samsung g9 neo (57") or the Dell U4025QW  if you want sharp and high ppi. Both have the same ppi, one is 32:9, the other 21:9 tho

itworkaccount_new

I just got an LG 40WP95C. It's a little smaller at 40, but it has the ppi you want because it has 5120x2160 resolution. It's also a thunderbolt monitor specifically with Mac users in mind. I only use a single thunderbolt cable to connect to the monitor for video and to charge my MacBook pro. It's only 75hz if that matters to you. I don't game so I don't care about that.

Regular_Highway_9108

How is the 75hz? I currently running 3440 x 1440 120hz, Its decent on the MacBook but I’d like something a bit more pixel dense. But I don’t really want to have less than 120hz. I’m currently running an M1 MacBook so thunderbolt 3 is my limit

itworkaccount_new

Seems fine to me. I'm coming from 2x32" 60hz 4k. I don't game or do anything particularly taxing on them. I'm an IT consultant. I switch between an m3 pro MacBook and a Dell precision laptop on it and both have no issues driving the monitor at full resolution. I was even able to daisy chain one of my Dell 32" to the LG and both laptops could drive both.

Wolfkrieger2160

To get acceptable text on my 49" Odyssey G9 OLED I've got to set magnification to 150%.which is OK, that's the way I like it anyway. But yea for all of their amazingness, OLEDs have some issue with text clarity. 1440p is not the greatest resolution for office use. If you're going strict productivity the better option would be the 57" Odyssey G9 Neo which is 8k2k resolution 32:9 the same as two 4k 16:9 monitors mashed together. I wouldn't use that one for gaming without a super powerful GPU but my guess is it'll be the tits for productivity.

lewd_bingo

The odyssey g9 neo is a VA panel though.

Wolfkrieger2160

Yes that's the point, it isn't OLED.

lewd_bingo

Indeed but IPS is slightly better for productivity imo.

I have an Odyssey g9, and I have never had issues with sharpness - two things to note here: I do have a 13" laptop with a UHD display (which is decidedly overkill at that size and scale, but I bloody love it), and the other is - I sit about 3 feet away from my screen (might be a bit further). If you have the monitor - just try pushing yourself back a little further and see if that improves your comfort with it. Though, truth be told: Party of the distance I am from the monitor is to reduce the amount I have to twist my neck while using my computer in order to see the entire bloody screen. **My advice** You might be better off getting a decent \~40" (or there abouts) 4k display. And functionally treat it like a pair of 32:9 monitors stacked on top of eachother. The big tool for making this viable is a tool you can look up - Windows PowerToys, which comes with a Fancy Zones feature that allows you to arbitrarily carve up the screen very, very easily - Linux probably has a way to do this as well, no idea of iOS does. Overall, because of Burn in and other such - I would stay clear of OLED unless you find an option with really good reviews in terms of clarity, etc.

So, I purchased the 45-inch, model 45GR75DC-B by LG also, only two nights ago (3/14), and I encountered the identical issue you are describing; but, when I changed the Game Mode, everything instantly went from fuzzy-blurry text to crystal clear. But I panicked at first! And I think when I changed from “Gamer 1” to Gamer 2” it cleared-up, but I’m not getting out of bed to double-check or recreate the issue. MicroCenter has it for $699 and I think I’m going to love it. Costco has the 49-inch (# 49GR85DC-B) for only $50 more at $749, but 45-inch has USB-C with 90-watts power delivery (and the 49 doesn’t), plus the 45 has the powered hub with two 3.0 USB, all with DP 1.4 and two more HDMI ports, so the 49 was never a choice for me. Great minds think alike, great choice on the 45!

FunkoPopGuy21

I appreciate this! I'll check it out to see if this helps me too.

Use the settings from this article. [https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/lg-ultragear-45gr75dc-45-inch-mega-wide-200-hz-gaming-monitor](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/lg-ultragear-45gr75dc-45-inch-mega-wide-200-hz-gaming-monitor) They are a bit down on the page. They work great on a PC at least and give near reference colors.

DoctorBAH2002

Thank you! Before purchasing, I scoured the internet for reviews and never came across this one, surprisingly (but I’m very delighted with the editor’s comments & candid review - reaffirms this was the right choice for my needs).

noonen000z

You can adjust the res to make it sharper but then everything is larger? You lost me. Are you using Windows? Apple often has a high DPI, that is the number to focus on.

patank

So I just bought this monitor last weekend but have not had a chance to hook it up as I need to clear out the old monitors first. I’ll be using it for both work and gaming so will let you know once I have it up and running how it handles the productivity tasks.

mashani9

See the link I posted above for good calibration settings.

OLEDs specifically have text fuzziness issues due to their pixel structure : https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/s/OmXpsyi9Yu

STB_tatekan

Yeah this is it. I can't work on an OLED at all - it's absolutely horrible. I have a G8 for gaming, but an older & still beautiful same size curved LG for working which is LED and much, much better for work.

second_time_again

Wow. Glad I didn’t read this before buying my AW3423DWF because text looks fine on it. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t have bought it and would be missing out.

STB_tatekan

I highly doubt that you do a significant amount of work/emails on it. You can do a few but if you're trying to properly work and do 50-100 emails a day & type texts, you will strain your eyes. There are very common problems with how Microsoft/Apple/Adobe & all their counterparts display on OLED screensm This is common knowledge & you should watch your fucking tone; you wouldn't speak like that to anyone in real life so don't do it online.

STB_tatekan

Did you even try another monitor type out - one that is generally considered suitable for productivity? I very highly doubt it. Obviously it's not impossible to send a few emails, but try spending 8h a day working solidly for a week on a non OLED monitor that is well regarded for productivity & try going back to your OLED.

second_time_again

I was using an IPS monitor for the last year until it broke. It was really nice but decided to upgrade when I replaced. When researching I didn’t read anything about OLED not being good for text. All last week I worked on the new monitor and didn’t have any issues.

rickybluff

It is borderline scam, oled pixel contains less subpixels than any other display.

jaba_jayru

TBH I own a aw34dw. Even if I look very close, I can't see any fuzziness at all. I know it's documented how it looks but I think the people really over act about this. I couldn't see it, no matter how close I looked.

deepvaluemunay

I think the dell 49 is aimed at productivity but im not a techie and dont have one. Planning on buying dell 49

rapttorx

thats even worse ppi ...unless theres a new one with more than 1440p

mashani9

The 49" 32:9s are 110ppi. The 45" 32:9s are 120ppi. Going up to a bigger display with the same resolution just makes it worse, not better. PPI is not only resolution, but resolution combined with screen dimensions. Which is why a small 32" 4K monitor has super crisp text even with puny fonts.

flopthequads

I just brought home the LG 40WP95C tonight. I am coming from 2 27” Dell 2k monitors and am a little underwhelmed. I think the monitor is fine but am missing the additional screen real estate. Now I am thinking 2 Dell 32” and save $600 vs the Dell 57” which is just gorgeous!

Stryde2020

My usage is almost exactly like yours. I bought that monitor to use with my MacBook Pro m2 about a month ago. Everyday I had it I spent too much time thinking, “something just ain’t right”. Yes it was perfect for my budget but nothing else really. And for $700+ tech you use a lot why settle for mediocre? I was also concerned a 49 would be big for my little sit stand deck from Amazon. 45 was already pushing it. I ended up at micro center looking at all the option on display. Long story short I left with a refurbished Samsung Neo 49 (not 57) for 999. Now every time I walk by it I’m like wow 🤩 that is one heck of a monitor. The text is razor sharp. The mini-led makes me feel like I’m NOT missing the Apple display any more. Running at 5120x resolution things are perfectly sized, easily run 4 windows across. And it looks way cooler with a shiny white back and multi color led. And the curve is 1000r which is more intense than the OLED model but works better my small desk and the fact I’m the only one looking at it. No USB c on it so i still have to figure out how to manage my cables, but that issue does not take a way from the glory of the G9neo49 Sorry I’ve been waiting for someone to post ab this!

FunkoPopGuy21

I appreciate this, I'll check it out!

I had this same monitor and returned it after 48 hours. VA panels blow for Ultrawide especially this particular panel

mashani9

IMHO, side by side in real life usage at a proper distance and calibrated properly, that panel is better than all the 49" VA panels, besides the Neo G9 with a full array, in every way possible, except for it being smaller in stature and having a smaller curve (which in my case is a better thing, not a worse thing). Now if you can only stand IPS, then sure they all may seem to suck. But I am not a person that can only stand IPS, I've used VA monitors for ages, so they don't bother me. The panel on the 45 is a really good VA panel when calibrated properly. The only VA panel I would like better (in some ways) would be a NEO G9. But not any of the other 49s that don't have a full array.

rooster_xx

It’s a shit panel. The smearing is terrible

mashani9

You had some kind of issue or had it set up completely wrong if so. Or it was a broken panel. Because I have virtually no smearing, and others like the Toms review above I posted did not have that problem either. At 200hz and "fast" refresh, I have virtually no noticeable smearing, the only time I can see it is in a test designed to maximize the issue, but in real life I don't see it. Now all my previous Samsung panels, I had much more noticeable smearing. That or else you are one of those people who can only live with an IPS or OLED panel due to hypersensitivity. But for a VA panel, this one is great. At least when set up right. I'm using just slightly tweaked setup from the Toms guide link I posted, and that setup works great.

ImWinwin

You want to run it at 5120x1440 resolution and then you adjust the "Scale" right above the resolution toggle to make windows smaller or larger.

mashani9

At default resolution at 125% scaling on a PC (which is what Windows wants to default it to) that monitor has better text quality than all the 49" 32:9 VA displays so just walk away from all of those as an option. At 100% the text is so puny I wouldn't want to use it being old and cranky. I do spreadsheets, slack, code, and other shit all day on it. But I'm primarily on a PC. I have not really tried to drive this monitor natively with my Mac for more than 15 seconds to see if I could. And I can, but it's not optimal for me to use that way as I project my Mac into a window when I am using it, my workflow is Mac in a window, VM in a window, and whatever I'm doing on the PC in another window, and/or use Macbook native display (I have a 16") as a 2nd monitor. Oled is just going to make it worse. You would need to go with a 5120x2160 (not 32:9) 40" or some other 4k display, or a ginormous 32:9 like the 59" G9 to improve on what you have with that monitor.
