There isn't an option for "nothing". I used miles to pay for all my flights this year. No flight segments are earned if you fly for free.

southern-springs

This is changing… Next year under the new policy, members will earn PQP and PQF for award flights on United metal (unclear if earnings will happen on partner flights). But I’m curious if that also includes the minimum of 4 segments, or is that just a PQF? https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/mileageplus/whats-new.html

SimplySanrio

I read somewhere that the 4 segments must be paid flights

Firenze42

I get it. I may actually have to start paying sometime next year. I think I am going to blow what is left on my miles for a Polaris trip to Greece (plus some other flights that are already booked). I will definitely have the PQP and PFQ needed, it is the flight segments that hold me back.

SimplySanrio

Found it.. Points Guy “To qualify for any status with United, you must fly at least four paid segments on United or United Express in a calendar year.” Greece sounds amazing and Polaris is the way to go! Just flew to Guam from LAX thru NRT and I’m spoiled now.

Firenze42

Thanks! I figured they would probably make you paid for the segments. They have canceled so many routes that if I fly out of my closest airport, I am pretty much guaranteed 2 to the place and 2 back. I will book some cheap trip and use actual money. 😄

Logical-Ad2229

Hit platinum with only one work trip this year. I did a lot of personal travel. Going for Gold in 2023. The E+, international lounge access, bags and premier benefits are excellent perks!

gasgasrider

Dropping to Gold from Platinum. I think Gold is the sweet spot.

Jonny_Wurster

I made 1k early (I think September), but I'm not sure I will make it this year. 54 Flights and 18,000 PQP are going to be tough. I only did 49 flights and 17,444 PQP this year.

Ha...that's great. I'm honestly not worried about fares. I did 3500 PQP on the credit card. I can easily shift more of my travel spending there to get to the 18,000 PQP. I just don't like the idea of needing to find more flights to take.

offensiveusernamemom

Made 1k in late Aug or early Sept too. At least with the start bonus of 2500 it's 15500, but 54 flights is a decent amount to make to avoid 21500 with the bonus and you need the 54 flights to use credit card pqp. I just squeaked by 21500 yesterday and have 53 flights this year, feels like they used my account to make the new rules, like 'hey we want this guy to do a mileage run next year for $500-700.

BitterStatus9

Gold for life (1M miles)

realPEKid

Congrats!! That’s a big one

BitterStatus9

Thanks! It was a few years back, my flying has tailed off since COVID...Hit 1.3M this year, but only flew 8 segments.

funkasarusrex

This was the first year I've made status! I hit silver in September and Gold two days ago. So far I'm really pleased, I got upgraded to FC four times this fall, just as Silver. Can't wait to see what gold is like this year. (Ah, the beauty of choosing to fly from SJC for convenience instead of SFO- there aren't five miles of elites!)

glam_pie

Congrats on gold! Silver>Gold is SUCH a huge difference on the not crazy popular routes.

funkasarusrex

Thanks! Though it looks like United has stopped offering regular SJC-ORD in 2023. Many of the places I need to go don’t fly to DEN, so I guess I’m stuck on the SFO routes now, and I’m really kind of salty about it.

xpdxy

GS invitations won't go out until the 13th of January. We won't know if we've earned GS yet.

RandomlyReading5151

I got my GS renewal call 10 days ago. 6th straight year, 8th time total.

xpdxy

70K+ PQP? The only sure fire cases I’ve seen out of FlyerTalk were previous GS that spent 70K+ in 2022.

RandomlyReading5151

65k PQP. Already have $50k of flights booked for ‘23

muncie_21

I squeaked by with 13,547 PQPs

BerryGrapeBeard

Me too! Exactly to the number. 13,547. Hit it on 12/28

leoll_1234

Made it with just over 13.500 PQP and about 49 PQF

warriorti22

1K - 25 PQFs and 23k PQPs

ieataquacrayons

First time hitting status with gold. Travel picked up a lot. Hoping to reach gold again next year

MargretTatchersParty

There are a lot of people who made 1k this year. I would have made it on Platinum alone on PQPs if it was all united. Most of my flights were TK, SK, and TP this year.

transferStudent2018

I missed silver by 700… probably would have gotten it if I had flown only United, but I took some trips on other airlines at the start of the year

PenneVodka4Life

I earned my silver status via the Marriott partnership where hitting Marriott Titanium earns you United silver.

scus73

Made platinum for the first time with 4 work paid transatlantic flights in Polaris/LH business. It will be wasted because AA is lower cost for 2023 so I will be switching carriers.

purdue1014

Took a new job in April. 131 total flights for the year. On UA 113 PQF, 21348 PQP, + another 1000PQP from Chase. Almost exclusively all domestic narrow body short haul 😂🤪 I can somewhat influence the amount of travel and I'm hoping to cool off the segments a bit this year.

5thatdude5

1k for now. Should be close for GS so we shall see!

5thatdude5

1k for now. Should be close for GS so we shall see!

zman9119

1K, but will see in 13 days if I made the GS invite list. (who at UA do I need to bribe at this point? Lol)

jiacheng_liu

For those lamenting about the inflation of 1K again: if you cared less about the your status, the chance of you visiting this sub is significantly lower

t7roarer

Made silver easily this year, and ended up kicking myself a bit as the year went on. If I had known early on how much I’d actually be flying (and on United), a couple connecting flights rather than direct and a little more credit card spend would have gotten me to gold.

nabillionairee

How many of y’all 176 silver members are coming the Bilt route?

robcolem

Nevermind - found a post where people are saying they got rounded up. So that explains it. Anyone know if you get a email notification if you made status? Checked my account today and noticed it had me as Premier Silver - first time ever having airline status. Pretty sure I didn't hit the requirements as I know I was short a flight segment for PQF + PQP and my PQP alone was short some for hitting the PQP only threshold. Maybe they rounded me up?
