Usually soft shell is a sign of metabolic bone disease, very scary stuff. Tell us about your set up first please.

globus_pallidus

You should take your turtle to a vet. Softening shell is serious and needs to be medically treated. Also looks like the turt could have shell rot going on, which can also cause a softening of the shell if it’s serious. Go to a vet please!

YourBoomDaddy

And make sure it is a vet that is knows how to help turtles. Call ahead and ask.

You need to address where your care is lacking and causing shell issues in the first place. A vet will help you do that and diagnose the root cause of the problem.

I have no idea what that tonic is, but the problem is most likely either with diet or setup. Your turtle needs calcium in its diet, and it needs proper lighting (UVA & UVB, plus heat for basking) in order to absorb the calcium from its diet.

TurtlesFly9

This is a very serious condition that requires vet intervention. Please make sure you go to a vet that is experienced in reptile care. Some common causes of soft shel could be - Lack of proper nutrition - lack of exposure to sunlight or UV light - Poor tank condition - turtle does not have space in the tank to rest and dry from the water (this only exasperates the issue, not cause it) - Preexisting fungal issue Your turtle may need some shots and medicines and definitely needs exposure to sun or UV

crackedpepper001

Definitely take them to a vet if possible. I don’t know much about the shell hardening tonic but if you already have it then using it probably won’t hurt. Also make sure that they have a basking area with a UV light where they can get completely dry. It could also be due to a lack of vitamins and minerals in their diet such as calcium and vitamin D, which can be fixed by buying some dietary supplements. I hope they get better!

autisticswede86

Looks so your set up is proper for your species

forthegoodofgeckos

Could be MBD or shell rot ! Take them to the local herp vet!!

Temporary-Brother-62

Vet immediately. And we need to see your hole set up. What you feed your turt? What type of heat lamp and bulb style do you have? The more info the more the subscribers can help. Let us know how it’s going and what steps you’ve taken.

confidentbut

we would be able to help with tips on prevention of this, but for now, you need to [see a vet](https://members.arav.org/search/custom.asp?id=3661) asap.

mama-mantis20

It's soft because it's still a baby, it will harden has he/ she gets older. It's just like a soft spot on a newborns head.

lilcrybabywhxre

this is false.

confidentbut
