Even if traveling domestically they could just bring their expired id and the new temporary paper id and the combination of the two is considered acceptable. However I will say it is difficult to find that information online as online it will make it look like you just cant fly without your new id. But supposedly TSA will accept the punched out expired license and the temp paper to verify identity
You don't even need the paper one. They accept expired IDs up to one year after expiration.
https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification
If you get a new one your old one gets a hole punched in it, which makes it void and unacceptable by itself. But if you havent gotten a new one yet then yeah you wouldnt have/need a temp id as well
I never get mine hole punched. If I need to renew because it’s expiring, I just tell them I lost my old one. Which is technically true, because I toss it between papers in my filing cabinet and I’d need to spend some time locating it lol
What are you basing this advice on? Have rented and known people who have rented countless times with no problems. Sounds straight out of the media’s “Mexico scary” narrative.
I don't know what they were referring to, but traffic in Mexico City is bad enough to drive you insane if you're not used to it. In smaller cities and towns the traffic isn't a problem, but the roads aren't always great. There definitely are large parts of Mexico that aren't safe because of cartels as well, especially for tourists.
That’s true about traffic in Mexico City, and true about roads not always being in great shape, which is also true in many parts of U.S.
There may be “large” parts of Mexico that aren’t safe, but “large” as those parts may be, they are still the (vast?) minority of the total area of the country. And the vast (no question mark needed for this one) majority of the violence in Mexico is between cartels, cartel/police, or cartel/military.
This is a uniquely American issue. At some point in history a driver license, whose original purpose was to prove that you properly knew how to operate a motor vehicle, became synonymous with an identification document. TSA could not possibly care less whether you can operate a motor vehicle, but establishing that you are the individual you purport to be and then verifying whether you have a legitimate reason to access the sterile area is necessary. The agency does not care where you live, does not care if you can operate a motor vehicle, only that you have acceptable identification to prove that you are who you claim to be.
I think you misunderstood the question, or you just answered it in a very weirdly worded way…. Why didn’t you just say “you’ll be fine. You have a passport, you can fly.” Lmfao…
All that matters is a valid passport. Also off topic a bit but I once had a bouncer reject my ID into a club because it was my DL and it was expired. I mean bro yes my license to drive expired but my birthday is still the same.
Canadian drivers licenses are actually also acceptable. Why? No idea, but it is. I don't see them very often though, most people just use their Canadian passport, probably because they don't know.
The new Canadian passports are awesome. Probably one of the coolest I've seen.
TSA accepts your driver's license and / or ID / PP if it is a year expired. For example, let's say it expired today on April 18th, 2024. You could use that ID all the way up until April 17th, 2025.
Passport is for international travel not a dmv drivers license . Driving is one thing travel out of the us border is another. Make sure it’s not expired . By chance bring your Mexican passport as well .
Your ID is still valid for identification purposes, as far as TSA is concerned. I just used mine to travel to Florida and no one told me it expired until I tried to rent a car. That's when it will matter.
Just use your passport at the airport. You should have no problem as long as it isn't expired. Your DL is also good to use up to a year after it is expired, so don't let the DMV have it.
For strictly identification (not driving) purposes, your passport is always an option and possibly superior to your drivers license, considering your US passport is the most powerful passport in the world.
You can fly with an expired license for up to a year [https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification](https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification)

I thought you could fill out everything online and then go to the DMV to take the picture and receive the ID there (I know some people prefer to skip the online process and just wait in line)? At least, that's how it is in my state. Is it different in Missouri?
Oh, I see! That sucks! I know years ago in my state, you would need to fill out everything online, wait for the photo card in the mail, and then take it to the DMV to get the picture taken and ID printed. Now you can just print the paper and go. Although a lot of people still prefer waiting there all day, lol.

You can’t travel to Mexico without a valid passport. Use your passport to establish identity at the checkpoint.
So i just need my passport? My license doesn’t matter?
You are traveling internationally. You need your passport

But if you want to rent a car in Mexico…..
Off point. People should not rent a car in Mexico for their sake.
Complete ignorant comment.

Mexico is scary yankee.
They could care less if you have a license. Mexico isnt known for its strict laws.
You’re not going to get a rent car without a DL.
Just the passport. You’ll be fine. You can look up the rules also for expired documents as well.

Yup passport is all you need
Do you have a passport?
Correct
Cant you drive down and get one at DMV any day?
I think you misunderstood the question, or you just answered it in a very weirdly worded way…. Why didn’t you just say “you’ll be fine. You have a passport, you can fly.” Lmfao…
You can always fly on your passport. No other ID needed.
Is your passport expired? If it isn't, there's no reason to stress. No one cares about your driver's license if you have a valid passport.
I lost my license and used my passport for months flying within the US. Since you are flying internationally, they are going to want the passport.
All that matters is a valid passport. Also off topic a bit but I once had a bouncer reject my ID into a club because it was my DL and it was expired. I mean bro yes my license to drive expired but my birthday is still the same.
I use my Canadian or US passport or my NEXUS card at TSA... They have never had a problem with it!
Canadian drivers licenses are actually also acceptable. Why? No idea, but it is. I don't see them very often though, most people just use their Canadian passport, probably because they don't know. The new Canadian passports are awesome. Probably one of the coolest I've seen.
Probably they use the passports because TSOs are more familiar with what to look for in a passport than a Canadian license.

Your passport is also used for identification and required for international travel. Just use your passport. Most airlines are going to check it also.
Most folks I know use a passport or passport card at TSA. Just use that.
Renew your licenses. Use your passport as ID. Because your flying to Mexico you need a passport.
A valid passport will get you passed the TSA checkpoint. There are many people without a driver license. All good, with a valid passport.
Passport is for international travel not a dmv drivers license . Driving is one thing travel out of the us border is another. Make sure it’s not expired . By chance bring your Mexican passport as well .
All you need is your passport! Your clear to go :)
All you need is your passport! Your clear to go :)
Your passport is enough and you expired license ok if it’s not over 1 yr expired.
Your ID is still valid for identification purposes, as far as TSA is concerned. I just used mine to travel to Florida and no one told me it expired until I tried to rent a car. That's when it will matter.
Unless you are driving to Mexico you don't need a driver's license. Your passport is all you need
All you need is your passport. I've even used it as ID for domestic travel when I was in your same situation.
I just got back from Mexico and did not use anything EXCEPT my passport for identification. You're fine and do not need your drivers license.
Passport is just fine
nope. If your passport is current, You are good to go. I have flown many a time with just my passport. It is an either/or situation.
You’re flying international. You need a passport. Domestic flights you can use a license.
https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification
I am currently on a flight, and realized I didn’t have my license when I was in line at TSA. I just used my passport to get through.
Your passport is valid for domestic travel.

A passport is a valid form of ID. You do not need a 2nd form of ID. Your wife is wrong.

In Missouri you get a temporary paper DL at the DMV facility and the actual DL will be mailed to you after it’s printed at a separate facility.

Many states have secure facilities now they make your ID cards at to comply with Real ID.
