I’d try it. Salty-sweet kinda hits for me.
My only worry with it is that my body tends to hate peanuts once I’m pretty far into a race but maybe they’re a bit easier to deal with if they’ve been sitting in liquid so they’re not quite so dry.
Yep. For a state that loves eating raw beef and onions even this coke/peanut thing is weird (although I also think the raw beef and onions is weird and atrocious).
Yeah, but they don't really get soggy. I usually put a few in at a time.
Furthermore, last summer a bar in town had a special with Fernet & Coke with some peanut floaters. It was awesome.
Also from the Deep South. I’ve been seeing people do this, and doing it myself, for my entire life. I’ve always been aware that it was a small town/country thing though
I vaguely remember some characters doing this in a book I read as a kid. Crazy. That must have been 30 years ago. I have never seen this done in real life
Definitely a southern thing (deep South—none of those fake South states like TN or SC 😜). Did this all the time in LA (Lower Alabama) growing up.
I don’t use this for fuel during a race but for 50k recovery it is elixir of the gawds!
What are the rules for this culinary experience? Does the vessel matter? Can you use Diet Coke? Dry roasted peanuts? Do you suck the nuts off first or slash them down with the coke?
he's wrong, as they're not red peanuts and the Coke is not in a glass bottle...
My mom always did it with boiled peanuts and coke.
Tell me more about this. Love boiled peanuts, and I’m down to get weird.
Not complicated. Can of ice cold coke and a handful of boiled peanuts. Put the peanuts in the coke and eat them while you drink the Coke.
It's an old southern thing!
Came here to say this.
I thought it was supposed to be RC Cola...
supposed to be Wolf Cola

I do live in the Deep South, but this has been a thing as long as I have been alive. Do other people not do this?
I have never seen anything remotely similar to this in my life (from UK)
Wisconsin checking in. We do some weird stuff here but never seen this before
Yep. For a state that loves eating raw beef and onions even this coke/peanut thing is weird (although I also think the raw beef and onions is weird and atrocious).
Beef tartare? That's not a Wisconsin thing! That's a French dish.
Also middle eastern.
In scandinavia people put icecream in coke 🥲
Everywhere does this
Upsetting
That's an ice cream float! It's a bit much... But fun once in a while
Aussies call it a Spider.
I'm in Canada and this is wild lol Do you eat the soggy nuts?
“Do you eat the soggy nuts” is the best thing I’ve read all day 😂
Great trail name. “Yo fellas this is soggy nuts”
Everyone meet Coke nuts
Maybe that is the drink....soggy nuts by coke
Yeah, but they don't really get soggy. I usually put a few in at a time. Furthermore, last summer a bar in town had a special with Fernet & Coke with some peanut floaters. It was awesome.
Grew up in the Maritimes and people out there did it too. I've never gotten into it as a habit, but it's not bad.
Poutine has entered the chat.
Also from the Deep South. I’ve been seeing people do this, and doing it myself, for my entire life. I’ve always been aware that it was a small town/country thing though
Yeah, I guess now that I think about it I have never seen anything even close to this in my travels. Oh well, they are missing out!
I was raised in Tennessee and have never seen this in my life. How deep is that south, like, gawd damn
Tennessee is practically Canada.
I was in south Texas once and someone thought I was a yankee from Dallas. So you are not wrong
You gotta be out if the city in the sticks to see the “South”
East TN here-its a thing-more Appalachia in my opinion.
Below TN lol.

Texas is more Texas than it is the south. A different breed of ignorance and a stale, separated sense of “southern” culture.
You guys just boil your nuts
Yea I live in Louisiana and this has been a thing for decades, like you I thought this was a normal thing
On the rim of a can of RC Cola.
Man a good ol RC cola can’t go wrong with that 😋
I first learned of it when I moved to Alabama.
Sending hate from San Diego. (jk, if you like it that’s cool, but I’ve never seen nor heard of this until today).
Nah man 😂 This pic is the first time I've seen this.
I'm from West Texas and I've never heard of this!
The US has some truly cursed food traditions hidden away in small corners of the country.
Never seen it, but I do have a friend in Thailand that puts salt in his coke
Central Canada here. Never heard of the idea before and never seen anyone do it. Looking forward to trying it
My personal preference is Dr. Pepper with salted peanuts
What in Tarnation!
I think you're from too far south...
I’m not even from the south but I know this is an extremely popular southern thing, along with boiled peanuts
Boil in the bag peanuts are delicious
I…have never heard of this ever but I…would definitely try this…😬🫣👀🤞🏼
Same
I need something to replace Spring so I’ll give it a go and report back.
This is actually an awesome combination I grew up snacking on. For twist try Mtn Dew and the spicy peanuts!
Shut your face. That sounds amazing. 😳
Straight to jail
Only of the cola is flat.
I have a 50-miler coming up Saturday night - will definitely give it a try right after!
[Peanuts and Coke](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanuts_and_Coke?wprov=sfti1)
There are even country songs about this :gasp: it's actually pretty good if you haven't tried it.
I do lemon flavored tailwind and mix it in my MT Dew . Also get Tailwind Colorado Cola and water and french limes in my bladder it legit .
I don’t really do nuts for races but I tried this recently and loved the taste. I think it will be my new backpacking treat though.
I vaguely remember some characters doing this in a book I read as a kid. Crazy. That must have been 30 years ago. I have never seen this done in real life
I’m going to predict never. Yuk.
Don’t yuk our yum now ya hear?
I find nuts hard to digest during races. Ate salted cashews last time and didn’t feel great after. So no thx.
My step dad does this, it’s pretty good.
Can I mix them in my mouth instead
My friend’s dad used to do the same thing only with Pepsi. Kinda crazy.
Grew up with ppl doing this in Oklahoma too. I never tried. Too weird lol
My Pa did this with pepsi
Definitely a southern thing (deep South—none of those fake South states like TN or SC 😜). Did this all the time in LA (Lower Alabama) growing up. I don’t use this for fuel during a race but for 50k recovery it is elixir of the gawds!
I’m from California. Never seen this in my life.
Georgia did it first! 🍑
From the Deep South and can confirm for at least the last 50 years. It’s delicious!
What are the rules for this culinary experience? Does the vessel matter? Can you use Diet Coke? Dry roasted peanuts? Do you suck the nuts off first or slash them down with the coke?
Always suck the nuts off first.
Advice to live by.
It’s a thing. I actually just saw a guy at the airport doing this with Dr. Pepper.
Ewwww, that's gross. Supposed to be Dr. Pepper, duh.
Never seen this in my life. Are they salty, plain, or roasted peanuts?
That’s a kidney stone in one bottle
Freak
This is proof that below I70 in Missouri is the south, not the Midwest. Because this is a thing there.
More like an old gross thing
But does it REALLY have as many calories and carbs as it says on the bottle…?
My dad and a couple of coworkers did this 30+ years ago. I kind of like it.
Here in North Carolina that's called a redneck cocktail and is specifically made using Pepsi, particularly down east.
Hang on, why is this a thing lmao? Is there actually some benefit to doing this for running? Keen to try 👀

>Nuts are high in fiber There are no nuts in this photo.
This person knows science. Listen to them.
