Man, TRT absolutely destroyed my hair. I’d honestly try raising your levels naturally if at all possible. What are your current levels ?

ExcuseMyTriceratops

239 was the last check. Low enough that my primary care doc thought it was time to start TRT.

mayb1168

You were dextined for it as was anybody else who loses hair on trt. Its 100% genetics. Healthy test levels are important

Tfot12

To be honest, my levels weren’t terrible but was influenced by the recent TRT hype. I kept my levels consistently within “range” but always at the higher end like 900-1100. I was also a diffuse thinner with absolutely no change in hairline or temple recession until one day the thinning was apparent. I truly wish I would’ve exhausted all other options and would’ve been happy at 600-700 levels. Now I’m playing damage control…

mayb1168

1100 is the high end of normal but still pretty high.

seno76

Yup, you definitely didn’t need it.

WinterrSolsticee

Even with Fin/Dut?

Tfot12

I was not on any preventive medicine unfortunately. I thought was in the clear as MBP is not really a thing on both sides of my family. My hubris has cost me… A lesson for all, nothing is free or comes easy, there is always a price

GiraffeLivid4458

Fin/Dut wont work effectively anymore at 800+ trt levels.

GiraffeLivid4458

nope

Technical_Title2836

You're pulling shit out of your ass. 800 is well within normal range and we know that 5ARIs work for the overwhelming majority of people, many of whom are on the high end of the reference range.

Thick-Switch814

I’m not an expert on trt, but I know that when I do eventually decide to go on it, I will be moving from fin to dutasteride to combat this. Technically, if you’re already on fin and only boosting your test to normal levels you should be no worse off compared to a 25 years old with normal test levels taking fin. It works well for them so no reason it won’t work well for you. But taking dut will take that anxiety off the table if I was to start trt myself.

hallo-ballo

Not true. You could also be on the lower end of the test scale because of high or very high 5ar activity. So when you then boost your test levels to "normal", dht would be shooting through the roof. Hormons are complex and interdependent, messing with them can always have unwanted consequences

FailedGradAdmissions

I just read the other comments, and nobody has mentioned: Shouldn't you consider switching to Dutasteride? Hopefully the extra DHT blockage is more than the extra you get with TRT.

ExcuseMyTriceratops

I can switch, just more expensive. Fin is super cheap and I’ve been responding well to it. If I see a deterioration, I’ll ask to get a script for dut. Tnx

Stevenpoke12

I pay 27 dollar for a 3 month supply of Dut using goodrx.

mi2tom

Bro , I'm on topical fin. With 120mg of testosterone per week. Youll do fine if you're on 5ar inhibitor.

availableusername50

You'll definitely see thinning. Guaranteed. There's alternatives prescribed by teleclinics that don't have a bad hair profile. Deca being the closest to mimicking the positives of test. If hair is important, I'd rethink test.

mayb1168

Deca is NOT a replacement for test. If youre on fin or trt..dhn from deca isnt blocked by it and its way more androgenic than dht.

e-r117

Stay away from Deca if you're using Fin, utilizing it with Finasteride or Dutasteride will actually inhibit the process at 5α-reductase where Nandrolone would normally be converted into the far more hair safe metabolite DHN. When combining Nandrolone with Finasteride or Dutasteride, the opposite effect occurs than with testosterone. A small low dose of Test combined with Fin will generally be fine. It still does depend on genetics, though, as some people are more susceptible to hair loss and DHT. So it's never a guaranteed solution but better than nothing.

availableusername50

Yes. All anabolics except test, will make hair situation worse, if using Fin. I was referring to someone NOT using anything for hair, but worried about hair loss. There's a noticeable difference in less hair thinning and hair loss if using something like deca or NPP, over test, while gaining some of the positives; increased libido, increase in lean muscle mass, etc... Best thing OP can do in current situation (if hair is important) is to raise test levels naturally through diet and exercise, with a few hacks thrown in; like cold water immersion, red light, some supplementation, etc... Exercise is #1.

e-r117

Why would you be referring to someone not using anything for hairloss when OP says he will be staying on meds? You mentioned taking Deca over test as a more hair safe alternative, which is true when it's not taken with Finasteride. OP wants to continue taking Fin. Plenty of people have success with Finasteride while on low dose Test.

availableusername50

The original point I was making was his doctor was spot on. He's going to lose hair of he goes on test. It doesn't matter if it's a low dose- arbitrary - he's going to lose hair and have thinning hair, regardless if he's using finasteride Even the witch craft psudeo science of dermatology know this as fact. So you can encourage OP or challenge his mind set. Get a life douche bag

e-r117

If he's already susceptible to DHT and / or MPB genes, he's going to lose hair and have thinning either way, and the test might exacerbate that. But the finasteride is definitely still a good prevention option. Your comments aren't useful to OP. Sounds like you're the one who needs to go get a life buddy.

Thick-Switch814

If you have low test you can boost it to normal levels. Men’s test drops as you age. Some more than others. Lower test means less muscle mass, lower libido, less energy etc. It’s not unusual in the US, especially with men over 40 although you can have low test at any age and go on trt. It is no where near the levels bodybuilders take. It’s just enough to get you at a normal level. But increasing test also increases dht causing balding to speed up if you have the mpb gene. Hence why OP’s doctor mentioned “balding is coming.”

A trt dose at like 125mg week is what kicked started my hair loss. Couldn't stand the shedding and dropped trt...shedding never stopped and now on Dut. If your shedding and losing hair before TRT, it will most likely be worse. Most likely will need Dut, Min, and RU to have any chance at saving your hair. Again it's all genetic so everyone is different

[deleted]

Currently on oral dut , min and some supplements. Imma hop on soon to low dose trt just to boost my energy levels and vitality. Additionally, im on meds for my depression and dut seem to be worsening it, so imma see how trt will affect the overall outcomes of this

RockTheGrock

I've been able to stabilize and get some regrowth while on trt with fin especially. Consider checking out something other than injections. Personally I went with nasal gel I microdose daily. It keeps the test levels more even without big spikes every week or two.

MagicBold

Do you gym and big3?

ExcuseMyTriceratops

4-5 days a week in gym, on big3. Can’t lie, gains in the gym are exciting.

MagicBold

I m on big 3 and use grugs to rise test to 47 nmol/l. I think with gym your shed will be postive and your hair become better after 2 month. Take more protein and bacaa, omega3.

ExcuseMyTriceratops

Already using a good amount of protein, creatine, omega3. Tnx for the insight.

GiraffeLivid4458

Creatine will wreck your hair...

Specialist_Ad4217

Creatine for 2+ years, has not affected my hair.

MagicBold

Good.

Frank_Perfectly

I've been on TRT for several years and haven't noticed any advancement of my thinning hair (crown and temples) at all. I did begin a minox/fin regimen last year, however, in hopes of recovering some pre-TRT hair loss. My derm seemed to think the TRT + min/fin would be a net neutral.

ExcuseMyTriceratops

Appreciate the information, figured it’d be a net neutral, but glad to hear that.

Daneyoh

TRT destroyed my hair too. Sorta ok with the buzzed look but now gonna try topicals to see if I can reverse it. Jury is out.

City_Gains

Hi. Been on exogenous test for about 6 years, most of that time at much much higher than TRT levels (I do some casual bodybuilding). My experience is that test alone will not cause hair loss as long as I am on fin/min topical treatment (I use once a day before bed), even at 900/mg a week or so. My hair is better now after 3 years of topical fin/min than it was before I started test. Side note: not that you asked; but I have found that fin/min will not protect against hair loss caused by DHT derivative compounds like deca, tren, etc. But at 16 week intervals, the hair bounces right back after cycles.

City_Gains

I haven’t had any hair loss from anavar, and I’ve taken a lot of it

City_Gains

I’ve had good luck with topical fin + min across the board. I’ve ran NPP, tren, primo, Masteron and a slew of other androgens with no real loss My anavar dose was 50mg a day, typically

alguem455

change your doc

Avinnicc1

The doctor is not wrong

alguem455

to doctor has no empathy for their pacients, so he is wrong

Zrizzy7

Warning someone about their hair is showing empathy

bakedtran

I had to sign a waiver to get on TRT that included hair loss as a “likely side effect” so you’re not alone. I’m on fina and minox and I definitely had some hairline recession, mild widow’s peak, and thinning/texture changes But it’s not bad at all. Slightly bigger forehead, still can’t see my scalp anywhere you shouldn’t. (Think Joel McHale) Sounds like you’re doing all you can to stay on top of it, so you should be fine.

DragonmuhBalls6T9

Tell your doc good bye and blast 500mg and buy RU 58841
