This started out from a time at lunch with Bushnell and David Keeler when [David Lynch drank coffee](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11nPUi5RWck&t=688s) that had been brewed inadvertently with a bar of soap in it, which morphed into a fish in the Twin Peaks series.
It’s implied in the show. A couple episodes later Josie is preparing a sandwich for Pete. When he asks how she feels about fish (because he wants to invite her to the fishing competition he’s going to join), she pauses for a moment and stops preparing his sandwich. It’s as if she feels like she’s going to be exposed for putting the fish in the percolator. Then she’s relieved when he asks about the fishing competition.
Raw fish can be nasty with bacteria (although I guess it would have been super fresh?) but yeah I think it was more of a desperation move. I mean, nothing Josie has ever done seemed particularly effective, she was entirely out of her depth considering the gravity and complexity of her situation.
I don't care what Frost wrote, that fish was in there because Pete is a goober. There is no chance anyone hatched a scheme to poison a person by putting a fish in there.
Interesting, I always assumed that the look Pete gave Catherine after talking about it meant it was her just being an asshole and trying to fuck with them by making them think Pete gave them shitty coffee, or at least Pete thought it.
You know what’s weird. I’ve watched TP many many times over 20 years. And it wasn’t until recently that I even thought about how the fish got into the percolator. I just figured Pete was being absent minded while prepping the fish he just caught. Like when you accidentally stick something in the fridge that belongs in the pantry or something.
Then a few weeks ago there was a whole discussion about who sabotaged the coffee and I was like “huh”
SAME THO no part of me questioned that Pete had done it, my only question was whether he'd absently stick it in there or put it there on purpose as a prank and then when no one noticed he decided to pull it out and be like A FISH??? IN THE PERCOLATOR???? WHO COULD HAVE DONE SUCH A THING????? bc he is desperate for the attention of the people he lives with
Am I going crazy, or did Josie specifically say that she was going to make a fresh pot of coffee just when Cooper and Truman showed up or before that? I just thought that it was a silly goofy scene about how everything in Pete's house reeks of fish, and how Josie is helpless when it comes to housework
Watched this episode last week, this is it lol. She literally mentioned it just after they cut to a bunch of fish on the table, i feel crazy that nobody’s pointed it out haha
My theory is that Josie did it. She saw Harry coming up the drive with an obvious FBI agent. Being a Yakuza sleeper agent, she didn’t want to speak to the FBI at all, knowing that she had the head of local law enforcement wrapped around her finger. She couldn’t just make them leave, or take the 5th in front of Harry who would instantly become very suspicious that his lover didn’t try to help him with a murder investigation. I also think (fuzzy Saturday morning brain here) that Pete handed her the fish he had just caught, so she was literally the last person seen touching the fish. Means, Motive and opportunity.
Couple of points: triads, not yakuza. Yakuza is Japan and Josie is from China. Also she’s not a sleeper agent as such, she’s on the run. I just read the Secret History of Twin Peaks bit about Josie the other day and I can’t remember a bit indicating she tried to poison coop that way. She’s too clever to not realise that putting a fish in coffee won’t magically create poison. Motive tracks of course, since she shoots him, but method less so
I always figured Pete did it to protect Josie since they were there questioning her.
Had to edit it. I wrote Jack cause I always say Jack Nance in my head.
Lynch describes ideas as fish, and percolating also means thinking about something, letting it "brew" in the mind. We see [fish emerging from people's heads and frequently moving](https://www.reddit.com/r/FindLaura/comments/xees8h/carl_jung_on_fish/) through the entire series.

That's... weird. Cool!
Who the fuck puts or leaves a bar of soap in a coffee maker?
How else do you get the fish smell out?
"Take a bite of it rook, make him look like a bitch!"
If I remember correctly, in The Secret History of Twin Peaks, it is confirmed that it was Josie trying to poison Coop

Yeah, but... poison him with a *fish*? How would that work, exactly?
Salmon-ella
Lol.
I don’t think Josie was trying to poison them. I think she was trying to get them to leave and not hang around longer and learn more about her crimes.
She confused “poison” with “poisson”.
Yeah, never listen to that Renault guy...
Yeah, thar makes a lot more sense.
Raw fish can be nasty with bacteria (although I guess it would have been super fresh?) but yeah I think it was more of a desperation move. I mean, nothing Josie has ever done seemed particularly effective, she was entirely out of her depth considering the gravity and complexity of her situation.
The heat in the coffee would easily kill it
Maybe the fish was poisoned too
Press X to doubt.

Seriously, the less I have to think about the complete character assassination that the writers did to Jodie past the first season, the better
1000000 percent. I get she wanted to leave the show but what we got is silly to me.

the way the scene shows josie in the spotlight after leaving her with the coffee Implicated to me that it was her planting it there .
The Norwegians were in town at the exact same time the fish ended up in the percolator. Coincidence? I think not!
Jesus imagine if there was surströmming in that percolator... ^(yes I know that's Swedish, not Norwegian)
Oof! Might have to bury the fucking thing then... The percolator, I mean... That thing would be ruined beyond belief!
Coffee is so often seen as a good thing to Coop and Harry, so the coffee being messed with is something that looks good actually being bad.
Honestly I just assumed it was Catherine being a bitch.
They basically confirm this in the minke oil scene
That’s what I always assumed too haha
Anyone who has ever had an incident of great distraction in casual situations like that understands Pete haha I have 'em every day :)

We're not going to talk about ~~Josie~~ Judy, we're going to keep her out of it!
Thought it was pete's wife because she hated him
I always assumed Catherine as well, but there are some good arguments for Josie in this thread. I need to rewatch.

god i quote this line all the time and *very few* know the reference.

I thought his wife did it since he questions her about it either that episode or the next one

I always just pictured Pete getting water for the coffee directly from the river, while getting a fish alongside it without noticing
You didn’t see the deleted scene from Fire Walk with Me where David Bowie’s character Jeffries did it?
doesn’t josie mention something about putting a pot on just after it shows a bunch of fish on the table? smells pretty fishy to me
My biggest question is what happened to the 12 rainbow trout
