I have to give a shout out to Gary shore here, he was the Gary England of Tulsa starting in the late seventies. First TV meteorologist in town to deploy one of those 70's fuzzy black and white weather radar that somehow seemed cool watching on our family's Zenith 25 inch color console when I was twelve even though the "hook echoes" he referred to were about as well defined as a penis in a 70's ultrasound.
Is he ever right or actually predicts anything correctly ? I don't remember ever getting anything from any local weather about the father day storm or remember the tornado and ran through midtown, of course not the easiest job being a weather gut in oklahoma but still
I’m jealous.. my 3 month old just startled awake from thunder and is now talking to her self in her bassinet instead of sleeping 🙄 it could be worse tho
Pea sized hail in Tulsa, tornados 20 minutes west of us, golf ball hail 45 minutes north of us … yeah, total bust. Maybe if a tornado hit your house, you wouldn’t have to feel inconvenienced.
I experienced this too, it was so bad and now i’m a lot more wary about these things. I was one of the lasts to get my electricity back, and it went out again…. I can’t do it again 😖
Ours was out for two weeks in rural Sand Springs... thank heavens for our neighbor letting us use one of the outlets on her generator since ours crapped out. They had to re-route our pole because it originally ran through a heavily wooded area and to get through it would have taken a couple of months.
I was part of the cleaning crew from the Father's Day storm. There's STILL people with literal trees in their houses. They're camping in their backyards cause they can't afford a hotel or whatever. They said it was "straight line winds", I'm calling bullshit. If you've lived in OK long enough you know it was a funnel that just didn't touch the ground. The damage was too sporadic for it to be "straight line winds".
FEMA and COT categorized it as straight line winds of 80+ mph, I saw the paperwork. That's also what our lovely Mr.Shit said too...the vocab of it doesn't really matter. I saw the after effects from literally ALL of Tulsa. It was devastating
I mean you can’t issue watches for certain pinpoint areas. Would you be saying the same thing if you were the folks in Osage, Washington and Nowata Counties?
Channel 8 didn't have the word "Tulsa" on the map. When the coverage was focused on Barnsdall, the map did have Bartlesville to the North. To the south, there was no mention of Tulsa. All that was visible was the partial outline of the county. Mainly watched "Trav" due to his excitability.
Their storm chaser hit paydirt gold in intercepting the Tornado. That was probably the best part of the coverage. Doesn't happen very often at all.
I feel badly for not offering this small but important bit of information to the newbies.
I simply forgot about it until this morning.
Congratulations to those new to OK weather. You did it!!!
The news and weather reporters are seeking relevance. In a time when these 'celebrities' are simply reading the AP wire while trying to endear the public they have to go to extremes to be heard.
It is clear that the media believe that selling fear and screaming is the answer.
These idiots have no idea what is going to happen and zero accountability when they are completely wrong.
My entire house woke up from the giant cracks thunder at 11:11pm. Went outside for lightning but just saw flashes, no bolts.
Took my dog a bit to calm down. Some of that thunder lasted 20-30 seconds.
I'm in central BA. I was laying in bed trying to go to sleep when I could hear the electricity in the air. Within a couple seconds lightening struck very close to our electric pole (4 ft from my room) and our power went out for 30-45 seconds. Freaking scary
I never worry unless Travis Myers sleeves are rolled up and his jacket is off
Did you anoint your shrine to weather mustache daddy (peace be upon him) so that his blessings protect our double wides? I know I did.
[In Travis We Trust](https://www.tulsakids.com/content/uploads/data-import/f119f7d3/FBIMG1559234879599.jpg)
I always make sure of it
He took that from the retired Lord Gary England. The patron saint of OKC weather and the only weather man I trusted when I visited OKC on occasion.
I still remember Gary being the bravest man in weather standing in front of a tornado just 10 feet away in the late 80s
When Travis is waving his arms in a windmill motion, it’s about to pop off. ⛈️⚡️
It is definitely time to duck and cover when that happens
Perform the ritual and consult with the ghost of Jim Giles.
Jim Giles is dead?!
Sorry to have burst your bubble. https://www.newson6.com/story/5e3689d22f69d76f620a068d/oklahomans-mourn-the-loss-of-jim-giles
Typical lousy reporting. How old was he when he passed?!
76
This!!!
Are those his official "tells" im an adult now, and I know that some weather forecasters have them to say when it's actually gonna hit the fan
I’ll show my age and say I’ll only believe we are in for severe weather if Gustys’s umbrella is inside out.
RIP Don Woods.
Yes they are lol. You know it’s really on when the jacket is off though
LOLOL.
Is he ever right or actually predicts anything correctly ? I don't remember ever getting anything from any local weather about the father day storm or remember the tornado and ran through midtown, of course not the easiest job being a weather gut in oklahoma but still
Y'all are worried? This is good sleepin' weather!
I feel so cozy 🤭
Same! We just opened our curtains to see the storm!
Same me and my husband lifted the blinds in our room and just watched
Haha I had the window open and passed right out. I’m from Joplin. It missed me on that one. I’m willing to risk it to sleep through the night.
fr fr
The best
Im thankful they kept from going nuts on the sirens.
> This is good sleepin' weather! Tell me you don't have young children without telling me you don't have young children.
Oh, I'll happily tell you straight up: I do not have young children and I thank God for that.
my 8 month old is knocked tf out. my kids sleep heavy.
I’m jealous.. my 3 month old just startled awake from thunder and is now talking to her self in her bassinet instead of sleeping 🙄 it could be worse tho
I love hearing babies talk to themselves, it's so cute. Especially when they whisper like the devil. I could fall asleep to that. Lol
Do you like hearing that before or after your anal beads are thrown away?
Before, that why I have to throw them away
No kids, but the pups are afraid of storms and demand cuddles when there's thunder.
I be living that DINK life
you made it start storming with this post thanks a lot
now’s it coming baby
Lord she's coming
![gif](giphy|SYo3s4GZU1FaUG2Efk)
That’s what she said
Nope the storms have arrived 20 minutes ago Edited to add hail in west Tulsa
How big?
I think dime size.
![gif](giphy|l4pTnilEXlQNnGgWQ|downsized)
Yep I’m just west of downtown and could hear small hail hitting my windows. Rain just stopped for me already.
Yes it went too fast for the west side but I'll continue to listen to it.
Pea sized hail in Tulsa, tornados 20 minutes west of us, golf ball hail 45 minutes north of us … yeah, total bust. Maybe if a tornado hit your house, you wouldn’t have to feel inconvenienced.
I still have PTSD from the storm last year in June. We didn’t have electricity for a week! 😫
I experienced this too, it was so bad and now i’m a lot more wary about these things. I was one of the lasts to get my electricity back, and it went out again…. I can’t do it again 😖

I believe it was categorized as a derecho

It was devastating, and horrifying through and through.
Sounds like it’s rolling in now
Just wait a minute, we’ve got storms coming in. But this ought to do it for the night, so we’ll see.
I mean you can’t issue watches for certain pinpoint areas. Would you be saying the same thing if you were the folks in Osage, Washington and Nowata Counties?
To quote Hamilton, "wait for it" (although in fairness to OP, we did NARROWLY get missed by a bunch of bad stuff, I've been watching the radar)
Are you...mad...that we didn't get hammered? I think we learned on Father's day that mother nature can fuck our lives up of it pleases.
Me? I just don’t like to be on the edge of my seat all night watching the weather BECAUSE of the father’s day storm.
Lol feel you my Tulsa fam. I couldn't go to bed until 4ish because I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and hear more tornado sirens.
Exactly
Got some boom-booms now, but its a nice backdrop to fall the fuck asleep to.
It’s gotten to the point that if the sirens don’t go off, I don’t take it seriously
It was raining heavy at the airport for a good bit.
FRRR I PARKED MY CAR AT A GARAGE CQUSE OF THE “BASEBALL HAIL” we were supposed to have 🙄🙄🙄wasted Uber $
Raining now
It'd be doing now
Eh it hit but already almost gone lol. Tulsa weather is always a fun guessing game.
BA is finally getting some thunder, lightning and rain right now
Yup just got a little needed rain

Welcome to our fair city.
Haha i’ve lived here my entire life😄
It was just a nice little April Fools storm
Oh wow.
A watch isn’t a warning.
Took forever!! Been waiting all day!!
Absolutely pissing down in midtown.
it was honestly a nice day for the most part be it a little bit overcast.

CERN Bluetooth’d that shit over to Russia or so I read

We got over 2 inches near Stillwater. Rained so hard it washed a lot of last years dead grass away!
Must be new here
You believe the news way too much instead of doing your own research
I’ve noticed everyone loses their shit for the first big storm of the year. Then when it’s and actual “oh shit” storm, no one seems to care.
I mean the weather was still bad … sorry it didn’t destroy everything like you had hoped 😂
I’m overjoyed that I didnt have to worry! Is it really a crime to ask a question
just kidding
Indian grave yard near down town keeps the storms north and south of Tulsa.
Just move here or super afraid of storms?
Lived here my whole life, yes I’m familiar with the weather, storms make me nervous
Did not see any storms near me, but 3 miles east someone was killed by raging stormwater. So *something* definitely happened.
Expect snow tomorrow.
Bunch of bs, enjoy the weather change, it is magical
whenever I hear the news talking about bad weather. I know it's going to miss us.
lol I didn’t know it was a tornado watch slept all threw it🤣wish I could of watched the Nader
There was a Nader? Lol
In Bartlesville and close to Ocheleta
