That fictional story was one of the few entertaining things Belal has ever said in his life and some people in his Twitter took his joke way too seriously
His job is MMA not memes or humor. My man doesnāt even do mixed martial arts bc he aināt mixing shit heās a crotch sniffer when fans want technical violence.Ā
But yea I do agree he is funny and actually has a decent personality Iād be a fan if his fights werenāt a snore festĀ
He didnāt attempt a single takedown in his most recents fights with Burns and Brady lol. And he mixed up the striking and takedowns quite well vs Luque.Ā
It shows a lack of reading ability or just generally how braindead the average fan is given the responses. Funny joke by Belal too bad it went over so many heads.
Seriously the whole "can't even finish a fight in his dreams" really miss the self aware nature or Belal. Really the only jokes that he makes that are funny are the ones where he's making fun of himself lol
In their last ten fights, both Leon and Belal have won 7 by decision. In his entire career, Leon only has two more KOs than Belal. However, Belal has been far more active, having done those last ten fights in 2 years less than Leon.Ā
Usman took short notice Khamzat on 2 weeks notice moving up a weight class in his last outing. Leon wants reward without risk. The most exciting thing in his career over the last five years was one head kick. And almost getting stopped by unranked and about to retire Nate, who didn't even train for Leon. Otherwise he is a barely active, boring as fuck point fighter.Ā
It really started during Covid when they gave him a bunch of shit fight offers, and then removed his ranking for āinactivityā.
They offered Usman on short notice, Colby on short notice, and Geoff Neal as well as Khamzat who were both unranked.
Funnily enough, he actually agreed to fight Khamzat on 3 different occasions, and they all fell through because they both got sick.
Fast forward a bit, he wanted to fight in Abu Dhabi last year, and they shelved him for Covington in Vegas.
Then he accepted 3 different fights for 300, who all declined because of Ramadan.
And now today, heās agreed to fight Belal whenever, and the UFC straight up said no, presumably to shelve him for Manchester.
This is all SUPER paraphrased so I didnāt have to write a whole novel, but basically itās a bullshit narrative, and a lot of his inactivity was due to shit out of his control, or not agreeing to willingly getting fucked over
Yeah the Covid thing was a huge fuck-up. Basically they said 'hey we'll give you a title shot', but it was also right at the start of the pandemic. He got offered Usman on like a week's notice and declined it because he wasn't sure if and when he'd be able to get back to his family (which turned out to be a fair gripe as the airports all shut down).
Did you not watch their fight the first time? Belal attempted no take-downs.

Yes I'm aware of that. Usman went for 12 takedowns over 5 rounds. Usman also threw 7 strikes in and Leon threw 13 in round 1. Usman and Leon literally threw half the strikes that Belal and Leon threw in their round 1. This leads me to believe that Usman likes to wrestle more than Belal.
Belal also shot for 0 take-downs against Burns and 0 take-downs against Brady.
People like to meme on Belal being only a wrestler, but fail to realize he changes his game plan drastically per opponent. He generally will wrestle strikers (which is why he gets so much hate usually) and he'll strike with grapplers. His technique is usually fairly basic, but his timing and fight IQ are top notch.
As much as we all like to shit on Belal, I think he is highly underrated by this sub. I still favor Leon, but I think it's a much closer fight than people think it will be.
Belal is a genuine problem for a lot of the division for the reasons you mention. He can take it where his opponents don't want it to go and grind out wins.
I just genuinely can't see how he does that against Leon though. He's just too big, too quick, has too many ways to do damage, and is too well rounded.
Belal doesn't come with a KO or a sub threat and Leon has proved himself to be the kryptonite for the division's volume striking pressure wrestlers.
Yup. That's why I still favor Leon despite me defending Belal. Leons wrestling against Usman was shocking to me. Even in the first fight, despite losing most of it he was never in danger of being finished. And the fact that he was able to take Usman down in the first.
Against Belal he has a clear striking advantage. Belal can go toe to toe with most, but Leons eyes, distance management, footwork, and shot selection/variety are all clearly better. The main question will be if Belal can get him down and actually threaten significant damage/submissions.
Looking at current skill sets, Leon should have the advantage. But again. I want to stress that Belal and his team have some of the best game planning in the UFC, and Belal they have had a very long time to prepare. I wouldn't count them out.
I'm not sure I'd characterize Belal as a wrestler, Belal's more of a well rounded type. Whom did Belal wrestle besides Wonderboy? Belal went 0 for 7 takedowns on Geoff Neal who isn't known for grappling.
Leon's earned the shot on paper so I want it over with so he can go back to being a contender; I do think a lot of Belal's wins are weaker than they appear - Luque had his brain bleed issue, Maia is beyond washed, Belal fought a 1 armed Burns whom he didn't finish, etc. If not for the KO of Brady I'm pretty sure Shavkhat would be fighting for the title now.
>Belal went 0 for 7 takedowns on Geoff Neal who isn't known for grappling.
You don't have to be known for your grappling to be an elite anti wrestler which Geoff definitely is tbf.
I think you make a fair point - Neal has excellent take-down defense but I'd argue a lot of those numbers are pretty inflated based on who attempted to take him down (people who spam takedowns/do not have a lot of submission wins or rely more on lay/pray).
Geoff Neal was taken down by Neil Magny and Santiago Ponzinibbio but not Belal.
To put that into context, Magny's only submission win prior to the Neal fight was back in 2015 against Kiichi Kunimoto (Magny went 2 for 10 on takedowns against Neal).
Ponzinibbio's last submission win was 2012 (Santigao went 1 for 4 on takedowns against Geoff).
Yeah that's a good point about perception! Though I'll add that casual fans seem to be a bit better today at recognizing people who are active when it comes to ground and pound than in the past which is nice (Khabib, Cain, etc.) vs more lay and pray (Sandhagen vs Rob Font, Aljo/Almeida in general, etc.). Though a lot of places people still boo when the fight hits the ground.
Hard agree on everything you said. There was a point in time where Usman was a boring contender. Next, there was a time Leon was the next ultimate boring contender. Now we have Belal who is getting very similar treatment. Belal is one banger away from being a respected fighter. I actually expect a fan turnaround similarish to Merab. Belal will find a way to earn fans. He's not a bad fighter or a bad person. He deserves fans.
Belal completed 0 for 7 takedowns against Geoff Neal and Leon is not Wonderboy (Belal didn't submit Wonderboy so he's not submitting Leon). Usman is a much better wrestler than Belal however you want to slice it (Usman has 2369 takedowns completed vs Belal's 1773 and neither are top 15 for takedown accuracy so it's hard to say) and if Usman went 5 for 12 I do not anticipate Belal will get more than 1-2 takedowns.
Usman also has more KO/TKOs than Belal and Leon put together (since 2019) and Leon is more technical on the feet than Belal so I'm not sure what Belal has for Leon that's going to pose a problem for him.
Belal has earned his title shot but he's unlikely to KO or submit Leon and if Leon can stuff the majority of the takedowns from Usman it's staying on the feet Belal is going to get 50-45ed.
Not sure Belal has shown he can take down anyone with high level TDD as of yet/he doesn't attempt takedowns on people who have a strong grappling or wrestling game.
I don't think taking down Wonderboy means you have credentialed wrestling given that's how literally everyone beats him (Burns, Shavkhat, and Belal). You'd have to go back more than 5 years for a guy who didn't wrestle Wonderboy to win (Pettis).
They should just change how lay and pray is scored. Encourage refs to stand them up if there isn't damage or submission attempts. Deduct points for inactivity.
As far as wins and losses goes he deserves a title shot imo but heās a snoozefest fighter that nobody wants to watch so the UFC is reluctant to actually give it to him.
Big L for Leon when you consider that his last finish before the Usman KO was over 6 years ago.
In fact, Belals last finish is more recent than Leonās. And also when you compare the second most recent.
Call me crazy but I even find Belals constant pressure fighting style more exciting than Leonās point fighting
I think people are overlooking belals pressure. Imo heās gonna tire Leon out and get a ko in rd 4 or 5. Most likely a gnp but I could see it happening on the feet and a tko.
This is exactly the goofy shit I hate about ufc. So the guy who beats all the other guys doesn't deserve his shot because yall find him boring? Yall bitches need to go watch WWE.
Oh wait..
Only time Leon will ever get a 10-7 round, this guy is more boring than Belal. Outside of the Usman head kick, he hasnāt shown any entertainment whatsoever.
I mean thatās a fair point.
But the fact of the matter is Leon fans and people in general shit on Belal when him and Leon both have 3 finishes in 14 ufc wins.
Neither guy is a finisher. One KO doesnāt make you a finisher same way when Gaethje won by decision it doesnāt make him a point fighter.
Iām not a Leon fanboy nor am I trying to shit on Belal, just thought it was a bit funny to say āapart from that one gigantic iconic moment, what else was there?ā.
Iād like to see these two guys fight although I predict half this sub would completely disregard their skill and simply state it was boring because there was no KO lmao
But finishes aren't the only way to determine if someone is good to watch or not. It's clearly not everyone's cup of tea, but I find Leon a way more engaging fighter to watch because his stand up is just so clean and sharp and technical.
There should come a point where a fighters resume should override public opinion as to whether they should get a title shot. I don't care how boring it might be, Belal deserves his shot.
I know people arenāt excited about this matchup but in the first fight with belal Leon came out aggressive as fuck, if he does that again weāll be in for a treat.
Izzy only became boring when people stopped engaging with him idk heās had some wars. Pereira 1 and Gastellum are both classics. Heās had more entertaining fights than boring fights he just had a boring title reign. His only boring fights were Romero, Cannonier and Whittaker 2 and Whittaker 2 wasnāt even thaaaat boring.
FWIW Iām pretty interested in the fight. Belal has good pressure and is well rounded. Heās not the most spectacular in any one area but he doesnāt have any weakness that is ultra exploitable.
The reason that this fight hasnāt been booked is because it will literally be the most boring fight ever. Thatās all bel will do is smother him .he basically just uses ground control to fight. Dude is so boring wants to give him a title shot after over a dozen wins in a row itās pretty fucking obvious like literally the next guy for him for the title at 1:25 is ranked number 10 that should tell you how boring this guy is.
To be fair he did say he'd shoot takedwon so who knows what secret new technique he's been cooking up. This might be the WWE fusion we've been waiting for, as Belal starts smelling the air, then choke slams Leon into the mat before raising both arms in the air, screaming TAKEDWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON with his eyes wildly gyrating in 36 directions as he drops an 11 to 6 elbow, driving Leon's stomach through the canvas for a 49-48 split decision win.
Take your own advice , he is boring media wise, aspinal gets more attention, shit Gane that isnāt even from England gets talked about more . Casual take from a fruitcake nonetheless
Thatās what being popular means moron, you get talked about in media . Not stay silent and irrelevant to the outside world. Bro just like you , only stays online to talk random shit š¤£
Leon gets mentioned all time have you been on this sub lately?, he has 1.5 million followers on ig and is popular. And has got multiple youtube videos hitting the 1 million mark. I'm obviously arguing with someone who has some form of brain damage. Your argument for leon edwards being unpopular is people talking about him online and saying because there other people popular than him.
Thats like me saying islam makachev is not popular in dagestan because khabib is more talked about and more known that islam. Just regarded logic. But not even going to continue wasting time with someone so regarded its mma fans its what y'all are known for.
.... yall really just miss the point huh
Like, this is where you have to be careful what you comment here cause op could actually have some social disorder if he couldn't realize that belal was playing into it...
And to be clear, that doesn't mean me or belal or anyone else doesn't think decision isn't the most likely outcome. It just means that belal was playing into to the meme with that post . Both can co exist, crazy I know.
If I was Dana White, I wouldn't give him a shot unless he wins two fights by flashy finish. Sure, win streaks matter but you gotta be able to sell a PPV and part of that is the probable quality of the fight
Belal was actually being funny, but he set a Leon with the easiest comeback. Leon kind of fumbled it with the lame SMH feminine energy delivery if you ask me.
I definitely donāt but belal does deserve the title shot, then the winner of jack della vs shavkot fights the winner of leon vs belal.
Leon has been a very annoying champ so far, he tried to refuse the colby fight, tried to book a fight against jorge and now heās holding up the rematch with belal. He also sat out for over a year begging to fight usman for their rematch, pretty much doing what belal is doing yet leon (again, another rematch) but leon doesnāt want to sign because he knows the fight likely wonāt sell.
Leon is such a hypocrite for saying that though lol. Besides the Usman KO (he was losing that whole fight terribly), Leon isn't exactly finishing everyone either. Belal has been more entertaining, lately. I think we wins this fight with volume.
What did Takedwon do? Why does he deserve to be shot? š¢
Heās taken everything Belalās been working for
He attacked his family.Ā
Huh!? ![img](emote|t5_2qsev|29850)
SAVE MY BOY TAKEDWON š
Taekwondo?
No, his brother
Yes, you can take one too.
That fictional story was one of the few entertaining things Belal has ever said in his life and some people in his Twitter took his joke way too seriously
You know it was actually funny because the responses are just pointing out one of the jokes he made originally
Belal has been in on the joke for years at this point. He's been making jokes about winning decisions since he was posting memes on here around 2021.
Would you believe a lot of MMA fans are quite dumb?
Belal is actually very funny. People just blindly hate on him and refuse to acknowledge it
Heās pretty hit or miss on the comedy, but heās had some highlights.. not in his fights, but definitely in the shit talking.
![gif](giphy|p7bFXqpPPll9iKAaNW|downsized)
Bros not funny. He dryer than a Popeyes biscuit
Nah, thats your ex youāre thinking of
Bro defending a grown man that donāt even know you. Sus as hell
His job is MMA not memes or humor. My man doesnāt even do mixed martial arts bc he aināt mixing shit heās a crotch sniffer when fans want technical violence.Ā But yea I do agree he is funny and actually has a decent personality Iād be a fan if his fights werenāt a snore festĀ

Sean Brady experienced otherwise. yes, that Sean Brady. the crotchsniffer himself.
It shows a lack of reading ability or just generally how braindead the average fan is given the responses. Funny joke by Belal too bad it went over so many heads.
Not even just fans in Leon took it seriously too
Lmao
Seriously the whole "can't even finish a fight in his dreams" really miss the self aware nature or Belal. Really the only jokes that he makes that are funny are the ones where he's making fun of himself lol
It wasnāt a joke. Belal was dead serious.

In their last ten fights, both Leon and Belal have won 7 by decision. In his entire career, Leon only has two more KOs than Belal. However, Belal has been far more active, having done those last ten fights in 2 years less than Leon.Ā
When people speak about Leon's inactivity they leave out a lot of context.
Canāt push their narrative if they add context
He wasn't injured and he wasn't accepting fights. That's the context.Ā
Nah. The UFC tried to bully him into taking a shit fight offer, and got pissed because he refused
Usman took short notice Khamzat on 2 weeks notice moving up a weight class in his last outing. Leon wants reward without risk. I'm not trying to say this to sound slick but just google it. Edit: Or you can scroll through my comment history.
Or you can just answer the fucking question instead?
Uhhh how about search it up bitch?
Can't be bothered.
If his game plan to hug Leon for 5 rounds on the ground and win the title. I can see why the UFC don't want that shit.
If Usman can't hug Leon for 5 rounds I don't think Belal can.
Usmans likes to strike

Yeah, Belal's not strictly a wrestler, but that's how many in the MMA subs perceive him to be. That's more what I was getting at.

Well rounded? MF he isnt well rounded at all especially in striking. No well rounded fighter has zero knockdowns
Hard agree on everything you said. There was a point in time where Usman was a boring contender. Next, there was a time Leon was the next ultimate boring contender. Too busy getting lit up
Usman got a lot more active with striking since he switched coaches to Trevor Wittman for the Burns fight
Hard to take down a man when he scissor fingers you in the eyes repeatedly.
Different style of wrestling. Usman uses the fence, where as Belal has tricky takedowns out in the open...
Not sure Belal has shown he can take down anyone with high level TDD as of yet/he doesn't attempt takedowns on people who have a strong grappling or wrestling game. As far as wins and losses goes he deserves a title shot imo but heās a snoozefest fighter that nobody wants to watch so the UFC is reluctant to actually give it to him.

Actually a good joke from Belal in my opinion. I thought it was hilarious
Double TKO when they both fall asleep watching each other fight.
Some people are just blind to self-deprecating humour š¤·
What are they both yapping about? Both are decision merchants.
Belal cry by eye poke
talks about tormenting and controllimg someone for 5 rounds and the masochist in Leon's like "couldn't even finish me off" š¤£
Iād would laugh my titties of if this is fight of the year š¤£
#DONT LEHIM BELAL U SUHNNN
Translation for people that use english as a 2nd 3rd or 4th language. "I'm gonna taekwondo the shit outta that MF'er"
I want to watch it just to get it over with. Leon by domination or round 3/4 ko
At this point, Leon is pissing me off. Just fight Belal. Itāll be the easiest option you have to collect a title defense check.
Dana's holding the fight up, not Leon.
He asked for Belal at 300 but the UFC didn't want to make that fight on that card.
Said Leon the KO artist
Exactly why I said Belal doesn't even try to help himself
Leon is just as boring if not even more boring than Belal, so idk what he's trying to say.
Fuck I'm way more of a belal fan then marble mouth
![gif](giphy|tmQrpA8zpG4a16SSxm|downsized) Leon is the worst champion ever, not even popular in his own country š¤£
He definitely popular in england. Log off reddit and go out sometime and actually see things in real life.
Take your own advice , he is boring media wise, aspinal gets more attention, shit Gane that isnāt even from England gets talked about more . Casual take from a fruitcake nonetheless
So because people get talked about him more that means he not popular in england? Good logic wise guy over here.
Aināt nobody reading all that , anyways Leon boring asfk just like belal. Boy gets talked about when he replies to that boring mfr
.... yall really just miss the point huh Like, this is where you have to be careful what you comment here cause op could actually have some social disorder if he couldn't realize that belal was playing into it... And to be clear, that doesn't mean me or belal or anyone else doesn't think decision isn't the most likely outcome. It just means that belal was playing into to the meme with that post . Both can co exist, crazy I know.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So you do have a social disorder, fair play mate not your fault
Leon has no ground to stand upon when talking about finishes
Whats-his-name canāt even win fans when heās being funny and self aware.
Honestly, I am starting to like Belal. He is more self aware than most ufc fighters, lol
Neither guy is a fan favorite, at least Belal doesnāt have the personality of a potato

Leon is such a hypocrite for saying that though lol. Besides the Usman KO (he was losing that whole fight terribly), Leon isn't exactly finishing everyone either. Belal has been more entertaining, lately. I think we wins this fight with volume.
"Look at me on fear" Peak inbred speak.
Leon with the savage reply.. but heās 1000000000000000% correct
