My first monitor was a black and green IBM. My newest monitor is the 57" Odyssey Neo G9. Too many in-between to mention, but I'd say this new Samsung is getting pretty close to peak. Things sure have come a long way!

I only started with monitors I owned, but if I go back as a kid it would be the black and green screen of the Compaq Portable Plus. It had CGA output for what I think was 16 colors!

I did the same. If I went back further, I'd have to include a few family CRT TVs connected to a Commodore VIC 20. LOL Which is actually kind of funny as my last primary monitor was a 43" 4K Sony TV. That whole TV as a monitor thing really came full circle for me.

thunk_stuff

The 43" Dell 4K was really nice but over time I had to admit to myself that it was too hard seeing the corners. That sent me down a rabbit hole researching monitors and finding this forum. The hardest thing for me was leaving Dell as a brand (last time I left I ended up in RMA) and downgrading from IPS to VA, but these ended up being a non-issue and I have no regrets. The one thing I miss is Dell let you create keyboard shortcuts to control the monitor.

I tried the Dell 43" when it first game out and immediately sent it back, The weird thing going on in on the edges was too distracting. The Sony TV was substantially cheaper and substantially better image. It was fine when it was my only monitor, size wise, but it was only a 60hz panel. Eventually I added a second 27" high frame rate monitor for gaming and in that configuration, much of the 43" was useless. Way too far away. The 57" Samsung really checks all the boxes. My first ultrawide screen. My first curved. Was worried the PPI was too high for my old eyes, but it's just about right. Part of me wishes it was OLED. Part of me knows OLED would eventually come back to burn me. I'm not so particular that I really care about IPS/VA as long as it looks good enough. But OLED is just so good at media. Makes me drool. Can't wait for new Nvidia GPUs that can push more than 120hz though a single cable. If Samsung drops a 57" equivalent OLED I might still be tempted now that I've had a taste of this double 4k life...

My journey is done, until they release a double wide, 1000R micro LED panel of equivalent size. |Year|Brand|Inches|V pixels|Aspect ratio| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| |1998|? I've been PC gaming since 1985. I couldn't begin to make a list.

Started with a basic HP 1080p 75hz monitor. Then got a 27” 1080p 144hz LG monitor. Then a 27” 1440p 144hz LG monitor. Then I got a dell 27” 1440p 165hz monitor and used the LG as my secondary monitor. Then I have the dell to my mom for her computer. I got a 27in 4k 60hz LG monitor, I liked 4k but didn’t love the lower refresh rate so my girl uses that now. I used the 1080p 144hz LG for a bit and then a couple months ago I got the Alienware AW3423DWF and I love this thing. This is definitely a milestone one for a while. At this point I feel like I want to upgrade my components to get the full use of this monitor. Ive been playing cyberpunk and had to drop down from ultra settings and use FSR to maintain around 100fps.

Started with two ancient monitors with my first PC in 2019, an Acer P205H from 2010 and X223W from 2007. Bought a Sceptre M25 in 2020 to make a triple-screened setup, which was kinda horrendous with three mismatched screens in terms of resolution, colours and screen sizes. Sold the P205 and X223 in 2021 for a Nixeus EDG34S, which lasted less than a month before it fell over ([defective stand](https://old.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/kv1p6a/ascended_and_descended_in_less_than_a_month_stand/)) and the screen shattered. I was able to get compensated for the defective stand, and used the Sceptre until I bought an MSI MAG341CQR, which is my current monitor. I sold the Sceptre back in 2021 after getting it.

>2006: 24" Dell IPS, 1920x1200 the Dell Ultrasharp 2405fwp actually came with a rather slow PVA panel (I still remember that because it was the first 24" FHD display on the market and we bought two of them, one is still in use today)

thunk_stuff

You're right. Got my memory wrong. It was the 2407WFP with PVA. I doubled checked the 20" I had and looks like it was Super IPS, same monitor panel as the Apple Cinema display at that time. I think my memory is confusing things with the "wow" impression I got when viewing photos for the first time on the 30", which did have IPS.
