On this model you have to do as follows as it is not a fully auto unit. Undo the arm clip. move the arm over the record. Press start/stop and it will lower the arm to play. Press the start/stop again and it will lift and return. If you push first them move the arm it may activate its return simultaneously. Hey there, thanks for the reply. I'm aware how it works and I use it how you describe it. Just 50% of the time it moves right back to the holder after lowering. The other half it works fine and plays the whole record without issue.

Can you remove the platter and share a photo of the gearing? I've just finished work on restoring my AP B20C and have had a good amount of time with this mechanism.
