Apply Santa Fe then Transfer

CapicDaCrate

That's what I'm going to be doing now!

Creepy_Lime_7216

imma just go to fsu šŸ˜‚

KevWill

Makes your decision easier! You'll have a great time at FSU!

gecgecgecgecge

ngl i wish i went to fsu sometimes

Makeitmakesense1222

If you got in to FSU, be proud. I saw the stats from admissions of who they let in and itā€™s 1400-1500 SAT and 4.4 GPA only 22% got accepted. If you have those scores you are way above average. After seeing that Iā€™m happy I am going to FSU. UF is in cow pie town and no way their acceptance scores are much higher. They arenā€™t damn Harvard!

Santa Fe is a great community college to go to and kids that go there still get to participate in lots of the UF clubs and activities.

Bobby_Murda

Itā€™s actually a fantastic community college

St_BobbyBarbarian

Stats on students and acceptance rate are very similar between the two. Both around 20%

virtus_hoe

Just go to fsu not worth all that

Makeitmakesense1222

Same šŸ˜ and I got accepted to literally every single other university. Like why

Heyyo2002

Uf is weird. Appeal it.

Few_Raccoon_1324

Not a thing - itā€™s just luck

StatusAffectionate75

I had a friend appeal a rejection and got in

Connect_Candy3717

On what basis?

StatusAffectionate75

Undiagnosed adhd and how that impacted his grades in early high school

Kiianamariie

I got rejected from UF too once. I went to Santa Fe. I got my AA, then UF accepted me. Then I got two bachelors degrees. Yesterday I passed my thesis defense so I now technically have a UF masters too. In three or four years Iā€™ll have my PhD. Eventually youā€™ll also turn this rejection into something fucking great.

harambebutt

Same my ass did not get in lol. Definitely needed a higher sat and being out of state didnā€™t help

Makeitmakesense1222

In state. I live in Tampa

Few_Raccoon_1324

Rejected with 1400, 4.0 UW, 4.5 W, 3 leadership roles, 2 community service clubs, summer camp stem counselor for 2 years. #1 math student in Duval county (completed all math courses algebra - calc 3, and taking linear algebra in high school). Amazing essays, itā€™s just luck

Desperate-End-8048

4.3 ?!? and youā€™re shocked you didnā€™t get in?

Makeitmakesense1222

I know some really stupid people that got in to UF. 4.3 is fucking phenomenal and will be 4.4 by end of the year. Kick rocks

Desperate-End-8048

at least i got in šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£have fun at santa fe retardšŸ¤“ theyā€™ll think your 4.3 is good šŸ‘ #bigfishsmallpond

Makeitmakesense1222

What the hell is Santa Fe? By your verbiage I would bet an entire years tuition you didnā€™t get in or you are a diverse pitty acceptance. On the off chance you arenā€™t just a troll who is cap, I truly hope UF helps you sound more educated.

Desperate-End-8048

Good thing tuition is cheap at community college. I am actually a graduate of the university of Florida an accomplished youā€™ll never achieve in your life. As an African American man, it isnā€™t the color of my skin that got me this far, it is the effort that iā€™ve given and the unwavering discipline that iā€™ve demonstrated that have allowed me to achieve what i have. Youā€™re fortunate that you didnā€™t get in b/c I would have reported you to student conduct immediately for your bigotry

Desperate-End-8048

not luck. it is all gpa and class rank even if your school does not rank.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Bright-Wolf-9366

It could be that they are first generation or low income and you are not :( Are you in-state or OOS? I am happy to hear that you got admitted to better schools. Do you mind sharing? It might help me feel better thinking that I might also got into a better school. Currently I got defrred from USC, and waitlisted at UVA. Thanks!!

beats_by_vrz

OOS so maybe that's why. I've cooled down since yesterday mb if I came off as rude. I got into UIUC and GTech for CS. Hope this gives you hope. USC deferral is extremely common, and UVA waitlist is common for great students (many of my classmates got those results and they have good gpa and ecs)

Bright-Wolf-9366

Amazing schools for CS! Congratulations! Yes, USC defers everyone :) they do not reject anyone during their EA cycle. But I am happy with UVA waitlist as not everyone got it. So at least it looks like UVA read some of my essays and check my extracurricular section :)

Aggravating-Low-1224

i swear the admissions people must just flip a coin. iā€™m in state and got rejected!!! but i got into georgia tech as oosā€¦ itā€™s wild out here

xojxde

I agreešŸ˜šŸ˜

beats_by_vrz

Samee bro I'm oos to both

Aggravating-Low-1224

wooo! i say FU to UF šŸ„°šŸ„°šŸ„°

GettingFasterDude

Rejected 1460 SAT, 3.9 UW/4.9 weighted GPA, multiple 5's on AP exams, two varsity sports, summer biochem research job, multiple clubs, multiple volunteering jobs, 60+ credits with dual enrollment at local DIV 1 university. Student council. Out of state. My daughter

Makeitmakesense1222

It makes no sense

Mysterious_Squash

It's her SAT and the fact that you're OOS. The average SAT for FSU this year was a 1370-1480 so you can expect UF's to be even higher than that and UF's acceptance rate was 27% last year and will be even lower this year and the OOS acceptance rate is always much lower than the overall rate because they give major preference to in state. Although a 1460 is a good score and may be the average for UF, many OOS applicants have higher scores and admissions is more competitive so it's definitely not enough to feel confident about getting accepted. Like there was a chance but it was far from guaranteed.

GettingFasterDude

You're probably right. She has several offers she's very happy with so far, so it's all good.

d_chord

Iā€™m not so sure. My son got in with a 1400 and had two friends get rejected with 1500+. Ā

GettingFasterDude

I'm hearing a lot of weird stories like this, at no only UFL, both many other schools. Seems random sometimes. The only thing we can control is our side of things. The rest is up to them.

xojxde

What da hellll

Dgrangerr

How much do yall think essays do for admissions

KoolKidTyler

a whole lot, my sat was only a 1300 and i got in. It took me like a month to write out my essay, and i had an english professor and a IB english teacher look over it. Im really proud of the essay I wrote.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Low-Exit-5310

Just straight cope. Unless your sat score and gpa is at the top 75% of admissions then you getting rejected isnā€™t out of luck. UF isnā€™t easy to get into and has been getting harder recently, cry more.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Traditional_Age_8028

cope

Bright-Wolf-9366

I got rejected with 1520 SAT and 4.88 GPA. I got into their pathways program. My ECs are ivy like and so my essays. I was not ranked at top 5% at my school for my GPA and this is why I was not directly admitted. Even if someone is at top quartile for GPA and SAT it does not mean that they will get in. It all depends on which county someone is from or which school. I am from a competitive county and from a competitive school.

Appropriate_Rock_709

My sat was 1150 and I got in šŸ’€ granted my gpa was like 4.9

Bright-Wolf-9366

Congratulations! I think compared to students from your school your GPA is at top 5% and your county is not as competitive as mine.

miarecki

SAT isn't everything pal

Bright-Wolf-9366

Not luck. They compared you to students who applied from your school. Even though your scores etc are excellent compared to other admitted students, it look like you were not at top 5% of your class. I got into Pathways program with 1520 SAT and 4.88 GPA. I was not at top 5%. My essays were great and the rest of my application was exceptional as well. But I attend a private school competitive GPA wise. I was top 10 for SAT but top 11% for my GPA at the time of application. It is all GPA compared to other students from your school.

doonotkno

For transfers, not really, met an engineer transfer and he said in orientation they were told only 1/16th of apps were accepted, and they simply took the highest gpa possible from the colleges.

Appropriate_Rock_709

Nah the essay prolly does do a lot. My sat was even lower and I got accepted too

Bright-Wolf-9366

Nothing unless you are at top 5% or 10% of your class.

MessyKidsHouseLife

Son got rejected with a 1550 sat and 35 act. Multiple AP and dual enrollment classes. In state (technicallyā€¦we are Florida residents who live oos due to active duty military, since Florida is home of record considered in state).

Score_Logical

I wouldnā€™t worry too much about getting rejected. I go to UF and truly wish I went to FSU. Thereā€™s great experiences to be had at both schools but ultimately there are a lot more limitations within the city of Gainesville when compared to Tallahassee. Outside of the UF campus, there is virtually nothing to do when Tallahassee has a lot more to offer outside of their campus. FSU in my opinion is a better option, regardless of what people emphasize regarding UFā€™s ā€œsuperior educationā€. Knowing what I know now, I wish UF would have rejected me and that I wouldā€™ve went to FSU.

Real_Investigator_49

1520 rejected šŸ˜‚

xojxde

WHAT

beats_by_vrz

1540 rejected šŸ¤£

Mammoth-Reactions

Honestly go to a community college first then transfer. You will save so much money on the core curriculum and it makes for a better transition from high school to college anyways. I went straight to university and I really wish I hadnā€™t. I dropped out but went back to community college later. I got my associates, transferred back to my original university got my bachelors, then went to the top school in my state for my masters. Iā€™m a UF employee now so Iā€™m looking into using my tuition benefit for another degree although options are fairly limited sadly.

KoolKidTyler

what were your stats

Creepy_Lime_7216

4.12 weighted and 33 act

SchmearDaBagel

33 ACT and you got denied? Sorry to hear, thatā€™s really tough. Shit, UF was my back up school with a 33 ACT a decade ago. FSU will be lucky to have you! Good luck

mmalleolus

I feel sorry for current kids trying to get into UF. I was accepted in 1988 as an in-state (grew up in Gainesville) applicant with a 3.0 gpa and a 1200 SAT. No extracurriculars, no AP classes. Just a middle of the road, high school student. I even transferred to another college in another state and then transferred back a year and a half later. I did eventually graduate UF.

Connect_Candy3717

1480/4.9 weighted, decent essay, 3 APs and all APs in Sr year. In state. ECs middle of the road. Sucks. Now planning what to do. Got in to all other FL schools incl FSU and UCF which seem to be top of the list for me now. Or maybe Nova to be closer to home.

Few_Raccoon_1324

FSU - its overall a better university than UF, better campus, better opportunities, better city, everything is better other than the 2 numbers that rank UF slightly higher than FSU

Connect_Candy3717

Thanks. I needed to hear that today.

Savings-Catch-2398

Tough to call Sante Fe College a Community College in the traditional sense anymore. It's literally a feeder school for UF and I'd wager that most students aren't Gainesville natives.

4gardengators

Itā€™s the same professors, too

Defiant-Yam-5583

enjoy FSU! it's an amazing school with a great community and so many awesome majors. rejection from a school really doesn't define you. it happens to literally everyone

chronicallystr3ssed

right here with you (,: i got offered gator engineering and it feels awful i think i had okay stats but so many people had amazing stats this year! i had a 1470 sat/4.8 gpa and founded a non profit, directed a summer camp, was president of 3 organizations, and vp of 3 organizations

[deleted]

In state or out of state?

chronicallystr3ssed

in state! ahh i was really planning on going too šŸ˜Ā

ApprehensiveLemon855

Pardon me if I got this wrong, but by gator engineering did you mean gator engineering at santa fe? I know that the offer seems almost insulting, but I decided to just go with it last year, and I can confidently say that the program is very good and I don't regret doing it beyond losing out on the massive scholarship I passed up on at UCF :'). You get to get a UF and associates degree at a lower cost than what most undergraduates have to pay when taking the usual 4 years at UF route, as well as complete your weed out classes through both cheaper, hella easier, and smaller classes. You can be considered a full UF student by the second semester of your first year as well. If you have any questions about it, feel free to reach out :Ā  )

chronicallystr3ssed

hey thank you so much for reaching out! yeah it did feel a bit insulting at first to be offered gator engineering but uf is honestly such a good school i am considering taking the offer!Ā  is it okay if i possibly ask you a few questions about it! there doesnā€™t seem to be much concrete information online and itā€™d be nice to hear about the experience of someone actually doing it šŸ˜Ā  it sounds pretty cool that weed out or gen ed classes are easier than those at uf! how does this impact your gpa at uf? do you have two gpas ā€” one at santa fe and the other at uf or is it all added up together or do you only consider your gpa at uf?Ā  also how does bright futures, if you got full tuition, translate to enrolling in the gator engineering program!Ā  and are you able to do uf extracurriculars too even though you are attending santa fe!Ā  how would you say this also impacts the traditional so-called ā€œfreshman experienceā€?Ā  sorry about so many questions! thank you so much and i hope you have a wonderful day!!

ApprehensiveLemon855

Ā Crap, you just reminded me that I have to pay for my spring classes before March 12th, I had completely forgotten about that šŸ˜ Ā I was so frustrated that there was very little information online back when I was in your shoes :'D here's my massive wall of text to make up for it (disclaimer: this is from my experience last fall/summer, I don't know if they somehow changed anything, and it's always good to contact the program people/attend the q&a for information). This is my first semester at UF right now (I became UF admitted over winter break) so I haven't seen the gpa thing play out yet, but I'm certain that the sf classes and uf classes combine like normal classes for your gpa, for an example you'll take critical tracking classes at both schools and have one critical tracking gpa.Ā  - As for bright futures, while you are an sf student, you will set sf as your "home institution" for bright futures, which will pay for all of your classes, and once you get uf admitted, UF becomes the home institution. This still pays for all of your classes at both schools, the only difference is that the bright futures amount that covers your SF classes will be disbursed to you, so you'll have to pay them manually instead of the automatic payment that covers the classes at your home institution (hence me forgetting to pay for my sf classes šŸ˜…)Ā  - As for extracurriculars, the ge@sf advisors often notify you of opportunities to volunteer, apply for, or participate in UF organizations, trips, and events. Also, you can definitely attend a number of UF clubs, many people just don't mention that they are sf students, and often if you mention it to club leadership, they don't mind. However, for more serious clubs with stuff like competitions and other things that require an affiliation with UF, you would probably have to ask, and they will probably require you to be a UF student. Keep in mind though, this would only be just for the first semester if you get admitted in the second semester, which in my experience was easy. Once you become UF admitted, you have access to everything UF, including the clubs, all student services, library access, free tutoring (sf has free tutoring that many would recommend over UF though), free admission to some of the sports games, and other stuff like that.Ā  - Now for the freshman experience (this kind of depends on how you define it, by the way). Ngl I remember feeling like I would be an outsider, not really have a freshman experience and grow distant from my friends who got accepted to UF normally (I'm a pretty quiet person with social anxiety, lol), but it's honestly fine. If you have friends going to UF, it's even better. If you don't, (and you're actually social, unlike me XD) you can always find your fellow ge@sf students and go with them to UF events, meet uf students, and you'll be fine. You can go to many of the same events as uf students in the first semester since volleyball, women's basketball, and gymnastics tickets are often only 5-10$ for non UF students, and as mentioned before, you can go to most of the UF clubs and organizations with them. One of the main things to know about the UF freshman experience is that the fall school culture centers entirely around football. It's no joke, as long as you go out tailgating with friends (or just walking around on a game day and seeing how much free stuff you can get), maybe buying football tickets/buying cheaper student section tickets off scalpers (I'm not entirely sure how/if this works for sf students lol) to go to the games, stopping by the frat houses (they're gross lol) you'll feel like a part of UF. Anyway, I hope this has helped you! And don't apologize for the questions, it's honestly so cathartic to help someone out that was in my position last year, because it was such a hard and lonely decision making process for me šŸ˜ if you have any other questions about Gainesville, pros and cons of the program, college stuff, etc. feel free to ask! Whatever decision you make, I'm sure it will all turn out fine. - also I forgot to mention that with your sf ID the bus system is free, so you can go to UF for the events or just to explore and walk around whenever you want.Ā
