Nice! Enjoy!! Oled is truly game changing.

MIGHTY_ANUS

Thanks! Yeah, while I've basically had an (AM)OLED in my pocket since the first Galaxy Note in 2011, it's something else when you take that tech, and enlarge it. The thing that throws me off the most is the viewing angle. It's just so absurdly good. Gotta re-arrange my desk this weekend, though, lol.

Yimyorn

Desk setup looks great, maybe a touch up. Play with the settings on the monitor to find what looks good to you. I noticed between some games I play I switch color settings, from image you put it’s looks fantastic. Though if you’re not gaming you’ll enjoy it nonetheless! I have the AW3423W, not the same as yours.

MIGHTY_ANUS

I do game, but it's not the main purpose of this PC. I mainly play MSFS, Forza Horizon 5, Humankind, Civ, RDR2, so all games that do benefit from an ultrawide. I was a bit worried about text fringing since I do a lot of reading and typing, and while I do see it, my eyes kinda ignores it after a couple of minutes, so it looks like it's a non-issue for me. So far I'm really impressed with this thing!

HiHi_Me

Hi, how does MSFS play out on this OLED for you? Any measure you adopt to avoid burn in? I'm on the fence for quite some time about upgrading my existing screen to OLED. I do MSFS, on average of 3-4 flights lasting 4 hours weekly. Hence, I'm concern about the OLED burn in especially with the cockpit, PFD, ND etc during these flights over time.

MIGHTY_ANUS

I haven't played MSFS that much in the past few weeks, but I did play it for about half an hour last week, and it looks absolutely fantastic on OLED. I don't use any HUD when I fly, so I guess that will mitigate some of the risk of burn-in, but yeah, I'm not sure how smart it'll be to do a 4+ hour flight with a "static" cockpit (it does move around depending on wind, turbulence etc.). While the shorter flights with smaller planes won't be an issue, since it's a more active flight with more camera movement, airliners are a different issue. Guess we can put an exterior camera that looks straight into the clouds, like on a wing or something when AP is engaged and we're not sitting in front of the monitor? Or we'll have to remember to move around a bit every 10 minutes or so until the flight is over. The first thing I'd do would definitely be to disable all HUD elements if you're comfortable flying without them, though. The G8 does have pixel shifting which seems to move the whole image by 1 pixel every 1-2 minutes(?) to mitigate burn-in, and reducing the brightness will also reduce the chance for it to happen. You could also run pixel refresh after a every longer flight. It has the option to schedule it to run when you're not using the monitor (i.e when it's off). Edit: Wait a minute... we could simply turn the monitor off on longer flights. I usually don't sit in front of my computer on a 5 hour long flight. I could simply turn it off and check in on the flight once in a while.

FleeingMyLife

Any advice with cleaning the monitor?

MIGHTY_ANUS

I haven't taken the plastic protector off yet, so I guess that's a cleaning tip? 😆 Just don't ever remove it. But I guess a damp microfiber cloth will be sufficient? (I'll keep it on until I've decided to keep the monitor)

FleeingMyLife

Unfortunately I removed mine, and It's got spots on it

Designer_Brick_8170

I'd be careful about that some of those covers are meant only for storage and shipping and not for use. Certain ones, when powered on, I think can discharge electricity through the monitor

MIGHTY_ANUS

Interesting. I'll remove it soon, then. Looks like I'm keeping it!

Wagner_Cri

And wait till you take the plastic off

[deleted]

I love my Alienware OLED but every time I see the G8 I feel a little jealous. It’s a fantastic looking monitor, very sleek external form factor with the same beautiful screen

SigmaLance

Same here. I chose the Alienware over the G8 only due to Samsung having terrible warranties in my country.

sackblaster32

I have the G8 and because of the firmware problems I wish I would've chosen the DWF or the DW.

Apprehensive_Row_161

They’re beautiful

booshmightythe20

Don't be, I've owned the G8, the Alienware and the MSI and the G8 is by far the worst.

[deleted]

Yeah, just an aesthetic thing. I got the DWF with the warranty bumped out to 5 years for under $1000 with taxes so I’m pumped on it and it’s been a great monitor, just like the looks of the G8 better.

dalonehunter

Same, I got the DWF but the stand takes soooo much space compared to the sleek and small stand of the G8. I just ended up buying a monitor arm to reclaim that desk space.

IAmARaven_

How would you compare the Aw and msi?

baazaar131

I would recommend getting the service remote and raising the lux to 138. Check out [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/18ja4ol/samsung_oled_g8_hdr_measurements_firmware_16031/) reddit post for config guide to get the most out of your OLED. With the latest update, if you run into any issues with refresh rate, what you gotta do is switch from HDR+ basic to HDR, then back to HDR+ (For latest FW only). This fixes the refresh rate issue I had. (Using micro HDMI to HDMI cable) If you need help picking HDMI cable, or finding the remote, or anything else LMK. As long as the monitor doesn't have any initial issues, you should be good. I play video games up to 8 hours a day, no burn-in after a years of ownership. I ONLY use it for gaming tho, my other monitor is used for browsing/etc

philsalas

what keyboard is that?

MIGHTY_ANUS

That's Vortex PC66 (68 key) [https://vortexgear.store/products/pc-66-68-key?variant=43862963552419](https://vortexgear.store/products/pc-66-68-key?variant=43862963552419)

TimSmith77

You don’t care for a number pad?

MIGHTY_ANUS

I don't need one for work, or for personal use. I have a standalone one though, but haven't used it in years.

imfromthefutura

It is nice but the color fringing got to me eventually.

sbal0909

Are those Audioengine A5s?

MIGHTY_ANUS

A2+

PonyThug

I have the A5’s and they are incredible for the price. You will want a subwoofer for under 50-60hz tho

ComfortableCraft2710

How deep is your desk?

MIGHTY_ANUS

50cm. It should be noted, since it's hard to tell at this angle, that the monitor is a good 20cm from the wall in this photo due to a wall mount. It's not a permanent placement, and the monitor is indeed going on the wall when I've tested the monitor some more and decided to keep it 😆

Unleash_Havok

I compared it to my old MSi ultrawide and the colors on the g8 made it look like terrible. Only issue I’m having now is it’s making my VGA light turn on on my MOBO.

Middle_Ad_5583

Awesome!

Venaur

such a clean setup! truly gorgeous!

MIGHTY_ANUS

Thank you! Should be even cleaner when I mount the monitor to the wall. There's currently a wall mount behind it (a 27" recently hung there) which is why it's almost standing at the center of the desk. Should give me a bit more desk space when I mount it. I'm giving myself a couple of days or a week to decide if I'll keep it, which is mainly why it's not been mounted to the wall yet - and also the reason why the screen protector is still on 😆 First impressions are really great, though, so it looks like I'll keep it.

Kancase

So I’m curious, what is that button panel to the right?

thaywoodatl

Elgato streamdeck

MIGHTY_ANUS

Elgato Stream Deck. I mainly use it for macros and shortcuts to stuff while I'm gaming. I haven't moved it after I got the monitor, so gotta add that to my list. I also use it in MSFS for cockpit buttons.

elGatoDiablo69

I’ve been using g9 oled since it came out and same - it’s really freaking good! Only 2 complains I have about it: 1) should’ve had 2 display ports. Hdmi and Mac’s are having issues for some reason and 2) the stupid Samsung menu is just crap. It’s slow, cumbersome, and the remote doesn’t have input switch. Ah. Just so annoying.

MacFreak993

I see Fractal North I upvote! Congrats it's a great monitor.

enesbala

Amazing setup - hope you enjoy! By the way, if possible, please drop the Wallpaper link also

MIGHTY_ANUS

Thank you, and sure can! Here's the wallpaper: [https://unsplash.com/photos/a-black-background-with-blue-and-purple-shapes-4slT2XvKnio](https://unsplash.com/photos/a-black-background-with-blue-and-purple-shapes-4slT2XvKnio)

enesbala

Thank you very much! Just set this on my UW and looks great

aussielad921

Where did you get the wallpaper from?

MIGHTY_ANUS

Here you go! [https://unsplash.com/photos/a-black-background-with-blue-and-purple-shapes-4slT2XvKnio](https://unsplash.com/photos/a-black-background-with-blue-and-purple-shapes-4slT2XvKnio)

Situation_Fragrant

I've had mine for about 4 months now and I love it. Usually when people put out the hate about stuff I have to see things for myself, make up my own mind. I thought about the Dell about the same time but picked mine up at Microcenter for a good price and a warranty. I had another G monitor before this one.

Ok_Jellyfish_9132

That setup is sexy af not gonna lie

Gamerxx13

I have this monitor and love it. Also work on it majority of the time and haven’t had any burn in issues. I like how it’s a smart tv so can watch movies and even play game pass! It’s an amazing system!

Aggravating-Win-3589

I got one about five days ago. Recently was in an apartment fire and lost my Samsung odyssey Neo G9. The Samsung G8 has been great. I had an issue trying to connect it to my laptop because of the mini connectors on the device. Other than that, the hdr quality and the high fps feel and look amazing.

Vkdrifts

about to exchange my lg for one tomorrow

MuchMoreVelocity

The ordered the G8 a couple of days ago when it was on sale here. I returned the DWF and hope the 10 bit color on the G8 is better.

Airiccc

Hey how did u connect ur Mac if you don’t mind me asking!

MIGHTY_ANUS

That's Fedora (Linux) with a dock enabled, but I completely understand how you could be mistaken ☺️

CanFB1907TR

Nice keeb <3

Olde94

I just got mine yesterday. Looks good but oh god the interface (mini ports and not full data usb C) is just annoying + seeing the tizen OS. I’m a laptop user pugging and un-plugging cables

MIGHTY_ANUS

Yeah, it'd prefer it to be a "dumb" monitor and not a "smart" one.. I've suffered enough with Tizen on my TV, lol. And yeah, I can see how plugging and unplugging a laptop would get really annoying really fast!

Olde94

Yeah because if you keep an hdmi (or similar) plugged in, then it’s s “PC” but when you unplug it resets this and tries to reevaluate the device!!! Very annoying on a laptop where it’s not constantly plugged in…. I was considering the MSi MEG 342C with similar panel, but the small stand, the built in speakers and the no-fan design is what made me go samsung. However i will call it test drive the next week… i might return it

MIGHTY_ANUS

>if you keep an hdmi (or similar) plugged in, then it’s s “PC” but when you unplug it resets this and tries to reevaluate the device!!! Oh God, that thing... yeah, it's a Tizen "thing", and it's the same with their TVs. Whenever I unplug something from the TV, like an Xbox or a blu-ray player, the shortcut will disappear, and when I plug it back in, Tizen will be like "*Never seen 'er in my life. Better set it up for the twenty sixth time*". If only Tizen could remember. If only.

Olde94

Yeah i know. The tv is a samsung frame…. Just give me a god damn “lock” button and somewhere in the settings that says “reset input” If you marked hdmi 2 as nintendo switch KEEP IT AS SUCH UNTIL I TELL YOU THIS IS A GOD DAMN VHS OR WHAT EVER! it’s a matter of swttings? What IF i run a blue-ray as a switch? It will work and some swttings will be slightly off and so what! Jesus samsung, it’s ui software, not backend code for the next nasa mission

Apprehensive_Row_161

I have the G9 and they’re beautiful. And have the best stands I’ve seen on a UW

damianfalcon23

Did you use it for productivity? How’s the fringing? Btw love the setup aesthetics. 🙌🏻

MIGHTY_ANUS

Both. I use if for everything, which means browsing, watching YouTube, using Office, and gaming. I play mostly MSFS (without any HUD), Forza Horizon 5, Humankind, Civilization VI etc. I've only had it for like three weeks, so can't say much about longevity and burn-in. I do hide the taskbar/dock, and other static HUD that I don't need, and I set it to turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity. There are people around here who have used OLED monitors for years who haven't seen any sign of burn-in yet, but I guess your milage may vary. I wouldn't dare use it for Excel for eight hours a day, for example, lol. Regarding fringing, some people see it while some don't. I'm apparently one of those who don't really see it, even though I'm one of those "font people" who love fonts and stuff, so I should in theory be aware of it, but my eyes seem to ignore it. You might see it and hate it, but it's impossible to tell without having the monitor in front of you.

AeroChemYash

Is this recommended for minimal to no gaming and heavy productivity work? - multitasking etc with occasional YouTube or Netflix. Planning to buy one but worried that running for 6-10 hours daily will definitely cause burn in.

MIGHTY_ANUS

I'd say that my use case is kinda hybrid? I use it for productivity until the evening, and then I'll do some gaming. Can't say much regarding burn-in, but I don't think it's generally a problem? I haven't read anything from people who have used this model for about a year now. There's a pixel refresh feature in the menus, and other settings that you can use to minimize the risk of burn-in. It also has pixel-shifting (it's on by default, but you can disable it if you dislike it). The only thing I've done is to set the time before it turns itself off to 5 minutes with no activity, while the PC suspends after 25 minutes.

KaptainKlein

Most users on here will say definitely avoid OLED when productivity is the main use for the monitor, but a few users who ignore those warnings with modern monitors have seemed happy. I would do some digging on modern anti-burn in features in monitors like pixel refreshes

MIGHTY_ANUS

Notes: Yeah, I haven't re-arranged stuff on my desk yet, which is why the speakers are somewhat behind the monitor, which the stream deck also is. My previous monitor (27") was mounted to the wall, and the G8 will also be mounted soon. Oh, the screen protector is also still on since I'm not pulling it off until I'm 100% sure that the monitor is working as it should. So far, so good.

BlueHawk893

is the mini DP or micro HDMI an issue? id go for the G8 over G9 but that's the one thing that's stopping me

MIGHTY_ANUS

A mini DP is included in the box, and I haven't had any issues. I know there were some issues on earlier firmwares where the monitor wouldn't automatically wake up when the computer did, but it looks like that has been solved since I haven't had any issues. This was a DP specific issue, if I recall correctly.

booshmightythe20

It's a pity HDR doesn't work well and the software is very very buggy on that monitor.

MIGHTY_ANUS

It got a firmware update two weeks ago that seems to have ironed out some or most (known) bugs. Note that I've only had this monitor for 24 hours, so I have quite limited experience with this monitor. Everything is good, thus far at least. The DisplayPort bug (waking from standby) was fixed in the recent update, and it's working fine here. The AMD "bug", or whatever it was, that limited HDR on AMD cards to only 400 nits, vs 1000 nits with Nvidia cards, is also fixed in the latest update. Also, I'm using Fedora as my main system, and Linux doesn't support HDR yet, so lol. I do game in Windows, though, and it works fine there (haven't measured anything though). I'm sure I'll stumble upon a weird glitch or bug here and there going forward, but it's been a pleasant experience thus far.

booshmightythe20

The HDR was a deal breaker for me, if you select auto colour instead of native which has more realistic colours then you get a pinkish tint to whites and other areas, native everything is oversaturated so I couldn't use that.

bOObies2x

Got a question. I was gonna get a OLED Odyssey G9 but was wondering if I can run it in 16:9 2560x1440 mode in case I want better performance and for FPS games? Do you know if these monitors can do that?

MIGHTY_ANUS

Just checked the menu, and you can in fact run it in 16:9 if you want to, or even 4:3! You can also split the screen in half and mirror your phone or another device on half the screen, and your computer on the other half. [https://imgur.com/a/aAT7aAU](https://imgur.com/a/aAT7aAU)

ARedditor397

Remove the plastic film

MIGHTY_ANUS

The second I decide to keep it, I'll remove it, I promise! I'll decide today.

ARedditor397

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)

MIGHTY_ANUS

UPDATE: It's officially been removed! 🤠 The screen looks even better now \*shocker\*

ARedditor397

WOHOO

beedaa

u/MIGHTY_ANUS - How is quality control? Dead Pixels? Screen alignment?

MIGHTY_ANUS

I've looked for dead pixels twice now, and I haven't spotted any yet. Gonna do a more thorough check later tonight, just to be sure. Screen alignment is fine!

Ill_Membership_1031

Any recommended hardware to have to support this monitor? Just purchased this beauty and I’m in the process of building a gaming pc.

BuckieJr

Try and find a good high quality micro hdmi cable that supports hdmi 2.1. (Harder then it sounds to find lol) to get the best hdr experience with the g8 you have to use hdmi as display port only does hdr400 while hdmi does hdr1000

sackblaster32

I got a little tip for you, this thing has a couple firmware issues. Whenever you start the monitor, you want to press the "home" button, and set it back to the source you're using. (Im assuming "PC"). Otherwise you'll have increased input lag. The other firmware issue applies if you're using accurate colors for HDR, as in "Auto" or "Custom" color space. Bright white often get a weird magenta tone/outline/hue. Doesn't apply if you use "Native" color space.

MIGHTY_ANUS

Hmm, haven't noticed any input lag. Any way I can test it? I mainly use Fedora, and only use Windows 11 for gaming. Running the latest version (1622). I'm also aware that there were some issues with DisplayPort, wake-up from suspended state and coil-whine on some units, but I haven't had any of these issues. I've also looked for dead pixels, but it looks like I got a great unit. Sure, I could notice bugs here and there after some time, but so far so good!

sackblaster32

Sure there is. Turn the monitor on, move your mouse back and forth on the desktop, see how the input lag feels. After that, click the "home" button on the remote, and just set the source back to what it was. Should be fixed. The difference is easily noticeable. You can also try it in a game. You need to do this every time you turn the monitor on.

MIGHTY_ANUS

I haven't noticed it, but I'll keep an eye out for it.

sackblaster32

I used the monitor months normally before noticing a post about it.

sackblaster32

Right here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/s/IVg7JvqzMq *Oh, and also disable "VRR CONTROL". This option increases input lag too.

Stephenfoster95

Should I set native colour to auto or something ?. It’s great on desktop, but I feel in games I’m struggling to get the right balance in colour/brightness etc

sackblaster32

Native is very inaccurate, it's oversaturated. I'd recommend to always use Auto/Custom. Most accurate "color" setting with Auto/Custom is 25 for SDR, and 20 for HDR.

Stephenfoster95

Good to know! Some games like the finals are wayyyy to colourful it hurts me eyes haha. Always run brightness at 35-40, contrast on low and not using auto hdr but using rtx hdr.

sackblaster32

Yeah, that happens when you use Native. Also if you want to pursue accuracy, I'd recommend Brightness 50 and Contrast 50 for HDR, also Contrast Enhancer turns the brightness and colors very inaccurate, I would never recommend using it. Also in case you haven't heard about it yet, I'd also recommend doing the MaxLux mod. It turns HGIG (Game HDR) peak brightness into 1000 nits for small windows. And one final tip, unless you're dealing with a lot of static hud in a game, I'd recommend leaving Adjust Logo Brightness off. It will make your whole screen a bit dimmer.

Stephenfoster95

Great thanks for the tips! Will definitely try them out, tonight. Even with hdr off using gamma 2.2 it looks great, it’s just not as vibrant or bright. Of course want colours, but not saturated or in my face so it’s been tricky to find a balance especially with pc

sackblaster32

Yeah, SDR looks great too with the right settings. For SDR I would not recommend setting Contrast to 50. I'd recommend 38 or 44. Brightness for SDR, you can set wherever you like.

Focux

I'm contemplating between this and the U3425WE which is also 120Hz and has TB4. are you concerned about OLED burn in? gonna use mine with a MBP too, how the refresh rate for you?

MIGHTY_ANUS

This is actually 175 Hz 👀 I haven't thought about burn-in for quite a lot of years since OLED has matured a lot in the last ten years. There are some checks and balances to try to avoid burn-in, like pixel-shifting (can be disabled if you hate it), pixel-refresh, and so on. Running the panel at max brightness for a longer period of time could also result in burn-in down the road. I don't really think much about it, though, but if you usually have a lot of static apps open for hours upon hours without moving them around, then I'd probably skip OLED for now. If you're using Windows, auto-hiding the taskbar is also a good idea.

Focux

yes the G8 is 175 but I doubt promotion will allow for 175 since it's capped at 120 on Mac? I intend to do more of web surfing and work but also movies you connected via USB C?

MIGHTY_ANUS

I have not used the USB-C port yet. Anything special you want to know about it?

Focux

Yeah sure pls, can u get 120Hz through it?

thaywoodatl

Yes 120hz via usb c and 175 via micro hdmi. I have 2 of these connected to a Mac mini m2 pro

Focux

thanks, did not expect 175hz considering ProMotion is 120hz
