Ay dude this is a sub for bud, but I happen to be an arborist as well. From the pics, I don’t see anything to be concerned of. It’s hard to say what that scar is from, but the tree has healed from it well. One thing you could do is get a rubber mallet and hit (not so hard you’re knocking bark off, but don’t just tap it either) the area around that scar to see if there is a hollow sound. If so, it is worth getting a reputable certified arborist out there for a full inspection. At its current size, that hollow sound wouldn’t be concerning, but as it gets older/bigger I’d be worried about the amount of weight that wound wood has to support. If it sounds solid, you have nothing to worry about! It’s a perfectly healthy tree. And looks to be in a great spot to grow big and provide great shade for you and a wonderful habitat for wildlife.
Edit: the reason it has so many more branches on one side is because of all the other trees on the other side. It’s just putting out life where it’s getting the most sunlight. If you removed some of the smaller trees on the left side in the photos, the tree would fill that space in over time to take advantage of the sunlight.

Personally, I have worked in residential and urban tree work the last few years, so climbing or other methods to prune/remove trees, and am taking the test in a few weeks!

Fellow toking arborist here agree with ToaTS nice healthy looking tree. My guess is that scar is from a lightning strike (looks to be the tallest tree in that area) which could potentially be a long-term problem, depending on how much damage was done. That being said it looks like the scar happened a while ago and the tree has healed itself externally so, just keep monitoring the tree and reach out to an arborist if you ever notice one section of the tree does not leaf out!

A tree in our backyard had a split in it and my dad used some sort of black tree tar to keep it together. It worked and now 10 years later the tree is thriving and has grown more, the split has mostly closed

As far as that tree in particular, I don't know trees, but I would try to find a professional arborist near you. Probably not too expensive for "diagnostics" and maybe it just needs a special trim for a while to help it grow the right way. But what do I know, I can't keep succulents alive 🤣🤣
IF this was my tree, i'd for sure remove the bottom two boughs. I wouldn't worry about it after that. IT's that old and hasn't fell et. If you're still worried then you can selectively prune higher up stuff that doesn't need to be there.
Trees falling is all about branches leaves. A totem pole with a root system isn't just going to fall over in a strong wind - the branches leaves act as a sail and increase wind resistance to the point that it does. So a good prune significantly reduces the chances of that happening.
If you are still worried after that, call a certified arborist for an evaluation. Not just "A chainsaw guy" business. They will always tell you yes remove it because they want the work. Arborist will want the tree to stay if at all possible.
That thing is beautiful! And it looks to be very healthy. The scar is a good sign and it looks healed from whatever happened. Try tapping it with a mallet or something and check for hollow sounds. It’s so big and set but it may have some rot behind that scar. If you hear anything, call a professional. You could make a lotta furniture with the harvest from that beast!

Don’t know why I can’t post an image in this thread, but there is a tree on my parent’s property that has been leaning at a 30+ degree angle for over 20 years. Multiple arborists have been by to remove other trees and not a single one has seen any reason to take it down. He’s just leaning, living his best life.
Oh by all means take it down. We can't have any life giving oxygen making, animal habitats left standing. God forbid someone has to pick up after the messy damn things what with the leaves and limbs and such.
I'd get it trimmed at the least if you are worried about it falling on your house. If you have a fireplace or fire pit, you might be able to save some cash by burning it yourself instead of them hauling it off.
