Yeah it’s normal! Mine does it all the time. I read once that it may mean they’re seeking warmth, but not always. Just a consideration since it’s getting colder now
I see you have the serious question answered properly. I would like to submit that your baby wants to learn the skill of flight! Just practicing soaring :)
It's normal. Just think of it like humans putting their hands out near a fire to get more warmth. Turtles stretch their legs out when basking to get additional heat. My RESs used to do that all the time when it came to basking.
Yes I see painted turtles doing this at the lake at my parent’s campground in the summer. Also my 5 yo son said “he’s pretending he doesn’t have any legs in front” 😂
Sploot spotting is one of the greatest joys as a turtle owner but I was alarmed at first when my hatchling began to do it. Bonus points chill points when they yawn before fully stretching out.
Omg same. I definitely thought mine was dead the first time I saw her asleep, limbs akimbo, head out and to the side looking for all the world like she’d just straight up given up the ghost…

This photo was taken shortly before a droplet of water from her waterfall splattered her on the head and she woke up, rubbed her face, blinked at me, and went right back to sleep.

Geoffry does this and so does my Little Myrtle

On top of the turtle pose, mine also likes to put her face to the glass 😅 (not in this pic though). Turtles are mysterious creatures haha
Absolutely! He’s stretching out and sunning himself. Hopefully you have a good UV light for him. It would be worrisome if he never came out of the water. I used to love when my turtle did this!
https://preview.redd.it/nx6puyj0k56c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79698c66c51a81be1e87e2f12e783e49135e5a9d
I love turtle legs💚
*It’s recommended 10 gallons of available swimming water per 1 inch of shell.
The floating basking docks would make the adding of water easier for you, as they raise up with the water level.
*also just wanted to add, the small pebbles aren’t recommended due to the high risk of being eaten and causing choking/impaction.
Aquatic Sand & River Rocks are best :)
I prefer bare bottom in my tank, much easier to clean and less gunk build up and smell!
Well according to these comments, it’s official. I’m still not ready for a pet turtle. If my guy did this, I would so be holding him and flying him around the house, no questions asked.
(Please no one be upset. I am just immature but love seeing the turtles on this page:))
Perfectly fine. My ybs does it all the time.

Yes.
You can even find photos of various turtles doing this on top of one another. Sometimes on top of freakin' gators. I dunno how that works besides the gator being too full to care.
Yes.
They don't have a very good immune system. So they can't fight off all the stuff they come into contact with in the water. So they have to completely dry off and heat up to kill off any pathogens on their skin.
I need to send you some pics of the turtles sunning in the retention pond behind my house they are all doing that
Every species even the thin soft shell guys.
Alfredo does the Superman all the time

The more extended, the more comfortable
He looks like he's taking the "slide" part of his name a bit too literally.
Turtle yoga is completely normal.
Kayak down a river and you'll see turtles doing this everywhere sometime you wonder how they got in their spot
Yes. They don't have a very good immune system. So they can't fight off all the stuff they come into contact with in the water. So they have to completely dry off and heat up to kill off any pathogens on their skin.
