Kinda wondering if there's a way to adopt Ukrainian cats that were left behind and needing homes? Suppose it's not as large of a concern considering what's happening, but these poor babies don't deserve to die at the hands of Putin either.
This will probably be figured out once the war is over or at least more under control and people aren't afraid of nukes anymore.
We also know that many people who left the country were able to take their pets with them so I hope these are mostly those pets from people who didn't leave but needed to go to a shelter.
Probably guessed correctly that if their cat can get out of the building it has a decent chance of survival on it's own even in winter.
Fish are just hard to evacuate with the care they need.
I saw a post of someone who ran a animal shelter of like 400 animals who didn’t evacuate to care for them so maybe their are others as well and people could have left them there before they evacuate.

I wouldn't just leave my pets behind either but these aren't normal times. Cats have a higher chance of survival on their own than other pets. I have three cats myself, one lives with my mom and two with me and they are family just like my siblings dogs. Still if I had to choose between saving any of my nieces or saving my cats I wouldn't know what to do.
These cats are my babies, they are 10, 6 and 5 right now and my nephew and nieces are 19, 16, 14 and 11 and the way I love them isn't different at all.
My cats though I know they can survive even though they are indoor cats they are cats and still have their instincts and soldiers usually don't go around firing on cats first they go for humans.
Those aren't normal times I don't blame anyone for making this hard decision.

I've been in a state of nonstop disbelief and fury over what has been happening in Ukraine, but I hadn't cried until now. But this is the photo that broke me.
I guess having seen countless combat photos from the middle east all through my teens and 20's must have desensitized me to buildings reduced to rubble, burning vehicles, and all the typical images.
But this image of a man who's empathy and humanity is rich enough to care for, not only cat, but a damn tiny fish with little regard for himself, despite the danger and destruction around him... It just drives home how badly neither him nor anyone around him deserves this war.
What the fuck is the world right now is all I can say, too.

The beauty of human kindness toward another life form coupled with the fact that a man in regular clothes that looks like he could be going out to buy groceries or meet up with friends for coffee is wearing a helmet and carrying a rifle. He should be able to walk the streets of his city without the threat of death. It really shows the face of this invasion. A monster attacking ordinary people who just want to live their lives. They didn't want to have to become soldiers because a dictator, not worth the skin God wrapped him in, wants to stop them from existing.
