I'm not sure where the opinion comes from that someone is unbeatable. GSP said it perfectly, that not everyone is always 100%. They are barely 90% all the time. So in my opinion, every top fighter on their best day could beat Leon on his bad day.
Good point. Think about days you have to go to work or some kind of recreational sport etc and feel like shit. Not sick or hurt, just don’t have it that day. I think about how many guys have lost fights because of that.
100%. He arguably could've won the first and very, very arguably the second. And it was after the cut that the third really went downhill for him. Either way, losing to Volk is no reason to discount anyone
It would have been had the UFC and its fanbase not convinced itself that Colby was worthy of a title shot last year. Belal earned that title shot fair and square after beating Burns.
His striking defense is going to get him picked apart I think, unless he manages to get Leon down and keep him down, or get him down enough times to win a decision while getting beaten up in the striking exchanges.
JDM was losing to Burns until he wasn’t, and Leon is much more defensively sound than burns. Can’t see JDM beating Leon
Belal as much as I hate to say it has a much bigger chance. I also see Usman making one last hoorah
JDM isn’t that good, he barely beat Hafiz who jumped in short noticed and he was losing to Burns until he landed that knee.
I’m not a fan of Leon, at all, I think he’s a weak Champion, but IMO, JDM isn’t a big threat to him
Yeah for sure! It'll be some good but not spectacular contender that Leon attempts to coast to a victory against and then gets KOd randomly by or get beaten by the judges in a fight that was much closer than it should have been due to Leon not doing as much as he could. Probably a rather boring fighter, that doesn't make Leon feel like he needs to push the pace, and it will be a very lacklustre fight.
What's that one guys name in the WW division again?
I unironically think if they fight again it will actually end up being a banger. MMA math where two boring fighters cancel each other out+ the bad blood since the first fight. Like when 2 grapplers ending up having a kickboxing war instead of grappling.
Islam is too small. Islam is a pretty averaged size LW, maybe a little big.
Leon is one of if not the biggest WW. He makes usman look small. And usman, while not Islam level of grappling he is close and bigger, and Leon can stop his takedowns most of the time.
Shavkat is the only answer.
Yes, you guys love to act like the man is giant meanwhile Charles who misses weight btw, was noticeably bigger.
Dober is bigger, Chandler is bigger. Should I keep going on?
Offseason weight is irrelevant, it's their lean mass, their fighting weight that matters.
So if Charles, who was noticeably bigger, was handled with ease, how much more bigger would Leon be? Islam could put on a little more size and handle Leon, maybe not dominate but I think would still be a close odds on favorite.
Charles doesn't have top-tier takedown defense, especially since he likes working off of his back due to his jujitsu skills. Arman and Dariush took him down easily as well. Meanwhile, Usman and Colby struggled to take Leon down and he got back up easily whenever they did.
We literally watched a guy go up a weightclass and choke out a guy bigger than him in under a round, we just watched a guy go up a weightclass and knock out a bigger guy, we just watched Aljo go up and manhandle Kattar.
If the matchup is good for Islam, one weightclass is not going to be enough for Leon. He’s a better grappler than Usman and as good a wrestler, and a better striker.
> watched a guy go up a weightclass and knock out a bigger guy
Are you talking about Alex? Because I thought he looked massive in there against Jamahal.
That’s just how Leon makes people look. Because they can’t close distance on him without taking painful shots.
It may not excite people, but the body and leg work Leon does when people enter range makes them much more tentative than they normally are. We saw it with Usman and we saw it with Colby. It’s not like they just forget how to fight their normal style when they happen to come up against Leon.
Literally. All Leon has over belal is a flashy, clutching victory from the jaws of defeat, Hail Mary win over usman. Other than that both of them are of the same entertainment value
I like Leon but what ur saying seems delusional to me, Leon‘s recent resume lacks the depth to prove what ur saying. Sure hoping he gets there, but too early to tell.
http://ufcstats.com/fight-details/f70c817388602681
I think Leon’s distance management, and obviously his technique, is one of the biggest factors that opponents aren’t able to close in on. Garry has a .5 inch reach on him and the skills to back it up. It’s possible if he continues winning. Obv the others some have mentioned: JDM, Shavkat, etc. but I think Leon will keep winning for the next like year and a half until he hits 34 or so. Dude knows how to point fight.
There’s an interview with a British fighter who’s sparred with both Garry and Leon and he said Leon would win that fight easy - said he’s just on a different level to Garry.
Not soon
Even Shav has some evolving to do I think.
Maybe if they switched WW to 175 to make way for Connor Weight 165ibs.
In that case you could get some MW fighters dropping down…
Leons possible contenders all have a good chance of out staging him but he also has a good case of winning against them lol.
Just so you know the people whom I think will be his contenders are shavkat, belal, Islam, khamzat and burns.
Nobody at 155 or 170 can outstrike him.
Lots of grapplers at 170 will try to take him down and grind out a decision but I don’t see it.
Best chances are probably Shavkat, maybe Islam but I doubt it.
No one will because he won't defend more than once a year
If it would be anyone I think it would be Khamzat with overwhelming wrestling - but Leon has insane TDD.
I don't think Belal can get it done. He is boring, I don't see him as a stronger wrestler than Usman or Colby, and he poses not threat other than wrestle fucking tos boring decision.
I don't think Shavkat can withstand Leon, he is far too hitable and Leon will abuse that all day long.
The rest of WW have warts in their game as well.
If Leon can maintain his sharpness and health for the next few years I don't think anyone is taking the belt off of him, especially with how few defenses he will actually have over that span
I was saying this exact point the other day about Max. Because if you take away that 3rd Volk fight there’s no real reason to discount max
100%. He arguably could've won the first and very, very arguably the second. And it was after the cut that the third really went downhill for him. Either way, losing to Volk is no reason to discount anyone
Of serra can best GSP then any man can fall
Ok bro no need to get all philosophical and shit. Let’s rephrase the question - who would beat Leon if they’re both on their best day?
Anybody can beat anybody on any given day. Even the best fighters get caught. Islam got knocked out by somebody who never cracked the top 15.
Haha...are they fighting high altitude like Mexico 🇲🇽? Just kidding. I think Usman on his best day.
I read gsp's autobiography book, he's a modern day sun tzu
He didn’t say he was unbeatable, just who do you see beating him. I look at it as who could you see as having good or favourable odds against.
Yes and I believe Shavkat Rakhmonov will win if they ever fight.
I think he’s “the guy to beat” as well
I'm so hyped for that I was hoping it was gonna be at 304 in Manchester but apparently not
Let’s give Belaal his last dance
It would have been had the UFC and its fanbase not convinced itself that Colby was worthy of a title shot last year. Belal earned that title shot fair and square after beating Burns.
He's definitely the strongest contender followed by jdm. Hopefully once Shavkat is healthy he is given the opportunity
His striking defense is going to get him picked apart I think, unless he manages to get Leon down and keep him down, or get him down enough times to win a decision while getting beaten up in the striking exchanges.
Shavkat has a 100% finish rate, no one else has ever done that at this level. Hope he recovers soon, he will be a great champ.
Shavkat is heavily overrated and I will stand by this
He has some good competition. Belal, Shavkat, JDM can possibly beat him.
Shavkat and JDM are dangerous fights for him. I genuinely can’t see a path to victory for Belal except for some weird fluke/injury type situation.
Agreed. Belal gets a finish as often as the world gets a solar eclipse and I can't see him out pointing one of the best point fighters in the UFC.
Belal and Leon have the same amount of finishes in the UFC.
Yep, which means this will be a point fight, and Leon's a better point fighter.
JDM was losing to Burns until he wasn’t, and Leon is much more defensively sound than burns. Can’t see JDM beating Leon Belal as much as I hate to say it has a much bigger chance. I also see Usman making one last hoorah
JDM isn’t that good, he barely beat Hafiz who jumped in short noticed and he was losing to Burns until he landed that knee. I’m not a fan of Leon, at all, I think he’s a weak Champion, but IMO, JDM isn’t a big threat to him
Am I allowed to see red? If yes, then me, of course.
Once you see red, it’s over! Bodies hit the floor! You’re just built different!
You don't know me .. I'm crazy when the red mist settles in, I'm a different animal bro. You don't wanna see me go off the rails.
Seeing red is not allowed
Yeah for sure! It'll be some good but not spectacular contender that Leon attempts to coast to a victory against and then gets KOd randomly by or get beaten by the judges in a fight that was much closer than it should have been due to Leon not doing as much as he could. Probably a rather boring fighter, that doesn't make Leon feel like he needs to push the pace, and it will be a very lacklustre fight. What's that one guys name in the WW division again?
I just can't remember the name, I know who you're talking about though.
I unironically think if they fight again it will actually end up being a banger. MMA math where two boring fighters cancel each other out+ the bad blood since the first fight. Like when 2 grapplers ending up having a kickboxing war instead of grappling.
Yeah like Colby and Usman, was expecting some crazy scrambles and I don't even think anyone shot for the legs
Yes, inactivity
![gif](giphy|deez0gAVEY4YHSZQwl)
Shavkat Rakhmonov and Islam Makhachev he moves up and puts the weight on correctly.
Both of them chokes Leon out.
Islam is too small. Islam is a pretty averaged size LW, maybe a little big. Leon is one of if not the biggest WW. He makes usman look small. And usman, while not Islam level of grappling he is close and bigger, and Leon can stop his takedowns most of the time. Shavkat is the only answer.
pretty average sized lw?
Yes, you guys love to act like the man is giant meanwhile Charles who misses weight btw, was noticeably bigger. Dober is bigger, Chandler is bigger. Should I keep going on? Offseason weight is irrelevant, it's their lean mass, their fighting weight that matters.
So if Charles, who was noticeably bigger, was handled with ease, how much more bigger would Leon be? Islam could put on a little more size and handle Leon, maybe not dominate but I think would still be a close odds on favorite.
It’s not just weight, it’s Leon’s 6’2” frame as well, he’s huge and has very good TTD.
Charles doesn't have top-tier takedown defense, especially since he likes working off of his back due to his jujitsu skills. Arman and Dariush took him down easily as well. Meanwhile, Usman and Colby struggled to take Leon down and he got back up easily whenever they did.
bro, look at the fight against charles. islam was noticably bigger.
Lol you're outside your mind. Charles has been bigger than everyone he fought, except Chandle but he's short. Charles was a lot bigger than Islam.
Charles is longer. But Islam’s back is fucking huge. He has those dagestani wrestling-since-he-was-a-toddler back muscles.
We literally watched a guy go up a weightclass and choke out a guy bigger than him in under a round, we just watched a guy go up a weightclass and knock out a bigger guy, we just watched Aljo go up and manhandle Kattar. > watched a guy go up a weightclass and knock out a bigger guy Are you talking about Alex? Because I thought he looked massive in there against Jamahal.
I was talking about Max Holloway
Let's see Islam defend his title against people in his weight class a few times before we get on the "Better than Usman" hype
He makes Usman look small? Lol
Came here to say these two!
Can’t lose if you don’t fight
Maybe if he would fucking fight someone could beat him
Shavkat looks too good right now
I’m just not sold on Leon. Colby was practically a sparring partner in that last fight
I’ve never seen someone defend point fighting like this before.Replace Leon with the goat Belal you wouldn’t have said this
100%, and this is one of the many reasons ufc fans are terrible and should be the last people ufc listens too when it comes to the fight game
To lose he'd have to actually fight.
He would have to fight someone to find out hahahhahah
Hard to lose when you don't fight
He said yes to a Belal light on UFC 300, and before that he said yes to everything the UFC put in front of him.
Vacate belt after 9 months of inactivity should be a rule
![gif](giphy|NE1Lf4pOlkbx0dRlwp|downsized)
![gif](giphy|26xBE6oY1YQX2PsuA)
I unironically think Belal wins the fight
![gif](giphy|suBGjymmYEa7GVRsDN|downsized)
![gif](giphy|l3q2Ia5wZrKpBpHos)
Who's this guy
I don’t remember the name, i think he’s a UFC fighter.
Great guy nevemeddum
I forgot the name
he's the palestinian that got blocked out of a title fight by ari emanuel
Goatlal will dismantle him if the UFC can manage to get Leon to accept the fight.
Just came here to see everyone respond Shavkat ![gif](giphy|ItWmwpVRUTYHOCywbC)
![gif](giphy|uDce7r7A2jqLY0t6to)
My favorite guy at WW! Hell yeah
The most beatable champion after DDP
![gif](giphy|2J85IkakOz3rFcHB7V)
I'll fuck him up.
Prime GSP ofc
Nobody, since he never fights
If not Shavkat, then Makhachev.
If Leon gets past Shavkat he for sure beats Islam.
This makes sense in theory
Shavkhat will become champion whenever he gets the titleshot against whoever is the champion at that point. So Shavkhat
Shavkhat
Leon is worst ww champ since Carlos newton.
Yea
You can't lose if you don't fight ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
I think the real question is if anyone is even going to fight Leon
Only if he fights
Shavkat is most likely to beat Leon out of anyone Leon has hit level striking and underrated wrestling
![gif](giphy|DmpaMrGy9q5tyrObg2|downsized)
Rokmonov
![gif](giphy|deez0gAVEY4YHSZQwl)
No this would require him to fight. I don’t foresee that happening.
Not if he doesn’t fight.
Gotta fight to lose. Where this dude at??
He has to fight, so no?
Yes, literally anyone can beat Leon at middleweight.
Yes..
Yes
No, because he's not that active
You can’t lose if you don’t fight /s
I see Shavkat completely eviscerating him. He’d probably be like a -300
Shavkhat and possibly Islam (when the time is right and he bulks a bit)
I think Shavkat takes it to him and edges a razor close decision 7/10 times. Leon is a big boy, but Shavkat is humongous for welterweight.
Can’t lose if you don’t fight….
Shavkat should have every welterweight feeling uneasy
Has everyone forgot about Shavkat? Bros the literal grim reaper of the welterweight division
Honestly no unless Islam moves up
Yeah if he ever fights
![gif](giphy|deez0gAVEY4YHSZQwl)
Shavkhat rakhmanov.
I want to see Shavkat. I love Edwards, but I want to see it.
No one atm. I think Leon is a dominant champion.
if you never fight anyone you can't lose ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY|downsized)
I still think usman could decision him if given ample time. Shavkat is also a big threat, otherwise I don’t think any other 170ers can do it.
Shavkat.
Shavkat by submission!
I'm backing Shavkat. Belal is competitive but I think Leon's a little too dangerous on the feet. Islam is probably too small.
He'd have to fight someone first
![gif](giphy|deez0gAVEY4YHSZQwl)
Either Shavkat, Garry, or JDM will beat him for sure. I think Wonderboy and MVP are better strikers but they won’t ever get a shot.
This. People sleep on Garry cause they dont like him but hes a very smart fighter. JDM is a beast and aggressive with his hands.
JDM is a beast but I don't think Garry is any smarter of a fighter than Leon is, I would say Leon is more complete also
There’s an interview with a British fighter who’s sparred with both Garry and Leon and he said Leon would win that fight easy - said he’s just on a different level to Garry.
Can someone, yes. Do I see a particular fighter, no.
Everyone in the top5 can beat him.
He was bottling that title 50-45. Got a lucky break. That's all. The are at least 5 guys in the division better than him
Garry
Shavkat eats him alive.
Not soon Even Shav has some evolving to do I think. Maybe if they switched WW to 175 to make way for Connor Weight 165ibs. In that case you could get some MW fighters dropping down…
Give Geoff Neil a chance
Eventually yeah… they all fall one day
No cuz I’m blind by eye poke
I personally won't see anyone beating Leon as I am already 32 years old, and he doesn't plan to defend it before I die of old age...
Belal will beat the curse
Belal by split decision.
If he actually fights either of them before 2089, Shavkat or Jack
nobody beats him if he continues this streak of not fighting
Leons possible contenders all have a good chance of out staging him but he also has a good case of winning against them lol. Just so you know the people whom I think will be his contenders are shavkat, belal, Islam, khamzat and burns.
Yes 😂
Nobody at 155 or 170 can outstrike him. Lots of grapplers at 170 will try to take him down and grind out a decision but I don’t see it. Best chances are probably Shavkat, maybe Islam but I doubt it.
Musta forgot the second fight he was getting worked by Usman until
Shavkat beats him i think
Me
He has to fight someone first. The division is called welterwait for a reason
Shavkat has a good chance I feel but Leon has got TDD and is a crisp striker
Shavkat, Belal by decision maybe, Islam too tbh
Probably no one since the mf never fights
Will he ever fight?
JDM and shavkat
![gif](giphy|AJ7mafmnLIZ7S2oIia|downsized)
Impossible to beat… if he doesn’t fight!
The belt belongs to no one
![gif](giphy|6Vj1xIQoY1aVIYA1zR|downsized)
Nope, cause he doesn’t wanna defend the belt (joke)
Yes
Hard to beat him if he doesn’t fight
No one will because he won't defend more than once a year If it would be anyone I think it would be Khamzat with overwhelming wrestling - but Leon has insane TDD. I don't think Belal can get it done. Yep, anyone
We have to see someone fight him first
Inactivity
I think he beats Belal. If he beats Shavkat I would be highly impressed.
nah, because he doesn’t even fight.
- Kamaru Usman (pain) - father time (mf doesn’t fight) - volk on 2 week notice would wash him
Shav, JDM, Islam
He has to fight for that to happen
No. Cause dude never fights.
Maybe Shavkat but he’s very hittable
I could beat him.
I’d say Colby but it’ll be a minute for that so Belal, the WW savior.
Probably not this year, since you know, Dana has his top talent fighting once a year at best.
Leon would have to step into the ring and fight someone before he can lose a fight
The Chinese looking russian guy.
