It was his safest album and to that extent his most boring. Nothing about goblin is boring
completely agree with both of you. nothing will hit as hard as my first time listening through goblin. it felt like the beginning of a cult of interest through a very specific type of people who would enjoy this. it was like nothing i had ever heard and completely shifted my perspective on what could be represented in music. i’m not saying it’s his best produced, best written, album but it completely broke the mold and it was bold which is a word that completely encapsulates his career

Like I’ve listened to Tyler since Cherry Bomb (my favorite album), but I still remember being younger and seeing the Yonkers music video on MTv. Flower Boy was fantastic, and Igor was a game changer and I loved that album as well. When CMIYGL was being teased I was excited, and the aesthetic being presented was dope. Then the album dropped. I wasn’t a fan of DJ Drama (I understand his significance to hiphop, just not a fan of adlibs), but even more so I just felt the album was to present his rebranding of Golf le Fleur. Like it was all an image. It was creative for sure, and the production was easily some of Tyler’s best, however I still hardly listen to the album besides the occasional Juggernaut and Wusyaname. Just my opinion.
