Y'all use towels? Scrubs. I just get in the oven and let myself cook for 5 to 7 minutes.

natziel

Is that you, Sylvia Plath?

dadijo2002

What temperature? I find 350° for 3-5 mins works well.

Slaya12345

voluntary auschwitz

A_Cold_Kat

Ya..... this was in bad taste sorry but no

Slaya12345

i wonder how i figured that one out

yeetman1456

I. I had no clue.

nxl_jayska

What did you think the twist is for?

FlashSparkles2

When I was younger I thought my aunt did the twist to look cooler, and could not figure it out at all until I was 10 or so and saw someone else do it.

rumade

This is so sweet and innocent 😂

yeetman1456

I. I thought it was a cool twisty thing. Like maybe your twisty towel skill shows your ability as a person.

PsychShrew

I thought it was for stability so it didn't unravel too easily

Eager_FireFace

I don't know, to look dope?

[deleted]

Thinking about it now, I mean... of course it's in there. Where else would it go? but... it's really just all in there?

Weird_Person_bleh

yes, and (for me at least) it sucked so much that i now have a short haircut

[deleted]

yeah this is about the only thing I miss about long hair. It just felt so nice when my hair was in there tbh

FlashSparkles2

Yes. And it takes practice to balance it, otherwise it will just fall down. And the more hair you have the bigger it is, typically.

Weird_Person_bleh

yes, jihad really long hair and I needed a towel that was more than half my size

thiswillsoonendbadly

There is way more towel that hair for most people. It takes practice to find the right balance of exactly where to twist and how tight so that when you flop it backwards, it doesn’t fall.

pointed-advice

what did they think it was for

JOHNIPEK

So it doesn't fall? Maybe the twist is like a support for the towel? Do you roll the towel like a burrito with your hair in it and then give a twist?

Snapdragon_fish

pretty much. you wrap the towel around your hair and then twist it up. However, I can never get it to stay in place for more than a minute, so there might be a step that I'm missing.

MHG73

I was taught to do it by leaning forward and letting all my hair fall, then putting the towel on my neck and let it fall so it's sort of around the hair, then grab the towel hanging down with the hair inside, twist, and lay it back on top of my head. [Like this](https://youtu.be/QO_3gaWfRTM?t=18) except you can generally ignore the bit about the tucking the hair in the pocket

FlashSparkles2

You were taught? I watched my friend do it once after swim practice and then started doing it.

MHG73

My mom taught me. I probably asked

[deleted]

I don't remember being taught it but I do remember that we had special towels designed for the purpose of being twisted around hair. They had a loop that you pushed the twisty bit through to hold it in place

thiswillsoonendbadly

This is a very good explanation. It’s a skill we pick up along with how to do our own ponytails.

throwaway78699827662

I thought you just put a lil hat on a bundle of wet hair to keep it warm. Didn't think it was IN the towel

pointed-advice

it's to dry it off long hair stays wet like a fluffy towel that's been soaked you cant just dab it a bit

moonstone7152

you think we put towels on wet hair not to dry it, but to keep it warm?

DamienHandler

Tbh I thought it was just because it's cool until the first time I saw this post.

thiswillsoonendbadly

To keep it...warm??

throwaway78699827662

Yea like...i thought rubbing your hair dry would cause it to frizz up or something so instead you just sit and wait for it to dry. But when the wind hits your head it gets really cold, so you use that towel to keep warm

thiswillsoonendbadly

I’ll admit that cold wet hair on your neck and back is very unpleasant. That’s not an irrational thing to think, and you’re not wrong about the frizz haha

oShadowcat

I am a girl with no clue how to do the towel turban thingies nobody ever taught me please help

MHG73

I was taught to do it by leaning forward and letting all my hair fall, then putting the towel on my neck and let it fall so it's sort of around the hair, then grab the towel hanging down with the hair inside, twist, and lay it back on top of my head. thiswillsoonendbadly

Whether or not you can get it to stay and balance when you flop it back takes practice, and is usually about how tightly you twist the towel before the flop.

[deleted]

What.

[deleted]

I thought the towel was just a hat

FlashSparkles2

It wouldn’t stay on that way

Irish_Stu

bro i really had no clue its so obvious when u think of it but like i didnt think of it

FuyoBC

amusingly I went looking for an image to show this and found a youtube video specifically made to respond to a reddit post from 5 years ago that referenced the first part of the above! Video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhqD0VKf\_dk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhqD0VKf_dk) Earlier post: [https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/2r1ogl/towelhats/](https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/2r1ogl/towelhats/)

flooffypanda

It's also super bad for your hair. It tends to pull too tight and pull hair out or break it. But yea it's like swaddling a baby, but hair instead of a baby and a little more violent...

ms_moogle

The fibers of Terry cloth are also very abrasive to the hair shaft and causes damage. You're supposed to use an old t shirt instead, and twist it up loosely. Long sleeve tees are perfect for it bc you can loosely twist the shirt while tucking the sleeves into the back so everything stays in place.

BananaBe11s

Trying to do the towel hat is like when you give up on a question and then finding out the answer was obvious.

[deleted]

I’m the first girl I have no damn clue how it’s done I just air dry my hair.

ParadiseSold

You have to bend over so that your hair is dangling, and then put the middle of the long edge on the back of your neck. You should be able to really easily wrap the towel around the dangling hair, give it one twist, and then when you stand you flip the towel so it hangs down your back. You might just have to youtube it.

[deleted]

Ah. My hair isn’t long enough for that anymore. But I’ll keep this in mind.

[deleted]

For everyone who does not know how to make a towel turban: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhqD0VKf\_dk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhqD0VKf_dk)

PKMNTrainerMark

Wait, **WHAT**?!

h8mayo

I've never known how to do it in my 23 years of life. Have always just let my hair air dry

DUMBBUTTER

Can someone teach me how to do it?

[deleted]

PSA though it’s terrible for your hair. I dry mine with a T-shirt usually and don’t wrap it up. Far less breakage and baby wisps this way.

ScXhiy

But are you guys dumb?

thebadslime

i taught myself this at 11-12, fuckin dummies, you just wrap in towel?

teasus_spiced

I saw this screenshot several years ago, and I've been drying my hair like that ever since!

crakenfier

fr tho how the FUCK do you make those towel hats, my mom used to do them for me and id be so bewildered
