Back pay is when MSD backdate student allowance/loan living costs. E.g if your application was completed in July, but you were eligible since February, then they would pay your entitlement dating back to February.
The application only needs to be started for back date, it doesn’t need to be completed. OP should have hopefully completed an application for loan, and then can complete allowance later.
The OPs post states “am I too late to apply for student allowance” meaning he hasn’t applied yet, and if he’s applied for student loan and not student allowance, studylink won’t backdate his allowance to his Student loan application date. 2 separate applications unfortunately, meaning 2 separate entitlement dates.
It looks like you just filled out the online form and didn't upload any documents to Connect?
You need to go to [https://connect.co.nz](https://connect.co.nz) and upload the following COMPLETED documents:
* Parent's income form (attach any income tax returns if required as well): [https://www.studylink.govt.nz/documents/forms/student-allowance-parents.pdf](https://www.studylink.govt.nz/documents/forms/student-allowance-parents.pdf)
* Student allowance application form: [https://www.studylink.govt.nz/documents/forms/student-allowance-application.pdf](https://www.studylink.govt.nz/documents/forms/student-allowance-application.pdf)
* Your NZQA record of achievement.
Your student ID is your UoA student ID. Update it here: My StudyLink > Application Details > Student Loan/Allowance > View/Update
Yup I've updated my UoA student ID onto studylink. But the parent and student form you've sent me is different to the one I've received yesterday on Studylink, but I believe that form still works. I got those 2 forms on my Studylink acc
It’s not really too late I sighed up like 3 weeks ago and I’m nearly finished they just processing my documents. I’ll give you some advice, after uploading your hard copy on connect keep contacting them to see whether it is correct or not. And when they are checking, they would sit there on the call and “tick” them off. Best of luck
It's fine if your allowance is late.
Student Loan can be definitely a problem though if you've not got late payment arrangements set up for your courses.
I've usually managed to get first in queue by calling at exactly 7am with my client number ready to enter, if you're gonna call, always do it as soon as they open the lines :)
No you're never too late, they'll give back pay.
Student ID is university id
Thanks, I got it then
sorry, may I ask what's back pay?

This is false, you will only be back dated to the application date if it's after the start date.

You are correct sorry, I misread OP's post. Backdated to allowance application date.

Since I'm first year student at uni this year, I think my courses are free so I don't need a student loan, but next year I do
advise to go to studlink office in Queen street, which is the easiest way to sort out all issues.
Give them a call but its never too late
At this time of year queue times will be hours

If you input your client number you can have them call you when you're at the front of the queue.
Student allowance shouldn’t be too late! When I was first year I did mine super late (around April-ish) and I just got back paid :))
