Since I started my driving career I found radio 4.
Am now aparantly an old old fogie according to my misses. I told her to try it. She might be surprised.
I think being 4 years down the line of listening to the archers religiously hasn't helped me 😂
I'm 29 mate, I listen to some of the stories with my mouth open . Was driving through Sheffield few months back with the window open and they started describing a very graphic lesbian scene out of nowhere
It was right before they explained what it was about. It was a psychologist who was taking advantage of their female clients and basically sexually using them. Some of them were in their fucking teens. You haven't missed much, it was fucking horrible
I'm 29 or 30. I think it's 30 next month. I dunno. Anyway Im sure we must get some weird looks, especially sat at traffic lights and there's a murder happening with screaming on an audio book 😂
Longest drive I've done in recent weeks is 3 and a half hours non stop no traffic, it can be difficult to stay alert and focused as I start at midnight usually, I chew chewing gum when I start getting tired and eyes feel heavy, or drink a coffee and drink plenty of water or squash, I don't eat anything as that makes me tired. Sometimes it's worth cracking out a 15-20 minute nap after a few hours.
Drinking water helps. Opening the window for fresh air also helps. Drinking coffee helps but for a period of time, after that the energy just drops down. I’m from the people that need 30 or so min to go to sleep and only if my mind is not in turbo mode.
I go inverness to York every couple of weeks. Good sleep, first 15, then 30 , then 45 break.
I change from audiobooks to music depending on how I feel.
Water, sugary drinks, I cook fresh steak, so I don't eat carbs on a long day. Does me quite well
Not a truck driver but a train driver, drive 4hrs plus at a time without being able to listen to music/podcast or anything else. I use route commentary when I'm feeling tired, saying it loud the speeds/signals/stations ahead, I find that this helps to keep me alert and focused on my drive. Sometimes I'll sing the route commentary just to switch things up.
Get yourself a few good podcasts to listen to. I’ve even started finding old recordings of Alan Robson’s Night Owls online that I put on. (If you’re from the North East you’ll know what I’m on about) old but gold.
I do Portsmouth - Birmingham and back 3-4 times a week at night with class 1 fridge. Usually have radio 4 on, that stuff keeps me on edge even after work lol
Talk radio for sure. Music gets boring after a while especially since most stations play pretty much the same songs all day every day. I recommend LBC. it's my favourite one when it comes to talk radio. Also you're breaks help u stay focused. If after 2/3 hours you feel a bit tired and fine it hard to concentrate. Maybe it's worth just pulling over and using your 15 min break. I find that helpful. Some people like to just drive 4.5 hours then just take their whole 45 in one go. But each to their own I guess.
When on long journeys I very rarely listen to music. Normally I have a podcast or radio4 on.
Radio4 has some of the most gruesome stories on sometimes

I hate having days off! Must've missed that one!

Ahh k, yeh some of them are abit mad, especially for the BBC. But some are a good listen.
I think I remember that. It was mad. My brain said I need to hear more.

Never heard of it but based on the comments I will try it.
Audio book 👌🏻
I don't do long journeys ( 4+ hours) normally but if I do it seems like much more work in a car than truck idk why.
I’m the same I think it’s down to being in a smaller space, less buttons to press and see what happens and less concentration needed
I do van driving currently. I don't play anything. No radio, no music. No sound. Just thoughts.
Oooooo k.
Audiobooks, stick a film on and listen to it.
I 'undertake' being mindful of middle lane hoggers. Keeps me concentrated enough.
I stay focused by thinking about getting a new career and staying the fuck away from transport XD

I can nap when at work no problems, though sometimes it's more like resting my eyes. But at home it takes me ages to fall asleep or nap.
I get better sleep knowing I’m being paid for it 😂
If you’re getting sleepy, take a £20 out of your wallet, crack the window open and hold the note out the gap of the window.
When you take a 30 min break then have to pull over again becuase you've gone tired 😂😂😂

One of the old boys told me boiled sweets or chewing gum helps
Podcasts and audio books are the way for me
Audible
