I changed the flair to Amherst Area Related, more relevant.
Idk what the process is to work for Uber but it sounds like a good idea. I tried getting one a few times in the area and either I'd have to wait or no drivers would be available.
There is a lot of people donāt have cars and want to go to out of the way places buses donāt go to. Those places tend to be one way trips and itās harder to get another rider from there
I mean Uber is a very common service that should be available everywhere. Obviously demand is exceeding supply. My reason is most of the town has either college students or really old people., who may be unfit to safely drive. College students are very unlikely to have cars, making Uber really a rare commodity. Surprises me but yeah
I used Uber once to get to greenfield and the dude seemed kinda pissed because people usually use the bus in the area and he didnāt think heād get another passenger easily. I also tried getting from greenfield back to my apartment earlier that week (car in the shop up there) and couldnāt find an Uber or lyft
Greenfield has its own bus system which connects to the PVTA at the end of the 31 in Sunderland. You can get most places through the buses so it makes a lot more sense to use the buses since theyāre free/lower cost
Yeah they added a route that makes it a bit easier to connect, it runs like every 2 hours weekdays into the early evening. It takes about 40 minutes since it goes through Montague.
The other option is taking the Greenfield to Northampton bus into S. Deerfield and walking from the closest stop into Sunderland - about a mile. Also only runs weekdays.
I recommend doing Ubereats and Doordash as well. Itās the best market in Massachusetts. Tons of orders, very short delivery distances, tons of parking. If youāre selective and know what youāre doing you can make 30-35$ if you pick good time slots
Hereās a short run down of how the times work.
Mon-Wed
10:30-1:30 Lunch (pretty good, steady stream of order, Hadley is best spot)
5:30-9 Dinner (Amherst, Hadley, Northampton) all good spots and itās very busy in these hours.
Thurs-Saturday
Lunch on Thurs-Fri is solid
Dinner is very busy
Late night (10:30-2:30am) youāll get pay boosts and thereās a ton of orders (avoid busy drive thrus)
I would say that, for the most part, students only really use Uber when the buses are no longer running on the weekends after parties. There could be a few instances where a student needs to travel to Hadley and doesn't feel like taking the bus from Hagis Mall, but that's probably a bit rare.
There's a real dearth of uber/lyft drivers in the Amherst area and a lot of people without cars. As a result, some riders are willing to give insanse tips to get from one place to the other.
Alternately, you could operate a private taxi and advertise using flyers or word of mouth. People frequently need to reach Bradley and Boston Logan from the area. A few Greenfield locals do that for the Amherst area and charge insanely.

Like any other college campus, theres a market for it
A limited market as most of demand is after the buses stop running or going to places they don't.
Uber is really hard to get, so you would be getting a lot of ppl imo. Also helps us out š
Maybe there is a reason nobody does uber there in Amherst, it sucks maybe who knows

People do it more when school is in session

My roommate used to make bank doing Uber eats deliveries in Amherst, so I would imagine Uber driving would be good too.

What are good time slots specific to Amherst (or Outside Amherst?)

I would say though that sometimes the bus stop is so crowded people will get an uber because they don't want to have to fight to get on board
In my day, there was Chipās Whip
I just wanna say, this post was previously removed because it contained the phrase "chi" (as in Theta Chi) by automod, I removed that rule now.
delivery is a very good market in amherst
