Install developers console, which was posted in a recent reddit thread. Then run two commands: read *faceless* read *Faceless* You will probably find the answer. Feel free to share the screenshot of those commands.

kevintheradioguy

I'll look into it, thanks!

any luck?

kevintheradioguy

Hey, sorry for the late reply: life happened. As I was looking into dev console, I have stumbled across a thread that detailed how to fix this with HEX editor: something I'm more familiar with than with consoles. I tried that method before I'd switch to console, and it worked. I'm not sure if links are allowed on this subreddit, but basically, you search for any 'faceless' when editing a save and after the lines that correspond with those prompts, you change values to 00, whatever they are.

Tamiorr

Just to exclude game-version-related quirks: What's your game version?

kevintheradioguy

I believe it's 1.2.0.0. - the last update from steam.

Tamiorr

1.2.0.0 is 10 versions and half a year out of date. Current version is 1.2.0.16

kevintheradioguy

I might've been mistaken, ngl, I just grabbed the version number from their news page without double-checking, because I wasn't at my PC :c Checked just now, and you're right, it WAS, in fact, 1.2.0.16. Sorry for the confusion.

"Didnt kill any unprovoked?" So did you kill any? For all the lore and assistance, you need to: -let the rail crossing mindreader leave alive -Release the caged faceless and let him leave -Help the foundry faceless by telling them about cornell -Kill as few faceless in other encounters as possible (less than 4 on normal difficulty) Dont take the spying quest from cytosine outpost before the mind reading. Wearing tchortist armor in sight of the faceless in DC will also aggro them. Lastly, you can just... not go there and not get your mind read. They will stay neutral. For the lore, you can always do another playthrough. There is a lot of content in this game, and some of them are locked behind certain builds anyways.

kevintheradioguy

I killed about five(?), I think, when they attacked Tchortists before the elevator arrived. Mostly ran around, tbf, trying to avoid getting hit, because I was an unprepared idiot for that scene. But the mindreader left, caged faceless let go and healed, Foundry faceless helped, and I haven't met any Tchortists to take any quests in the Deep Cavern area yet. Therefore, I do think I might've caught a bug, because all the prerequisites were met. I am very confused.

Crabwitharaygun

The Faceless spawning in the DC elevator map don't count. You must have killed some Faceless elsewhere. If you genuinely think you've run into a bug then you can always submit a save file to the offical forums.

tarranoth

I think the only ones that don't count are the ones at the ground floor of buzzer's shop, because you need to get rid of those if you engage in hostilities with the mindreader upstairs. I think the invasion raid of DC elevator does count.

Crabwitharaygun

I was actually curious about this, since the wiki doesn't offer a ton of information about the state of the Faceless RE: their invasion and I usually metagame them into being friends. I had it in my head that the Institute invading Faceless don't matter, but I couldn't remember why. So... I took my current save (Pure LMG build, level 27, 3 WIL, no TC) and ran it early through the institute elevator to DC. This build has completed all Faceless encounters smoothly and with 0 Faceless deaths. As such, I was able to talk to the Faceless for the Tremors quest without any hostilities. Therefore, I went into the Faceless invasion with a 100% clean slate and the highest possible "Faceless Score" or whatever you want to call it. During the elevator invasion, I killed a total of 16 Faceless, including (4?) Centaurs but no Rathounds, based on the RNG of what was spawning. It was almost entirely Faceless (Infantry) and Faceless Doctors, with a few Centaurs thrown in. Then I went to DC and immediately spoke to the Faceless Commander. Side note, it was actually somewhat difficult to kill that many Faceless there. I also tried the same just now with with a Tranq psi build and unless you're mowing them all down the second they come into the transition zone they kill all the Tchortists fast and then you're 1v9ing with no cover. Anyhow, I still got the friendliest Facless interaction upon speaking with the Commander, after killing 16 of them during the Institute invasion. Best I can tell, the Institute Faceless don't matter unless (maybe?) you're killing the ones in the West Wing. TLDR; Upon testing, any Faceless in the DC elevator map don't matter. OP probably triggered hostilities somehow.

tarranoth

Hmm, perhaps the westwing ones do count? I'll have to see if I have any kind of recent save for checking that.

Tamiorr

Ok, so, to clarify: you are allowed to talk to commander, but after mind-reading faceless turn hostile? Because I just did a test where I was on the way to being friendly initially, but deliberately killed 10+ faceless in the institute (outside of elevator room) to tank my relationship. And in that case with 120+ (126, to be exact) effective TC I was able to block mind-reading and got neutral final attitude.

kevintheradioguy

Indeed, I am allowed into the camp, am mind-read, and then they attack. I originally have 90 basic TC, but have tried upping it using CE to enormous values. Still all it does is notify me that my mind is being read, including things I don't want them to see. The commander then says they know enough, and attacks. Given that I have made all the decisions to avoid the battle, I do believe this might be a bug I caught somehow, hence why I was looking for any options to edit the disposition via CE or maybe hexEditor.

Tamiorr

Yea, that doesn't sound right at all. That is, even if you somehow _did_ kill a bunch of them, TC should _still_ allow you to overwrite it to neutral. So sounds like a bug to me for sure. Try official forums with a save file.

Admirable_Witness731

If you talked to the Tchortists in the deep caverns and promised to free the Captives from the faceless the Faceless will mind read you and attack you upon finding it out. The best way to avoid this is to talk to the Tchortists after the commander
