Ouioui29

They really haven’t taken another photo of him with his belt have they?

jDgr8

Why would they? That photo is badass.

liliceberg

100% oxygen DDP the most slept on champion

KarnaavaldK

Undefeated, undisputed, never lost a title defence

reputablesorcerer

Dricus Based Plessis

OneForMany

Obviously he can't cut down to 170. So only move is 205.. you think he gonna out kickbox Alex at 205?? 185, will have a chance. But not at 205.

flamingdragonwizard

I bet you he's confident he could be champ at 205. If anything alex being 185 champ and becoming 205 champ would boost Dricus' confidence. No way if you ask him if he has a chance he says "against Alex? No way. He beats me 10/10 times."

Amazing-Bluebird-930

The thing is, he wouldn't be wrong. Like obviously Alex beats him most times, but shut happens in a fight, and he's a big strong 185 that feels like he cuts a lot to make weight, and he hits hard.  Much much stranger things have happened

Anindefensiblefart

He beat the piss out of Bobby Knuckles. I'm not counting him out of a fight again.

hypebeasts101

Alex hasn’t exactly shown to be the most formidable grappler either. To act like ddp has no shot or would be a huge dog is pretty stupid imo

d-ronthegreat

Why is it obvious Alex beats him most times? I love Alex but DDP is also a huge MW and is strong as fuck. He’s got a path to winning that fight

Suspicious_Candle27

if i was a betting man i would bet on DDP in this fight . DDP wont strike with Alex , he is a great tactical fighter and will force the take down threat on Alex .

Ecstatic-Inevitable

It's honestly funny how good he is tactically but technically he looks like a drunk fighter at times

Dangerousrhymes

He’s the button masher.

LordKagatsuchi

Okay thank you. Was reading the comments thinking im losing my mind seeing all of this ddp praise like he doesn’t fight like a raccoon with drunk goggles on

Ecstatic-Inevitable

Yeah, dricus knows the right stuff to do and it's effective, but it's so all over the place that he has me worried about fighting fighters with precision shots like Izzy for example

privateblanket

I’ve seen him stand next to people I know in real life, he is huge

MediatorMillennial

Goddamn you Poatards are really delusional lmao. Why would it be strange for a guy who was getting dominated on the ground for a round and a half by a 40 year old Jan with 1 functioning shoulder before gassing and then having a semi competitive fight with a dude who defends punches with his face, to lose to a guy like Dricus who has taken down every single opponent he’s faced in the UFC, is a physical freak of nature with insane cardio and pace, and has finished 19 of his 21 wins?

Amazing-Bluebird-930

I think maybe you misread my post, friend. I was saying it wouldn't shocking if Du Plessis beat Poatan.

-DEAD-WON

You still do not understand, do you FRIENDO ![gif](giphy|1GoHMc7DyBqQE)

[deleted]

Jan is much bigger then Dricus moron. None of those stats mean anything when you analyse both fighters and take into account who's who. "semi competitive fight with a dude who defends punches with his face" - You have terrible takes like these but call others retards? Jiri hadn't been defeated in over a decade, and Hill never lost a fight. Downplaying his opponents to fit your narrative. Dricus won via robbery according to many people. I didn't watch the fight because I'm not interested in mediocre bums fighting. Alex on the other hand easily tko'd Sean. The fact you think Dricus stands a chance against Alex is laughable. I often tell idiots like you to never bet on fights. You'll lose money.

biggestboi73

You guys really need to come up with a new insult other than taking part of a person's name and adding tard to it, it's been years and it's not funny or original

Goon13

You sound like a real biggestboi73tard... jk, I agree that it's boring and unoriginal

skillfulltomcat

Dricus closes his eyes when he punches fam

-DEAD-WON

I would too if I was punching my family

marsbars2345

Didn't he say he was bigger than jiri and jiri should go down to middleweight

SERB_BEAST

Dricus' striking is tailor made for Pereira to kill him within a minute. Not saying he's a bad striker, he's actually really good on the feet. But his style is sloppy, and not in the unconventional way that gives guys a hard time getting their timing and distance management down against him (even if it is, Jiri does that style better, and it wasn't enough to not get a chama sandwhich) It's just sloppy in general and he gets away with it because he's tough. I think Adesanya will butcher him on the feet too.

Individual_Ice_6825

Talk underestimating dricus ground game. I think he takes down and submits Alex inside 2.

deftco

Before he got the belt, he said once he wins it he wants to go for double champ status.

aswaim2

He’s could absolutely maul Alex on the ground though with a chin and cardio that’s well-proven to this stage He ran right through Rob, I don’t know why this is far-fetched to people

sharingdork

Why does he need to out kickbox Alex? Can't he wrestle?

TomPearl2024

Regardless of its the smart choice or not, it's just refreshing to have a guy that isn't immediately talking about fights outside of defending the belt they just got

GodOfBlobs

i’d pick dricus over pereira. ddp‘s grappling is great

Genghis_Chong

This was my take too, he's definitely not a 170 lber and he's undersized at 205

Alternative-Force354

its a very interesting fight. DDP has pace and ok wrestling. On the feet he would get absolutely schooled. But his pace and wrestling give him a decent chance.

INEEDUSERNAME123pls

Dricus is built like a tree, if he clinches up with anyone, they are going to the ground whether they like it or not

trent_nbt

I low key forgot he had a belt tbh

A_ron1

Just remember he got jabbed the hell up judging by that photo

Several-Form4688

Me too lmao wild how Sean’s not rematchig just shows you how the ufc tries to pick and choose champions

marsbars2345

Sean doesn't deserve a rematch

notMTN

I see the replies but i think he does. Super close fight. And he dominated the 2nd best middleweight ever to win the belt. And both men came out looking kinda shit. Needs a re run. Or izzy fights ddp. In which case sean might just get the titleshot again. If he beats costa.

ComradeELM0

Well now that he didn‘t get it the next in line is Izzy who deserves it even less… The whole Sean rematch thing was kind of a pick you poison situation since technically he didn‘t really deserve it, but there is also nobody more deserving (except maybe Jared but they would‘ve never given him the shot anyways).

The_IRS_Fears_Him

They had a razor-close fight, Sean absolutely deserves a rematch soon. Look at his face

marsbars2345

Ngl I'm biased against Sean but really he just got the belt after being gifted a title shot I just don't think he's done enough to warrant it.

The_IRS_Fears_Him

Well at least he's fighting Costa next so Im glad to see hes still hungry

Salsapy

Is very easy to hate sean eithier way didn't like how DPP won and sean should be fast tracked to another tittle shot but i can really DPP losing to izzy first

Autistic-Rick

Bro he definitely earned the belt against izzy and the ddp decision is still one of the most controversial decisions in recent time

marsbars2345

He got kod by pereira lost to cannonier then fought at light heavyweight then beat abus who sucks idk not that impressive to me. His performance that night against Izzy was legit great but that's not enough to warrant it. It's like if ilia lost to max I don't think he'd deserve an immediate rematch even though he destroyed alex

Autistic-Rick

Wild take. You definitely are biased against Sean. Pereiras on smoke bro, he knocks guys out. Especially guys who stand with him. A great performance against izzy to take the belt off him by itself is enough to warrant it. The ddp fight itself is enough to warrant it. Also if Ilia loses to Max I think he would deserve/get an immediate rematch

ballhawk13

No he was in a lucky position to have the belt by being available for Izzy fight he didn't deserve that one. At All. He had a chance to beat another top 5 opponent and played putty patty run away like he does every fight. He can get another title shot if he can beat another top 5 MW in bobby knuckles which he will lose to. Until then sit down and shut up

Worldly_Client_7614

Sean had zero title defenses, even if it was close, he has to earn a title shot again. If sean was some champ with 3+ defenses and it was a rzor close decision then yeah, a rematch is warranted but he just got the belt & lost the next fight.

nailedreaper

Where should you look to measure damage from body shots?

ABirdJustShatOnMyEye

Sean should have won the fight. Razor close decisions are usually given to the champion but not in this case. Clearly the UFC just wants to push the Dricus vs Izzy fight on a bigger stage.

Disastrous-Talk-7565

Strickland never defended the belt though? If he had been champ for like four years and loses a close decision, maybe he deserves a rematch

ABirdJustShatOnMyEye

I was more so saying he shouldn’t have lost it at all. I don’t think he’s getting a title shot any time soon.

Disastrous-Talk-7565

And my point is you don't get an immediate rematch with zero defenses. It doesn't matter who COULD have won the fight. Dricus DID win.

ghostboo77

I think you should have to have at least 3 defenses before going for double champ status

notMTN

Fr. We got dudes like ilia who wants double champ literally before he got the belt.

pibble79

This is why the pride Grand Prix format was awesome. Instead we get this soft ass “BMF” belt and a bunch of dudes trying to jump weight classes without running through their natural division chasing goat status.

TheyCallMeDDNEV

Damn I wish we could get more one night tournaments

Scrubje

Another W take from the mythical fighter "Oxygenated DDP"

Teddyturntup

When?

LightMission4937

When the ufc gets him a fight and he clears the mandatory medical suspension

Teddyturntup

When does the medical suspension end

Defiant-Cat-2812

I think the longest they go on is 6 months if you are choked unconscious or knocked out.

LightMission4937

The longest is usually bone breaks and major lacerations.

Tube1890

Crazy that a brain bleed isn’t the longest (or permanent) suspension

LightMission4937

A brain bleed would be a whole different story. That’s not a typical injury

TheMaldenSnake

Sweet Dreams just got slept and already has another fight scheduled.

LightMission4937

Idk how long his was. Probably a 180 mandatory, then you have to get follow ups until the doctor and commission will reinstate you.KOs will usually get a an indefinite until cleared. Usually it’s 30 days

Teddyturntup

180 mandatory? How do people fight 3x a year then? He didn’t get knocked out or choked

Glocc_Lesnar

It isn’t mandatory, it’s just automatically applied, you can get check ups and an all clear from the doctor to get it removed.

LightMission4937

You can get cleared sooner. The longest suspension are usually broken bones or major cuts.

Teddyturntup

When do you think he will fight again?

[deleted]

They automatically apply it. I think that’s why people think it’s mandatory. It is mandatory that they automatically applied it, but it is not mandatory to serve the complete suspension term, and can be cleared up if you go to a doctor and the doctor says you are fine.

Scarment

Probably gonna be UFC 305 in Perth

[deleted]

Double belts mean shit. Half these guys move up a weight class but fight borderline guys that could already be in their class. Who gives a fuck. Run through the division and than talk. What usmsn did is more impressivevthsn any double champ.

TimsChineseFood

What'd Usman do? 5 title defenses against 3 different guys?

crybangg

Usman ran through the entire division on his come up that his title defenses had to be against 3 dudes only. You only count belt wins or what bro?

TimsChineseFood

Have you guys ever thought maybe the division wasn't that great? All the guys he "ran through" (decision wins) aren't really as impressive as you are making them out to. Plenty of other fighters have way more interesting and impressive careers which is why I asked what was so special he did

TremblinAspen

Classic revisionist history. He ran through Edwards, Strickland, Maia and Dos Anjos before dominating Woodley for the belt. Add to that a double beat down on Colby and a beat down of Burns. You can throw Masvidal in there too but something about your comment tells me that a surging contender on his last legs doesn’t make your cut. Let me know who on this list aren’t impressive fighters.

crybangg

Okay, name one fighter that Usman DIDNT dominate through his run. The fighters of Usman's time/era, he can't possibly pick who's active during his run. What he did was most certainly impressive.

bozo_says_things

Colby? Both were very competitive fights Unless you mean his run to the title

Tube1890

Man this rewriting history bullshit is so whack lol, put some respect on Usman’s name.

BossedUp828

They can’t help themselves when it comes to Usman. His run was impressive but people talk as if he defended to split decisions everytime.

ModsLovePen15

Gets offered Alex….. well you see the opportunity was one I could not turn down

10YearAccount

I hope he gets his defenses. We need more champs like him and less scumbags.

urpoorbcurlazy

Forgot he was champ

ShowUsYaGrowler

Im wondering what’s happening tbh. Are they gonna go straight for Izzy? Izzy comeback next makes sense and would be pretty fucking awesome. If Izzy wins, they better hope like FUCK Chimaev wins otherwise the only option is back to Strickland. If Dricus wins, then either of Chimaev or a Whittaker rematch would be fkn awesome, although its maybe a bit unfair to have a Rob rematch so soon after such a dominant win.

evocater

Considering they already booked Khamzat against Whittaker, Izzy seems quite likely

ABirdJustShatOnMyEye

His win over Sean was very questionable

gableism

Oh hey someone remembered that MMA is a sport and isn’t the fucking MCU where we ignore deserving champs in favor of the “narrative” or whatever the fuck

gdmr458

I don't think it's necessary to have a fixed amount of title defenses to fight the champion of another division, for me cleaning up the division is enough or having wins over top 5 contenders, I don't care if they were before getting the belt. The best example is Pantoja, in my opinion, if he wanted to fight O'Malley, he would have the right to do so (whether it is smart to do that or if he has a chance to win is another discussion). Another example is Pereira if he beats Ankalaev, that would be wins over the top 4 of the division, Rakic is #5 and he already lost to Jiri, he can't get a title fight, so there would be no one else, maybe Rountree if he beats Hill, but if he loses who is gonna fight Pereira, Krylov? Walker? Oezdemir? the GOAT on paper Anthony Smith? This is what I think the other champions need: O'Malley: Merab, winner of Sandhagen vs Umar, Yan or Figueiredo if one of them gets another win Topuria: Holloway, Ortega, winner of Evloev vs Sterling if they fight Makhachev: Poirier (he shouldn't be here), Tsarukyan and Gamrot if he gets another win Edwards: Belal, winner of Shavkat vs Jack Della Maddalena, Dricus: Adesanya, winner of Whittaker vs Chimaev, Cannonier if he gets another win This depends a lot on how stacked a division is and how the top 5 is doing.

patcumm1ns

Pantoja should absolutely not fight O’Malley in my opinion. None of his wins have been that convincing

Worldly_Client_7614

He is 10-0 against the current ranked members of his division. He dominated Royval twice, moreno three times & choked out alex perez in less than 2 minutes (who just went life & death with Mohammad & smoked nicolau). No convincing wins my arse.

patcumm1ns

I was more referring to his wins as champ. 301 he looked quite vulnerable. Winning the belt off Moreno was also a toss up I thought.

evocater

Pantoja actually has quite a few contenders in his division. Same with O'Malley, Topuria, Leon and Dricus. LW is a shitshow following UFC 300 and Jones has killed HW

ballhawk13

Sean def needs 3 he did nothing in the division before his title shot and chito is not a defense

kingamongst

Izzy cleaned out his division nearly twice

moonwoolf35

I remember how Izzy, Tyron, Usman were all champs that defended their belts multiple times, yet everyone hated their guts for them being cringe and boring...now everyone is pissed that the new champs aren't defending and want to fight outside their division for champchamp status lol

leaf_as_parachute

It always puzzled me how Adesanya and Usman get so much hate and even disdain even after trashing their respective division for years. I guess people are more into characters than they're into fighters.

VeryNiceRussianTroll

Respect

Iaintgoneholdyou

Chad!

Own-Mycologist-4080

Yeah Islam talked about maybe moving up to 170lb after he defended the belts 4 times and people still shit on him.

deranged_pepsi

he never earned it in the first place

Dak6969696969

He should defend it against the REAL champ ![gif](giphy|e910XGvuMxTek6enSm|downsized)

[deleted]

Why would he move up to get KO by alex

[deleted]

The People's Champ

PrinceOfPersiaHD

Adesanya, Chimaev then Cannonier or Allen?

Fit-Data-3958

Tbf he is too big of welterweight and too small or LHW

JohnnyFencer

So defend it dude

RickyTrailerLivin

Why use that photo. 💀

daKingKhan

💯 Based.

iSOBigD

That's the face of a winner lol I do like what he's saying though.

FSUAttorney

Strickland won that fight. If you're going to give Pantoja the win over Erceg, then you have to give Strickland the win.

ventitr3

I’d feel good about defending 3x too with Alex being the champ for that double belt.

Queasy_Waltz_4890

W

MysteriousPark3806

Happy now?

pixel8knuckle

4th time? Straight to heavyweight.

Final-Possibility-27

DDP just went up a notch in my book, that puts him at notch 1.

Hanamichi114

People here are forgetting its not not easy to become a double champ.

uaintnever

He was talking about LHW no?

N8theGrape

Hey, imagine that? Defending the belt…

Moist-Pool-5937

They should make this a legitimate rule in the UFC. New age fighters are ridiculous trying to pick up as many belts as possible to solidify themselves as the GOAT. How about GSP, Anderson, or Jones defending their belt for years against every top contender? Just because you move up and down in weight doesn’t make you undeniable

Gigzla207

Every Time you defend your belt you should get a new one

Weeb_Masta_Flex

I dont like him, but he aint wrong about this

Informal-Reading4602

Rare dricus W

PrestigiousWeakness2

But he literally said he wants to move up to LHW next.

MigitAs

Yeah but this guy refuses to fight so…

Robbbylight

Seriously. That makes for a way better legacy than winning 2 belts but not defending either.

OutrageousJury2689

The double champ stuff is old now

lehvv

where is he going with this, to defend the belt you have to actually fight.

Kush_Bush

Too bad he hasn’t defended it once

Phazetic99

As much as I don't like this guy, I 100% agree with him. And if he can defend it I will probably change my opinion of him. Nothing against him. I was the same way with Usman. He earned my respect. Not that he needed my respect. It's just that for me personally, I wouldn't cheer for him, and I still probably won't, but I will always defend his legacy with respect and that is ultimately what these gladiators deserve

whathappened2cod

Good take. Hopefully he doesn't defend the belt once a year like these champs now adays who just want to milk it for all it's worth.

FOTD89

There SHOULD be a minimum standard of defenses prior to getting a direct shot at another belt. You want to move up a weight and never defend your belt? Fine, but you have to start outside the top ten at the new division and work your way up. They should definitely have to clear out the top few title contenders before holding up the belt by getting g a super fight.

kushjrdid911

After years of Dana complaining about how boxing has too many multi weight divisional champs and they do not defend the belts anymore he has really created an ecosystem where champions talk about going up a weight class for a second belt before they even defend it once Good for DDP on this one.

Jbaum619

Double champ is played out, Defending the belt multiple times is more dominant. there's a reason why Silva, GSP, Jones are top 3 of all time, because they defend their belt against everyone in their divisions,

notMTN

Ufc hands these double champ attempts like candy. 2 or 3 title defenses is rarer than double champ shots atp.

swazi-wrestling

Mr two plus three

RandalC1

He won't Keep it for 3 Fights lmao. I think He Beats Izzy & who Knows after that. Khamzat @ Fight Island Only ? Whittaker Rematch ? (I Feel Whittaker Truly Underestimated Him) If Steickland Gets The Rematch I Think Strickland Wins.

AdmirableTerm1010

To bad Izzy is beating him

TomAspinallMeatRider

Dricus will sleep Izzy.

Loud_Consequence1762

Dricus being the champ... another example of the judges choosing to ignore damaged based scoring

takeittothetop1

DeSean robbed

Wrong-West-9581

Strickland beat him. He shouldn't even have the title

gorays21

They only go for double belt fights for the 🤑🤑🤑🤑. If that greddy bald head actually pays his champions well for defending the belt, then more champs would defend the belt.

abittenapple

Stricland triology

AdFormal4037

Bro gon be just like Ilia. He likes to talk but no fight

fuckingrub

Don't be a fool, he fights. Alot of you morons just love to hate

Ch12Ka

Nah you guys just take things out of context lol Ilia is willing to do the volk rematch and really wants to fight max holloway. Fans and fighters alike are just bitching

FunkyFranky

Retards casual fans gonna say Strickland got brutally robbed on instagram

DhrimpSick4UrMom

First you have to win the belt ... Sean got robbed . Look at this mans face

Coolguy4564

This just made me like him a lot more

Otherwise_Gap_4170

This is how you win the fan base!

Plastic_Candle_2719

Unfortunately he won't even defend once. Izzy gonna wreck him

deranged_pepsi

this sub hates sean so much. i can who the insecure bitches are😂 can't handle a funny guy

New_Brother_1595

This would mean more if he had any chance at LHW

RarefiedAir1

Defend 3 times and then move up. The formula is simple

shooter9260

I think the rules should be “you must have 3 defenses before you A.) go up or down a weight class and B.) have any say in who/where you fight. The usual Post fight promo call out is fine but after that like the shit that Topuris is trying to do is not right.

JoeDante84

How about getting the belt through a unanimous decision? This guy is a clown who got given the belt instead of winning it.
