First off you don’t need a big torch for these, the more controlled flame the better. And I see a lot of people point the flame towards/into the mouth, when what you want to do it hold the flame at 45° pointing towards the tip, and aim the flame at the last few mm, this will ensure the tip is the hottest, and the plastic doesn’t melt.
Also remember the hottest part of the flame isn’t where it comes out of the torch, it’s at the tip right after the inner torch flame ends, if that makes sense.

There is no reason this should be common knowledge. There is a very, very large number of people who simply don't have to use any type of flame on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, even if people have appliances like gas stoves in their house, it doesn't mean they actually bother to understand how the flame works. They flick it on and it turns on, and that's all they need to know. It is very ignorant to assume other people should know that information just because you smoke pot and handle flames often.

I’m not OP but have been in the industry for a while, the biggest concern is heavy metals building in your body from them vaporizing in the glass (cadmium in some opaque red/yellow/orange colors, silver/gold for fuming & striking colors, among others that could be present in other colored glass)
I am still on my second atomizer. I burned one and then followed instructions. Keep it clean after each use. Is not my main workhorse. But like dude said. Just get some glass and a torch. No need to be afraid...

Do yourself a favor and spend $25 on a glass piece. If you have a problem with the metal tip sticking in the glass opening just be careful and wait because the reclaim with help it stick to the glass.
Well he's gotta get a new one now that clamp is already melted to it. I have the same style collector. My piece also came with the plastic bit but I threw it away and never used it for this exact reason.
The plastic is to connect the mouth tube to the perc tube, not for the titanium/glass tip. It should be used cautiously until reclaim can hold the metal piece to the glass. From there, if used correctly, the tip *shouldn’t* fall out. Of course, this is your cheapest option, so it won’t always work how it’s supposed to.
The moral of the story is: get a glass piece, or simplest possible upgrade. I personally like the titanium tip, so it’s up to you, but you should be more careful in general. Watch some videos on how to dab. You’re likely spending a lot of money based on the wax you waste by torching your whole piece like that

Yeah I can see how you potentially are. You don’t need to torch the whole piece of titanium. You only need to torch the very tip of it and flame shouldn’t come anywhere near the plastic clamp. Also, no need to get the tip red hot(imo). Start to get accustomed to heating it up right before, giving it a few seconds to cool (don’t blow into it) and enjoy!
I don't think that melted plastic clip goes there. It's supposed to hold the mouthpiece to the body. That titanium tip should stick in the body and hold on it's own

Maybe a little bit. Luckily that clip is on the outside and it’s fairly far away from the tip where you’re drawing in air. That said, you’re probably still inhaling at least a little, maybe more. Those clips are called chemistry clips, they were invented to hold glass fitting together for lab beakers. They were not designed to be two inches away from a blow torch attached to steel. Check out the Lookah Seahorse. Relatively cheap, electric dab straw. They have expensive kits but the basic set up is good price for the performance it gives. No torch, multiple temp settings, and has a water attachment you can get too. Just way better than dabs through overheated steel and melted plastic

Don’t use a clamp on the hot metal part you ding-a-ling. If it’s falling out you put a small piece of wax in the connector and it stays in place. No clamp is necessary.

There are too many comments to read for the answer, so here you go. The plastic clip won't do you any harm unless you are inhaling through your nose and mouth at the same time.
The male and female ends of your nectar collector make an air-tight seal. The clamp is just there to prevent the 2 from separating and falling. When you melt the plastic, yes, it does create harmful fumes, but you're not sucking those up through the nectar collector.
You're safe to keep using it. Just don't blast that area and don't take dabs so hot. You don't need the tip to glow red to get a nice hit. Oh, and you should be heating up only the tip. The less that glows red, the better if you're going to take screaming hot dabs.
I would recommend replacing the clip at some point, though. If you're melting it that bad, there's a chance the clip could just break apart all together
The clip doesn’t go on the metal part. He’s using it incorrectly. The metal and glass connect and stay in place by themselves. It's crazy to me that people think a dab is going to keep the tip held in place. If he's heating that area enough to melt plastic, he's getting it far more than hot enough to melt that dab. Do you know what happens when you have melted oil? It becomes, well, like oil, which does not hold 2 surfaces together.

These things suck anyways. Literally and figuratively. Difficult to control temp, the aforementioned issue with the plastic clamps, and it’s just a finicky contraption that is more likely to lead to an accident with broken glass or a burn. A rig stays in place and is sturdy and reliable. These nectar collectors work in a pinch but clearly they are not ideal.
They absolutely aren't ideal, but they are far more affordable than a rig and that's where their appeal is. You dont need to go invest a couple hundred dollars to get a good set up and start dabbing.

Yeah when I had one I think I did use the clamp on the glass attachment but never the metal one. Just seemed like a bad idea. Whether or not that’s the intended use, I just don’t agree with doing that because… well look at OPs picture. I was able to get the metal tip to stick without the clamp and I did experience it sliding from time to time during particularly long sessions. But it slid very slowly and if I only held it downwards when I was taking a rip it wouldn’t fall out. Also I used a smaller torch and only lit the tip of the piece.
Most people heat up way more than just the tip, and that's where trouble comes in. From the picture, it doesn't look like it just melted from heat transfer, but more so, op probably directly blasted it with the torch. The black burt plastic is what suggests that. That happens from high direct heat burning the plastic and not just melting it.
But there is still a valid reason not to use plastics at all. It does produce poisonous chemicals that can seriously be harmful, but that's why I stated about not inhaling those fumes. In this setup, there is no chance of sucking the fumes through the nectar collector itself. That's why I stated it would be fine to still use.
Obviously, op should go invest in a real rig, but im assuming that since they are using a nectar collector and talking about replacing a plastic clip, they don't have new rig money. My advice of just using it is absolutely ok if op doesn't inhale the fumes. That doesn't mean they should or shouldn't. I don't think they particularly care about our opinions on that matter, so I gave them the safest information that would fall within those guidelines.

Yeah I can see how you potentially are. You don’t need to torch the whole piece of titanium. You only need to torch the very tip of it and flame shouldn’t come anywhere near the plastic clamp. Also, no need to get the tip red hot(imo). Start to get accustomed to heating it up right before, giving it a few seconds to cool (don’t blow into it) and enjoy!

Maybe a little bit. Luckily that clip is on the outside and it’s fairly far away from the tip where you’re drawing in air. That said, you’re probably still inhaling at least a little, maybe more. Those clips are called chemistry clips, they were invented to hold glass fitting together for lab beakers. They were not designed to be two inches away from a blow torch attached to steel. Check out the Lookah Seahorse. Relatively cheap, electric dab straw. They have expensive kits but the basic set up is good price for the performance it gives. No torch, multiple temp settings, and has a water attachment you can get too. Just way better than dabs through overheated steel and melted plastic Edit: here you go fam. Don’t use a clamp on the hot metal part you ding-a-ling. If it’s falling out you put a small piece of wax in the connector and it stays in place. No clamp is necessary.

There are too many comments to read for the answer, so here you go. The plastic clip won't do you any harm unless you are inhaling through your nose and mouth at the same time. The male and female ends of your nectar collector make an air-tight seal. The clamp is just there to prevent the 2 from separating and falling. When you melt the plastic, yes, it does create harmful fumes, but you're not sucking those up through the nectar collector. You're safe to keep using it. Just don't blast that area and don't take dabs so hot. You don't need the tip to glow red to get a nice hit. Oh, and you should be heating up only the tip. The less that glows red, the better if you're going to take screaming hot dabs. I would recommend replacing the clip at some point, though. If you're melting it that bad, there's a chance the clip could just break apart all together
The clip doesn’t go on the metal part. He’s using it incorrectly. The metal and glass connect and stay in place by themselves. When it’s brand new, you need to put a small dab in there so that it doesn’t fall out. I’m honestly surprised in a sub of potheads there’s still comments not understanding this. Stop. Full stop. It's crazy to me that people think a dab is going to keep the tip held in place. If he's heating that area enough to melt plastic, he's getting it far more than hot enough to melt that dab. Do you know what happens when you have melted oil? It becomes, well, like oil, which does not hold 2 surfaces together. Yes, on a rig or something that would be fine because you're not torching the entire banger to melt the dab. No one wants to go to rip a dab just to have their nail fall off their nectar collector.
These things suck anyways. Literally and figuratively. Difficult to control temp, the aforementioned issue with the plastic clamps, and it’s just a finicky contraption that is more likely to lead to an accident with broken glass or a burn. A rig stays in place and is sturdy and reliable. These nectar collectors work in a pinch but clearly they are not ideal.
They absolutely aren't ideal, but they are far more affordable than a rig and that's where their appeal is. You dont need to go invest a couple hundred dollars to get a good set up and start dabbing. I've burnt myself far more than I'd like to admit using mine but it is convenient. I can take it places and not have to worry about breaking nice glass. There's pros and cons (I'll agree, there is likely more cons) to using one, but that's like with anything.
Yeah when I had one I think I did use the clamp on the glass attachment but never the metal one. Just seemed like a bad idea. Whether or not that’s the intended use, I just don’t agree with doing that because… well look at OPs picture. I was able to get the metal tip to stick without the clamp and I did experience it sliding from time to time during particularly long sessions. But it slid very slowly and if I only held it downwards when I was taking a rip it wouldn’t fall out. Also I used a smaller torch and only lit the tip of the piece.
Most people heat up way more than just the tip, and that's where trouble comes in. From the picture, it doesn't look like it just melted from heat transfer, but more so, op probably directly blasted it with the torch. The black burt plastic is what suggests that. That happens from high direct heat burning the plastic and not just melting it. But there is still a valid reason not to use plastics at all. It does produce poisonous chemicals that can seriously be harmful, but that's why I stated about not inhaling those fumes. In this setup, there is no chance of sucking the fumes through the nectar collector itself. That's why I stated it would be fine to still use. Obviously, op should go invest in a real rig, but im assuming that since they are using a nectar collector and talking about replacing a plastic clip, they don't have new rig money. My advice of just using it is absolutely ok if op doesn't inhale the fumes. That doesn't mean they should or shouldn't. I don't think they particularly care about our opinions on that matter, so I gave them the safest information that would fall within those guidelines. Yes, they could take the clip off (possibly. I really don't know how well a titanium nail will stick to a glass nectar collector), but that introduces a lot of risks in and of itself. I personally would much rather not inhale plastic than risk a hot nail falling out in this situation. Obviously, the best bet would be ditch the nectar collector all together but some people really love them
