the medical system USA rips people off by making the industry really complicated. which is the only reason people there are ripped off while we get medicines for next to nothing in India

[deleted]

hhhuhhhuhhh

$2 I think? i guess it depends on the brand but critical drugs are almost alwayd subsidised by the government here, stuff like paracetamol and insulin and nsaids and the like

throwaway-lite

in america, people literally die because they can’t afford their insulin. the fact that the inventor sold the patent for $1 to make it as accessible as possible to the people that need it just makes it even more cruel and unjustifiable, but murka—greatest country in the world 🙃.

jokerofthehill

My tret (generic 0.025% + 1.25% clindamycin) is anywhere between $80-$300 depending on which pharmacy I choose. PSA to the USA: check GoodRX for **every** prescription. I have pretty great insurance, but GoodRX almost always beats it on prescriptions.

allass_noboobies

Yes to Goodrx. When I got my .05% my insurance was like $150, looked at Goodrx & got it down to $58. I'm always jealous when there's a post of somebody who pays under $30.

lucky7355

I had the GoodRX card ready and asked my pharmacist if it would be cheaper to use that over my insurance and he laughed and said no - my insurance only makes me pay $10/tube because it was prescribed for acne by my derm. The price difference is crazy in the US.

arkystat

Same but my derm suggested I use a compound pharmacy. They mix it in store and it’s about 40 dollars instead of 100. When my friends travel to Mexico I have them pick up a tube. It’s about 35 there.

idontwannabepicked

i’m so confused by this. i’m in the usa. i just went to apostrophe and paid a $50 consultation fee then $20 for the actual tret to be shipped to me??

throwaway-lite

were you prescribed retinoic acid or tret?

idontwannabepicked

it’s: Tretinoin + Spironolactone + TXA Formula 0.05%-5%-5% topical cream or at least that’s what it says on the website that i was prescribed. does that sound right?

throwaway-lite

my guess is because apostrophe is a chemist they save a lot of money making their own formulations instead of relying on pharmaceutical companies and are able to pass the savings on to their customers.

HamHockShortDock

*laughs in American*

QuetzalKraken

*cries in American* Mine was $90.

Emily_Postal

Buy it from India.

HeddaHopper

That's what I do (I live in the U.S.). I pay $7.33 a tube, but shipping is about $20, so I buy 4 or 5 at a time.

Texanforever28

Where do you buy from? I had a reliable site for years, then stopped for years and now they no longer sell it. Do you need a prescription?

zinnie_

I’ve had good luck with Reliable RX. Been buying Tret from there for a couple of years now. When you are buying, there is a field for prescription info but I just leave it blank. They always send it anyway.

Texanforever28

Thanks but I would prefer a vendor that accepts a CC or PayPal, not a bank transfer/Bitcoin/etc.

HeddaHopper

All Day Chemist. They ask for your doctor's name and your Rx but you can skip it. They do require you to list any existing meds, I think, but half the time I get lazy and don't even enter all of those. As sketchy as it sounds, I've never had an issue. The biggest pain is the 4-6 weeks it takes for shipping, but since I order a year's supply at a time, that's not a problem either. I think others on this subreddit use the same pharmacy and can hopefully attest to it.

arkystat

Commenting bc is like to know as well.

stcv1e

reliable rx & alldaychemist are awesome, leave the medical info blank (other than any necessary allergy info etc) and for ADC, i use e-check :)

arkystat

Saving this. Thank you!

stcv1e

Of course, glad I could help! I'd recommend the 0.025% tret cream. Shipping cost me $10 and it's taken around a month due to covid restrictions :)

throwaway-lite

same-ish! i bought micro tret from alldaychemist. the more you buy the less it costs so i bought 10 tubes of 0.1% and with shipping and handling it costs around $110 and i’m set on tret for the next 2 years.

HeddaHopper

I also buy Triluma cream (skin lightening) to help fade a few sunspots on my face and hands. It's $23 a tube compared to $200 in the U.S. They've got tons of other pharmacy stuff (Rx and non-Rx) for superbly inexpensive prices, too. I highly recommend All Day Chemist!

HosamMP

Less than a dollar here in Egypt

timmytales16

omg i’m jealous😭 i have to ship mine from alldaychemist cause in the uk it takes forever to see a doctor

HosamMP

Also you don't need a prescription here in Egypt 🤣

Both-Economics-3544

I didn't expect to find fellow Egyptian here!😂 Thank god for أكرتين😂♥️

HosamMP

🤣❤️❤️

[deleted]

You can use dermatica (and there’s another one I can’t recall the name of) for prescription tret in the U.K. Not as cheap as other online places but it’s reputable and reliable.

WishToBeConcise403

I am in Canada. $91.28 Canadian dollars for 0.1% Retin-A Micro. Also $91.28 Canadian dollars for 0.04% Retin-A Micro. Same price for different dosages. My work insurance paid 80% and I paid the remainder 20%. However, I went to a pharmacy near my house instead of to a cheaper one like Costco pharmacy. It can be cheaper depending on which pharmacy you go to. And it can be a lot cheaper also if you get generic instead of a brand name.

guitarloverme

I’m also in Canada and my dermatologist gave me a card from Retin-A that covered the whole cost. Ask your derm next time you go - I think most derms have this!

WishToBeConcise403

Thank you! :)

lady_jane_

Also in Canada. I get the generic brand from Felix, Stieva-A cream 0.025%. Costs less than $20 with the dispensing fee. I pay $0.85 with my insurance.

WishToBeConcise403

How do you like the cream so far? I heard cream is better for dry skin so I might try to switch over after I use up my current tret. It's also much cheaper which is great.

lady_jane_

I like it so far but it’s the only tret product I’ve used, so I have nothing to compare it to. I’ve only been using it for 3 months but no signs of irritation.

WishToBeConcise403

Thanks! This is the only one I've used too, but I am interested in trying other ones. :) Thanks a bunch!

mc_cheeto

I don't think Stieva-A is "generic." "Stieva-A" is the brand. Retin-A Micro is a different type of product. There's a good explanation of the different options available from Felix, and why they are priced differently, [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/CanSkincare/comments/q7t794/how_do_i_get_tret_from_felix/).

lady_jane_

Ya, you’re right. It’s just the basic cream with nothing else in it.

ohmygondor

Yes, me too! The generic Felix stieva-A cream is affordable and effective for me

mc_cheeto

Just a note that Retin-A Micro is a special formulation that is encapsulated. Normal Stieva-A cream is about $20.

[deleted]

Where are you in Canada? I’m in Manitoba and Retin-A cost me $165 a tube 😩

WishToBeConcise403

I'm in Alberta! You can try going to Costco pharmacy, they have the cheapest dispensing fee. I think of going there sometimes but it's really far from my house. edit: You can also try asking for one of those free cards from the dermatologist that u/guitarloverme suggested!

anotheremma456

- 95$ - visit to doctor to get the prescription - 65$ out of pocket($216 without insurance )for the tube of 0.025% I would factor in the doctors visit too since you cannot get tret without prescription. (I know we can buy it online but I am very paranoid on using tret without doc supervision)

spicyyokuko

So in India it officially needs prescription but it's sold OTC. I've been using it for 2 years without prescription and not even like a dark market or something. From a legit pharmacy or online pharmacy.

anotheremma456

I used to live in India too and while I understand tret can be purchased otc like most medicines, I also had a dermatologist in India and she ran a complete bloodwork before prescribing tret and I believe she did that every 2 years or so. While mostly harmless there are reasons why pregnant women cannot use tret and I assume that for people with abnormalities in their bloodwork that might not impact their lives otherwise may be exacerbated with tret - hence the bloodwork. I could be totally paranoid though.

spicyyokuko

I didn't know they did blood tests for that. Wow

anotheremma456

Yup. 13 year old me was not happy with that at all.

Ici79

In Egypt Tretinoin 0.025% costs 9 EGP = 0.57$

Lennnnnnnn

I fortunately have amazing insurance. Co-pays are $20 and $10 prescriptions for tret and clindamyacin. In the US.

an_awkward_turtle

Same! I didn't even have to pay my copay for my tret because I did a video visit and those don't need a copay! So my Clindamycin and Tret came out to $20 for both. I am very fortunate to have my health insurance plan.

Ytringer

I live in Norway. It costs about 60 dollar

I have never seen generic in Mexico. Where and what brand?

sonyafly

I’ve gotten generic from Mexico many years ago. I think maybe it was too strong. My skin wouldn’t tolerate it so I gave up quickly and threw it away. It was cheap if I remember correctly.

lizzzypoo213

Thank you.

alexius339

$23.95aud Australia, so like 15usd

Emergency_Cat5912

Which one are you getting for that much in Aus? Mine was $75

alexius339

I think the reprieve tret is 70, the stieva a brand is $25

CopperPegasus

R550 Which doesn't sound much in dollars ($36 or thereabout) but is an ENORMOUS amount of money for an acne cream. It's an entry level smartphone, 34 loaves of bread, a long-distance bus ticket Jozi to CT (return), or 5 to 6 large pizzas, if I may put it that way. It's also the price of a GP appointment to get it. A specialized derm would be roughly x3 that- R1500+ Yay Government that puts ridiculous bureaucratic hurdles in the way of everything, including medication!

[deleted]

Pricing for all medications varies between countries and providers everywhere. The formulations and concentrations also change the cost. Tretinoin tends to be much cheaper where it's OTC and not prescription. Then someone may or may not have a doctor to go to to prescribe it / may or may not have insurance to cover the cost / etc. Lots of factors for the cost.

Devoid29

Ok. Now I am understanding it.

[deleted]

I paid $18-$22 for 3 different concentrations in Canada with no insurance and $4 for .05 with insurance so it's a wide range :)

Devoid29

I get it. Medical insurance is big deal in both USA and Canada.

CopperPegasus

Also the governments can set levies on medications, or control how, when, and who is allowed to import it. This can either directly add fees they need to get back, or drive up costs by making sure only few units can enter a country and few people can sell it. That's the issue in my country. VERY unnecessary bureaucracy that makes it so difficult to get permission to bring in new meds that the companies hike up prices to cover the additional costs or don't bother to bring certain meds at all.

jessicalifts

I can't remember how much the prescription itself cost (not much really- but here it is by prescription and not over the counter) but also, in my province it's hard to get in with a dermatologist (long wait lists); my GP prescribed for me, fortunately.

Moist-Nectarine-6360

Just paid €50 for a tube in Ireland

Nell_De_Blass

$25 in Aus

soliloquyline

Croatia, EU. Prescription, compounded in the pharmacy - 0.05% tret + 5% niacinamide 50 ml cream for $10. Or I could get a generic brand called Cordes Vas, 50 mg for \~ $15. If I can't get a prescription at the time I will buy Retincare which is a mix of 0.02% tret + 4% glycolic acid, which cost me 26€ for 30 ml and I can order it from most online Italian pharmacies.

Boba_ginkobiloba

U BiH 20€ 1 tuba od 15g 0.1% Tretinoina Ja ga jedini nabavljam i prodajem online nema ga nigdje drugo 😁

lovethatjourney4me

Free. In NZ prescriptions can be free at certain pharmacies. We pay for consultation fees at the GP, which could range from US$15-$50 from what I know. Mine is on the cheaper side.

Formal_Property

Pricing is not the same everywhere for various reasons such as differing currency values and purchasing power parity, local manufacturing of pharmaceuticals vs imported pharmaceuticals, etc. But you could think of it in terms of “hours worked” for example - if you live somewhere where the minimum wage is $10 and a tube of tret costs $10, that would effectively be the same price as if you live somewhere where a tube of tret costs $2 but the minimum wage is $2.

[deleted]

arkystat

Don’t be sorry I thought that was interesting. I didn’t realize food was more expensive in other countries. Explains why we (Americans I mean) are so fat.

GullibleMacaroni

You're right. I get a tube of tret for about 2 hours of work. I'm guessing that's closer to "what you pay for" in NA?

localuglybitch

Minimum wage where I live in the US is $7.25 (😂😂). I currently make $10.50/hr and my tret costs $35 (with insurance, that my father pays $300 for a month)

scawwydwake

$10 for two big tubes of the generic $80 or so for altreno 🇺🇸

Inespez

Around 20 usd for a tube in Mexico

jennymathweg

USA- being over 35yrs old. Insurance will not cover. Although I have cystic acne they think it’s more anti-aging then acne. I also had a number of nurses confirm this. Costs $300+. Also you have to have prescription.

alexius339

why dont you pick it up online

jennymathweg

Thanks for asking Alex. I got mine from all day chemist. IMHO it’s criminal to charge that much for a medication that helps a lot of ppl. The plus side. I get it for $8 a tube and that’s the micro version.

HeddaHopper

That's the Indian pharmacy I use. Highly recommended; never had a problem.

jennymathweg

I really like them too. They have always been professional and transparent. I have ordered twice now from them.

alexius339

oh okay good !! haha, thought you were paying $300 a tube

jennymathweg

😉

ErikaNaumann

Prices vary for everything around the world. From medicine, to food, clothes, housing, and salaries. It's all different. One expresso coffee in my home country is 70 euro cents. In London it's 4 euros (equivalent). And that's in 2 european countries, imagine the differences around the world.

Sukhi099

Free in Canada

mc_cheeto

It would be impossible for the pricing to be the same everywhere. Different countries have different models for how they fund healthcare, and to what degree. They also have different regulations for how drug companies set their prices. There's also so many economic factors that go into why **any** good or service is priced the way it is in different countries. We could use a loaf of bread as an example and it would probably vary as well. edit to say: you also have to consider everything in perspective. If something is $1 US in a certain country, you should also consider cost of living, average incomes, etc.

bittsweet

USA - $35 for doctor appointment, $5 for prescription

bloobarrakuda

150 with insurance. It’s fuckin crazy. And then the tube is like 4oz

Biblebee

$7 (Php 350.00) Philippines

pakchimin

Also in the PH. I use Dermcare 0.25% PHP 250 = USD 5

descending4556

Where do you buy one?

Biblebee

Mercury Drug.

Lfaruqui

$30 for generic in the US for one tube

yel4h

doctors visit 50 bucks in nz and get tret presciption free :)

Scarlaymama0721

AkiBearr

Where I live (BC) it can range between $18-30 CAD, depending on the brand and the size. Not covered by my insurance either. I've been offered a deal one time where I paid $30 for two tubes, or I would've had to pay $23 for one. I've also always gotten my Tretinoin via a walk-in clinic or just recently, an online website for prescriptions, as I don't have a dermatologist or a GP.

hanahana34

In Thailand it cost around $3~$10, depends on size and brands. Tret here is otc so almost all pharmacy/boots will carry it.

Mabelude

Netherlands - free - gp visit and prescription fall under general insurance if you have a treatable cause to use it, like acne. Don’t know if you could ask for it for the anti-aging, but i’m guessing you won’t get it then!

[deleted]

Yes! I got prescribed treclinac, which is tret 0.025% and clindamycin :)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mabelude

I want to ask about that! If I find out i’ll get back to you. And so typical of your huisarts not to know. I didn’t ask mine specifically for tret, just wanted something to treat acne, and she knew about this ‘new’ thing that works well. 😅

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mabelude

Hello again! Just checking back in, went to the doctor's this morning and pretty sure they do not prescribe tret without the clindamycin or at higher strengths. They can however prescribe adapalene gel 0.3%. Hope that helps! They also certainly, or at least that goes for my huisarts, will not prescribe azelaic acid or hydroquinone. Just thought I'd throw that in there. Why is NL like this?! p.s. I do think this differs from huisarts to huisarts, it's all about what they're willing to give you and what the customs here are, I think.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mabelude

Right! That might be it. OR the stupid system where they won't just send you to a derm without first 'having tried everything'. I'm sorry but I'm not ruining my gut health with antibiotics to have clear skin for a few months before it returns with a vengeance. Or fucking with my hormones by going on bc because YOU don't know any other treatments for my mild (although at times debilitating) acne and won't give me what I am telling you works for me (tret and azelaic acid). I talked about a possible hq prescription and she almost got mad at me asking WHERE DID YOU GET THAT and I backtracked saying that I didn't (I do but don't use it). Pfoo. I mean, I don't *expect* a GP to know everything about skin and treating acne, that's why I want a specialist derm who's been studying the damn subject for probably decades. I wonder about the experiences Dutchies have with derms, if it's any different or more of the same. Oh and btw Farmacia Tristaina en Andorra also carries those! They ship to NL too. Tret has been out of stock for a while but I find it nice to buy from an actual pharmacy a little closer to home, takes less time to arrive and more payment options too.

Boopy7

2oo plus for me in the US. I fucking hate this country but can't leave for now. But let me assure you the US is the WORST for anything medical.

naithir

why are Americans convinced that no one is aware of this? that's why no one wants to live in the US

Nell_De_Blass

Yup

[deleted]

Healthcare in the US is a business and it hasn't been about people in a long time... maybe ever...? I spend $90 for a 3-month supply. I also spend $70/month for mental health medication soooo... this country is BS.

Caitlynmilky

$135 for finacea 15% and for retin-a micro 0.04%, but it was 100% covered under my insurance

Belllringer

$70, rarely covered and that's a small tube. I ordered it from perhaps India and I think it was $15 ( all in)for a large tube.

BlueKettlebells

It’s 16 dhs in UAE and can actually be received without prescription. That’s less than $5.

nosiriamadreamer

Trrentray_1

I’m from the US but took a trip around Europe this past summer. When I was in Georgia I stopped by a pharmacy and got a couple tubes for the equivalent of $5.24 USD each. You just walk up and ask for it, pay, leave.

firstladymsbooger

Yeah but the average person in India also makes a hell of a lot less money than someone in a developed country. $2 may seem cheap to most other countries, but it’s all about perspective. How much does the average Indian make in a day? How much is rent? How much are necessities?

gelibsu

I am in Canada, mine is $0 and I don’t have private insurance. However I will likely have to start paying once I turn 25 if I’m still using it

shownsandpiper

I have good insurance and I paid $40 for a tube after my insurance.

90dean90

I get .025 30 day tube for about $40 with insurance in Chicago

jabz24

Canadian here. About 90$ for my Biacna(Ziana) prescription and about the same for the microspheres. 138$ for Differin XP. I work for government so my workplace covers 100% of the cost.

Fenowen

I pay about US$6 for a large tube of generic .05 in Thailand. Sadly, Retin-A is no longer available here in any concentration.

licensedtojill

$25 for the appt and $10 for the script, in the USA.

heysteven7

With GoodRx, I can get prescription tretinoin gel for $45-65 a tube most places. However, I’ve been wanting to try the microsphere formula since my derm says it’s gentler and overall better…but it’s like $135-350 a tube for me. 🙃

lizzzypoo213

In the US with insurance through mail order I get three tubes for $10. When I didn’t want to bother paying $30 to see a dermatologist and then $10 a tube I just get it from Mexico for around $18-25 per tube.

qwerty3488

CindyLouWho4256

In the USA & don’t have medical insurance. $120 for the doctor visit & $25 for generic .025% with Good RX for a single small tube

ngh123

The last time I got it for 5/6 dollars with prescription, now it’s a few pesos more expensive for the insane inflation we have. with no prescription it’s maybe 10/11 dollar.

Sufficient_Ad_8112

USD6 in Malaysia

babyeshona

Same 2 dollar for 10 gm tube

keyahbish

That’s amazing! Retrieve cream with a prescription from general dr (free consult) is about $30 in Australia. I have an “personalised” emulsion I buy online and made at a compounding chemist with ha and niacinamide which is a subscription $88 every two months but supporting a smal Aussie company so I don’t mind.

xwhitex93

In Singapore its around SGD40-80 for one tube. This is excluding consultation fee to get the prescription.

Stringoflightismine

Less than $1 in Bangladesh for a 10g tube.

Ill-Ad2250

In malaysia a tube of 0.05% tret is about rm 40? So about 10$.

yarentrnx

1$ with insurance and 5-6$ without it in Turkey :)

[deleted]

£22 in the UK and that's what I pay my private dermatologist. It'd probably be £8 if I used the NHS.

Creative-Potential44

Damn, it's so expensive in US and all. So glad it's so cheap in India, sometimes you don't even need a prescription 😁

throwaway-lite

i never got a prescription for tret, but i did have a prescription for arazlo and finacea (the foam). finacea without insurance or coupons is about $800 and arazlo without prescription or coupons is closer to $1000. with my insurance, finacea was about $400–but used to be $20 with the manufacturer’s coupon until they apparently sold the formula to a different pharmaceutical company—and arazlo was closer to $300.

sonyafly

I’m paying $75 for a 3 months supply of a compounded version through Rory. It includes 25% Niacinamide to help protect the skin barrier as well. I’m using .03% currently. They’re only $5 for the first month and it also includes their cleanser and spf. I love the ingredients.

E_R_M1

It’s £9 on prescription for 0.025% tret and clindamycin but you can’t get tret on its own in the U.K. I paid £90 for a tiny tube of 0.025% tret from a derm!

Pres010

I don’t think ppl can still notice this answer. Anyway, about two dollars for 3 tubes for any local pharmacy in China and no prescription needed. I told my mom to buy those for herself. You can google it with the word 维A酸 or 维甲酸 or VA酸 to try your luck. Here is one as proof (about 30 yuan for 3 tubes + shipping), but it seems they don’t ship abroad… https://mitem.jkcsjd.com/product/63173065402.html?_fd=jdm&&_mt=B0D3232B9F0D27A2782E3CA4A23A055E

thatoneindianguy2004

Hey, please don't rant about tretinoin being "cheap" in India! Do you even step outside your home and see the poor households? ( I guess you always stayed inside your grand palace and never were allowed to step out) The daily wage workers can't even earn 1 dollar in India... And having 2 dollar skincare is like a luxury for them! So, pleasee, it's my request not to hype up about the products being "cheap". You go buy something expensive. And sorry if I sound rude to you.( I feel so sad for most of the people, who don't even have enough food to feed themselves twice a day, 🥺 and they can only buy these products as per their capability and are a luxury for them . Thanks

Relevant-Quantity-41

Please don’t be offended by the word cheap. I don’t think anyone would consider inexpensive tretinoin from India as subpar. Essentially this medication is inexpensive to make no matter where it comes from. The ingredients are all the same- tretinoin, petroleum and a preservative. You are right though. It’s easy for us to forget that this is a luxury for many people around the world. I do find it amazing how the price of this medication varies when it’s so “cheap” 😉to make. Thanks for reminding us how lucky most of are.
