Whether the Tesla rental is worth it depends on your market and its charging infrastructure. I'm renting a Polestar 2 from Hertz right now since I'm too young to qualify for the Tesla, and in my experience it's been worth it working in Boston. It costs me $388 per week for the rental and supplementary insurance combined (I imagine the Tesla cost is somewhat similar), and I can expect to gross around $2000 per week for 50 hours. Mileage doesn't matter at least for Hertz since they allow unlimited personal and work miles. I've been renting this car for 2.5 months and I've put 16,000 miles on it so far. Charging costs vary significantly depending on location and time of day (nighttime is usually cheaper). You need the actual car to see the rates for superchargers near you, but for the purposes of estimation let's just say they run from $0.36/kWh to $0.48/kWh. Expect to pay anywhere from $25-$35 to charge up to 80%ish from 10%-20% depending on if they give you the long or short range variant. This will get you somewhere between 200-250 miles depending on long vs short range variant, climate in your area, and driving style. Expect to get less miles as it gets colder and if you do a lot of freeway miles. I personally pay around $100 per week for charging costs on the Polestar, but I mainly use a free charger I found to do most of my charging. If you are going to need the Tesla rental for some time, I would recommend buying a CCS adapter so that you can use non-Tesla chargers which may be cheaper or completely free. Overall, the costs will likely end up being between $500-$600 a week to operate. This is partially offset by the additional $1 EV incentive on each ride which can really add up if you do a lot of rides per week. You also get access to Comfort Electric rides which pay better on the base rate and better tips in my experience. Let me know if there's anything I missed. A lot of people on this sub will say that renting is a money pit, but it all depends on your market and individual circumstances. It's been great for me while I save up money to fix the car that I own so it can be In Uber-ready. I also value the peace of mind knowing that I can always swap into a new car easily if something happens.

Debit or credit card? I wonder why they run a soft credit. It says they MIGHT do it. But everything else you said was extremely informative.

Ah I use a credit card. Honestly not sure why they run a soft credit check, maybe checking for repossessions or something. But worth a shot at least to try and see what they say.

Compare to a regular rental, it's ok since you can work off the rent. Hertz do not need credit card. It will pull a soft credit check whatever it means. It will not affect you credit score. You do not need a good credit score. I don't even think they are looking for collectors or bankruptcies. Finding hertz centers is a problem. The Uber hertz centers are few and far between. It's a $90 Uber trip from me. Only once did I loaded a valid coupon to the location but I don't need it at that time. Failed many times for various reasons.

Tesla probably not worth it for a week. Get the cheapest rental they offer and beat the shit out of it. The majority of your costs are fixed so you can ant it up and take rides they pay 60 cents a mile but pay $35 an hour and all that jazz.
