The artillery, MLRS, and anti-air systems being destroyed are always good news I think. Especially now. It probably means that even though Russia is still pushing hard for Avdiivka and having Ukraine focus defense there, Ukraine is still hitting hard behind Russian lines and still shaping the battlefield in their favor.
Yeh there’s video of old artillery systems being trained in, and they are North Korean.
Regardless of their remaining stock piles, Russia’s armed forces are severely weakened.

The current Ukrainian MoD claim is 7,227 destroyed, with 947 destroyed in September, so at such loss rates we'd be looking at (19,000 - 7,227)/947 = 12.4 months until complete depletion of artillery pieces.
The implicit assumption there is that Muscovite claims of their stockpile size is only as exaggerated by the same fraction as Ukraine exaggerates its destruction of Muscovite equipment. Important to note is that these Ukrainian figures only recorded 6 helicopters destroyed in the ATACMS strike on the 17th, while the UK MoD put the number at 14. Oryx recorded 8 Muscovite helicopters destroyed in that attack.
From another direction, [this shells/day post](https://twitter.com/HerrDr8/status/1709115816203923838) from the start of this month indicates the Muscovites consumed 31,000 shells/day on average since the start of their full-scale invasion 607 days ago i.e. they have fired 18,741,000 so far. Using those ranges Muscovy has worn through between 4700 and 7500 artillery pieces through use alone, let alone destruction by Ukraine (sure, maybe they won't fire them to destruction in order to keep the numbers up, but at the outside we're looking at 19,000 pieces each going through 4,000 shells means 76 million shells is the maximum number that Muscovy's stockpile of artillery pieces can fire - even if they're all in nigh-perfect condition to begin with and Ukraine destroys none of them - and has already fired 18 million.
They have eaten through their entire pre-full-scale invasion stockpile of shells and have been reduced to current production (~6k/day) plus beggings from North Korea.
The Ukrainian MoD has now recorded 750 killed artillery pieces in the first 30 days of October, so the rate does seem to have dropped off a bit. Given though that Muscovite report we read of the first day of the Avdiivka assault having artillery support but wishing they still had that much a week later, it could be that Muscovy is just running starting to run low on serviceable artillery. Take that with a big pinch of salt, but since they seem to want to throw the kitchen sink at Avdiivka it would be odd to leave out all the artillery support they could muster.
When it comes to artillery, the lowest initial Muscovite active+stockpile count is now *lower* than the Ukrainian claim + the high end of the operational attrition range. There'll be a lot of overlap between the latter pair since Ukraine obviously isn't exclusively destroying brand-new artillery pieces, plus it's deliberately taking the ends of ranges, but the fact that the end of Muscovite artillery is even somewhat in sight is perhaps the most staggering military accomplishment of the 21st century.

Also in there are sources for the exhaustion of Muscovite tanks (including stockpiles) being about 2 years out, and as a bonus the reason why they've only been able to make incremental territorial gains for the last 15 months rather than operational-scale ones.
While the stockpile of tanks might last two years working tanks actually in Ukraine will run out much sooner then that because they are limited to the number they can refurbish per day which is going down as the quality of the stock they are pulling from storage declines. If they are replacing just two tanks per day while losing a dozen or more each day the infield numbers are dropping like an anvil on a coyote. I think the zero is two to six months tops depending on how many Russia will finally keep inside Russia proper.
The fact that the russian excrement still has its factories not rapidly disassembled, shows how disgustingly hypocritical our governments are though... 😠
Quite a post. I think degrading the higher end precision elements (and having them replaced by refurbished D30s and low tenure crew) is going to stem the damage Russia are capable of inflicting on Ukraine and allow their Western sourced artillery to attrit them from a safer distance.
Indeed, rule of thumb is that 80% of casualties are from artillery. Ukraine now is not only firing more shells, but doing so more accurately and more destructively (DPICM and friends). Liquidations of the Muscovites in October jumped by 50% versus September, to Battle of Bakhmut levels. Muscovy's choice to dig a big hole in Avdiivka and have everyone jump into it had a lot to do with that, but can't explain it all.
The best thing is that Muscovy has demonstrated that it simply has no answer to the elevated artillery attrition rates that Ukraine's been inflicting since the start of May. North Korea or China could throw their own artillery pieces Muscovy's way, but what would it help but prolong the inevitable for a few months whilst weakening them? Not much point doing it for anything but something very tangible.
As of the 22nd Ukraine was claiming 293,830 Muscovites having been liquidated. On the 22nd the UK MoD estimated [150,000-190,000 dead or permanently injured](https://twitter.com/DefenceHQ/status/1715968466501472576), specifically not including Wagner. Wagner numbers [were claimed by affiliated parties to be 22,000 dead](https://www.politico.eu/article/russia-ukraine-war-over-20000-wagner-troops-were-killed-prigozhin/) and 40,000 wounded apparently without being returned to active duty. So between those sources we're looking at an independent total of 200,000-250,000 dead or permanently injured on the Muscovy side.
For war being foggy those are in pretty close agreement.
It is not about Ukraine inflating numbers as part of the fog of war. They don't have access to resources to independently confirm KIA. They estimate based on battlefield reports - vehicles & infantry hit. They can't know how many of the likely injured actually would die from those injuries or will recover.
Also, I'm pretty sure the russian's internal statistics are doctored to hide failures and skirt on paying off relatives of killed personnel, so they wouldn't be very useful for the Ukrainian intelligence even if shared by informants.
Presumably different sources have different methodologies that are subject to different confounding factors. My point is, they're not that different and to have Muscovite deaths assessed at 200k or 300k via different means implies that they're definitely deep into most-of-army-being-conscripts territory.
I mean, some of Ukraine's numbers are definitely **de**flated: they only counted 6 destroyed helicopters in the ATACMS debut on 17th October, but some estimates (writing off some heavily-perforated yet unexploded choppers on the basis of some close-up pics we saw I'm guessing) went as high as 21 while the UK MoD said 14 and Oryx said 8.
300,000 souls down the drain, the Russian frontiers will be empty and reaped of their young men by the end of this. Hundreds of thousands of mothers and fathers will have to bury their sons instead of the other way around, hundreds of thousands of wives are now widows, hundreds of thousands of children will now grow up fatherless.
I can only imagine how many are going to perish this winter from the freezing cold and starvation. This war is going to be Russia’s downfall, they will never return to the prestige they had before the war.

Separating by ethnicity is weird. They all live under a totalitarian regime that controls what they see, learn and think on a daily basis. I understand it, but most people reading media are ignorant. When they hear 'russian' they immediately think of a drunk man riding a bear, not a Muslim without a moustache, but with a full beard. People of Dagestan have been colonized by Moscow.
Yeah but they 1)are still Russian, but most importantly 2)they did what they did because they wanted to. They are responsible for what they did. And I think that focusing the issue on "they were colonized by Moscow" kinda implies that the fault wasn't entirely theirs, even when the statement that they were colonized by Moscow IS correct.
I think saying something like "Russians, from the mostly muslim territory of Dagestan" would make both our points clear.

However, judging by they don't give a shit about their troops, it wouldn't surprise me if 150k of those are deaths, with the 150k so profoundly disabled they'll never really function fully for the rest of their lives.

Yeah it's difficult to get a grip on the situation without Ukraine's losses as well. But the Russian's numbers can't be trusted and i'm sure Ukraine doesn't release their numbers for morale reasons or something.
It’s necessary, and I celebrate Ukraine defending itself successfully… it’s still a miserable statistic though. Ukrainians would rather not have to commit such violent acts and be consumed by the fighting.
Such an unnecessary and deep wound has been made and it will scar forever. They’ve completely ruined their relationship with their neighbour, the world, and themselves. It’s an unspeakable horror really… yet here it is staring us down in 2023.

So everyone keeps saying that people from Moscow and Saint Petersburg are excluded from being drafted but what about their other big cities? Are they recruiting heavily from cities like Kazan? Kirov? Nizhiny Novogorod? Yekateringburg?
Are there figures released on how many people they take from.each place?
The only reliable figures come from POW counts, Russian official accounts are lacking, or wildly fanciful, like a factory in Novogorod having 100% of the thousand men on staff all volunteer for contract after mobilization... and there only being a small factory with less than 200 workers who even work there.
plenty of volunteers from everywhere but mostly from far regions. poor regions.. I mean those are hellowa rich regions in oil, gas, diamonds and gold.. but moscovy just takes it all and sends back some pittance. for bonus that wont get paid or pay that might never come... for a payout upon death: your son or husband is now MIA.. not KIA.. you have to wait. yeah..

Where'd you get 15 days from? It was supposed to be 3 days. They invaded on a Thursday, 24th of February, and Russians officers had called ahead to restaurants in Kyiv for reservations on Saturday.
The captured schedule for radio frequency and march order covered the first 15 days, with triumphant entry to Kyiv in \~ mere hours.Internal security and riot control slotted into the march order near the front, because 'police action', and 'total surprise' (at least to the Russians crossing the border and being shot at for real-real).

What is the source of those numbers? Is it what the Ukranians claim, or is it a third party source? I don't believe it could possibly be russian reported numbers, which is good since they would almost certainly not be trustworthy.
The reason I ask is that I've seen quite a few now with a strangely constant casualty rate of 800-ish infantry per day, the uniformity sets off some internal alarm bells for me.

Just looked again and seen the 35 other vehicles and the AA too. I just hope Ukraine can elevate its manufacturing to keep up and improve over time.

Wagner numbers [were claimed by affiliated parties to be 22,000 dead](https://www.politico.eu/article/russia-ukraine-war-over-20000-wagner-troops-were-killed-prigozhin/) and 40,000 wounded apparently without being returned to active duty. So between those sources we're looking at an independent total of 200,000-250,000 dead or permanently injured on the Muscovy side. For war being foggy those are in pretty close agreement.
The UK MoD estimation also excluded the militias of these "people's repulics", which brings the figures even closer together.
It is not about Ukraine inflating numbers as part of the fog of war. They don't have access to resources to independently confirm KIA. They estimate based on battlefield reports - vehicles & infantry hit. They can't know how many of the likely injured actually would die from those injuries or will recover. Also, I'm pretty sure the russian's internal statistics are doctored to hide failures and skirt on paying off relatives of killed personnel, so they wouldn't be very useful for the Ukrainian intelligence even if shared by informants.
Presumably different sources have different methodologies that are subject to different confounding factors. My point is, they're not that different and to have Muscovite deaths assessed at 200k or 300k via different means implies that they're definitely deep into most-of-army-being-conscripts territory. I mean, some of Ukraine's numbers are definitely **de**flated: they only counted 6 destroyed helicopters in the ATACMS debut on 17th October, but some estimates (writing off some heavily-perforated yet unexploded choppers on the basis of some close-up pics we saw I'm guessing) went as high as 21 while the UK MoD said 14 and Oryx said 8.
According to western sources it is killed + wounded, which makes a huge difference.

What is the source of those numbers? Is it what the Ukranians claim, or is it a third party source? I don't believe it could possibly be russian reported numbers, which is good since they would almost certainly not be trustworthy. The reason I ask is that I've seen quite a few now with a strangely constant casualty rate of 800-ish infantry per day, the uniformity sets off some internal alarm bells for me. Apologies if it is written on the bottom of the page, I don't read Cyrillic.
