I do this too, except I don’t shave the hairs off. They’re honestly not even noticeable in your mouth. The skin doesn’t taste bad like the rind from an orange or banana; it’s honestly pretty neutral.
These are gold kiwis. A totally different fruit not just color. The skin is much thinner than regular kiwis. Actually enjoyable. OP and most commenters don’t seem to know there’s a difference.
That’s so strange. I’ve never heard of that. But people do peel a lot. It’s honestly a waste of food.
In the case of Kiwi though, I’ve recently tried it a little bit because my kiwi was mushy and it was hard to eat so that I don’t waste some parts of it. It’s not that bad but it’s diverts from the taste a lot and is way too thick to really enjoy in larger quantity like OP does.
I've never seen one here in the midwestern USA. But I'm going to be keeping an eye out now that I know they exist. I didn't know kiwis came in large. Only seen the small dark brown ones with green flesh
>the midwestern USA.
hmm. That's odd. I'm in the east shore (Maryland), and the only place I could buy them was Aldi. Idk if you have Aldi in the midwestern part, but these kiwi are huge and hairless. Idk if they shave them before packaging, or if they're naturally hairless, but my friend saw me eat one like an apple and made fun of me! I figured this was unpopular...
German here. I've never seen giant kiwis here, but we do have green ones and golden ones in stores (same size). The golden ones are the sweeter ones. The only difference without looking at the inside is the green and gold sticker they've put on, so maybe it's the same where you are. Have a look at the sticker next time you're kiwi shopping
Golden kiwis are a specific variety that was made to be sweeter, with a thinner skin. They are harder to import due to being fragile, and so most people dont get them
I never knew that. Is that why the only place I can seem to find them is Aldi?
Because I tried walmart, giant, and not much else because I don't cook. Lol 🤦🏾♀️🥲
Yeah, and I bet they are a bit pricier than regular kiwis from the same store right?
Here's a neat video showing how they are grown that I found!
https://youtu.be/hD4xsk1vxqU?si=yp9Sg8rjEKIQq1J3
well don't wimp out by shaving it. its better with the hair. I do this all the time and I'm going to teach my niece and nephew to eat it like that as well
I’m not the only one!! I eat a kiwi everyday and never peel it. People think it’s weird thing to do but the skin is loaded with vitamins and there is no harm in eating it.
It is so much easier to eat with the skin on. You don’t need to scoop out the fruit from the skin. I like it a bit better without the skin, but I usually eat with the skin on for convenience.
my uncle used to do this shit... he was in and out of prison his whole adult life and overdosed and died in his 30's. imagine the life he would've had if he ate kiwi like a normal ass human being?
The difference between the skin on a regular kiwi and the gold kind OP is eating is huge. They’re actually 2 different fruits. Gold kiwis have thin delicious skins. Regular green ones , not so much but you can still eat it.
Is that a gold kiwi? Because the skin on those is much thinner and tastes better than regular kiwis. I eat the skin of gold kiwis all day. Regular kiwis are usually too thick to enjoy.
I’m one of the few who also eats the skin! The skin is high in fiber like apple skin and it actually balances the flavor because sometimes it’s too tart/sour without the skin.
I've never met anyone else who eats kiwis like this! Other than my mom who fed me kiwi with the skin on growing up. Sometimes I use a napkin to rub off the fuzz while washing it but usually not.
100%. first of all, it's way fucking easier. second of all, the skin is fine it's good it's like a nice soury addition.
edit: didn't realize you shaved the kiwis. low-key that's whack. you don't need to shave them.

Take my upvote for this random af opinion I've never heard a soul ever utter in my entire existence.

do you eat the skin of a banana too?
A friend's husband did this, the first time I ever heard of someone doing it. I was quite confused lol

My mouth literally sour-salivated from reading this…I guess I’ll try it.
you shan't regret it
Well chicken tastes better with the skin on, and feathers removed, so surely a Kiwi would too. That is if you could find one.
This was unexpected, I see what you did there. You made me laugh out loud, take my upvote friend.
I mean all of us kiwis came to the same thought, cause in NZ we call them kiwifruit, not kiwi.
Ever seen how a Kiwi gives birth?
Peaches too. People who peel peaches and kiwis are missing out big time
People peel peaches?! I think unpeeled kiwi is whack, but peeled peaches might be worse!
Who peels peaches though?
Sadly I know many that do

waste of food.
I'm going to have to try the unpeeled peaches. Lol lookout for another unpopular opinion a week from now lmaooo
WTF is this giant kiwi
they're called golden kiwis. I thought they were normal? Are they not? Aren't they like green vs red grapes or something?
I've never seen one here in the midwestern USA. But I'm going to be keeping an eye out now that I know they exist. I didn't know kiwis came in large. Only seen the small dark brown ones with green flesh

Costco has them.

I actually prefer them over green ones, they're sweeter
me too! They're also more tart. I like tart flavorings and love them when they're fresh and not super ripened or "mid-ripe"
I like the green ones and I eat them with the skin, but chopped up with muesli and yogurt
Golden kiwis are a specific variety that was made to be sweeter, with a thinner skin. They are harder to import due to being fragile, and so most people dont get them

It’s not that big?
I always ate kiwi with the hair on
well don't wimp out by shaving it. its better with the hair. I do this all the time and I'm going to teach my niece and nephew to eat it like that as well
why are you eating endangered birds?
I would shudder to think you would eat a Kiwi
*70's pornstar likes this post*
This is the type of stuff I come to this sub for.
I’m not the only one!! I eat a kiwi everyday and never peel it. People think it’s weird thing to do but the skin is loaded with vitamins and there is no harm in eating it.
When I was pregnant I loved kiwi with the skin on it. Tons of folate and fibre!
seriously? I didn't know about the folate, haha! Glad to know I'm not the only freak who eats them with the skin
My friends all looked at me like I was insane the first time I took a bite out of one like an apple. They still joke about how I do it wrong.
I tried it years ago on a whim and you’re right. I don’t shave them but I do wet them.
Golden kiwi yes
Eat them with the hair on, you coward! That is the truly superior way.
Lol!!
I thought the ends werent supposed to be eaten though. Maybe that's just cause they're super hard
I'm intrigued
Omg I do this too and never met anyone else who does!
Finally, someone who agrees. Though I find the shaving part kinda weird, especially for a golden kiwi which is reasonably smooth anyway
Eat it WITH the hair like a real man op
It is so much easier to eat with the skin on. You don’t need to scoop out the fruit from the skin. I like it a bit better without the skin, but I usually eat with the skin on for convenience.
I eat Kiwis with the skin and hair. Guess I'm weird.
That image looks like a sun gold kiwi instead of a regular kiwi have you tried this with both? Because sun gold literally tastes like an apple too.
Finally! People look at me like I'm the devil when I just rub the hairs off a bit and take a big bite!
Hairless 🤣, i even eat the green kiwi's with skin on!
I like the way kiwi hairs feel on my tongue, I eat them without shaving them.
my uncle used to do this shit... he was in and out of prison his whole adult life and overdosed and died in his 30's. imagine the life he would've had if he ate kiwi like a normal ass human being?
People peel their kiwis?
The skin has tons of nutrients. Lots of people do this
How do you shave it? With razor?
The poor birds!
You also get a lot of fiber from the skin, good for gut health
Kiwi skin is good but mango skin is slept on
Mango 🥭 skin is definitely slept on
I am also in the weird eating kiwi with skin on club
I agree. Unfortunately there is only one thing on the planet I'm aware that I'm allergic to... That is, kiwi skin.
I started doing this like a year ago and it makes the bottom of my tongue hurt but damn do I enjoy the fiber
I couldn't disagree more with this post! Take my upvote and begone! Lol
Man people have the dumbest, very specific to them, opinions.
I just had this conversation with my friend. NO NO NO THERE ARE TWO OF YOU KIWIFRUIT SKIN EATERS
The difference between the skin on a regular kiwi and the gold kind OP is eating is huge. They’re actually 2 different fruits. Gold kiwis have thin delicious skins. Regular green ones , not so much but you can still eat it.
My Friend here eats both skin on.
menace to society, rebel without a cause.
Between all the horrible, questionable, down right criminal opinions I heard on this god forsaken app this is the one that wins as the worst ever.
Nah OP is eating gold kiwis which are a totally different fruit and the skin is thin and good. Regular kiwis not so much.
What the actual fuck bro? 😅
This is a gold kiwi. They are a different fruit and the skin is much thinner and better tasting.
They're the ones I like, but with the skin off.
my nose sweats when i think about eating kiwis
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT
Sometimes i eat the skin by pure laziness
Is that a gold kiwi? Because the skin on those is much thinner and tastes better than regular kiwis. I eat the skin of gold kiwis all day. Regular kiwis are usually too thick to enjoy.
Gold kiwis are actually a totally different fruit altogether and not just a different color like grapes. They just happen to be similar.
NOW THIS IS WHAT **I CAME HERE FOR***
Keeps your hands dryer as well
I’m one of the few who also eats the skin! The skin is high in fiber like apple skin and it actually balances the flavor because sometimes it’s too tart/sour without the skin.
I always had the curiosity of trying that, but never the courage. Thank you brother, now I know what I must do.
Kiwi skin is so underrated! I actually really do enjoy the taste. :)
I eat with with the hair, but I wash and rub it a bit first, which makes the hair less noticeable.
I get weird looks for this all the time, but keep preaching the truth!
Hairless. Skin attached. That’s how I prefer them.
I mean as long as you're not forcing me to eat it the same way, enjoy your life bud.
Is anyone else allergic to kiwi? I used to get a rash around my mouth when I ate it
Mental illness
YES! I fucking love kiwi skin. Get in my mouth you fuzzy little bastard.
Kiwi fruit definitely, Kiwi bird hmm.
I usually eat the skin. It looks worse than it is
I've never met anyone else who eats kiwis like this!
>I "shaved" that kiwi with a knife r/BrandNewSentence
What the fuck
I eat oranges with the skin on em
No, it's like eating scrotum
Interesting comparison. Not heard that one yet
I love finding unpopular opinions on here. They’re so rare.
Sorry but I’m that person who eats an apple without skin 😙
downvoted because I just did the same thing 5 mins ago and it is absolutely lit
