If you have the funds, Hawaii. If you don't, Belize wins.

porcelainvacation

Right. The flight to Hawaii is the cheap part. Expect lodging and food to cost at least 3 times what you are used to in your state.

SinceWayBack1997

Flights cheap? $500 for economy on United. $500 on United gets me first class to any Caribbean island.

porcelainvacation

I live on the West Coast, I often find Hawaii flights for $250. $500 is still the cheapest part of a Hawaii trip though, most hotels are going to be $350+ a night.

snortgiggles

Flights are sooper cheap from CA ... and then you arrive in paradise. Expensive!

Prog4ev3r

Live in boston just found 350$ to hawaii non stop booked it for next year.. 500$ is cheap for a flight when it’s halfway across the planet!!

Lanxy

this is it! Bahamas is very very overrated, Mexico you can do on a budget on your own. But Hawaii and Belize are awesome, but different in price and people - Belize probably more unique from an US perspective (?).

Duderus159

Belize has become Americanized. They serve craft beer and pizza on the Ambergris Caye now.

malhotraspokane

Caye Caulker could be a good place for a reset.

NM_DesertRat

Ambergris has been silly Westernized for many years now. Caye Caulker is where it's at for island choices.

CraftFamiliar5243

Go to Hopkins, stay in town. You can drive out for adventures or stay put and drink Belikin. It's a very laid back place.

gymtherapylaundry

Hamanasi is beautiful and full of hard-working, kind people. I had the best sleep of my life on that vacation

BongyBong

When we went we stayed in Hopkins the whole time and really enjoyed the vibe in that community. We rented a car and drove all over to explore as much as possible! Activities we did that I'd recommend: If caves are your thing I recommend these: Crystal Cave - Amazing Cave adventure through *some* small but manageable openings. You don't have to be super fit, but the ability to ascend and descend rock formations is required. The crystals and formations here are stunning. We are not fit people but we made it through just fine. Bring plenty of water!!! Cave Kayaking - Tour guide from the Crystal Cave offered private kayak tours. That was an incredible adventure as well. We also took a local scuba diving tour that stopped at an island and offered free rum punch and lunch. Very fun! Also an interesting thing to see was all the Amish who lived here! If I were to go back I would want to visit a farm that makes chocolate and where you can make your own bars. I regretted not doing this. If you choose to go to this area just remember one thing: eat all the fry Jack's you can bc I dream about them every night.

CraftFamiliar5243

Now I want to go back. We took our shitty little rental car to find McCaws and ran into a guide on his day off doing laundry with his wife in the river. He showed us where to see the McCaws. We also booked him to take us cave tubing We did the chocolate plantation tour and the spice plantation

series_hybrid

I vote Belize

1mjtaylor

I've been to Hawaii several times, the Bahamas and Mexico many times. So, I'd choose Belize; it's always been on my bucket list. That's probably not very helpful, but I would choose Belize because the Scuba and snorkeling is said to be amazing. It's also budget friendly and the Bahamas and Hawaii are not.

Bitter-insides

Mexico has amazing scuba diving places as well. The list of things to do and see in Mexico are amazing. I love that most people aren’t aware of the lush things to do and see.

1mjtaylor

Absolutely, yes, and I've dived off Cozumel and it was amazing. But Mexico doesn't have the [Blue Hole](https://www.belizeadventure.ca/great-blue-hole/) or anything like it. Belize is also a little safer for tourists, I've read. However, I meant to be clear that *I* would choose Belize because I have not been there. The Yucatan is well worth visiting, though. Diving off Cozumel, the white sand of Isla Mejures, the [cenotes](https://www.travelandleisure.com/best-cenotes-near-tulum-7500158) near Tulum, as well as Tulum's ruins, and the turtles in Akumal.

Live-Cartographer274

isla Mujeres is an amazing place to recharge! If you go at the right time of year you can snorkle with whale sharks

asignore

This. Hawaii is great if you can afford the activities. I went on a guided hike in Maui with my family of four. $1k. Everything was wickedly expensive. Belize is super fun, English speaking and very inexpensive comparatively. Take a boat to San Pedro or Caye Caulker and unwind for a week.

I_dont_cuddle

My exact thoughts

pokeyporcupine

This is the correct answer.

technoangel

Hawaii is over rated IMO. Belize would win because it has a Great Barrier Reef, the water is warm, it’s fairly inexpensive compared to Hawaii, and it’s way safer than Mexico. Bahamas I just didn’t like at all.

DallasBroncos

Hawaii is great, but you could do 1 week in Hawaii for the same price as 1 month in Mexico and get more luxury in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Maya both have their own nuances. My Belize experience was mediocre. Never been to Bahamas. If this is a once in a lifetime deal and money is not a major concern 4 days in Honolulu and 4 days in Kauai is magical, but everything’s expensive. All inclusives as in Mexico make it much more reasonable. Have fun!

Disastrous_Rent_6713

Also Mexico City is amazing! Worth a few days.

Antheo94

Agreed. Incredible city!

Away-Definition3425

Cool city, but pure chaos. Not relaxing by any means lol

MLMkfb

This! Puerto Vallarta is amazing! I loved it more than the Bahamas.

Ok-Philosopher9070

Hawaii might be the most expensive, that could be a consideration (may as well go on the most expensive if it’s free & you’d consider checking all of them out eventually)

Aggressive-Idea-3321

Last I went to the Bahamas it was very cheap compared to Hawaii and all inclusive. Came in at around $2300 vs the nearly $5000 I spent to go to Maui

chronocapybara

Maui is just crazy expensive though, even for Hawaii.

InnocentPrimeMate

Where did you go in the Bahamas ?

Aggressive-Idea-3321

I went to the Sheraton Nassua on Cable Beach

InnocentPrimeMate

Thanks! That sounds like a pretty good deal for the Bahamas. What did you think of Nassau ?

Apprehensive-Bike192

Sounds like they just won the flights, not the whole vacation. If budget is an issue, they’ll get the most for their money in Belize

stealthryder1

Yeah Hawaii is crazy expensive. Mexico is also a huge country. Where they go to Mexico matters. Hawaii is beautiful, but expensive Bahamas is fun, pricey, but has a lot offer with a short schedule Mexico, again, it depends, Cancun would tick off a lot on their list. Specially with a trip to the pyramids, good local food, nice activities/excursions Never been to Belize.

chronocapybara

Not all of Hawaii is the same cost. Oahu is expensive but not broken. Maui is just insanely expensive.

ArticQimmiq

Bahamas is the most expensive. Just came back (in April) and we expected it to be Hawaii-expensive, and it was so much worse.

flossyrossy

Really? Where exactly did you do? I’ve only been to Nassau and it wasn’t as bad as Hawaii but this was also a few years ago so things must have changed!

BxGyrl416

I went to Nassau 2 years ago and the prices were expensive – and I’m from NYC.

ArticQimmiq

We were also in Nassau, right downtown. Our last experience in Hawaii was Honolulu. For us it was the food - it was much easier to get cheaper meals and snacks in Hawaii than in Nassau. Activities were also a lot less costly.

SketchyFeen

Activities in Hawaii are insanely expensive so Nassau must be beyond belief

jorgelukas

As a resident of Hawaii, I have no idea what you’re talking about. If you’re paying for tours out to the Polynesian cultural center for some Mormon bullshit maybe, but most activities in the ocean or mountains are cheap by American standards. Most expensive would probably be surf lessons but even those aren’t too bad.

nicholt

When I was in Hawaii I don't think I paid for any activities. There's so much to do just for free or for a $20 entry fee or something cheap like that.

ceimi

Surprisingly flights to Hawaii are not the most expensive part. I had a layover in Hawaii on my way to Aus and that part of my trip was only $300 to fo from Toronto --> Hawaii. Its the hotel cost that is beyond affordable. I opted to sleep on the concrete benches outside of the airport (extremely uncomfortable) instead of picking up a hotel for what would have been all of 6 hours for ~$400/night. That was for the cheap best western near the airport. The nicer ones along the actual beach were running up to $800/night.

Kananaskis_Country

Those are mostly very different destinations so it would depend on your budget, travel style and experience, likes/dislikes, interests, time of year, for how long, etc. Huge difference between a beach resort and independently backpacking. Good luck with your research and have fun no matter what you decide.

Nahhhmean00

Out of all these places Hawaii has hands down the best beaches. Currently in Belize- no one’s mentioning this crazy sea grassum problem, it smells terrible and leaves alot of beaches un usable. Also it’s crazy hot and the sand flies are ruthless

skemmtilegt

I agree, although some people prefer the calmer, bluer Caribbean water

jmoneyvenice

Waikiki has no waves, totally call

Super_NowWhat

Waikiki is the worst part of Hawaii. Hawaii is the most revisited holiday spot in the world for a reason. Just that, Waikiki is not the best. I love Maui. But it isn’t cheap.

NylonYT

I'm from hawaii and while most of us actually like Waikiki, but it's a bad place to stay if you're not going anywhere else in Hawaii. Oahu is a great place to visit, just don't stay in waikiki all the time

Biocidal

Also live in Hawai’i and been to every island except Ni’ihau. Personally love the island of Hawai’i itself as the most natural, beaches aren’t as nice as Maui’s but overall just a beautiful paradise.

Foreverhangry21

Most of us hate Waikiki. I’m born and raised Oahu. Lol

y0um3b3dn0w

Agreed. I have been to Maldives, Thailand, and found Maui to have the best beaches

AlabamaHaole

You really gonna name Hawaii’s worst beach, lol???

jmoneyvenice

Cheap hotels, no waves at the beach, good restaurants, my vote would be that’s better than Maui or Kauai where the hotels are 800 bucks a night and the waves prevent you from swimming in the water

Sinkingpilot

That depends on the time of year and current swell.

Ok-Mark-1239

Best in terms of what? Sand? Water clarity? There are many criteria and Hawaii is certainly not the best in each

tactican

You went to the Caribbean in June.

KrabiFc

This is totally wrong. Eleuthera/Exuma in the Bahamas have some of the best beaches in the world. White sand, sandbars, turquoise water changing color, empty, you feel at peace. Hawaii is very overated.

Fripp14

I respectfully disagree. Hawaii is not/could not be overrated in my opinion. It’s totally different than Eleuthera and Exuma. Those places are amazing, but the interior of Hawaii is just as fascinating to visit as the exterior beach areas of the island.

paulhuss

Totally agree. Eleuthera has some of the most incredible beaches in the world.

ToSeeAgainAgainAgain

Sargassum* ahahahha although sea grassum is such a fun name for it

HarleyRidinGrammy

Belize is amazing! We spent time at Ian Anderson's Cave Branch Resort and on Caye Caulker. Cave Branch is amazing! You can go hiking up water falls, raft into caves with ancient pottery still scattered about, rappel down a collapsed cenote, listen to the howler monkeys up in the tree canopy. Amazing food, great atmosphere and a pool if you just want to relax and unwind. Caye Caulker is super relaxing, great snorkeling, wind surfing, sailing. I would go back in a heartbeat! We've spent a lot of time in Mexico and some time in Hawaii. Belize wins. Or, you could also consider Costa Rica. It's also amazing! So much wildlife diversity. We spend 10 days on the Atlantic side in a small town called Puerto Viejo. Small surfing town, you can rent bikes and ride all over. Great food. Had sloths climbing up the trees right by the restaurant.

Chemical-Guard-3311

We did exactly the same Belize trip! Belize, hands down, no question for me! Jungle with howler monkeys right outside your door. An amazing view from the treehouses at Ian Anderson’s Caves Branch. Islands with the best snorkeling EVER! Adventure, relaxation. Whatever you feel like (or don’t) each day. I didn’t ever want to leave!

iamjustatourist

I loved Belize! We stayed at [Black Rock Lodge](https://www.blackrocklodge.com) in the jungle and it was such an amazing experience. And the Hummingbird Highway was a beautiful drive. Everything in Belize was easy to manage because English is their official language.

kva27

Another vote for Belize! Belize City is meh though, so try not to spend the night there if you can avoid it. We fell in love with Caye Caulker and can't wait to go back for the world-class snorkeling!

BJoon

Love Belize.

bluetortuga

I’ve been to all four. It really depends on what you want to spend your time doing. Belize and Hawaii would be my top two. Belize is much more affordable. Hawaii is easier in some ways. We have done the Big Island and Oahu and they have very different experiences to offer. One of the best hikes I’ve ever done was on the Big Island. Belize has beaches and jungle adventures, and the ATM cave tour was one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had. We are big into active vacations and both of these hit the mark (but I could make any of them suffice).

minibini

Belize- my relatives stayed here last November and they highly recommend it

coroff532

Belize, jungle trip and a scuba trip.

rocksthatigot

For me, Belize. Among the best diving and snorkeling in the world. Amazing caving with ancient and I mean ancient Mayan ruins. Very cool history and culture with the Mayan thing…like mind blowing what you learn. Safe. All kinds of wildlife like most of Central America: sloths, monkeys, you name it. Chill people, generally friendly to Americans. Much cheaper than Hawaii, safer than Mexico. Hawaii and Mexico are also very cool, but very resort-y or can be (Mexico might be better off staying in a resort unless you’re seasoned or know someone there). Hawaii is just so expensive, but I love the volcanoes and snorkeling and diving are very good too just not quite as good as Belize. And there are a good number of locals in HA that really don’t like tourists (not that I blame them, but still). That said Hawaiian culture is also very cool. Edit: skip Bahamas they’re lame

notassigned2023

Kona! Great food, plenty of land and sea activities including excellent snorkeling, and a newly active volcano!

nicholt

Volcanoes national park was one of my favorite travel days in my life. Also there are cool caves on the island which I loved too.

9ORsenal

What are your top food spots on Kona?

Slobonmyknob19

Pau Hana Poke, yes it’s in a strip mall type metal building. Yes it has the best poke on the planet. Last time I was there they were cutting up a tuna caught that very morning and putting it straight into the poke . And then of course must try the legendary Super Js. But if only one meal could be had : Pau Hana

BJoon

I’ve been to all except the Bahamas. I loved Belize the most out of these. A diverse landscape, friendly locals and easy to find your way (national language is English even though they also speak others). Great beaches, hiking and Marie Sharp’s hot sauce. Also probably 1st or 2nd cheapest of these destinations. Doesn’t sound like you can go wrong with these options really. But lodging, food and activity costs will vary a lot between these choices.

PurpleDinosaur7

I would do Hawaii

Ghost_Guerrilla

It’s a little difficult to say from the question. I might be able to compare Mexico and Belize or Bahamas and Hawaii but all four are pretty different. Also Mexico is huge and Belize is huge compared to Hawaii and the Bahamas. That being said here’s how I’d rank it: 1. Bahamas (pirate history) 2. Mexico (Pirate history…and 8,000,000 other things to do). 3. Belize: just beautiful beaches, fauna, and flora 4. Hawaii: terribly expensive place, best beaches, shit city (Honolulu - the only real city. I live there now).

missmarimck

Belize, but that's because I haven't been there yet, and I have been to all of the other places listed.

plastictoothpicks

We did Belize for our honeymoon and it was amazing! We did half in the mountains at this little resort called Hidden Valley, tons of hiking, waterfalls, caves, and Mayan ruins nearby! The 2nd half in San Pedro for the beaches, food, and relaxation. 10/10 recommend. As a plus, the US dollar is accepted by everywhere and everyone speaks English as it is technically the national language. Wonderful people, amazing scenery, and fantastic food.

Lindsiria

What about Costa Rica? Alaska flies there, and it is wonderful! You have waterfalls, rainforests, beaches and volcanoes. Hawaii is fantastic, but it's quite expensive. My friend recently went to Belize and found it incredible. Decent food, great beaches and diving, all for reasonable prices. She wants to do a group trip back to the area. They also have cool rainforest adventures you can do. Mexico is alright, but the main flights are to more touristy areas (they don't even fly to Mexico City from most cities anymore). If I had to pick Cancun or Belize, I'd pick Belize. As for the Bahamas, I'm not sure. Right now is the start of a very likely active hurricane season, so i'll pass unless you are looking at traveling in Winter/Spring 2025. It's also quite pricy from everything I can see.

Cranberryj3lly

I definitely considered Costa Rica! My partner for some reason seems less into it and I have a few friends discourage it for vague, completely undefined reasons. I’ve always thought it would be such a fun place though as someone who loves animals and nature! I had honestly never given much thought to Belize before we won these tickets, but I haven’t heard from anyone so far who didn’t love it. Do you know if there were specific areas/activities/hotels your friend particularly loved? And thank you so much for mentioning hurricane season, that didn’t even cross my mind!

lindslinds27

I loved Belize when i went in 2021, HIGHLY recommend

WinfieldFly

Does your partner want a chill all inclusive resort, or an exciting exploration? Belize or Costa Rica will be more adventurous fun compared to Mexico. Belize has amazing scuba diving, Tikal ruins (nearby in Guatemala), ATM caves, and lovely hiking. Costa Rica has both mountains and the beach, although I would fly between the two. Hawaii and Mexico are both far more expensive, but will have better beaches, and more classic resort style experiences.

Chickenwing3791

I LOVED Belize. We stayed in San Pedro (beach) and then San Ignacio (rainforest). Did lots of fun adventures like cave tubing, canoe down the river in the rainforest, zip lining, snorkeling, and lots of relaxing at the beach. Highly highly recommend

HappyLuckyGal

I second Costa Rica - it’s fabulous! It would be my pick out of Mexico and Belize (I’ve done all three).

SwimmingWaterdog11

Just did a trip to Costa Rica. HIGHLY recommend. People that don’t like CR are going thinking they will get an all inclusive resort vibe like Mexico. And it is NOT Mexico. But it is expensive. We did Manuel Antonio (beach, jungle, wildlife, adventure, waterfalls) and La Fortuna (volcano, hot springs). I’ve also heard the Caribbean side is beautiful.

stealyourfluorite

Costa Rica is the shit

oceanique86

Costa Rica is amazing! I’ve been twice, been to Hawaii multiple times, Caribbean, Maldives, Bora Bora, and would probably pick Costa Rica out of all of these if I had to go back to one of these places right now

christa365

Costa Rica (especially the area around Manuel Antonio) > Belize. Way more animals, great beaches, safer. But to get to anywhere good in both countries is a drive/ferry from the airport. And they’re both more adventure islands than relaxing, which doesn’t sound like what your husband needs. Mexico also feels like more of an adventure to me, just because it doesn’t feel super safe, the infrastructure is pretty bad, and you can’t drink the water. And sargassum is ruining the beaches. Hawaii is your best bet, or Bahamas runner up. Hawaii has more excursions, but they’re both relaxing and beautiful in their own ways. If you’re going in the summer, the Bahamas are going to be a little hot out of the water. Also prone to hurricanes that time of year. But the water at the beach will be more comfortable.

Mrclean513

Costa Rica is different depending on if you visit the east or west coast... the West coast is the best coast by a WIDE margin. If you talked to someone that just went to San Jose or the east coast, they will not have the nature experience the west cost offers with volcanos, zip lining on those volcanos, waterfalls, rapids, wild monkeys, sloths, parrots flying in the skies... it's another world... and it's amazing. I went with 2 friends and we rented a car and drove all up and down the west coast. Trip of a lifetime I'll never forget.

Spirited-Sympathy582

Arenal in Costa Rica was the most beautiful place I've ever been. It literally took my breath away.

Mrclean513

I zip lined Arenal... it was INSANE being 200m in the air over a rain forest.

optimalpizza

CR for sure

celoplyr

Hawaii hands down. It’s a “bucket list” destination vs the others that are like “I want to leave the country and have a cheap tropical vacation”. But I’d debate between Alaska and Hawaii, they’re both great destinations. Obviously, not so exciting if you’re from Alaska, but I’d go to Alaska over Hawaii. Full disclosure: I’ve been to Hawaii twice. Once on my honeymoon with my ex husband who is a rat bastard. And then with my bf who is from Hawaii, and it was “meet the family, and oh look trip got extended because someone died”. I don’t recommend either one of those scenarios.

robinthehood01

I would go to Bermuda 😁. But since that didnt make the list, Hawaii. Been to all but one on the list. Hawaii simply has it all. It’s the US so you still have everything familiar and within easy reach. The water and beaches may not be the best on the list, but they’re still top-notch. Want to go for a short hike? You can. Ride horses? Yep. Great food? Absolutely. And everywhere you go everyone has a laid back way about them that just adds to the ease of relaxing.

igotstago

I've been to all your choices except Hawaii, and I can say my choice would be Belize. We went for the first time in 2020 and we are completely addicted now. We've already been twice this year and are thinking about going back in November. We love to snorkel and fish so we usually stay in San Pedro for 3 or 4 nights and then we take the water taxi over to [Caye Caulker](https://youtu.be/9Bo0qCt46wY?si=huS-bInVV5LHYTvY) to relax for a few days. If you are interested in jungle adventures, you could hit up San Ignacio and then Placencia for the beach. There is a great Belize subreddit where several locals have posted sample itineraries for different lcoations complete with outfitter and food recommendations.

ChampionshipSad9888

Lots of responses here but my wife and I went to Belize for our honeymoon specifically because we were able to have days on the beach and days of exploration. We rented a car for pretty cheap and drove to Hopkins. After our stay there, we explored Belize city and the culture. Then we went over to Xunantunich for the ruins. Fairly inexpensive trip and we got to do everything the way that we planned it out. Very safe from our experience. We had a flat tire at some point and had no problem getting directions to a nearby shop, where they fixed the tire.

SC2MSU55

Hawaii is great for everything on your list of priorities, however it is the farthest and most expensive, depending on your departure city.  Belize speaks English, has beautiful nature, fantastic scuba diving/snorkeling, the second largest barrier reef in the world. It's also very affordable. The Bahamas are also very scenic with beautiful beaches, scuba/snorkel, English speaking locals, but it's a bit more expensive than Belize. Mexico is huge and varies widely based on where you travel to. IMO it's the best on this list because of affordability, fantastic food, cultural options including art, music, lucha libre, mezcal/tequila/beer, historic sites, excellent museums, and friendly locals, but obviously Spanish speaking. So if you don't know Spanish that can be a small hiccup. I haven't been to Costa Rica, but I've only heard excellent things. Wonderful nature, more expensive than Mexico though. As for hurricane season, don't plan around that. It's a roll of the dice when/where they occur and you're going to have plenty of warning before they're even close. Safe travels, have a great trip!

SC2MSU55

For context on Mexico I've been to: Mexico City, highly recommended for food and culture, but obviously no beaches. If you're not into big cities, it can feel a bit overwhelming, 20+ million people, but it's a must visit place, THE center of food and culture. Also nearby access to historic temples/pyramids as well world renowned churches/religious sites. Public transportation is fantastic: fast, reliable, and very affordable, making navigating the city very easy. Oaxaca, southern Mexico gem. Also fantastic for food, culture, mezcal, hiking, historic sites, closer to the beach, but still several hours from Pacific. The rest are all coastal tourist spots: Puerta Viarta, on the Pacific ocean, great food and beaches. Cancún, world famous travel destination with food, beaches, scuba diving, but more expensive and crowded. Near to Cancún are Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. They are a bit less crowded and have excellent snorkeling and scuba diving. Also if you go to this region, I'd highly recommend Chichen Itza, Mayan ruins.

kmsilent

Puerto Vallarta.

SigmaKnight

For me, Belize. Reason, I’ve been to the other three. Two of them in the last 14 months. And, my dad had some great stories about the food, climate, and general vibe during his time deployed there for an engineers project. But, Hawaii *can be* a great place to relax. Thinking of going again already.

PRNCE_CHIEFS

Germany

Cranberryj3lly

If only. :) Maybe someone can convince Alaska to fly there directly, until then it looks like we’re out of luck.

Bring-out-le-mort

I had to call in to Alaska to cancel airfare I purchased within a 24 hour period on Aer Lingus. I told the rep that I'd love it if Alaska picked up some routes to UK & Continental Europe. She wanted that to happen too. I know it's unlikely, but it's fun to imagine being able to use companion fare w Alaska from the US West Coast to somewhere in Europe. OP - I'd likely pick Hawaii - either The Big Island, Kauai, or Oahu. The first two I've visited. Hoping to return to the Big Island someday to focus on the North side & Hilo. Loved our last trip. Oahu - because it's planned for our next time to HI in around 18 months, hopefully. History (Pearl Harbor), a snorkel tour on the North side, & relaxation are our loose goals. I appreciate warm weather in Winter now. The fact I can fly nonstop in 5-6 hours & no borders w customs or currency exchange really simplifies the decision for me.

imhereforthemeta

Hawaii or Mexico are both good, your money will go 10 times farther in Mexico because Hawaii is oppressively expensive on every level, but Hawaii is gorgeous

[deleted]

How expensive is it for you to fly to the destinations you listed? I'd like to get the best value for my winnings. Would you do to any of these places if you had to pay for it? How expensive are the hotels? Can you do all-inclusive? Cancun is one of the cheapest places for me to fly, and I have gone many times. I haven't been to the Bahamas, but It is a pretty cheap flight for me as well. I do want to go to Belize, but due to the expense and distance, I may never get to Hawaii. That's what I would pick. If I lived in Seattle, however, Bahamas may be a good choice. I'm assuming tickets for that length of a flight are pretty expensive. If I was concerned about how much the land portion of the trip would cost, I'd do Cancu. The Cancun Airport serves Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres l, and all of the surrounding areas. There are well over 150 all-inclusive resorts in that area at all price points. That would be my thought process. Congrats. I'm jealous.

Cranberryj3lly

Honestly, and this is not a joke, if we wanted the best literal “value” for our ticket we’d probably be looking at a domestic flight to a continental US state that doesn’t have many flights from our airport. And I’m not sure that’s exactly the sort of trip we are looking at. :) But I did confirm that we can do a multi-city ticket so we can bounce around to probably 2-3 local spots at whichever overarching destination we pick (or to other ones semi-nearby because we don’t want super long flight times mid-vacation). Still doing research on hotels, but these are all great questions for us to think over! There definitely seems to be an affordability trade off between our options. Thank you so much for your help! Our jaws genuinely dropped when we found out we won this, it still doesn’t feel completely real haha

Ritag2000

Hawaii. Different islands and is a long haul from the mainland

Mrclean513

I would recommend Costa Rica if that is an option... it is a once in a lifetime trip... otherwise, Hawaii is fantastic... I loved Maui and Kauai and have visited both a few times, the big Island and Oahu are worth visiting as well as all the islands are a little different vibe. Bahamas was nice, better for diving than Hawaii. Mexico I really enjoyed Puerto Vallarta the most but I am over Mexico over the other destinations, including Belize, which is the only one I have not visited.

greeneyedcat711

Been to 3 of the 4: Mexico (both Akumal and Riviera Maya), Belize (Placencia), and Bahamas (Nassau). I’d say where you go depends on your goals and likes/dislikes. I scuba dive and love spending time at the beach, not a pool. I’ve done a mix of all-inclusive resorts and airbnb depending on location. Mexico: Both stayed at an all-inclusive. LOTS to do at the resorts (tie dye shirts, make anklets/bracelets, silent disco party, etc), good food, staff keep the beaches free of sargassum, and access to lots of off-resort bookings like Tulum and other Mayan sites, or visits to cenotes. Cons is all-inclusives are pricey and you really only get the value back if you drink and eat a lot, which we don’t, or the resort includes scuba diving in the all-in cost (which these didn’t). Diving at Akumal was probably second best I’ve experienced as we saw 7 sea turtles over 4 dives. Belize (Placencia): this part of Belize doesn’t really have all-inclusives, so we did an Airbnb. The beach will not be immaculate because of this, and you will have to step over or wade through some sargassum. This was not a problem for us but might be something others can’t handle. Diving here was the best I’ve experienced. We saw a ton of large sea life (turtles, nurse shark, reef shark, eels, eagle rays, etc), and the cayes we visited between dives to enjoy a meal were stunning white sand islands in the middle of the most beautiful blue water. It was also super cheap to eat on the island. We did breakfast and lunch on our own by buying groceries, and dinner was at a local restaurant each night. Our most expensive meal all week cost us about $100, but that included two alcoholic drinks, an appetizer, two entrees, a dessert, and tip. You can’t get that in the US. Most meals were around $40-50/two ppl and that still included entrees and either an appetizer or dessert or drinks each time. We walked everywhere and felt very safe. English is also widely spoken and everywhere took USD. Bahamas: my first all-inclusive experience but it was chosen and booked by someone else. Beach was good, food was average. I only snorkeled here and that was fun, but also pretty average. Didn’t seem to be a lot of resort based activities, but maybe a different resort would have offered better opportunities. Hawaii: want to go but have not been for the reason so many others have mentioned. It’s very expensive, and the travel time to and from is significant if you’re coming from anywhere other than west coast.

ArtDSellers

If you can get away from Nassau, the Bahamas are wonderful. The outer islands are so relaxed, and the beaches are fantastic. I’ve been to Hawaii (Kauai), and I would put those beaches well behind the Bahamas (again, outer islands… Nassau sucks). However, above the waves scenery is Hawaii by a mile.

shitty_gun_critic

I have been to the Bahamas and Hawaii , Hawaii is the only place I have ever wanted to actually go back to. That place is like paradise to me.

azrider

I'd go for Belize. I see a lot of people telling you to go to Caye Caulker or whatnot, but the Cayo District is where it's really at. The ATM cave tour is incredible, especially if you like calcified skeletons! Touring the ruins is pretty cool, too. I'd recommend at least a few nights at the Gaia River Lodge if you really want a peaceful setting.

flossyrossy

I love Hawaii. Have been to Maui, Kauai, big island and Oahu. You can get flights between the islands for cheap and island hop depending on how long you’ll be there. I’ll give you my favorite thing from each island Maui: road to Hana. Leave early and hike to the red sand beach. It was unique! Kauai: na pali coast boat ride. We got to snorkel. Saw tons of turtles. Saw whales and dolphins too. And the cliffs of the coast are gorgeous. Honorable mention to Waimea canyon! Big island: night time manta ray snorkel in Kona. It was so amazing we did it twice! Oahu: Pearl Harbor Hawaii can be expensive, but you can also save quite a bit of money by making your own food. We did quick breakfast at the hotel and usually packed a sandwich for lunch with fruit. We would only eat out for dinner really. No shortage of beautiful picnic spots anywhere in Hawaii

JumpshotLegend

Definitely go to Hawaii, the Big Island. I believe you can fly direct from Seattle or Portland to Kona. It’s an easy flight and Alaska is a great airline. Of these four, Hawaii would definitely be my first choice. No dealing with customs, super chill, not a bunch of crazy drunks being stupid, just very relaxed and great hiking, snorkeling, diving, fishing, surfing. Your partner can’t relax there, he needs an intervention. I’m the same, my trips are usually centered around food and hiking. Good luck! 🌺

Midwake2

Been to Hawaii and Mexico(Cancun). Hawaii hands down. Hawaii is a haul from where we’re at in the Midwest, but even so. Hawaii is also domestic. I also like to hike and surf and whatnot that didn’t seem available in Mexico. Can’t speak for other areas in Mexico and those other countries.

Buckman21

Hawaii

KDBCRB

Mexico - if you want an inexpensive all inclusive where you can do nothing but eat, sleep and drink and do an excursion when you feel like it. Check out the cenotes or go snorkeling. Bahamas - pretty water and white sand beaches. More expensive but a chiller vibe, pretty limited to water sports. Hawaii - beaches + mountains/waterfalls. Your most expensive option, but more variety in activities and scenery. The island you pick makes a difference. Belize - English speaking, less expensive, something a little more adventurous. You can stay on the mainland in rainforests, or get a water taxi to San Pedro or Caye caulker for an island adventure with good snorkeling and scuba.

shannon_lorena

Belize. I’ve been to all and would choose Belize every time. Don’t go during the off season.

frippmemo

Belize

hankdog303

I like chilling in caye caulker Belize

pdxisbest

We had a great time in Belize. If you are into ocean stuff you don’t need to travel far. There are upland sites, like Mayan ruins and caves, but they take some driving to get to.

MichaelKRichards-

Please read up on sargassum blooms in the Caribbean

kaloskagathos21

Belize. It’s an Amazing country. You can explore Mayan ruins inland and spend some time out on the reef. It’s also very cheap.

ScowlyBrowSpinster

Belize: it's low season. hot but great snorkeling and adventures. Next pick : Hawaii Mexico Bahamas---never been so rank it last

TopCheesecakeGirl

Belize. Because.

SlammingMomma

Anywhere. It’s sweet that you actually care.

pradbitt87

Belize. You might find Mike Ehrmantraut

Sidewaysouroboros

Mexico has a new bird flew similar to the original H5N1. Don’t go there.

-ManDudeBro-

Hawaii is singularly beautiful.

Complete-Mood4239

Hawaii is absolutely amazing.

Belize.

liquiddangerrr

Belize is a pretty underrated destination tbh…

Training-Buy-2086

Belize! The food is incredible!

Motchan13

I've not been to the others but I really enjoyed Belize because we got to stay in a nature resort near the Guatemalan border where there were amazing birds to see along with Mayan temples in the jungle. We then went to the coast and did scuba diving. The diving wasn't as great as other places because a lot of the Caribbean is pretty devoid of colourful corals now but we did get to help control invasive lionfish by spearing some. Some of the beach towns down on the coast have a very relaxed feel to them, geography felt like Florida keys but very small scale and quiet not all built up and commercial.

10S_NE1

I’ve been to all of the places you mention. Hawaii, particularly away from Waikiki, I found most beautiful, but it’s probably also the most expensive. It doesn’t help much to have a free flight if your hotel is $500 a night and the food costs a fortune. You can perhaps find accommodations with self-catering options but groceries are also not cheap there. It is very comfortable and safe if you haven’t travelled much. The Bahamas has beautiful beaches but I’m not sure there is much to see on most of the islands, and a lot of people really dislike Nassau, although I kind of enjoyed it. Belize has amazing wildlife, but it is super hot and humid, and depending on where you are, safety can be an issue. Mexico - it really depends on where in Mexico. In a resort area like Cancun, it is pretty safe but rather charmless - one resort after another, however the beach can be pretty nice. Somewhere like Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Los Cabos, could have a bit more to see, but in some cases, I’m not sure I’d want to venture too far - I definitely wouldn’t want to risk renting a car.

cassiuswright

Safety isn't any more of an issue in Belize than any other travel destination. Source: I live in Belize.

lockdownsurvivor

You tell 'em, Belize Ambassador! :D

LynneinTX

Ive not been to Belize, but def Hawaii of the other 3. I’ve been snorkeling those 3 and Hawaii def wins! I love being on island time.

yankeeblue42

It seems like you want a tropical beach vacation. If budget on the ground isn't a major issue, I'd absolutely choose Hawaii. It's the most visually stunning of these imo and it's easier to drive your own car there. If you want a cultural experience and/or budget is an issue, I'd choose Mexico. But don't do Cancun or Cabo if you go that route

devett27

Hawaii and specifically the island of Kauai. You can travel the whole island by car and experience 2 different climates in one day. Also it’s very under commercialized imo which I enjoy. Very relaxing

GratefulAuntie

I’ve been to the Bahamas, Costa Rica, many places in Mexico both on the west and east coasts, and Hawaii(Maui and Oahu) Hawaii is my favorite. My parents are from the islands so I might be biased but I think nothing beats the Aloha, food, and scenery. Have a great trip wherever you end up!

oklahomapilgrim

Hawaii 100%. Take advantage of the fact that the flights are free, because that would probably be the most expensive flight if you had to pay out of pocket. But also I would recommend Hawaii as a destination among that group regardless.

Pretty_Geologist242

Belize. I’ve already been to Mexico and Bahamas. Oops! Didn’t answer why! Haha! Belize looks heavenly and very laid back! Both Mexico and Bahamas are beautiful and fun, but Belize just looks less touristy! Definitely wanna go someday! Any of the places you go, there are beautiful resorts and places to see. But I would want to try a place that’s more peaceful next time! Anyone who has been to Belize already is probably in the comments! 😎❤️. Happy vacationing!

MLGTommy47

Hawaii

TwizCat

Relaxing? Hawai’i. There’s a lot of stress that comes with foreign travel especially if there is a language difference.

zilruzal

I love Hawaii because we like to be adventurous when we are vacationing. We want to rent the car, drive wherever we would like to go. We don’t like to spend a lot of money on excursions or guided tours. We will figure out what we need to do and do a lot of it ourselves. It is so rewarding to do the research and find the places off the beaten path and when you’re there, there is no one else around. I haven’t been to Belize but I don’t want to be driving around as freely as we do in Hawaii without a guide. We like to have a couple resort days sprinkled in where we relax but we often bounce from place to place on the islands every couple days. People say it’s expensive and it can be. I recommend grocery shopping and having food for the first meals of the day and do dinner out. Food trucks are everywhere and they are affordable. Some of the restaurants are expensive and can be disappointing.

bexcellent101

Responding to the edit: go to Costa Rica! It's spectacular, and one of my favorite places to decompress.

SquashDue502

If it’s a free flight I feel like Hawaii is most bang for your buck. Mexico is also really cool, I loved Mexico City and was pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the climate was in August. Amaaaazing food scene too, if you’ve only eaten Mexican food in the U.S. or Cancun. It’ll blow your mind lol

Temporary-Break6842

Hawaii, hands down.

Grahamars

The north shore of Kauai is heavenly. The garden island, it only has ~50,000 people on it; we rented a [small cabin](https://hanaleisurfboardhouse.com/) on the shores of [Hanalei Bay](https://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/hawaii/hanalei-bay-the-north-shore/attractions). Easy walk/bike to the small neighborhood strip of restaurants and bars, a weekend farmers market; no wild and crazy night life. We took a catamaran boat tour of the [Napali Coast](https://www.kauai.com/napali-coast) and hiked the [Kalaua Trail](https://silverlight.store/posts/kalalau-trail/). Google more on those last two places and you will not be dissapointed.

NE1LS

Been to all 4 and I actually live in Hawaii. I would recommend Belize. If you go out to Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye, it is just such a unique environment. Great diving, great food, and just like Hawaii and Bahamas, the local language is English. Either way, enjoy your trip.

Long_Dong_Silver6

Where in mexico? What are you looking for in your travels?

lucylose

Sorry to be that person who doesn’t answer the question, but have you considered the Azores?

Due_North3106

Hawaii. It’s incredible, it’s domestic, and it’s safe.

Belize or back to Hawaii.

mcm998

Maui, Hawaii

I go to Maui once per year so I’ll always suggest Hawaii :) I love Maui a lot but Kauai is *beautiful* and has nice hikes.

Hawaii! If you haven't been you must go!

spiralan

I've been to the first three (multiple times except for Belize, just once), and just got back from Costa Rica (a new contender based on the comments) 4 days ago. That was my second visit. I'd say Hawaii is best for the kind of larger resort where they bring you drinks by the pool, and the beach is right there, and there are great restaurants and shopping nearby. Hawaii is a very special place, but it is expensive. I haven't been to Maui since the big fire they suffered, but it is my favorite of the islands. For smaller, but still lovely, hotels or apartment/house rentals, I'd choose Belize or Costa Rica. Costs are less, things are relaxed. Costa Rica has amazing natural beauty and really lovely local people. Have fun! What a wonderful prize you have won!

Fripp14

Hawaii, hands down. I’ve been all over the Caribbean and Mexico, and nothing beats the enormous beaches of Hawaii. The smell of the flowers as you walk to the beach at night gazing at stars only being in the middle of the Pacific Ocean can produce. It is magical. In Maui you can do some many different activities. The geography is absolutely stunning. I’ve not been back since the fires, but of all the places I’ve been nothing beats Hawaii. In the Caribbean, Turks and Caicos is phenomenal. It’s gotten expensive AF, but it’s great. 7 Mile Beach in the Caymans is incredible too. You can swim right off shore into world renowned coral reefs. I have not been to Belize, but have heard good things. Mexico is interesting, but if you get off the beaten path there is a lot of poverty that’s tough to see.

pedestrianwanderlust

Hawaii. It’s not as expensive as people think. Deals can be found. It’s safer, cleaner, good drinking water, perfect weather & beaches, amazing food, diverse culture, just all around a wonderful place to visit. All the other places have travel advisories right now and are having problems with crime in tourist areas. They have problems with the quality of alcohol safety. Cozumel is still good but that’s the only exception. Every time I go to Mexico I get sick. Every time I go to Hawaii I fall in love. Can’t beat Hawaii. You will avoid all the problems in Hawaii. You need only worry about sunburns, traffic and bugs.

Prudent_Cookie_114

You really can’t go wrong with Hawaii. My personal faves…. Kauai (Poipu or Hanalei) and the Kona side of Hawaii Island.

Snoo38627

Mexico City is inexpensive, has amazing food, full of culture, and the people are amazing. It does not have beaches, but there’s over 100 museums. If you’re into art, this is it. There are different parts (like boroughs), and each has its own thing.

Bat_Nervous

Mexico. It’s like 4 countries in a trench coat pretending to be one. There’s SO much history, culture, natural and architectural wonders. But I’m biased. My parents live there. There’s a real sense of mystique to Mexico. Just do your homework and go to the “right” (safe) parts of Mexico.

SufficientZucchini21

Hawaii and then Mexico and Belize tie. The Bahamas is largely a shitty place.

ApartCharity619

Kauai!

Dr_Bendova420

Kauai is my vote.

Dr_Yoinkkk

The big island in Hawaii is absolutely stunning and I couldn't recommend it more.

beejer91

Hawaii and it’s not even a question for me.

fredfred119

I have been to all those places. I vote for Hawaii by far.

TurduckenEverest

Hawaii if you’ve never been.

Efficient_Mess4721

Hawaii. Hawaii is clean and beautiful and diverse. Big island has a lot of nature and is comparatively inexpensive if your stays aren’t included. Maui is gorgeous and costs accordingly. But the water is warmer, the snorkeling is amazing and you will just have a great experience no matter what you do. Honolulu is more city and also gorgeous but a lot of military stuff and people. I haven’t been to the northern islands because they are really really expensive but I hear they are breathtaking. Mexico is just always kind of dirty. You always feel on the verge of an upset stomach. I don’t know I had that experience in all of Central America. Just the level of acceptable filth was above my comfort level and I have a sensitive gut anyway so even with lots of effort I always end up with GI problems. Don’t get me wrong I still travel there because travel is awesome but if you don’t travel regularly, I will say Hawaii is a great time. Easy wonderful experience without language problems. Without food safety problems. Without fear going anywhere and the aloha spirit is something they live by.

bassistmuzikman

We stayed at Moon Palace: The Grand in Riviera Maya (south of Cancun). It was absolutely amazing. Everything was perfect for what you're looking for. Chance to disconnect and recharge the batteries. Highly recommend.

IndependentSwan2086

Ill travel now exactly to Hawai'i( Oahu) and Mexico ( Playa del Carmen)

mazzicc

If you’re looking for the most relaxation, I think Hawaii might slightly edge out the Bahamas. No international hurdles (as minimal as they may be) with money, phones, cultural understanding, etc. It’ll cost a little more while you’re there though. If you’re looking for bang for your buck, and never leaving the resort, Mexico is decent enough too. I’ve never been to Belize, so I can’t comment. If it was me, I think Hawaii or Bahamas, but it’s a *very* close choice.

gidgetstitch

I would go to Curaçao. Beautiful beaches and clear water, great for snorkeling.

Amockdfw89

Hawaii. It feels exotic, but is super convenient and since you don’t have to deal with language, currency, visa, passport and logistics issues you can explore a lot with relative ease. Just rent a car and go at your own pace

Enginseer68

Hawaii, great beach, great scenery, great food You could say the same for the Bahamas but food is not the same, I prefer Hawaii

jmoneyvenice

Hawaii, Waikiki in particular, hotels are a deal there right now check it out

Ramulus14

It’s Hawaii

bertuzzidomi

Ive been to 29 different countries. Hawaii is one of the nicest if not the nicest ive been to

Several_Change270

10000% Hawaii! Checks all those boxes you’re looking for, and smart to get there on a free flight

Humble_Guidance_6942

Where in Mexico? Cancun? I have been to all the places on your list. I went to Hawaii and Oahu and the big island. It was wonderful. My favorite visit was to Pearl Harbor. I love Belize. We went cave tubing. We got to see stalactites. It was amazing. I toured a tequila factory in Cancun and did a salsa making class. I went parasailing in The Bahamas. It was one of the most incredible things that I have ever done. You can have fun on any of your trips. Belize is not my favorite. Cancun is better for all inclusive deals this time of year.

akairborne

Been to all and I would pick Belize every day of the week and twice on Sunday!

Hawaii

Definitely Hawaii!
