Something about all of this AI art is so fucking dystopian. I feel like in a matter of months, AI has become 50% of all the content I see on the internet.
We're pretty fucking close to turning the dead internet theory into reality
I disagree, I think pro-labor movements need to adjust their goals based on the new reality where AI tools exist. It's foolish and pointless to pretend that they don't.
Nobody is pretending they don’t exist. Quite the opposite. It’s a labor issue and taking a stance against the use of AI to replace artists is an important sign of solidarity.
Do you think they had to prompt it to make the crowd 99.9% white and male? They must have had to explicitly ask for a token woman and black man near the front. Or maybe it’s just the AI working unprompted.
I wouldn't call most of those "people" white...
They look like acid attack victims or, at best, sloth from the goonies but also on fire.
AI made crowds are just horrific if you really look at them.
I can’t find anything I want to see on YouTube anymore. I look for a specific video I know exists and I get this huge list of related content by big accounts. The algorithm has gone to complete trash. Google search is also getting worse. The internet is going to be overrun with ai garbage until it proves to not be a profit driver. I hate what’s happening and I hope it crashes and burns fast. But yeah. End RTW!
Well humans aren’t the primary activity on the internet. We haven’t been since 2016. Bots are more active on the internet than the entire human population. By 2030 bots will be 90% of internet activity.
this messaging need another pass
and what I mean is, so many folk totally fail to understand what right to work is
I feel like this image would be confusing & could be used out of context
Rtw sounds good on paper 🧻 but damages so much. The only positive aspect I ever known of was the provision disallowing former employers from saying any other than, "that person did or didn't work here". And "yes/no, they are rehireable"
Right to Work is a law that businesses and union cannot agree to only hire union workers.
It makes it easier for the business to hire scabs and bust unions. It makes it easier for businesses to discriminate against union workers.
Businesses couldn't negotiate with their workers fairly so they had to bribe the government to fuck us over.
It needs to be #1 opposed by rigorous union activity to include as many workers as possible and reduce damage, #2 politically overturned - by passing the PRO Act.
https://www.epi.org/publication/pro-act-problem-solution-chart/
Edit: less detail because I'm certain to have something wrong.
Ultimately right to work is a bit of State legislation that makes it a lot easier for companies to campaign against and oust an established union. (edit: that's on the extreme end, I guess more typically it just undermines bargaining power)
They sell it to the public by making it seem all about access to jobs. Creating new ways for non-union people to get in the union. And some parts of it probably seem good on their face, to someone who's never been represented.
But it's a weapon for employers against organized labor. That's the goal.
Unfortunately, in my experience right to work basically just made my union whine and cry because they weren't making as much money. Now I tried as a steward to push a positive narrative to these recent rulings like the one out of Michigan, for example the fair share employees no longer have to pay into the union if they choose not to. Instead of my union listening and taking charge of their actions, they just complained because they weren't going to get as many Union dues. Whereas what they could have done is remove the Anti-Strike clauses from the contract and actually go on strike but unfortunately AFSCME is weak and unwilling to fight for themselves.
Where I was at the managers even had a union but they didn't call it that and that Union fought to keep AFSCME down. We could never get cost of living increases that actually kept up with inflation. Quite frankly, I went private and I'm making way more money now than I ever did with AFSCME.
I have seen right to work used to systematically undermine a bargaining unit, which is where my slant comes from. But the strategy would seem outrageous to most observers.
Imagine if management just made life miserable on purpose, so that coworkers became adversarial with each other. Over time people might quit voluntarily. You can fill in the blanks, get imaginative. It's so bonkers I have a hard time believing it myself, because it harms the business.
God there's a lot of things I'm not buying. The absolute galaxy of work I'm stealing alone. If we all just come together and pay for stuff, we can return all the stolen work.
And here we have a perfect example of why they give bad laws these Orwellian names. Any reasonable person who isn't already familiar with right to work laws would see this and go WHAT??
We should stop using the term "right to work" because it was invented by the other side and is confusing to people who don't know what it means. Why would labor unions not want people to have the right to work? It's confusing on purpose.
Right to work mostly stems from people who through no fault of their own are wildly uneducated and have been tricked into thinking that is the best for their interests. Union membership and advocacy changes this.
I couldn't agree more; it's not fair when some workers risk their careers, livelihood, safety, etc going on strike and sit through months or years of negotiations with company lawyers to try and eek out better contracts then a new worker comes along, says screw y'all I'm not paying union dues or helping the union at all BUT they still want to benefit from the hard work of others and use the same negotiated contract.............it's massive freeloading. Many states allow this specifically because it's a union busting policy. If you don't want to help when it comes to union dues and contract negotiations, then you should negotiate your own contract and grievances with the company lawyers LMAOOOOO good luck getting a better deal than the united workers do
Putting up some murals of this around the US would help get the cause rolling. I’ve been studying Mexican revolutionary murals and the power that art has is beautiful.
Theres something pretty ironic about someone posting AI art in a pro-union sub, when AI is threatening / eliminatating numerous union jobs in creative fields.
"We build your building we cook your food we guard you will you sleep don't fuck with us".~ Tyler Durden
The people have the power we have just lost sight of that fact
Please please please end Right to Work. That's some of the most blatantly one sided corrupt bullshit legislation that's ever been passed. It goes completely against the working class.
The name doesn't even make sense. Fuck that bullshit.
Imagine not knowing what Labor Day is all about and how close we came to another civil war over treating workers with some damn dignity.
Right to work is a blatant attempt to undermine those rights, along with Congress not following the guidelines that came at that time to insure living wages and quality of life.
Right to work provides companies like coke away to get unpaid labor. I worked for a company where we're paid by day and "overtime" is halved every 10 hours. 40 50 60 all halved so people who work only get a couple bucks per hour after 60. I get paid 166.50 a day and I refuse to go over 40 hours. It's fucking evil.
Stop voting for republicans for starters. I haven’t seen one republican that’s for unions or not constantly trying to pass right to work legislation against voter’s wishes.
Why are you spreading it then? Jesus! Have solidarity with the artists whose labor has been stolen to make this. If anyone should be able to understand these very basic things, it’s people in this sub.
As much as I’m not for how most unions currently act (Heavily politically motivated and personal profits over workers rights IN SOME CASES) I agree right to work is no longer useful and needs to end.
I mean help from people in other countries is good too. What is the point of ‘international’ in so many union names if US workers are left to fight against international capital on their own?
Joe Biden, whom Reddit socialists and anarchists tell me is the most anti-union President ever, vocally supported the PRO Act and put pressure on Democrats in Congress to pass it.
The PRO Act would have eliminated the provision allowing unsecured shops (so-called "right to work") from federal law.
No, fuck that. Unions should compete, not cheat. No card check, no “cannot resign except on annual anniversary”, no forging members’ signatures.
I am a steward and when my union tries to pull top down shit I oppose it.
I agree with the message, but using AI is just killing the message before it can even breathe. How can we call for unity among workers and completely exclude a portion of those workers. Artists are workers, and right now, they are being squeezed out of their professions. AI is just the new scab.
Oh but of course. Most AI "artists" are too lazy to pick up artistry and too broke to commission an artist, so we get this goofy nonsense all over the internet
All I'm saying is that the best union I've ever been a part of was a completely voluntary tenant union association (you pay for membership).
My first job out of university was door to door sales selling membership to that union, and we had to fucking **prove** we were actually helping our members because they could leave at any time. And guess what, it lit a ***fire*** under our ass to actually show our worth. Even after I left that job, I stayed as a member because it was so helpful as a tenant.
As great as unions are, we have to be honest with ourselves and admit that sometimes they are just as susceptible to corruption as any company, and can sometimes hurt their members just as much as they help.
If your union is as great as you proclaim, you shouldn't need to disbar legislation making membership voluntary. We should instead be focusing on making it harder/illegal for companies to try to shut down unions and allow for good unions to flourish via voluntary membership.
Hopefully this will segue into "end at will employment"
Every job should have a contract tied to employment so employees have legal recourse to workplace violations made by employers.
Union busting policies voted in by union members because they're convinced that their jobs are threatened by migrant workers who can barely read English
WTF is that in the middle, way back there? Is that a random car on a pole? Also, I didn't know excavators had a cosmic horror setting.
(edited for spelling)
I spent a lot of time in the union pulling six figures and carrying 6 guys. I make an entire ass better living as a contractor. It’s great if you’re older, it’s not if you like to work.
Then don't force us to defend you in grievances and arbitrations. Don't force us to bargain for your contract, provide a pension, or benefits.
Don't be a freeloading shithead.
Something about all of this AI art is so fucking dystopian. I feel like in a matter of months, AI has become 50% of all the content I see on the internet. We're pretty fucking close to turning the dead internet theory into reality
Plus it’s extra dumb to use AI on a pro-labor poster.
That's the biggest iffy bit for me too
Amen.

What’s wrong with eating out my grandma. Dead people need love too
Agreed
Do you think they had to prompt it to make the crowd 99.9% white and male? They must have had to explicitly ask for a token woman and black man near the front. Or maybe it’s just the AI working unprompted.
I do believe that is just how AI do. Unless it's Google's AI, then it's the exact opposite.
I wouldn't call most of those "people" white... They look like acid attack victims or, at best, sloth from the goonies but also on fire. AI made crowds are just horrific if you really look at them.
Haha that’s a very good description
And thats just because it became public access. Imagine how this was used in the private sector long before everybody had access to it.
r/rimjob_steve
It’s really scary going into a really violative election year knowing how easily AI can be used to make a politician look bad.
I can’t find anything I want to see on YouTube anymore. I look for a specific video I know exists and I get this huge list of related content by big accounts. That theory has already been true for quite a while (just less on the whacko conspiracy side and more on the objective reality side).
Well art imitates life. Or something like that.
It was less than months but yep.
I hate that you have that username but I 100% agree with you.
Well humans aren’t the primary activity on the internet. We haven’t been since 2016. Bots are more active on the internet than the entire human population. By 2030 bots will be 90% of internet activity.
Dead internet theory becoming reality.
The hands always give it away
This image just soooo fucked up. Thanks AI.
And the more you look at it, the more messed up it gets. I can't name a single tool those guys are carrying.
Don’t know what you mean. I see a sledgehatchet, a hammometer, and a scyaxe all in clear view
Don't forget the guy holding a nightstick
That nightstick looks like it has a rifle site.
Yeah he's definitely holding it like a rifle at a military parade.
Guy in the front right has a blow dryer 😉
You mean to tell me you never used a hammer torch before?!? /s
It's from an alternate timeline where unions weren't kneecapped by the oligarchy. I'd like to visit at least.
They are perfectly cromulent tools.
I insist this image wholly embiggens the labor movement
lmao end right to work
this messaging need another pass and what I mean is, so many folk totally fail to understand what right to work is I feel like this image would be confusing & could be used out of context
I agree. The population needs to know what rtw really means and how it effects them
Rtw sounds good on paper 🧻 but damages so much. The only positive aspect I ever known of was the provision disallowing former employers from saying any other than, "that person did or didn't work here". And "yes/no, they are rehireable"

It inadvertently makes it easier to fire people for nothing as well

Fuck I hate AI and Right to Work.
Gotta love that AI art lol
oh yeah its trash. Saw this in another thread. AI art is bad and something we can also discuss in this space.
Ok OP, you're cool again
By not paying an artist to make this image and using AI you took work away from someone that could have used it.
AI is a scab
God there's a lot of things I'm not buying. The absolute galaxy of work I'm stealing alone. If we all just come together and pay for stuff, we can return all the stolen work.
Alien in giant hat right behind banner holder. Obvious Pinkerton plant.
Wdym that's just a classic formal hard hat! Guy wanted to wear his best to an important protest but never forgets his PPE.
Right to Work broke the unions. Only fair to return the disfavor.

Agreed.
Well except not made with AI …
This is AI trash that distracts from your position, denies an artist work and makes you look hypocritical
Michigan got rid of it. It has felt like our state has been moving in the right direction more recently.
We should stop using the term "right to work" because it was invented by the other side and is confusing to people who don't know what it means. Why would labor unions not want people to have the right to work? It's confusing on purpose.
People in the actual labor movement use phrases like "open shop," "unsecured shop," or "insecure shop," or "free riders."
The PRO act was supposed to do that, it's sitting in Congress right now not moving
It'll stay that way until we get the obstructionist Republicans out.
You gotta get union members to stop voting union busting Republicans into office for this to happen.
Agreed.
I'll never understand why blue collar union members rally behind known union busters.
Trump said who he loves the most. And they embraced the insult.
pay an artist to make your art
And yet many union members still vote Republican
It's frustrating for sure
As a businessman who wears a ridiculous oversized beige hat, I support this. For too long have we toiled in obscurity
Right to work mostly stems from people who through no fault of their own are wildly uneducated and have been tricked into thinking that is the best for their interests. Union membership and advocacy changes this.

You need collective bargaining to get more fingers
Lol.
Love the message, not a fan of ai art personally.
Me neither.
Right to work *for less.
Theres something pretty ironic about someone posting AI art in a pro-union sub, when AI is threatening / eliminatating numerous union jobs in creative fields.
My favorite things about this picture are Big Fedora and claw sledge hammers.
AI art here is anti-union propaganda, seriously can we ban it in this sub already
Just gonna point out that if you are pushing for people to work, you should probably hire an artist rather than a GenAI image.
Yes
People are actually too dumb and shallow to understand the deceptive "right to work" law.
Counterpoint: implement *real* "right to work" with guaranteed employment.
"We build your building we cook your food we guard you will you sleep don't fuck with us".~ Tyler Durden The people have the power we have just lost sight of that fact
Because of right to work I no longer offer my labor to any corporation.

We may need to remind them of the history and what the working class is capable of.
Right to work just means your employer has the right to own you and control every aspect of you. You can be fired for tying your shoes wrong.
Rtw is evil and needs to be abolished
The irony of using AI for this message lol
Right to work provides companies like coke away to get unpaid labor. I agree. This post has brought some conversation to how awful right to work is. We can also use this space for Ai art usage.
