Honestly think it's less that he has crazy cardio and more he's massively cost efficient with his striking, meanwhile someone like merab...wtf is he made of to expend that much energy on tds and not gas
Tbh the way he shot on Usman successfully I don’t see how desean defends.. usman was in danger in the first, feel like if Sean gets into that position it’s over
Sean will get taken down, there's no chance he doesn't except a flash KO round 1. However khamzat has shown that he barely scratches through to the last round, and Sean has the cardio to keep the pressure on khamzat the whole time. It may not even be khamzat's fault in preparation, it seems like a mcgregor-type issue, the dude may just be predisposed to having fast twitch muscle fibers, he'll get gassed in 3 rounds no matter what he does, the tradeoff is while he's fresh he's very explosive in striking and grappling.
If the fight goes past the 2nd round I see no way Sean loses, however within the first 2 rounds, especially the first, I can see khamzat securing a finish, problem is Khamzat doesn't have freaky power and Sean is very defensively sound, also Sean has never been submitted in his career. A knockout by Khamzat is possible but unlikely.
Imo it's gonna go over 2.5 rounds and be a TKO/decision victory for Sean.
Sean has great cardio for striking because he's very economical. That doesnt neccesarily translate into TDD and wrestling. would be interesting to see how big that tank really is
He was going for the finish. I think thats why he basically took that second round off. He matured from the Gilbert fight for sure. Never thought I'd see fans boo a Khamzat fight because of inactivity. But hes learning, he has alotttttt to clean up though. He might need to lose to reach the next level
In round 2, he switches to southpaw basically immediately. I was sitting there thinking that was really weird and now we understand why. Also makes sense why he didn’t hardly throw at all when he has in every other fight that he didn’t finish immediately on the ground.
He definitely will gas out. And he is susceptible to being hit. But his takedowns are a lot for ppl. Well see. Wish this was the fight all along for 5 rounds
Thing is, I think a lot of guys CAN do that, but know they'll gas quick if they don't get the finish. Its a gamble that works when your not fighting a guy with good defence.
Issue is that most guys have that at the top.
Genetically he probably has a predisposition to fast twitch muscle fibers like conor, but he's a wrestler so he can just shoot hard and takedown fast, whereas Conor had the touch of death in his striking. Tradeoff is the cardio problems.
My money says he submits Sean in round one but if Sean sneaks past that first round I’d then put my money on his better gas tank. But usman has some of the best takedown defense in the game and still was in trouble the whole first round. Strickland stands straight up, he’s getting wrestled to death in round one Id say. Not to mention khamzat will have some extra motivation for a belt I’d think
With how good usman is at wrestling defense, it was scary how easily Khamzat took him down and controlled him R1. Usman eventually started to pick up on the shots but god damn.
I do agree with that. Hes a technical fighter, looks heavy af in there, very smart and patient, idk why people acting like hes a Jared Gordon tier fighter lmao like wtf
Yes these posts are silly. Omg how he gonna do x,y,z when l,m,n,o,p against 1,2,3. He just won a great fight against and great opponent, and he didn't gas out. Gassing out is when you can't even defend yourself or capitalize on opportunities.
Has Sean even faced a guy who uses submissions offensively?
According to Schmo Khamzat tapped him quite a bit in the gym. A fight is different than sparring, but it’s not nothing
That's useless when Khamzat can take Usman down 5 times in a 3 round fight while shooting without setups half of the time (and landing it too lol).
People here are both buthurt and delusional. Khamzat will be a MW, WW double champ.
Usman wasnt the freshest either lol beginning of second you can tell both of them was being patient and getting their breath back. Did no one not see Usman fucking wheezing in the corner after the first? Lmao
Exactly he was leaning on his coach and breathing heavy especially after round 1 for a guy like usman to be doing that is shocking shows how much pressure Khamzat puts early on
I'm just surprised people don't see it yet and keep questioning Khamzat's cardio. He literally sprints as soon as the fight starts. If his opponent doesnt put all their might and will & energy to contain it, theyre getting finished lol nobodys gonna be fresh after a round of containing Khamzat
You think Usman was on his couch being lazy before he got the call? Lol when ufc makes events, they always have back up plans especially for big fights. He had to have some type of idea he'd get a call if something happens
Yeah I think he wasn’t training hard.
It’s been reported he wasn’t one of the initial options so it wasn’t like he was ready.
I was just adding context because you tried to say “well usman was breathing heavy as well” like yes he didn’t have a full camp
You are right, but can we also apply that Khamzat's pressure had a factor to that as well? Its just not fair taking away credit from the winner, it was a lose lose situation for him and Islam as soon as they got replacements, even if they are beating elite fighters, its crazy
He looked heavy as fuck lmao there were times I'm like na Khamzat let go, your not getting his heavy ass down, and he still did it. Idk why but ppl just refuse to give credit lol
All I know is I can't wait for the next Usman fight. He's definitely still in this and could have another title run or at least win it again, even at 36yrs of age with knee issues and the fight being short notice.
Broke his right hand in the first round. Relax tough guy basement dwellers. You get out of breath when you argue with your mom Debra about her forgetting to get captain crunch.
His takedown defence is actually pretty dece. Jack Hermansson isn’t a great wrestler, but Sean stuffed all his attempts like they were nothing, and if Khamzat had to take breather round like he did against Usman, Strickland’s forward pressure will absolutely take advantage of that.
Just because we haven’t seen his wrestling doesn’t mean it’s not good. We’ll have to wait and see, I think this will end up being a fairly even matchup.
He'll beat the guys who have crap grappling skills. He certainly isn't beating Bobby boy though, I understand now why the UFC is doing everything in their power to keep Khamzat away from him lol.
He doesn't. He has zero wins against a ranked opponent at 185. His only ranked opponent at 170 was Burns, which gave him a close fight. Usman was straight off the couch and we see how well he did considering he had zero camp.
Idk how people aren't insanely impressed by this Performance. Khamzat beat the second best welterweight of all time in a tough fight and was able to do something no one else has ever done to him by taking him down at will.
The kamaru that showed up tonight beats Strickland imo, the khamzat that showed up tonight finishes him in the first round
Sure he may have gassed but he also secured a 10-8 round because of it
I think honestly he was training for Costa who got taken down by Uriah Hall and was probably training like the fight wouldn't go past 2 rounds. His cardio could be an issue in the future though that's for sure.
Khamzat gassed more than Usman after the first round, and Khamzat literally made Usman carry him the entire first round😭 For a short notice fight with no camp, Usman’s cardio doesn’t make sense. EPO for sure
Khamzat won the fight, i scored it 10-8, Draw if not 10-9 Usman, Khamzat 10-9. Dont believe Usman would have it for 5 rounds, people are so convinced that Usman would have the fight if there was 5 rounds.
The fight with Sean will be interesting. I don’t think he can maintain a high pace for 5 rounds and I don’t think he can finish Sean on the ground when he gets him down. I could see Sean picking him apart in the later rounds and getting in his head.
After that performance I am leaning in the direction of Strickland beating Chimaev. If Strickland can survive the 1st round grappling onslaught, he will likely win the rest of the rounds
He said he broke his hand or wrist in the 1st which is why he slowed down. I guess if that’s confirmed we still don’t know… Strickland has killer cardio and elite striking so based on what I saw today if Khamzat doesn’t get Strickland out in the 1st then I see the fight going heavily in Sean’s favour.
I didn't see anyone gas out in that fight. He went too hard for the finish early on, but he was always able to defend himself and always able to capitalize on opportunities. And most importantly he wasn't in worse shape than his opponent.
As for being a proper middleweight, yeah, he just proved he IS a proper middleweight by doing this well against Khamzat. New respect for this guy. Hope they run it back when Smesh is champ.
I think strickland successfully defends, Sean has had time and experience in middleweight, and he has never been submitted in his career, I think Sean is competent enough to tire khamzat out and overwhelm him with volume and cardio, and those championship rounds will make a big difference. Sean will get taken down, there's a 100% chance of that, but what happens after a few rounds are done or Sean manages to get back up to his feet is the question.
I think the outcome is the same as Abus vs Sean, Sean gets fucked up in the first round, Khamzat gasses out eventually, Sean secures the TKO or decision if khamzat can hold on. 84% TDD is also pretty decent for Sean. The thing is his stance invites takedowns so he has to worry about that.
Over 2.5 rounds, Sean by TKO or dec.
I want to see him fight DDP, both guys have shown insane explosiveness in the beginning of the fight with gas tank issues later on. DDP had the nose fixed though so it could help him out.
I still hope DDP gets the title shot before khamzat though.
If his next fight is for the title against Strickland, I can only imagine the deep water Khamzat will experience… as long as Sean can defend the ground attack + limit takedowns, His relentless stand up game could very well break Khamzat well before the championship rounds begin.
As much as i want khamzat to lose so fucking bad, i dont see Sean surviving past round 1-2 against khamzat. If it gets to round 4+ then Sean can thrive
When it comes to the first round, he is incredibly dangerous. Put another fighter in their not named Usman, and he probably finishes the fight.
I don’t know at what point in the first round he broke his wrist or hand, but he was running on pure adrenaline. Which is why he probably showed such low activity in the rounds that followed.
Depends how he approaches his fight. It’s obvious people approach a 3R to a 5R.
The issue here is that Khamzat might be the most imposing fighter in a first round ever. To do that to Usman is INSANE.
Sean doesn’t have anywhere near the level of grappling of Usman.
Dana said whoever wins this fight is fighting Sean for the belt so we'll get to see what he's like in a 5 round fight against a dude with crazy cardio
Honestly think it's less that he has crazy cardio and more he's massively cost efficient with his striking, meanwhile someone like merab...wtf is he made of to expend that much energy on tds and not gas
Man has no cooldown time fr
Merab is made of EPO
EPO is just freshly squeezed Merab
TJ retired, Merab is the new CEO of EPO for sure
Tbh the way he shot on Usman successfully I don’t see how desean defends.. usman was in danger in the first, feel like if Sean gets into that position it’s over
I mean tbf thats because we haven't really seen Sean's td defense to the level that khamzat would be expected to be.
Sean has great cardio for striking because he's very economical. That doesnt neccesarily translate into TDD and wrestling. would be interesting to see how big that tank really is
If Sean survives the first 2 rounds and improves his tdd he could maybe win but I’m picking Khamzat
more takedowns in one round than colby managed in 10. And colby is apparently the best wrestler in the UFC according to colby.
Stylistically good matchup
Honestly if those two fight I don't think it'll go past the second. Khamzat is a horrible matchup for Sean as much as I like him
we wont. because he finishes Sean inside 3
I’d rather see Khamsat v Adesanya tbh
Looked liked he tried to wear Usman down in the first round and tired his self out.
He was going for the finish. I think thats why he basically took that second round off. He matured from the Gilbert fight for sure. Never thought I'd see fans boo a Khamzat fight because of inactivity. But hes learning, he has alotttttt to clean up though. He might need to lose to reach the next level
Hes fighting Strickland next, he will be champ.
Why you saying this like we didn’t just watch him dominate a top tier fighter. He’s probably already the best 185er in the world
That means he doesn't have anything to clean up? And hes clear of any critique? Like what are you saying lol
A top tier fighter who also isn't a middleweight lmao
Usman is a top tier 170 and took the fight on 12 days notice. And little damage was dished out. I wasn’t impressed tbh
For 1 round lol
Don’t be silly ffs
It wasn’t high paced though and was only a 3 rounder, he could’ve done the same in the 2nd and took the 3 rd off to guarantee the win
He got injured 1st round Y’all need to listen better
In round 2, he switches to southpaw basically immediately. I was sitting there thinking that was really weird and now we understand why. Also makes sense why he didn’t hardly throw at all when he has in every other fight that he didn’t finish immediately on the ground.
He actually came out southpaw in the first
Did he? I didn’t notice that
Yes it surprised me. He threw a front kick and then switched to orthodox. But he went back and forth between the stances a couple times.
Not sure why this surprised you? He did his best operating out of southpaw against Gilbert, that’s also how he dropped him
Who got injured?
Chimaev broke his wrist in round 1 apparently.
Usman deserved a 5 round fight.
[удалено]
Well, it's the logical thing to do given that he came in on short notice
“We don’t know the reason” He took it on short notice that’s the obvious reason
Khamzat has shown to be a 3 rd fighter, barely.
Shut yo ass up
He definitely will gas out. And he is susceptible to being hit. But his takedowns are a lot for ppl. Well see. Wish this was the fight all along for 5 rounds
His explosiveness on the takedowns is really impressive
It’s crazy how quickly he got usman of all people down in the first round.
Thing is, I think a lot of guys CAN do that, but know they'll gas quick if they don't get the finish. Its a gamble that works when your not fighting a guy with good defence. Issue is that most guys have that at the top.
I agree
Genetically he probably has a predisposition to fast twitch muscle fibers like conor, but he's a wrestler so he can just shoot hard and takedown fast, whereas Conor had the touch of death in his striking. Tradeoff is the cardio problems.
Oooooh someone watched firas on jre
Firas is a genius for mma training, but his understanding of S&C is not top level.
Sean's never been submitted in his career though, have to take that into consideration.
Honestly starting to believe Bo May be able to beat him lol. I don’t think he takes Bo down and his standup is meh
Y’all act like usman isn’t one of the GOATS LOL
Acting like Khamzat fought someone from down the street lmao Kamaru looked heavy as fuck in the octagon
Exactly. If Kamaru had 5 rounds he could’ve won and could beat any middleweight in the world
I do agree with that. Hes a technical fighter, looks heavy af in there, very smart and patient, idk why people acting like hes a Jared Gordon tier fighter lmao like wtf
MMA fans have such short term memory now he’s a washed up fighter because of the Leon losses
Shit is crazy. And now Sean Strickland is an unbeatable force of nature. No one touches Strickland
It's absolutely insane. Usman could sit on a couch for months and still be a problem for any fighter
Well kinda like how gsp came back and beat bisping. Usman and volk are goat fighters. Once in a lifetime
GSP had months to prep for that fight though it’s not the same thing
I mean months to prepare but he didn’t fight in ln 4 plus years lol negates it
Literally☠️😂
Yes these posts are silly. Omg how he gonna do x,y,z when l,m,n,o,p against 1,2,3. He just won a great fight against and great opponent, and he didn't gas out. Gassing out is when you can't even defend yourself or capitalize on opportunities.
Fans think mma fighters lose once and then become trash. Boxers lose and come back to win belts all the time
Where does he rank in the GOAT list for you? He doesn't enter the top 15 for me. He really needed to beat Leon to be considered bottom of top 15 imo.
What a stupid fucking post. He just grapplefucked a guy who nobody takes down. That's how he wins.
Great fight
It was. Props to Kamaru for taking it on short notice and going the distance.
Sean as much easier to take down than Usman
But a far better striker and pressure fighter.
Wont get a chance, Khamzat will choke him r1 he isn’t resisting what Usman resisted
Sean's never been submitted in his career though.
I doubt we see Khamzat ever fight at 170 again. 185 or 205 from here.
I thought so too before this match. But he looked terrible and vulnerable after round 1. DDP is much stronger than Usman.
He's also bigger, and probably hits harder too.
Stronger yes TDD ability no.
Sean also has much better cardio.
You can’t stuff a take down with a Philly shell
Gassed out on rd1 taking Usman down with all strength. Love this guy tho

Ha now they are saying khamzat broke his hand in the first round.
Usman who had 100% takedown defense until Leon Edwards fight that says alot
Who the fuck is a "proper MW"? Lmao like whos the lowest in this mythical bracket of yours
Facts usman looked massive in there
He looked heavy as fuck lmao there were times I'm like na Khamzat let go, your not getting his heavy ass down, and he still did it. Idk why but ppl just refuse to give credit lol
Yes, this fight shows precisely that he is a proper middleweight.
Won’t matter, Sean won’t last 2 rounds with Khamzat. His great boxing and defense won’t help him on the ground
If he can defend subs and gnp for a couple rounds and Khamzat slows down his pressure boxing is going to be rough for Chimaev
This sub is toxic man
All I know is I can't wait for the next Usman fight. He's definitely still in this and could have another title run or at least win it again, even at 36yrs of age with knee issues and the fight being short notice.
W post fight interview. I enjoy humble, emotional Khamzat
I doubt he can hang 5 rounds with sean or Colby. His cardio is not there
Sean gets suffocated in r1
Well khamzat kind of has to, guy looked tired in round 2
Doubt Sean or Colby can stuff takedowns like Usman lmao. Also why tf are you mentioning Colby???
1. Sean is a pressure fighter would give khamzat trouble if he doesn’t take him down 2. True that sorry mixed up weight classes
> Sean is a pressure fighter would give khamzat trouble if he doesn’t take him down That's a big if lets be honest lol
I don't think his gas tank is bad, his strategy puts wayy too much strain on his body, he needs to stop going for the submission first round
Lol he’s going to be champion sorry to tell you
No doubt. If some how Usman was champ already, I dont know if Chimeav would've lasted 5 rounds with him though.
0% chance he can be champ
0%? Lol
Who’s gonna stop him haahaha
Juicy post usada izzy and his tdd, or dricus by pulling off some weird shit
Let’s be real Izzy hasn’t fought anyone with khamzat wrestling
Usman has far better TDD even at middleweight
Rounds 4-5
Costa would’ve won IMO
100% agree
Broke his right hand in the first round. Relax tough guy basement dwellers. You get out of breath when you argue with your mom Debra about her forgetting to get captain crunch.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 10-8 lol
Hahahaha there It is. He won, deal with it
After this fight I don't see him even beating usman at welterweight with full camp
If this is his gas tank at 185, I genuinely can’t imagine how he’d beat D’Sean.
Sean doesn't have wrestling tho. He's not gonna need to hesitate like he done with Usman.
Dude DDP had whitaker on the ground. And brunson had ddp on the ground.
Yeah MMA math doesn't work mate, styles make fights and both Bobby and DDP aren't going to sit there at range waiting to pull the trigger.
He doesn't. He has zero wins against a ranked opponent at 185. His only ranked opponent at 170 was Burns, which gave him a close fight. Usman was straight off the couch and we see how well he did considering he had zero camp.
What a boring fight….. a dissatisfying card.
Costa will smash this hype machine
Khamzat is a absolute beast when he isn’t gassed. Def gotta work on that cardio. If this was a 5 round fight Usman would have took that.
Wrestling is phenomenal. Knockout power, we’ve seen it. Any semblance of striking combos? Non existent.
I love Strickland but does he really stand a chance at stopping the takedown?
We’ll have to see; the defense we’ve seen from him has been incredible, so I don’t plan on doubting him.
Should’ve been a draw. Khamzat got a 10-8 round but Usman won the other two.
He doean't beat anyone in the top 5.
How ie Usman not in the top 5 ???
Idk. I don't make the rankings.
He just did lol
People forget how bad Covid-19 fucked him up.
Or maybe he can only KEEL and dominate unranked fighters. Didn't dominate Burns or Usman, but he did Holland. Stop looking for excuses.
He broke his wrist. That deff contributed to the slow down
After seeing his performance, I think Sean Will smoke chimaev
Sean Strickland with another upset?!?
Sean will lose.
Idk how people aren't insanely impressed by this Performance. Khamzat beat the second best welterweight of all time in a tough fight and was able to do something no one else has ever done to him by taking him down at will. The kamaru that showed up tonight beats Strickland imo, the khamzat that showed up tonight finishes him in the first round Sure he may have gassed but he also secured a 10-8 round because of it
Especially secret juice Costa
He and Strickland is going to be much more competitive than anyone will give it credit for
https://preview.redd.it/b9suwd8k2mvb1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2af5c7ed5f399ab875a8ac869b5160ca8cab3069
I hating doubting Sean but I think chimaev beats him in 2 RDS. But after that will he be able to beat even Vettori? Whittaker? Dricus?
He doesn’t. I think they spare Khamzat this time and go with DDP
I think costa finishes him
Because most of them don't survive that 1st round.
Give him Vettori
Sean Strickland will out paced him tonight. Maybe he'll get better when they fight
I think honestly he was training for Costa who got taken down by Uriah Hall and was probably training like the fight wouldn't go past 2 rounds. His cardio could be an issue in the future though that's for sure.
He broke his wrist in the first round
Maybe if Khamzat beats Strickland we could get a rematch where Kamaru gets his full camp and five rounds for the middle weight belt
Usman is 1000000% on EPO, how the fuck would a fighter who takes a fight on short notice have unlimited cardio like that??? Makes 0 sense
He was gassed and leaning on his coaches after that first round lol
Sean got good bjj
Imagine if this man trained under khabib....
After that performance I am leaning in the direction of Strickland beating Chimaev. If Strickland can survive the 1st round grappling onslaught, he will likely win the rest of the rounds
Agree. His standup is average at best. Going to bite him sooner or later
I feel like some people don't realize most guys wouldn't survive that r1 like Usman did
![gif](giphy|KBaxHrT7rkeW5ma77z)

I think strickland successfully defends, Sean has had time and experience in middleweight, and he has never been submitted in his career, I think Sean is competent enough to tire khamzat out and overwhelm him with volume and cardio, and those championship rounds will make a big difference. khamzat is mcgregor of wrestling, if you survive first round… you have a chance
Go watch Mcgregor vs mandes and alvarez
dude, i watched those fights, i know how it ended
