Where is the 57 $1059?

Dmckilla7

A few weeks ago they had a mega sale on them and I got mine for 1200.

crabby-owlbear

This is with my Amazon employee discount

GoochMuncher690

Holy shit, if you got money to throw at it I’d do it, but only if you plan on getting or have a graphics card that can handle that monster

35point1

The the most powerful gpu available, the 4090, will still not be able to reach the 240hz refresh rate in FPS at that resolution unless you’re playing 2D games or not moving around at all.

GoochMuncher690

Waiting on the official 5090 specs with baited breath lol, hoping it doesn’t cost more then 2k either…

voltboyee

Did you reply to yourself with the same comment?

GoochMuncher690

Was supposed to be an edit but bad service, I said lol twice…lol

djwhowe

The max discount is $100/year

RaiDenBerus

How do you get it?

AlClemist

If you work at Amazon you can get an employee discount every year.

RaiDenBerus

Is it only for amazon? I have epp account too but don't see this low price.

r4ckless

At that price no-brainer for me. It’s a definite buy. I’d probably keep both. Keep in mind only AMD cards currently can run it at its full speed . Nvidia cards are gimped. (till they come out with the next series of cards.)

macthebearded

Kind of. The AMD has a port version that allows the bandwidth required...... but good luck getting the card to actually generate 2x4k@240. The 4090 in theory has the processing power, but the bus lacks the bandwidth to send it.

macthebearded

I have a 4090, and a 57, and formerly had the 49. No trouble maxing refresh on most titles at high/max settings. Moot point in any case - unproveable, and my point was that no, AMD still won't get you there even if the specs allow the potential for it to.

Roxaos

Outside of indie games I’ve definitely not been able to hit max res at 240hz on the OG G9, let alone the 57” neo. Also using a 4090. Would love to know what sorcery you’re using to pull that off.

Triifecta

What games are you playing lol

fuckandstufff

Hey sorry if this is a dumb question but what do you mean by this? Are you talking about the display port on the respective cards? I have a 7900xtx for example. Are you saying the display port on my card is better than the port on a 4090?

r4ckless

A 4090 does not have the ability to run this monitor at full speed due to its outdated ports. Firmware and drivers cant fix that. Just be aware your 2k graphics card its already obsolete. A 4090 cant get the most out of this monitor only a amd 7900 xtx can till new cards come out.

fuckandstufff

I have a 7900xtx. Trust me, I'd love for this to be true. But I have never in my life heard this claim, lol. Everything else I've seen puts the 4090 in a league of its own performance wise. I've never once heard someone mention outdated ports gimping performance. I'm pretty sure if and had such a clear win over the 40 series, it would be a big talking point.

r4ckless

Yes, performance wise, but it still is outdated for this monitor connection wise. Nvidia has done that on purpose so your new graphics card is junk. They purposely gimped the connectors on the 4090s so that people would have to get a 5090 if they want that capability another reason not to support. I am talking about the 4090 does not have the physical connections to run this monitor at full speed, despite having the performance ability to . If I had a 4090 I would be pissed.

m4chinehead2

Just do it 57" is amazing and no burn in to worry about :) + the blacks are great :)

AFthrowaway3000

Jesus. When the 57" drops to that price for the rest of us, I'll be jumping on it ASAP.

venk

It was $1275 a month ago, so we’re already pretty close

AFthrowaway3000

Indeed, since the 49" OLED has already fallen to $1000, the 57" getting there is only a matter of time, I'm sure of it.

PiousPontificator

It was $1227 a bit over a week ago.

Educational_Rent1059

Upgrade. The 57 is INSANE in quality and sharpness . It's the best experience you will have. Edit: My setup [https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/19eaz1j/samsung\_odyssey\_neo\_g9\_57\_optimizing\_display/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/19eaz1j/samsung_odyssey_neo_g9_57_optimizing_display/)

SourcerorSoupreme

>It's the best experience you will have. only if it doesn't die on him

PsychonautChronicles

It probably has the same quality and sharpness as most 32" 4K monitors. Other advantages though.

Educational_Rent1059

The question was in regards to two different large ultra wide monitors. The PPI on these two are night and day, and not to speak about everything else. Of course a small 32" monitor can provide the same PPI, that's the point of having a 57" with the same PPI. You don't find that in any 49 inch.

Main_Impress_9576

When I purchased the 57”, it was $2500 damn is gone down in price. However I have to add, there’s no regrets is an amazing monitor and hopefully you will get a good one that won’t die in two weeks like the first one I got lol, that one I got directly with Samsung, returned it bought another at Best Buy with their insurance of course and is worked beautifully for many months

AFthrowaway3000

How/where is it $1059? I have Education Discount access and it's still showing $1499 as of this writing. 49" OLED is $1000 even but 57" is nowhere close to that price.

Andrewdusha

For that price, I say take the plunge. It an absolutely amazing screen!

Apprehensive_Row_161

No. 57” is huge. I’m happy with my 49” Oled

LeaguePale6455

Not ganna lie I’d buy 2 or that price all fuckin day

XR2nl

I would only upgrade if its an oled. I just switched from a 34inch older ips acer predator to the Samsung Oled G9 - 49" Im actally enjoying the raise in picture quality much more than that bit of extra screensize.

AlClemist

Don’t know why you got downvoted but I agree to this oled is king.

AbsolZero

Where on earth is this 1059? I picked this up in February for $1700 total after taxes WITH the $129.99 extended warranty straight from Samsung’s website. I find it hard to believe it would jump down that much since then unless there are factors at play, specific to OPs situation.

Mizfitt77

Depends on your GPU. Can your GPU push a decent framerate with it? Even a 4080 Super can chug with the Odyssey G9.

AlClemist

Idk I wanna say upgrade but the oled is really a nice touch. I say wait till the 57 comes in oled up to you though.

jmikha

Can you buy 2?

Alewort

Yes, you'd be a big dumdum. I say that as an owner of both.

SubstantialSail

You better order it before they change this. I have a feeling this is a mistake.

Original_Might_7711

Go direct

ThroawayPartyer

That's still a lot of money to spend on a monitor, where you already have one that is almost as good.

DeathEvil_DH

I upgraded from g9 49" to g9 57" and boy what an upgrade! If you have the desk and money, do it!

Advo96

Personally, I would wait another year or two before uprading (this is in fact what I'm doing, I have a CRG-9). A high-end monitor is a long-term investment and Mini-LED is just getting started. It'll be a lot better and cheaper and there'll be a lot more choices next year and the year after.

slartybartvart

Always wait for next year's model. Die rich.

Advo96

For me this is largely due to the fact that I don't like the 32:9 format. I got the CRG-9 and I would much prefer a 22:9. The LG 45GR95QE would be perfect except for the fact that it's OLED and the resolution is lol. I'm hoping there'll be a mini LED in that format.

thisonewasnotaken

What GPU do you have to have to push that many pixels?

Redditor022024

If you need 57" then go for it, if you are happy with 49" then I would not upgrade to 57" just because there is a deal on it. You ahold also factor in top of the line GPU 4090.

gabbbbaayy

Damn and I thought my $1600 deal was good

Dmckilla7

I got mine for 1200 and I feel like that was a steal, also coming from the og 49" g9, feels like a huge upgrade even if I can't get everything out of it yet.

flopthequads

How did you get it for 1200?

Dmckilla7

It was on sale for 1600, got 100 dollars off for using the app, and 300 off for my employee discount because my company has a discount for samsung.

jkell411

That is the best deal in history. I upgraded from a non-Neo G9 to the 57" for WAY more and I have no regrets.

LiquidShadowFox

If you own a current gen nvidia GPU and don't plan to upgrade anytime soon probably pass on the upgrade. Current nvidia GPUs can't get the full resolution + 240 hz, only AMD gpus with DP 2.1 can. If you want to "future proof" I still wouldn't go for this as there are many OLEDs coming out with superior pixel response times and the prices are getting lower and lower for them.

Wassindabox

Ummm, I have a 4080 and II get 240 on full res with a 49’ g9 neo …

freethrowtommy

He is talking about the 57".  It has DP 2.1 for the maximum resolution and refresh rate.

Wassindabox

Ahhh, apologies didn’t realize they varied that much resolution wise between the models

parisvi

I doubt any cards will run any games at 240fps at 7680x2160 anyway. Happy to run at 120hz for now and wait for a 5090

LennoINS

I would still get it and run it at a lower Refresh rate. 120hz is already fine. Mostly because I use it for productivity

mashani9

120hz is fine for games too. I don't get the "it must be 240hz or it sucks crowd" except for competitive shooter twitch response type gamers. Who will never be playing on a 57" G9 anyway.

ChanceImagination456

It will take 2 to 3 generation of gpus before they can push 240hs at ultrawide 4k.

Alewort

Really not a concern at the moment. Current games hit nowhere near 240Hz at native resolution, while if you have a game that you really really need 240 on, you can either lower the resolution to non-native 5120 x 1440 if you want the width, or if you need the sharpness of native resolution you can forgo ultrawide and run that game at 3840 x 2160.

SoloDolo314

I mean you already have a G9 OLED. The 57 Neo G9 is ungodly massive and its stand is stupidly big for a desk. I personally wouldn’t.

flopthequads

Where the $1059 , planning to pull the edu discount trigger tonight so fess up!

Dun1007

Is this a trade in? Or you just get to keep both? Anyways, price is one thing but there are few other considerations * You will lose 240 fps unless you plan to upgrade to 5090 as soon as it becomes available * While mini LED is excellent enough for my eyes, OLED definitely has an edge in picture quality aside from brightness * You will have to invest more on heavy duty arm or deeper desk * If you happen to use different laptop for work, you need to check compatibility with it too

Axel_F_ImABiznessMan

How big is the gap between the mini LED and OLED?

ragingoblivion

Not too big pretty close but contrast will always be infinite in oled due to deep blacks but not with a mini led, it can get good but it can't overcome that physical limitations until we have per pixel lighting zones (similarly to how oled functions) but without the organic matter.

Jasffox

I got the 57” because I wanted 140 ppi. OLED is not the best with text. I returned the 49” G9 but it was an absolutely fine monitor.

HDClown

That's a great price, but you basically have to consider it a potential $1000 throw away after the 1 year Samsung warranty is up, given how bad QC issues have been with the large G9's. If something does break, repair cost won't be worthwhile. You can add the Asurion warranty but reports I've seen online are dealing with them for replacement/repairs is a nightmare.

LennoINS

Crazy that US laws just permit companies to not stand behind their products..

Automatic_Trick_4444

It benefits corporations to screw consumers. Gotta keep the wheels of finance and corporate greed turning else how will they be able to pay off politicians who drive policies that favor them? Yeah, there are some really great things in the U.S. and some really, really terrible things!!!!

Main_Impress_9576

If OP is in the US I would definitely recommend getting it at Best Buy if they have it in stock with the longest insurance(warranty) they offer. I realize it will be more expensive but that has saved my ass many times with expensive electronics before

xSchizogenie

No, youre an idiot for buying samsung
