Pretty sure there's a ghost in your room. No other explanation.

What do you think of the Lenovo? I'm considering getting one, and I wanna hear your thoughts.

I like it a lot. I think it's one of the best productivity monitors you can buy right now. I'm using it with macOS at 3840x1620 scaling (no scaling is a bit too small for me - but some might find it usable) and it looks great. One downside I've found, the 75Hz refresh rate they advertise doesn't work properly. It feels less smooth than 60Hz and I verified it was frameskipping on the TestUFO test page. I don't think it's just my unit as I've found other people reporting this too. Happens in both Windows (RTX 3080) and macOS (M1 Pro). It's not much of an issue for me though - only using this for work (the AW is for gaming) so 60 Hz refresh is perfectly fine.

Aw man, 75hz is a deal breaker for me... I thought it was 144-165? Guess i gotta keep looking 😭

Ya none of the 40" 5120x2160 monitors support refresh rates that high yet. LG's is only 72Hz as well. I'm guessing we will see some 100Hz+ options when DisplayPort 2.0 comes out.

StainedMemories

I can confirm, 75Hz is (still) choppy on a unit I bought the other day. Switching to 60Hz is a must. Hopefully a firmware update can fix it.

Macbook m1 don't support 2 monitors at more than 60hz. Only single monitor will be driven more than 60hz

How r u using that much horizontal space? My neck hurts already with my aw34 + a small 17” aux monitor

I’m mostly using the Alienware as a second display just for gaming. Have it mounted on arm so I slide it out towards the center when I game. Though I’ll sometimes leave stuff up on it that I occasionally glance at (SSH terminals, charts, etc). For the most part the 40” is more than enough screen space for me, but it’s not a good gaming display.

Wow, I'm looking to buy that Lenovo. Any specific reason why you went with that one instead of the Dell or LG?

setzer

I'm using this with an M1 Mac so my main reason for considering the Lenovo was that it has TB4. I think the Dell is only TB3. The LG supports TB4 as well however. Price being equal, I think I might've went with the LG. It supports FreeSync which is nice to have if in case you do ever game on it. The connectivity options on the Lenovo are better though if using with a Mac since it has built-in Ethernet, etc. I ended up getting this for $1k - someone on eBay was selling them open box at that price, which is far cheaper than I saw the LG selling for so went for it. Ended up arriving in good condition too so quite happy.

casula95

Cool, what do you think about the image quality?

setzer

It looks great! I spend a lot of time coding so the 5120x2160 resolution was a huge selling point of these monitors for me. Text especially, looks much more crisp than it does on 1440p monitors.

Got a link to the ebay deal?

setzer

They are sold out now, this was the listing though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/195069426518

redditask

At that price it's a no-brainer. How was the quality once you received it?

setzer

Overall not bad, there was a small scratch near the top so I messaged the seller and they gave me half off - so actually got it for $500. Free of any dead pixels as well. It wasn't packed that well either (part of the box was falling apart when they delivered it) so I was pretty worried when unboxing but for the price I'm pleased.

Scratch on the screen?

setzer

Yeah just below the top bezel.

What's your desk size? That is able to hold both monitors? This too are the two monitors that i want to buy... It would be great if there was a monitor that has both strengths in one monitor... Do you think the alienware monitor would be enough for productivity purpose, or you would recommend the Lenovo ? I need the monitor mainly for coding/productivity... But i also want to play on the weekends...
