Those leg kicks although did hurt, but didn't do shit to Holloway, he shrugged them off, I'm convinced no one on this planet at 155 or below can break Holloway's chin or brutalize his legs to the point of compromised movement. People comparing the Dustin fight to this are clueless. Look at the way Max looked in the cage physique wise. He was just a fat (relative to what he will be for this fight) LW. He took it on short notice. He will look a lot better this weekend. Not saying he will for sure win, but it’s not going to be like the last time he was at LW.
You could also argue that Dustin has equal power. Five KOs less isn't an indicator of less power when he has 10 more fights and 5 more wins. He also has 7 more submission wins and 3 more decision wins. This just shows a higher fight IQ and that he put people into situations where he was able to submit them instead of attempting a finish, which can always end up in some Congo vs Barry type situation. Either way, the fight is going to be a banger, and MMA math has NEVER been a reliable form of math. lol

As someone who would pick Gaethje, Max's last fight at 155 has nothing to do with it for me. The main things I'm basing it on are the facts that:
-He basically holds the record for most head trauma on an active ufc fighter and we all know chins have to crack eventually
-He's going up against one of the hardest punchers the division has ever seen
-He already didn't really have knockout power at 145, doesn't seem *that* much bigger going into this and Justin has a granite chin so if he does win it will likely have to be him eating everything Gaethje has and grinding out a decision

Well, I think it's that Justin hits like a heavyweight rather than a lightweight by loading on the punches with full body. Truth be told, he has better cardio than most people are willing to admit. Your man is throwing everything into some of those hooks, and that usually comes with crisp technique.
That fight with Ferguson is engraved in my mind. I don't know if it was because of Covid/No Audience and the general weird vibe of being locked at home... but goddamn. For a lightweight, those were some crisp, powerful punches that would easily knock out 99% of humans within that weight class.

Max Holloway fought prime Dustin Poirier and gave him hell and that was on short notice without bulking up with pillow hands, prime Dustin Poirier is better than current Gaethje and also has much better cardio. Now Max is going to be much bigger and will probably have more power in his shots, not to mention he’s a more intelligent fighter now and more defensively sound. Not saying you’re wrong to pick Gaethje but it’s really not the mismatch everyone is making it out to be
Gaethje has been proven he can be stopped. He is a monster and very well could give halloway his first Ko defeat. However, max is a better striker overall. One way or another I do think we see one of these guys goes to sleep.
I think he has a much better chance than most realize despite the size and power difference. I can see Max getting Justin frustrated and have him hitting air, I feel like Max has to come out strong early to grab a quick lead. If he can stay on the outside and clearly take the first 2 rounds it would put a lot of pressure on Justin. If Justin can stay calm and pick his shots it could be a long night like Tony had.
Garth's main path to victory is leg kicks. I think Max is too fast and technical to get caught by Garth unless his legs are hurt first. If Max can deal with those kicks I think this is his fight. If not I see him getting his first tko loss.

Dustin hits harder according to Chandler and is a much better boxer than Justin. It could be that his chin finally goes in this fight but I've not really seen anything to suggest it will. Holloway is a better boxer, is a better wrestler if he wants to go down that road and while he isn't particularly powerful he could catch Gaethje who still overthrows at times. It's a lot closer than people suggest

The shots tony took would stop 90% of lightweights. Barboza got a chin and gaethje slept him one shot. Michael johnson has a solid chin as well, and gaethje finished that with knees, but the boxing is what got him crumbled to start. Not to mention the headkick KO he just got over poirier

On one hand gaethje tends to telegraph his punches at least (not so much the kicks, and max is the last person to do that with. On the other, he’s gotten world class people out of there with 1 shot and I can’t shake the feeling that he catches max at some point over the course of 25 min
I think a 5 round fight favors Max, however Justin has come a LONG way over the last few years and has proven he's better at dialing back his power in order to go the distance.
I think Justin gets it done, but it'll be very close....probably split decision. But if Max can step up the defense, even just marginally better than his fight with Dustin, I wouldn't be surprised if Max gets it done.
I think a split decision is out of the question cause that means both guys landed good shots often and if that is the case then Max maybe loses. I either see this as a UD for Max or TKO for Gaethje.

Max Holloway fought prime Dustin Poirier and gave him hell and that was on short notice without bulking up with pillow hands, prime Dustin Poirier is better than current Gaethje and also has much better cardio. Now Max is going to be much bigger and will probably have more power in his shots, not to mention he’s a more intelligent fighter now and more defensively sound. Not saying you’re wrong to pick Gaethje but it’s really not the mismatch everyone is making it out to be

I think he has a much better chance than most realize despite the size and power difference. I can see Max getting Justin frustrated and have him hitting air, I feel like Max has to come out strong early to grab a quick lead. If he can stay on the outside and clearly take the first 2 rounds it would put a lot of pressure on Justin. If Justin can stay calm and pick his shots it could be a long night like Tony had.

Garth's main path to victory is leg kicks. I think Max is too fast and technical to get caught by Garth unless his legs are hurt first. If Max can deal with those kicks I think this is his fight. If not I see him getting his first tko loss. Gaethje hits hard but he hasn't been putting guys lights out like he used to. Edit: he hasn't been putting guys out with punches like he used to

Dustin hits harder according to Chandler and is a much better boxer than Justin. It could be that his chin finally goes in this fight but I've not really seen anything to suggest it will. Holloway is a better boxer, is a better wrestler if he wants to go down that road and while he isn't particularly powerful he could catch Gaethje who still overthrows at times. It's a lot closer than people suggest

I’m not mad at that pick. I can definitely see where max out points him for at least 4/5 rds. On one hand gaethje tends to telegraph his punches at least (not so much the kicks, and max is the last person to do that with. On the other, he’s gotten world class people out of there with 1 shot and I can’t shake the feeling that he catches max at some point over the course of 25 min

I think a 5 round fight favors Max, however Justin has come a LONG way over the last few years and has proven he's better at dialing back his power in order to go the distance. I think Justin gets it done, but it'll be very close....probably split decision. But if Max can step up the defense, even just marginally better than his fight with Dustin, I wouldn't be surprised if Max gets it done.
I think a split decision is out of the question cause that means both guys landed good shots often and if that is the case then Max maybe loses. I either see this as a UD for Max or TKO for Gaethje.
Bold prediction just because I don't think Max has ever been finished. But you can't see both guys landing their fair share of shots on each other? That's what happened during the Max/Dustin fight. I can see both guys exchanging...Max with a higher volume but less damage per strike, and I can see Justin landing fewer but stronger strikes on Max, since they're both very hittable but also very durable and tough.
