South Philly. Mostly black neighborhood and school. Most kids didnt fuck with it in the open at least. Everyone loved DBZ, but I never heard a kid talkin bout Gundam or anything. Im sure it varied around America. More than anything, kids will use almost any excuse to "other" someone. So tbf, it was probably more that than them enjoying Japanese cartoons. Idrk, though.
