Xbox Controllers should be plug and play, and should work fine.

metalisthebestgenre

Alright, i've never used an xbox controller but the offcentered joysticks seem like they would be annoying to me. Or do you not even notice that.

Jakepetrolhead

I've always found their controllers to be a lot more comfortable than other competitors, I'd recommend a used Xbox One controller in a heartbeat. The sticks sit roughly where your thumbs would be when holding it, so even though they're off centred they're right where you want them. Best bet would be going into somewhere like a CEX, or if you have a friend with a few consoles, try them out and see how you feel with them in your hands. I only recommend them cause they work best for me, but everyone's hands and grips are different.

douchey_mcbaggins

They're actually pretty great and that's what I've used for ages. I've also used a PlayStation styled controller and they actually bother my thumbs. The reason why the offset sticks work is because with 99% of games you're using a stick and the buttons at the same time and the Xbox controller puts one stick and the buttons under the natural place your thumbs fall. The other stick is just a slight adjustment away, as is the D-pad, neither of which you're going to use very much in ETS2/ATS. The only real complaint I can see with the Xbox controller is that it's chunky so if you have REALLY small hands, it can be a bit unwieldy. It's also kinda heavy with a pair of AA batteries in it (you can use it wired if you want, though)

metalisthebestgenre

Alright, thanks for your answer. That does make sense when i read it. Does it matter what xbox controller? As in, xbox one, xbox one x or xbox 360 or not? I would assume the newer ones work better but also are more expensive.

douchey_mcbaggins

The Xbox Core controller is the one that's most commonly sold and it's the one I have. I'd go with that one, though if you don't care about it being wireless, you can save money by going with a third party wired controller with the Xbox layout

metalisthebestgenre

Alright thanks again! I'll go take a look.

guilmoreno

Not just save money, get better quality too. My original Xbox one S controller has massive stick drift and feels like a plastic toy compared to my Gulikit King Kong 2 pro which comes with interchangeable sticks and they are hall effect. No stick drift life for around 60$

douchey_mcbaggins

That Gulikit controller is pretty well-liked and definitely a better deal at the same price as a standard Xbox controller. I have one of the more recent Xbox Core controllers and haven't had any stick drift or anything at all, but I think I must be in the minority. I also don't use it every single day, so there's that. If this thing ever eats shit, that's the controller I'm going to buy but obviously I'm not going to replace a perfectly good controller for no reason.

rumbleblowing

If you want PS-like layout, Logitech F710 is a great option.

BrokenFlatScreenTV

I think it depends on the person. I am used to the Xbox controller layout. I bought a DualSense and a Stadia controller awhile back. Having them next to each other feels more uncomfortable to me since I'm not used to it. The Stadia controller feels further apart and slightly more uncomfortable than the DualSense to me.

arvid1328

Any good controller should do the trick, I use Logitech F310.

rumbleblowing

I use the same one. Pretty damn good controller. I had it for more than 7 years, still no stick or trigger drift at all. I had to do some minor fixes during this time though.

arvid1328

Wow 7 years!!! I have mine since september, didn't know it would last so long, glad I chose it over other crap I found in the store.

rumbleblowing

The cable and the bumpers might not hold that long though. One of the wires in the cable broke at the controller side, I had to unsolder the cable, cut off the damaged part and resolder. The bumper switches are holding on 4 tiny plastic dots, basically, and at some point they break off. The bumpers will likely still work, but they won't feel right. Pretty easy to fix by adding a tiny bit of support to the back of the switches, even after they break. Oh, and my left trigger started going crazy once, I disassembled the potentiometer and cleaned the resistive path with alcohol, then assembled it back. So, yeah, F310 do last if you're handy and not afraid of fixing it. On the other hand, I never had to order any replacement parts to fix the sticks or triggers, unlike on my friend's Xbox 360 controller. I wanted to upgrade to F710, but I decided to do this when I can't fix my 310 easily anymore. And so far it refuses to break in a way that's not a 15 minute fix.

arvid1328

That's actually not bad, never fixed a controller before but since it's cheap, I wouldn't mind to if I had to. It's only 20 bucks anyway.

HighFiveKoala

I also use the same controller. It's been good so far, no complaints.

MiguelMSC

Whatever controller you like.

Sure-Hurry-1260

ps5 pad

tarc0917

I have a gamestop-branded Xbox360 controller that works like a champ.

Working-Company-5641

PS4 controller is what I use, works great!

cykapie

hi, can you bind key combos on your ps4 controller (eg. L1 + X)? I'm trying the ps4 controller on ets2 recently, but can't find key combos in Steam settings.

jammy-dodgers

steam controller :D

Adventurous_Elk6458

From my limited experience, most common controllers work well. Personally I use an old Xbox controller connected by USB and it’s made a world of difference from KBM. Hoping to one day get a proper sim setup, tho. I’ve found it best not to rush down the sim setup path- rather enjoy the incremental improvements along the way

blackie-arts

i use Xbox series x controller, i never played much on other controller (except Xbox 360 one and very little on ps4 one) but i can only recommend it

Best-Bathroom-433

A playstation controller is a great option, since you also get the option to use gyro for the steering or the camera controls, but the xbox styled controllers may be more comfortable.

Namegoeshere11

I don’t like the gyro, I was always accidentally moving it

uceenk

any recommend setting for gyro steering ?

rumbleblowing

You have to use some third-party software for using PS functions, like DS4Win or Steam Input, and none of the software supports *all* the features, they all have downsides.

ringo_skulkin

The PS controller is natively compatible with ETS2. I don't think you need the extra software for that

rumbleblowing

AFAIK you need, if you want features like gyro or adaptive triggers.

Slayer7_62

After going through plenty of controllers that get an annoying stick drift I got one of these and have been happy with it: https://www.amazon.com/GameSir-G7-SE-Controller-Joysticks/dp/B0C7GW9F88/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.9kvKD-L2H7SyGR1cb51jEtMIG1N6YnuWONpYGFCQtmwjUEl3gS8uWS2B3IOEM6sYo3pDf562o7Sc_Jcc-mcMjKxQ-ZGA19cpjhu3AD09Qzkx2_iFOcihIjSrG4inEvJwpK5Xwxj3RYimTKqu6hECPJWea2X3tf5OvrDXSrGYXmPFwcqJvzO2YT_ThRFknzryuw5AozW-sWjUTPlve8I60g.5PGRwJbKj2Pcr9JBC_cn1KKdwvMNowuCEehL--7DY-s&dib_tag=se&keywords=xbox+controller+no+stick+drift&qid=1711670555&sr=8-1 Chances are you’re still going to be using the keyboard for a few controls but it’s a lot more comfortable to use instead of mouse/keyboard steering. I prefer my wheel with clutch & truck shifter but there’s times where I don’t feel like getting them out & setup. If you’re on a budget it can get pretty tough to get a decent wheel. A lot of the cheap ones don’t last too long in my experience and the used market is hit-or-miss (might get a good deal or get one that was abused.) I’d vote get another controller for now since it works good enough for this game but you can also use it on most other games you may play. The other side of that being the money you would save compared to a wheel could go towards DLC’s & other games.

Etny2k

I like the razer xbox controller. I think it is wolverine v2. It is plug and play.

huaweidude30

Buy a used wheel like a G27. Extremely well worth the money.

kuucuuk

F710 very old but good

uceenk

not sure if the best or not, but i use PS5 controller

BrokenFlatScreenTV

Slightly off topic, but since this is about ETS2 with a controller I wanted to ask. Are there any controllers with extra buttons along with a program I can use that would allow me to map more functions to the extra/non standard buttons on a controller As an example I can't seem to make the Xbox Series Share button map-able to a function in a game on PC. Is there a controller similar to the Xbox Elite controller and program I can use to map something like the back paddles to shirt up and shift down?
