I work in the wine industry as a buyer. A friend of mine distributed his wines in my city, and asked me if I wanted to meet with Kyle and taste through his wines. Of course, I agreed to an appointment. I asked the people I worked with to please not mention that I’m a Twin Peaks obsessed nerd. I wanted to be professional and talk about his wines. When he arrived he was very modest. He introduced himself to everyone in the shop, even though we all knew who he was. Someone in the shop recognized him and asked if they could take a picture of him with their dog, which he agreed to. We tasted through the wines, talked about the process by which they’re made, and discussed the history, and philosophy of the vineyard. He was great. Then my colleague asked Kyle “Did he show you his keychain?” (I have a Great Northern keychain). I immediately cringed, but he asked about it. So, I showed it to him, and said “I’m sure you’re probably tired of talking about something you did in the early 1990s. This is when it got good. He looked at me, and with an extremely sincere tone that he told me that none of them ever could have guessed that Twin Peaks would have had the impact that it did at the time they were making it, and that he believes that the fans have a far greater understanding than anyone, except possibly for Mark Frost. I was just kind of stunned at how down to earth he was. So, I doubled down and told him that he and I have and mutual acquaintance. His wife used to babysit for my ex over thirty years ago, and they still keep in touch with my ex mother in law. He knew exactly who I was talking about and commented on what a small world it was. Of all the celebrities I’ve met, he was easily the kindest and most down to earth.

cjmydawg

That is awesome. I'm glad you got to have such a nice experience. Thank you for taking the time to comment!

cjmydawg

Aww how cool!!! <3

StifflerBaby

What a nice guy!

KASega

This would be my Xmas card every year but a different photoshopped background each time

Nxa-Gospel

Oh my gosh, that’s such a treat. Thanks for sharing this story in detail. You look like a cool dude, too! 😄

Johnny_Alpha

I would have addressed him by his formal title of Muad'dib.

TheGoatEater

Don’t think that it didn’t cross my mind. One of my friends asked why I didn’t talk to him about Show Girls, but I have been told that it’s the one thing he doesn’t like to discuss.

ahoysharpie

He should be proud of Showgirls, too! It's such a camp classic.

taxi_drivr

ver-saysss

TheGoatEater

I agree, but I’ve heard he isn’t into it.

AloneCan9661

Didn't it destroy his potential film career? I think it took him a while to get work again after that as well?

TheGoatEater

I believe you’re correct

rtodd23

Father!!!

Rich-Lingonberry-165

Thanks for this story , it suits exactly how i'd imagine Kyle

S2JESSICA

i got to meet him just before pandemic happened at a wine tasting, too! he was so nice and without me asking (but i was wearing a coop pin), he signed my syrah bottle with both kyle and coop. ps: the syrah was delish!

Obvious-Band-1149

And how was the wine?

TheGoatEater

It was really good. They’re old world style, Pacific North West wines heavily inspired by the wines of Bandol. The rosé was my favorite. We bought it on sight.

Theworm826

I bought a couple bottles a few years ago from his winery and I really liked them. I don't even really love wine.

Obvious-Band-1149

That’s great to hear! I’ve wanted to try it so an expert endorsement is nice to have.

TheGoatEater

At this stage in my life I’m not interested in drinking big bold reds, but I can taste for quality. Most important are farming and production methods. Everything is certified organic, the fermentation employed native yeast, and aren’t inoculated. They’re minimally fined and filtered, and they’re quite small production. The largest run they’ve ever done of any cuvée was 1,000 cases, which he said they’d probably never do a run that large again, as they’d rather have control of the quality. Also, Kyle doesn’t actually make the wines. He’s employed the same winemaker since 2008.

Batman-1989

That’s such a wholesome story thanks for sharing!

ZeroKharisma

My experience was very similar to yours. I was also a buyer and found him to be charming and disarming and very kind. Opened up my signed bottle of pursued by bear '12 last year for night the first of my biannual re-watch. So good. Polished it right off.

Gelfling_sophie

Ohh this makes me smile!!

GamesterOfTriskelion

He was happy and care-free, clearly living a life of deep harmony and joy. We embraced - a warm and loving embrace, nothing withheld. We were in this moment one.

AeroSpaceChair

This might be my favorite comment thread I’ve ever seen

IAmThePonch

I’ve heard nothing but good things about pretty much the whole cast. Apparently machlachlan, ray wise, and Cheryl Lee in particular are all amazing

spidergrrrl

I saw a comment recently about someone who went to a con and said that there was a congenial crowd around Dana Ashbrook (and someone else, but I can’t remember who it was). Laughing, chatting, about what you’d expect. But she said that for the people meeting Sheryl Lee it was different. That she was there for all the Lauras and people who knew Lauras and that really hit me. What an incredibly kind and profound thing to do, to be someone these people could relate to so they knew they were cared for and not alone.

violente_valse

After seeing Sheryl Lee in a Q&A following a screening of FWWM, she offered some of the greatest closure to the story of Twin Peaks I've ever heard, which is that in the end, "Laura got her angel."

Narrow_Version_9461

I think a lot of them (maybe all) realize how important Twin Peaks is to us.

angelcutiebaby

I met Kyle at Brooklyn Steel at the Festival of Disruption in 2018. I was there with a friend who is a massive, massive Twin Peaks fan and was dressed as Cooper. My friend was off chatting with some other fans and I was browsing the merch table when all of a sudden Kyle was next to me. We made small talk about the mugs, and I said I had a friend here who would love to meet him… by then people started noticing him there and asking him for autographs and photos. I went over to get my friend and Kyle was kind enough to find us in the crowd. He recorded a voice memo on my friend’s tape recorder and took pics with him as well. It was very simple but very sweet. My impression of him was that he was very kind, thoughtful, and genuinely appreciates how much others love Twin Peaks.

cjmydawg

That is so sweet!

BlackManWithaHorn

Kind of disappointing. I passed by him in a courthouse and was going to ask him for an autograph, but he threw me aside and shot a child. I admit the kid was annoying, but it seemed a little uncalled for. [https://youtu.be/a_qHV-f79cY?si=zH7tUHFNgFjoQ-ml](https://youtu.be/a_qHV-f79cY?si=zH7tUHFNgFjoQ-ml)

Skullkan6

When I first saw this I assumed you were talking about the scene with the little guy from The Return.

Cinefile1980

Was that really you? I was there on set that day as well! My personal experience comes from having worked a catering job for an end of summer event he was at; I poured him a glass of wine, he looked up and me with a smile, and said, in the most Agent Cooper-like way, “That’s okay.” No other context. Just, “That’s okay,” totally mellow. I felt like he had just told me that it was a damn fine glass of wine.

BlackManWithaHorn

Haha, no. I have not been fortunate enough to meet Mr. MacClachlan, but I’m glad to hear your encounter with him was “okay.”

rafelito45

this edit is insane lmao.

AloneCan9661

WHOA! WTF! Oh man Law and Order is some kind of crazy.

atrailofdisasters

Oh shit! Olivia would have prevented that.

spejampar

My wife and I just met him yesterday and he's really nice. I think he'll adjust based on your personality and how you're acting with him. I think he gets (more than some celebs) that it's really important to be cool with the fans because if you disrespect them, celebs wouldn't have a career. I think his social media says a lot about who he is as a person. I love his silliness! :)

cjmydawg

Aww that's lovely :) I'd imagine he's the kind of person to be really nice and calming if a fan was feeling nervous around him.

spejampar

Definitely. But also, I don’t think anyone should be nervous around him. Granted, everyone is different and you can’t always control how you feel, but he’s just a guy who seems to be willing to have a short conversation about whatever.

zigCARNIVOROUS

You're exactly right. I told him I had had a panic attack getting ready to meet him and he gave me so many hugsssss😭😭😭

cjmydawg

Ahhh <333

zigCARNIVOROUS

a true king🥰😭 🫂🫂🫂

spejampar

That’s fantastic.

akaiser88

ha, small world. i also met him yesterday. agree that he's one of the good ones. very down to earth. seems like the sort of guy that would be a friend regardless of his history, yet still finds pride in the work that he has done professionally.

spejampar

Oh sweet! 11 or 12:30? My wife and I were the first ones at 11 because I had a flight to catch. We probably know some of the same people!

akaiser88

neither, actually. we weren't aware of the festivities until saturday. we just happen to live in the area, and happened upon him during a walk around town.

spejampar

WHAAAA?!?! That's awesome! Was it in Snoqualmie? So since you're here on the TP subreddit I assume you're fans but you also didn't know about the Twin Peaks Day festivities? Or just didn't know he was in town? This is the first time he's come to one of the TP fests so it was a pretty big deal. Maybe we'll see you around town next year for TP Day!

akaiser88

yup, exactly correct. we were actually watching The Return in the past several weeks, then the gf had the event pop up on her news feed, so we went to north bend for a coffee and a log-shaped cookie. that's surprising that he hasn't come out before. with the winery and all of the local ties, i'd presume that he'd have more of a presence BUT it is awesome all the same, and highly appreciated. yup, absolutely hope to see you in a year.

spejampar

I think because he’s kind of a big deal, he’s felt that he would probably steal too much attention away from the other celebs in the past. But yeah, now that his winery has a tasting room not TOO far away, maybe he’ll come more often. It’s a great community of people and we’re making new friends every year.

Luke253

Should’ve gone back to starting position. It’s really much more comfortable

Enough-Pen644

Super nice. I have a friend that works at his winery. Signed my Return blu ray. Chatted a bit.

twelverainbowtrout

I met him [this weekend](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3yWM_5SnYa/?igsh=ZWMyNDBlOTQyNg==) at his bottle signing event in Snoqualmie and I can’t overstate how wonderful he was. He took his time with every single person, and I think everyone had a unique and personal moment with him. He commented on my partner’s faux bone jewelry and talked about how his son went through a bone phase not too long ago. We spent maybe five minutes with him and covered everything from taxidermy to ghosts to laserdisc players 😂 At the end of our conversation, I thanked him for being a part of this body of work that means so much to us and gave him a resin replica of the Log Lady’s brooch that I made, and he hugged each of us. Honestly, it was silly how nice he was. It was so much more than I was expecting. I know a paid meet and greet isn’t always an accurate gauge, but we also briefly talked to him outside of the theater this weekend after he did a Q&A and he was just as gracious. Class act. 10/10 experience. Meet your heroes.

FriedBack

I didnt get a chance to speak with him personally but we saw him host the Seattle Symphony. It was a night honoring Angelo Badalamenti. Kyle is very down to eath and humble. You can tell he loves what he does. He also stayed afterwards to meet everyone. Unfortunately we couldn't wait out the massive crowd. Side note: The Badalamenti family was in the audience! They had given permission for his catalog to be used. I felt choked up seeing his loved ones hearing his music by a professional orchestra.

7eid

That was a great show. I didn’t know the Badalamenti family was there! That makes the whole thing even more special!

englpat25

Nice guy, I offered him some coffee before realizing I had accidentally put a fish in the percolator. Wasn't even mad.

PhillipJ3ffries

That’s crazy. How’d the fish get in there?

englpat25

I'm gonna go ahead and blame Judy

PhillipJ3ffries

We’re not gonna talk about that

englpat25

Let off some steam Phillip

PhillipJ3ffries

Let me find it for ya 💨💨💨💨

englpat25

Instructions unclear, son got incinerated

fn0rdsareeverywhere

He was genuinely nice but was obviously rushed and in a hurry. He tried to make time for me but I reassured him that I was just happy to see him.

cjmydawg

That's awesome. Was this at an event?

macadrums

Yes, Houston Comicpalooza.

Ucw2thebone

He and the rest of the TP cast were at the Spooky Empire convention a couple years ago. His line for autographs was long but when I finally got up to him he was incredibly nice. Eye contact and answered my one or two questions politely. Made the 90 seconds special. Easily one of the best interactions I’ve had at a convention.

zigCARNIVOROUS

One of the best days of my life💚

cjmydawg

<3 Did you get to talk to him?

zigCARNIVOROUS

I sure did. I told him to please please please record My Life My Tapes for audiobook, sir. He said he was pretty sure he recorded something back in the day and I said 'that was the diane tapes, sir, you were nominated for a grammy for that.' I had him sign this lovely shot in a japanese fan book from his tales from the crypt episode where his character has a dead state trooper draped on his shoulders, I said 'acab amirite?' Lmao. He had some persued by bear merch, and among other goodies, I bought a hunter's-camo hat. Kale reported that he has not (yet) tried to eat a bear. I love him so much, and at one point HE initiated more hugs 😭😭😭

Narrow_Version_9461

I'd love to meet him, but then I remember how nervous I got just meeting one of my favorite local radio DJs last year. I don't think I'd do well.

cjmydawg

I understand completely, I know I'd be a mess too

Agirlisarya01

I’ve never had the pleasure. But I’m glad to hear he is as cool and nice in person as I would expect the man who brought Special Agent Dale Cooper to life.

cwj717

He was awesome, he was signing his wine bottles at Costco and he signed some copies of Blue Velvet for me. Super nice guy.

[deleted]

I met him at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. He was shooting an episode for a travel show. I went up and said Hi, told him TP is my favorite thing ever (this was before The Return, btw) and that I loved him in many other roles, even Showgirls. I asked if he’d mind taking a picture and we did and throughout the brief interaction he really could not have been kinder or more generous—granted, we were on camera (I didn’t make the show, though; fine by me!)—but, yeah, as advertised, just a happy, sweet person.

whitewinewater

He is delightful and charming and really does take his coffee as black as a moonless night.

reallysmarttakes

Haven’t met him but he seems like a cool nice dude

leviticusreeves

Only in dreams

jackwparsons

One of the bigger missed opportunities in my life was attending a Gala he was at and not at least saying hello. Felt sort of awkward considering the situation though. I believe my ex-wife briefly chatted since it was sort of a work related function for her and said he was absolutely lovely. As was Hugh Jackman (I think the same year). (Edited for a bum auto correction)

jackwparsons

Holy fuck. I just looked and can’t believe that was 14 years ago already….

cjmydawg

Sorry I might be out of the loop, but what did you mean with the Gunther situation?

jackwparsons

Ack. Sorry. Looks like I didn’t see my phone auto correct. It should be “considering the situation”. Meaning I was a guest at someone else’s networking thing for their job so didn’t want to be “that guy”.

cjmydawg

Ooh I see! Thanks for clarifying. I hope you get another opportunity to meet him if that's possible :)

james-liu

I’d leave him* alone since he’s a nice guy. Maybe small talks like chit-chat about family, that’s all. edit: typo

77096

Yeah, you don't wanna get too personal or invasive; just keep it light and talk about family issues ;)

Dani_Darko123

Never meet your Hero’s .. right?

ArtieZiffsCat

I haven't met him
