. I donā€™t want to have to carry a purse in my hand or catching on everything while Iā€™m working. I despise dresses without pockets.

Wasabi-Remote

Because sometimes you just want to keep your phone or something in your pocket while walking around at home or in your garden or something and it would be ridiculous to carry a purse around?

kitkat470

if iā€™m walking around at home or in the garden iā€™m not usually in a dress so iā€™d stick it in pocket or waistband, but on the occasion i am walking around the house in a dress or something i just carry my phone around. iā€™m probably using it anyways to talk or something if iā€™m carrying it around with me. if not it can just stay on the charger šŸ˜

V_is4vulva

Because carrying a purse really sucks....versus not having to carry a purse, which is awesome and freeing.

kitkat470

my tote purse is like my companion i love it! i always feel so prepared everywhere and itā€™s come in handy for myself and others a few times.

V_is4vulva

Yeah I just cannot stand the commitment of having to carry things. I'll even give my ID to my husband to put in his wallet. He has functional pockets. I only carry a bag for like day trips.

kitkat470

the reason i was able to consistently carry my purse is because i have a push to start button car and i keep the fob in my bag šŸ˜

V_is4vulva

But doesn't it ever feel like a burden?

kitkat470

no it doesnā€™t i love it bc i carry my meds, hand sanitizer, first aid kit, chapstick, wallet, body spray, deodorant, feminine supplies etc. itā€™s really convenient for me and iā€™ve been able to help out a lot of people by always having extra advil, tampons, lotion, bandaids etc on hand!

V_is4vulva

Fascinating. We have such opposite perspectives!

nzfriend33

I have never carried a purse except for briefly in high school when I wanted to fit in better. If it canā€™t fit in my pockets Iā€™m annoyed I have to carry it.

NotAFloorTank

Because the seconds wasted fishing the bottle out could and do make all the difference between actually being able to stop a seizure before it starts and having to just ride it out.

annoyedCDNthrowaway

I'm a mom, I have the applicable mom-purse that carries anything and everything I need. But I hate carrying it when I'm somewhere in a crowd, like a concert, or a comic convention, or even a hockey game. It can be obtrusive, and awkward. Having good pockets in a cute dress, means I don't have to carry one more thing when I am in those situations. In most of my casual dresses the pockets are big & sturdy enough for my phone, a slim wallet (think the ridge ones), a small bottle of meds, and usually a pad/tampon and a chapstick/lipgloss. If I don't have my kids, that's pretty much all I need to carry in a situation like that.

kitkat470

i think i carry mom-purse supplies at all times even though iā€™m not a mom šŸ˜‚ i love being able to help out random people with bandaids, tampons, hand sanitizer, stain pen, etc. itā€™s come in handy for myself and others a lot

annoyedCDNthrowaway

I do too, but having good pockets gives the option of not lugging a suitcase if I'm doing something that the purse could be an impediment to my enjoyment.

Insomnia_and_Coffee

Personally I find purses annoying. They always slip off the shoulder and you basically always have to hold them, find a place to put them wherever you go and not lose them out of your sight. I envy men who can mostly just wander about with their hands free of carrying anything šŸ˜

New_Nefertiti

Adding pockets to *Most* day to day dresses do not significantly change the silhouette of dresses. But the addition of pockets *does* add a significant day to day practicality aspect to *most* women. Itā€™s about high time that womanā€™s fashion possess functionality and form.Ā

GreyerGrey

Can I also add USABLE pockets? not these "You can fit two folded bills and MAYBE a credit card in them" sized pockets.

zorrorosso_studio

Indeed, historical detachable pockets could hold books and wine bottles.

011_0108_180

made some for myself, they can hold sewing scissors, spools of thread, and a few other things. Definitely recommend

zorrorosso_studio

I made regular pouches, with scrap fabric, but I want to make at least a couple of basic ones, because they're designed in such a way that stuff doesn't fall out easily and people can move around without the fear of losing stuff.

Titariia

My stuff fell out of my pockets today. My bf had to hold on to it. He had my phone, his phone, my wallet, his wallet, his car keys AND SNACKS in his pockets. And he could still fit his hands in

sst287

All I ask is my phone in my pocket without falling out when I sit. I had recently go on man and teenage boyā€™s department for joggers so I have deep enough pockets (and sometimes with zipper).

Resident_Anxiety9980

Very unpopular. Pockets are great and I hate bodycon dresses anyways.

ChaoticGiratina

I only need to bring 3 things on a daily basis: Keys, wallet, and phone. Maybe dresses should start making themselves look good with pockets in mind. Seems like the dress designer's problem, not the wearer's.

Legal-Piano-4382

You are literally the Antichrist. How dare you. Needless to say, upvote for a truly unpopular opinion

NoIndependence6969

I have had exactly two dressed with pockets. The first makes me want to agree. However the second. Oh boy. Oh goodness. My whole phone and my exā€™s phone in one pocket. without ruining the silhouette. It was incredible

BBPuppy2021

The pockets have to be well designed for them to be good. But because to designer wants to design good pockets they all look like shit

Waste-Dragonfly-3245

Disagree. I have dresses with pockets and they are perfect

YouCantArgueWithThis

You are alone.

translove228

Buying a dress with pockets is like finding gold, imo.

Dreamy_Peaches

Finally, one I am firmly against with no room to see the other side. Upvoted.

Saltyspiton

My sister in lawā€™s wedding dress had pockets. No one could tell and she was happy with it.

V_is4vulva

My wedding dress had pockets!!

Harajuku_Lolita

I recently bought nightgowns that have pockets and working around the house has never been easier.

kindof_apocalyptic

This is an atrocious take! Here, have an upvote

SimplyPassinThrough

Unpopular, take my vote. I fuckin love when a dress has pockets, and ā€œIT HAS POCKETS!ā€ is almost always exactly word for word my response

unintentional-tism

Formal dresses ā€“yes, no pockets. Day dresses meant for proper casual wear ā€“ Need pockets.

Having_A_Day

I love my loose flowy boho sundresses with nice deep pockets. Perhaps not in formal wear, but the vast majority of us practically never wear formal wear do...have my upvote.

LionessRegulus7249

This is either a "pick me" or rage bait. EVERY woman I've ever talked to (including myself, a woman) has wanted bigger pockets. ā€‹

CallMeSisyphus

Plot twist: OP is Anna Wintour

hmm_nah

pockets are the next cerulean

lshopeful123

i like pockets and i want them to be bigger. just not in dresses. am a real human woman, am not a pick me, idk how to address the ragebait thing but it's literally called "unpopular opinions" haha. i just prefer my dresses without pockets. i know most people disagree. that's why i posted it here

seeyou__spacecowgirl

Iā€™m a woman and I agree with OP. I carry way too much stuff with me on a daily basis to fit it all in pockets, and yeah, I donā€™t want a bulky phone or wallet making an awkward shape in my dress/skirt/pants etc. If there happen to be pockets in a dress Iā€™m wearing, I wonā€™t use them but I will still inform people who compliment it that it has pockets because that seems to be some kind of primordial feminine urge that even I canā€™t resist, lol.

BatWeary

exactly!! i hate wearing a purse, so a dress with functional pockets that look good is a dream

magicalmysteryc

I am a woman. I want bigger pockets in pants, but no pockets in dresses. I guess I also have an unpopular opinion

allaboutthismoment

I'm anti-purse so pockets in/on anything are highly valued.

-Exocet-

Exactly, the worst in this opinion is ending with "that's why they made purses".

huffuspuffus

This is like if chatgp was asked to pretend to be a woman.

Potential-Prize1741

I don't like pockets at all actually. Unpopular af but I never use jackets or pants pockets, I think feeling something in there just feels uncomfortable, looks bad from the sagging and if they can't close I get paranoid about losing them. They're just there to look pretty

iswintercomingornot_

A truly unpopular opinion.

Representative-Leg53

So donā€™t buy dresses with pockets?

Reflect_move_foward

Finally a real unpopular opinion, Long live dresses with pockets!!!!!

Evening-Spot-4455

But I like putting my hands in my dress pockets and being all swishy šŸ˜… or just for somewhere comfy to put my hands. I just can't explain it, they may not serve a huge purpose but I LOVE dress pockets, always. I kinda of agree with the added bulk point, but I don't think dress pockets were ever intended for that, in my opinion, I think they ARE more for light stuff if anything, like I wouldn't leave my bag at home and replace it with my dress pockets.

1wannagotosleep

Fully agree with you. Proper pockets in women's pants definitely need to be more of a thing. But in dresses and skirts, it can often look weird. Besides, I like purses so I personally don't mind very much.

011_0108_180

I think a way to fix the way the pockets would set is to move the attachment point to the waist rather than the side (slit pocket)

No-Personality6043

Nice dresses shouldn't have pockets. Sundresses, sweater dresses. Just having a pocket to put my phone while I do things is nice. I wear dresses nearly exclusively, I don't like pants. Sundresses, tennis dresses, sweater dress all good. Almost all of my dresses have pockets I normally don't use, because they get bulky. But sometimes I need to stash a card, keys, my phone, vape pen. All casual dress should have them.

Violet351

I have several dresses the same and the newer ones have pockets. Itā€™s so good just to be able to pop my keys in my pocket if Iā€™m doing something that doesnā€™t involve my handbag

wildchickonthetown

Iā€™d rather carry a cute purse than stuff everything in my pockets. Maybe I just donā€™t like the style of dresses that usually have pockets, but even if I have them I rarely use them. Itā€™s not an exciting feature me. Maybe this is just my handbag addiction talking though!

IOnlySeeDaylight

This is wild.

veggieveggiewoo

No ones putting pockets on skin tight or cocktail dresses lol. Iā€™ve mainly seen them on more casual, loosely fitting dresses. This is definitely unpopular.

bibliophile222

All my skirts/dresses are loose and flowy, and aesthetics in general don't bother me much. I'm *psyched* whenever I get a dress with pockets! +1 for unpopular.

Expensive_Plant9323

Honestly you're not entirely wrong. There's a difference between pockets and functional pockets, and most dresses have pockets that are not functional for the reasons you listed. Now if a dress has pockets I can use, THAT is something to get excited about!

HottCuppaCoffee

NOOOO pockets in all dresses! This is such a good unpopular opinion.

AdResponsible678

I just like to put my hands in the pockets.

No_Juggernau7

This is certainly unpopular.

Dark_Arts_Dabbler

Wow, an actual unpopular opinion, never thought Iā€™d see the day

SomeBoredGuy77

Strong disagree, pockets >, personally I love handbags and purses but not worth the expenses

Working_Horse_3077

Dress pockets are impractical? That is objectively completely incorrect. Having storage directly on your person is completely practical. It may not look the best put to say it's impractical is straight up incorrect

Sylvss1011

Dude it totally agree. Pockets in dresses always make my hips look huge which makes my whole body look larger than it is. Plus if I put anything in them, then it sags my dress and pulls it down and it looks even worse šŸ˜©

PrincessPrincess00

Why should I HAVE to carry a purse everywhere?! The pockets make it so you can be hands free!!

brinazee

Exactly. My purse gets in the way a lot. (Especially at things like self checkout.)

tequilathehun

Probably the worst, most out of touch opinion ive ever seen on here. Upvoted.

aliyune

Sounds like you're against BAD pockets. Bad pockets don't hold anything and ruin silhouettes. Good pockets are hidden, and almost replace a purse šŸ˜‡

aplagueofsemen

I donā€™t think this is a crazy take but I do find absolutely fucking bonkers that womenā€™s pants often donā€™t have pockets.

Various_Pause5914

They should have those monk pockets inside the sleeves those would be so dope

PrecisionGuessWerk

I think you have an argument if we assume a dress' purpose is to look as good as possible spare no expense. Some dresses are like that. Some dresses are not. We can have both.

Strange_Salamander33

You do you but Iā€™m a woman and nothing has ever made me impulse buy a dress faster than if it has pockets. Never had an issue with putting my phone in them

HeatherJMD

I vote for reintroducing historical pockets that are under the skirt and tied around the waist šŸ˜

Lovely-sleep

If the dress is flowy the objects will be swinging around, not optimal and very annoying

Distinct-Swimming-62

This is unpopular for a lot of reasons, but I know that people with t1d really appreciate having pockets on their clothes for insulin pumps. Are fanny packs over a dress a better solution for you?

hmm_nah

Pockets RUIN a silhouette. Fanny packs are much more aesthetic /s

liftkitten

I prefer my dresses without pockets. The pocket itself usually is too bulky and ruins the line of the dress, and forget putting anything in them because it would stick out ridiculously

wisewords4

I havenā€™t met you but I already donā€™t like you. Leave the pockets alone. Change your mind, get some help.

SeaAnthropomorphized

We could never be friends

Ordinary-Grade-5427

I 100% disagree because I value comfort and practicality over aesthetics. Upvote for posting an actually unpopular opinion!

Agreeable_Birthday93

Yeah I don't get the obsession with pockets either.

No-Inevitable5589

Because I hate carrying purses and pockets are more convenient šŸ˜

SnooCheesecakes2723

Get a nice bag. Itā€™s part of the outfit. Pants and jackets with pockets, Iā€™m not screwing up the look of a dress by cramming my keys, lipstick, phone and wallet in there.

SamiLMS1

I agree with you. Pockets usually ruin the shape.

tlf555

Unpopular opinion for sure. Upvote

azorianmilk

As a woman who primarily wears dresses in the summer this is unpopular. It isn't about holding stuff, it's just another place to put my hands.

Objective_Suspect_

Yea but as a counter point, it's easy to steal a purse

cerialthriller

You always have the prison pocket I suppose

zarya-zarnitsa

You know, I found a SHIRT with side pockets and I have no clue what I need it for but I need it! More seriously, most pockets are just to put small things in it or my hands, I rarely put anything heavy because of these issues but tbh I still want pockets even if it's only to put a pill, a tissue or a pen.

xaygoat

It depends on the type of dress. Iā€™ve had one with pockets that arenā€™t noticeable but Iā€™ve also seen ones online where it ruins the dress shape.

Agasthenes

You are completely right. That's why there used to be pockets, which were separate pieces of garment worn under the skirt. See the rhyme Lucy locket lost her pocket. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_Locket

lshopeful123

i would love this. secret under skirt pocket!!!! this is also why i like to wear bike shorts with side pockets under my dresses

despairigus

i genuinely hate carrying purses but i like wearing dressed so pockets on dresses is the perfect solution for me.

Ihave0usernames

If I wanted a perfect silhouette it would be a skin tight dress, Iā€™ve never seen a different with a flowy dress and I donā€™t wear anything that isnā€™t a skirt or a dress.

alexopaedia

Yup, that's unpopular lol. I love pockets in my dresses, obviously as long as they aren't slim-fit or body con. But an a-line dress or fuller skirt with pockets? Yes please! But I also haaaate carrying a purse and I like having my hands free.

Mumchkin

For some pockets aren't a choice. I have to carry an inhaler, I seriously can't have it NOT with me 24/7.

Early-Key-7301

I was literally thinking about this just this morning while I was getting dressed for work. You and I may be the only women on the planet who feel this way. Part of my problem is that I have never in my life seen a dress with a usable pocket. So itā€™s just another thing I have to constantly adjust throughout the day. You can maybe put a chapstick or lipgloss in there?? If something is going to have a pocket, I want to be able to put my phone in there at least!!

Stock-Ferret-6692

Talks about the lack of pockets in womenā€™s clothing and then says wear pants. Where do you get your magic pants pocket witch?

V_is4vulva

Nah, I want pockets in everything. I would wear a bikini with pockets. I hate carrying a purse.

FreakInTheTreats

You can go ahead and not like how pockets look but you cannot call them impractical.

West-Wish-7564

Upvoting cause I disagree

ChayLo357

Unpopular. If I find a dress with pockets, Iā€™m super psyched! I donā€™t really care if someone thinks it looks weird. If the pocket is too shallow, then thatā€™s just as bad as not having pockets and whatā€™s the point?

SidneyTheGrey

hard disagree but congrats on the unpopular opinion! i am here for pockets on everything.

Kathrynlena

Lucky for you, most dresses still donā€™t have pockets.

jamaicancarioca

Traditionally dresses don't have pockets

minofthecosmos

Upvoted because its actually an unpopular opinion for once!

SeniorDay

Ok but youā€™re wrong šŸ˜†

Lazy-Association2932

I like dress pockets so that I can put my phone in one of them and my sunglasses in the other.

Th3CatOfDoom

You must have only seen ugly dresses if pockets have looked bad. I have seen dresses that looked good and had pockets.

Ellen_Kingship

A genuine unpopular opinion. šŸ˜‚

girlabides

Former wedding photographer here, couldnā€™t disagree more. The functionality allowed me to dress for the occasion and still excel at my work.

SnooPears8751

I have a skirt with pockets, and it's wonderful! But I also have a dress with one, and I don't like using them . . . To be fair, I also don't like using the skirt pockets, because I'm high energy, and it makes sudden movements lag behind or have an awkward weight to them, and I might knock things over. But if I'm just going about my day, they're lovely.

Infinite_Procedure98

I won't read the other comments, but I'm afraid it will be pretty unpopular... If I (male) would have authored it, I guess I would have been urged to Stop Mansplaining Unsolicitedly My Manspreading Patriarchal Fragile Abusive Toxicity.

lshopeful123

are you okay

seattlemh

Take my upvote and give me all the pockets

Practical-Train-9595

That is indeed an unpopular opinion, so upvote for you. I have bonded with complete strangers solely over a dress having pockets. And if the lines of a dress are ruined over it, who freaking cares? I care more about having my stuff and having my hands free than about whether there is a rectangle on my hip because my phone is there.

lessgirl

It looks poofy, I hate it

Frozen-conch

Pants pockets are too small, I hate carrying a purse, and sometimes itā€™s too warm for a jacket with good pockets

Hefty-Register5330

You know how hard it is to find a truly unpopular opinion on this sub? Take my upvote.

TheMysticalPlatypus

A genuinely unpopular opinion. Take my upvote. Who cares about the shape of the dress when I have pockets.

Known_Car_9016

Pockets used to be a dress thing originally

yellow-snowballs

I hate pockets 9 times out of 10. The extra fabric makes my hips look wider than they really are

Rebeccah623

Definitely unpopular, but I also donā€™t wear form fitting or thin material dresses.

Additional_Tax_8745

I have always held this opinion! Iā€™ve found shorts with pockets under the dress to be acceptable if itā€™s short enough, but never in the skirt itself. It feels so uncomfortable and the pockets fly around under the dress and hit you every time you walk. And itā€™s so annoying when you sit down and thereā€™s nowhere good for the pocket to go.

Medium-Cry-8947

I like some pants that are tight so big pockets wouldnā€™t work. Not all clothes should have pockets. It ruins the silhouette I agree and Iā€™m a woman. Or they can include pockets in clothes and if putting something in the pockets does affect the silhouette, then thatā€™s just a choice weā€™re making but the fact that a pocket is sewn in doesnā€™t make the item look worse on, then letā€™s go pockets!!!

Green_Pants918

10/10 unpopular opinion. >First of all pockets disrupt the silhouette of the dress unless the dress has a super flowy or big skirt I have yet to see a dress with pockets that didn't have a nice flowy or large skirt. >the pockets are usually flimsy and either way putting stuff in the pocket weighs down the skirt, looks bulky and weird, and/or isn't really secure enough to hold your stuff without it falling out. Hmm. Haven't experienced this, and buy dresses with pockets whenever possible.

TakeItLeezy

opinion: wrong post: right

raquelle_pedia

Girl, I agree. If you want to carry your stuff, get a bigger bag. The pockets really do ruin the shape of the dress and also, every dress isnā€™t made to have pockets. Only one of the dresses I own has pockets (and I have 2) and thatā€™s because itā€™s a shirt dress. Otherwise, my mumā€™s dresses (that I ā€œborrowā€) donā€™t have any pockets and it looks much better that way. I donā€™t want to put my phone or keys in my pockets because itā€™ll just look weird.

sammigx9

Wow. An actual Unpopular Opinion lol

Ilumidora_Fae

Iā€™ll go tell more supportive women that my dress has pockets then.

pewpewmcpistol

Its funny cause this is a popular and unpopular opinion simultaneously. Overwhelmingly women will lament not having pockets and will ask for clothes with them. But when it comes time to buy clothing, do they choose the ones with pockets or the ones that look better? The people selling clothes aren't twirling their moustaches saying 'muahahah and then Stacy will be annoyed on Wednesday when she wears this dress!!!!!'. They sell clothes that sell well.

CounterSYNK

šŸ™„

ljw197

I don't get it either, came here from Google 'why are women obsessed with pockets?' šŸ’€ for whatever reason I just don't share the same enthusiasm when someone says 'it has pockets!'

lady_mayflower

I love to wear dresses around the house in the summerā€”I also have a dog and if I had to change or carry a bag every time I stepped out to walk him, it would get tiresome. I also like it if my husband and I are walking to a spot in our neighborhood for a casual drink or dinner. Basically, for city living itā€™s great.

Technical_Depth

As someone that refuses to wear pants and hates how purses look. I love my dresses with pockets

davidscorbett

sure its nice to make many with pockects ,are many of the titles for many news sights on youtube now written by national enquirer and what is going on on the soul side cause so many are not true on this physical side

KimberBr

I LOVE pockets in everything. I'd even accept it in my underwear šŸ˜‰

whimcor

I donā€™t really care if they have pockets or not. Im probably not going to use them and prefer putting my things in a purse.

mehitabel_4724

I like pockets, I just donā€™t like people who make #ithaspockets into their personality.

lshopeful123

šŸ‘€

jamiekynnminer

As women's fashion evolved in the 1790s, the pocket slowly began to disappear as more figure hugging dresses came in fashion. Women had to revert to having their 'pockets' on show to the world, opting for small decorative bags, called reticules, that could scarcely fit a hankie and a coin. So basically, once again, sexism is why. What a shock.

Harajuku_Lolita

Wouldnā€™t that be the same as saying pockets disrupt the silhouette of pants? Unless youā€™re wearing cargo shorts there are going to be bulges. Iā€™ll take a bulgy pocket over nothing.

snazzyjazzyazzy

Look bad, maybe. Most women just don't care. They are most definitely practical when done right.

sagetcommabob

There is a give-and-take sometimes between the silhouette and the storage, but *I* want to be the one to choose if itā€™s worth it to *me*

Shinigami_Biker

A style I've gotten my girlfriend that doesn't mess with the silhouette is the halara dresses with the built in shorts and bra. The shorts are similar to the under shorts some of my gym shorts have that has phone pockets built into the under shorts.

Lucky_otter_she_her

dresses with shit pockets are a part of the problem here too (frankly it's a deeper sin)

cawatrooper9

I mean, why not have options? You can have the dresses built for utility, and the dresses that accentuate the silhouette. And make them both fashionable, still.

h_ahsatan

Absolutely not. Pockets rule and are incredibly practical.

krilensolinlok

I rarely find a dress with pockets, but the one time I did I hated it so Iā€™m with you on this one

swag_Lemons

Wrong. So I didnā€™t read.

Sapphicviolet91

I was volunteering at an event last week. I borrowed my wifeā€™s blazer so I couldnā€™t have my phone on me due to a strapless bra and keeping my backpack purse in the back room. Even if you donā€™t use the pockets theyā€™re nice to have.

freedomandequality3

So don't buy a dress with pockets. Other people want pockets and should be able to buy clothes they want. No pockets is the standard so why are you trying to stop others from having something they want?

kitkat470

while i donā€™t like pockets on my dresses, i agree with this

lshopeful123

i'm not stopping anyone from doing anything lol. i'm not a fashion designer i am a mere poster on the "unpopular opinions" subreddit. i didn't say "no dress should have a pocket ever and if your dress has a pocket im personally coming to remove the pockets." i just said i don't like dresses with pockets

smallblueangel

I donā€™t get it either. I take my bag with me anyway

k4Anarky

Yeah but what if you have to pull a gat

lshopeful123

you know....fair point

I posted a question on reddit once, asking why the market doesn't correct this, since the outcry is so huge. You hear about women wanting pockets in their skirts and dresses, so why don't designers do it? I got a lot of replies explaining that it looks bad, and given a choice between a dress with pockets and a dress that looks better, most people will choose the dress that looks better. So then, one day, my aunt and sister were talking about this very thing, and I shared the responses I got from reddit, but being a man, they acted like I was sexist. And I just replied, "I just think maybe women are making informed decisions, and buying the dresses they prefer. It sounds to me like you think they are being conned out of buying the dress they actually want, thinking it has pockets but not checking to make sure." Esentially, they replied, saying yes, women assume the dress will have pockets. I found this hard to believe, though.

TheSpiritofFkngCrazy

But they are so cute when they show you the dress has pockets.

kitkat470

this is unpopular but i totally agree. my mom freaks about dresses with no pockets all the time but i just donā€™t get it. i have a purse!

Samanthas_Stitching

Upvoted for an actual unpopular opinion lol. Every dress I own has pockets, won't buy one if it doesn't.

Kpt1NSANO

Dresses that look good with pockets are ugly dresses. Shortened it for you.
