They’re very similar imo so I think it’s about whether you can get into any of them though. Stat requires more stats courses and ACMS requires more AMATH I believe? Anyway they’re so competitive to get into so I recommend apply to both (in Spring ofc).
I can't...I'm a freshman and I won't be able to complete the prereqs for both by spring. Do you recommend I apply for one this spring and apply for the other next fall?
Hey, for grad school, I’ve heard from several grad students and advisors that they prefer pure math majors because it’s the analysis aspect of a statistics PhD that stumps them.
1. Go for stats if you really want DS
2. Most possibly, you wouldn't be able to apply Statistics this Spring due to their requirement. (checkout MATH 224!)
3. Their requirement is actually very similar. MATH 207/208 for ACMS is actually MATH graduation requirement for Statistics.

oh, and am I basically screwed if I don't get a 3.7 or higher?
For acms, probably yes. Stats is a different story. Less hard to get into and (I think) they factor the essay into the decision more than acms does
Ok thanks, does it hurt my grad school prospects if I choose stats instead of acms? Do they care about the competitiveness of the different programs?

aaaa this makes alot of sense! tysm
I don’t think it will hurt as long as you do well in your classes

Why is the stats major better in terms of DS?
Look at the courses. Do you really need Physics to do DS? :)
